The two variants quickly grabbed attention online, as fans eagerly weighed in on the latest design representing Nigeria’s senior national team.

The release comes ahead of the Super Eagles’ participation in a four-nation invitational tournament in Antalya, Turkey, where they will face the Iran national football team on March 27 and Jordan national football team on March 31.

The matches are part of Nigeria’s rebuilding efforts following their disappointment at failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The new kit blends multiple shades of green with sleek, modern patterns, capturing the country’s footballing heritage while adding contemporary design touches aimed at appealing to a global audience.

Fan reactions, however, have been mixed—quite a contrast to the frenzy that greeted the Super Eagles’ 2018 World Cup jersey. Back then, the bold zigzag design became a global phenomenon, selling out almost instantly, attracting huge pre-orders, and prompting queues outside stores in cities like London.

That launch was widely celebrated as one of the most successful football kit releases ever, cementing Nigeria’s reputation at the intersection of sport and fashion.

With the 2026 jersey now out, all eyes will be on the Super Eagles as they take the pitch in Turkey, and fans are already buzzing to see if this new design can make a mark both on and off the field.

Head coach Éric Chelle has announced his Super Eagles squad ahead of the March international break, as Nigeria gears up for a four-nation invitational tournament.

The selection is seen as another key step in Chelle’s ongoing rebuilding project, with the Malian tactician continuing to evaluate his options as he shapes the future of the national team. The squad reflects a deliberate mix of experienced players and fresh faces, underlining his focus on competition and depth.

Among the notable inclusions are familiar names like Maduka Okoye, Semi Ajayi, Frank Onyeka, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Akor Adams, and Paul Onuachu.

The list also features some exciting new call-ups. Scotland-based defender Emmanuel Fernandez has earned his maiden invitation, alongside Germany-based forward Philip Otele and Collins Sor of KRC Genk. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye returns to the squad.

Reports suggest that several new faces have been drafted into the defence and goalkeeping departments, while a few regulars have been left out, signaling Chelle’s intention to build healthy competition across all positions.

Nigeria will face Jordan, Iran, and Costa Rica in the invitational tournament scheduled for later this month. The matches are expected to give the coaching crew a clearer picture of player combinations and tactical flexibility.

Beyond being routine friendlies, the games offer a platform for players to prove themselves and stake a claim for regular roles in the squad. With expectations always high for the Super Eagles, fans will be watching closely to see how this evolving team performs under Chelle’s guidance.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed heavy sanctions on Algeria following multiple acts of misconduct during their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 quarter-final defeat to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

In an official communiqué issued on Wednesday, January 21, 2025, CAF confirmed that the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) was found guilty of several breaches of the competition’s disciplinary and security regulations.

According to CAF, the sanctions stemmed from improper conduct by Algerian players and team officials, including confrontations with match officials after the final whistle and a failure to maintain discipline throughout the encounter.

CAF described the behaviour as unacceptable and contrary to the principles of fair play and sportsmanship expected at a major continental tournament.

Supporter misconduct also contributed significantly to the punishment. CAF cited the lighting of flares, the throwing of objects onto the pitch, and lapses in crowd control and stadium security as aggravating factors during the match.

As a result, the Algerian FA has been fined approximately $100,000, covering both team-related and crowd-related offences.

In addition to the financial penalties, CAF has handed out player suspensions, which will be enforced during Algeria’s qualification campaign for AFCON 2027.

CAF stressed that the sanctions are intended to serve as a strong warning, reiterating that indiscipline—whether from players, officials, or supporters—will not be tolerated, particularly at flagship tournaments such as the Africa Cup of Nations.

In his latest vlog, the Fulham midfielder spoke candidly about the Malian-born tactician’s impact on the Nigerian national team, praising him for building strong unity and chemistry among the players.

According to Iwobi, Chelle’s leadership has gone beyond tactics, helping transform the squad into a close-knit family.

Iwobi recounted an emotional moment behind the scenes, disclosing that the coach was visibly moved during a recent team address.

“The coach (Eric Chelle) has done a lot for us. Everybody worked hard for him, and when he gave his last speech, he got emotional,” Iwobi said.
“He deserves a lot of praise. He got the team together — big chemistry.”

The midfielder’s comments underline how Chelle has earned the trust of the squad, fostering a collective spirit that has been evident in Nigeria’s recent performances.

The Super Eagles have shown renewed grit, defensive discipline, and togetherness, qualities Iwobi attributes directly to the manager’s influence.

Since taking charge, Chelle has successfully navigated the intense pressure that comes with managing Nigeria’s national team, winning over senior figures like Iwobi while seamlessly integrating new talents into the setup.

In a football culture where coaches are often heavily scrutinized, Chelle’s ability to inspire unity and emotion within a team of global stars speaks volumes about his leadership and could prove vital to Nigeria’s ambitions going forward.

A wave of emotions swept through social media on Wednesday night after a video surfaced showing popular Nigerian singer Teniola Apata, professionally known as Teni, breaking down in tears following the Super Eagles’ exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria’s campaign came to a painful end after the Super Eagles fell 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco in their AFCON semi-final clash at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Rabat.

The encounter ended goalless after 120 minutes of intense football, forcing the contest to be decided from the spot.

Although the scoreline suggested a balanced contest, Morocco largely controlled proceedings, registering 16 goal attempts compared to Nigeria’s two.

Still, the Super Eagles stayed alive thanks to an inspired performance from goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who matched Moroccan shot-stopper Yassine Bounou save for save during regulation time and extra time.

Nigeria’s attacking duo of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman struggled to find space against a well-organised Moroccan defence. The hosts were marshalled superbly by captain Achraf Hakimi at right-back, with Noussair Mazraoui equally influential on the opposite flank, combining defensive solidity with attacking thrust.

With neither side able to find a breakthrough, penalties followed, and it was Morocco who held their nerve. Youssef En-Nesyri stepped up to convert the winning kick, sealing a place in the final for the Atlas Lions.

Nigeria’s hopes faded after Samuel Chukwueze missed his effort and Bruno Onyemaechi was denied, while Paul Onuachu and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru were the only Super Eagles players to score from the spot.

As fans across the country struggled to process the heartbreak, Teni’s reaction quickly became a talking point online. In a video shared on her Instagram page, the singer was seen crying uncontrollably, leaning beside an elderly security guard as she vented her frustration over Nigeria’s penalty miss.

Clearly emotional, Teni appeared particularly upset with Chukwueze’s penalty, openly expressing her displeasure in the clip. She captioned the video with a mix of humour and anger, writing:

“CHUKWUEZE I SWEAR MAKE I NO JUST TALK😡 YOU GO SEE ME FOR DREAM THIS NIGHT.”

Morocco will now face Senegal in Sunday’s final as they chase only their second AFCON title, having last won the tournament in 1976. Nigeria, meanwhile, must regroup quickly as it prepares for Saturday’s third-place playoff against Egypt, which narrowly lost to Senegal in the other semi-final.

For many fans, celebrities included, the defeat was more than just a football result, and Teni’s emotional reaction captured the heartbreak felt by millions across the country.

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reacted on social media after losing a hefty $50,000 (about ₦71 million) following the Super Eagles’ dramatic defeat to Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria’s AFCON journey came to a painful halt on Wednesday night after a tense semi-final clash against the host nation ended goalless in regulation time and extra time before Morocco edged the Super Eagles 4–2 on penalties. Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerged as the hero of the night, pulling off decisive saves to send his country into the final.

Ahead of the encounter, Davido had openly backed Nigeria with his wallet, revealing that he had placed a $50,000 wager on the Super Eagles to reach the final.

The singer even shared his betting slip online, confidently projecting a massive payout.

“Nigerians to make the finals and I’ll double my stake on my slip,” Davido wrote while sharing his slip.

However, Nigeria’s loss meant the bet did not land, with the Super Eagles now set to face Egypt in the third-place playoff, while Morocco and Senegal battle for the AFCON crown.

Despite the setback, Davido appeared unfazed. Shortly after the match, the Grammy-nominated singer took to the Instagram Stories section of his verified page to share a calm, almost tongue-in-cheek reaction. He posted a photo of himself enjoying a plate of grilled fish as he prepared to leave Morocco.

Accompanying the post, Davido simply wrote, “Perfect sign out.”

While the Super Eagles’ exit was a bitter pill for Nigerian fans, Davido’s relaxed response showed that, win or lose, life and good food go on.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has broken his silence following Nigeria’s heartbreaking exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), reacting to the defeat against Morocco that ended the country’s hopes of lifting the trophy.

Nigeria entered the tournament with renewed confidence, aiming to overcome the disappointment of the 2023 AFCON final loss in Côte d’Ivoire and the painful failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, that dream came to an end after the Super Eagles fell to the host nation in a tense encounter decided by penalties.

Speaking after the match, Chelle admitted that his side did not hit the same heights they had shown earlier in the competition.

While he refused to blame fatigue, the Franco-Malian coach acknowledged a noticeable dip in technical sharpness and intensity at key moments of the game.

“Our technicality was not like the same from last match. I don’t want to say we were tired but that’s not the level.”

Chelle explained that Nigeria struggled to impose themselves the way they had done in previous matches, stressing that small margins and decision-making ultimately worked against his team on the night.

Despite the loss, the coach was full of praise for his players’ attitude and fighting spirit. He noted that the Super Eagles showed resilience and commitment, battling until the final whistle in what was always going to be a difficult contest against the host nation.

He also addressed questions surrounding his tactical calls, particularly during the penalty shootout, insisting that his decisions were based strictly on what he saw in training.

On the penalties, Chelle said:

“We put Chukwueze for penalties because the guys who kicked the penalties were the best in training. The match was never easy, but the players showed strong mentality and fought for every ball. We worked hard throughout the tournament. This is football, and we must continue working.”

According to Chelle, penalty shootouts are unpredictable and should not be used to judge a team’s overall performance or commitment across the competition.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles coach emphasised the need to regroup quickly as attention shifts to the third-place playoff, while also hinting that discussions regarding his future with the national team will take place after the tournament.

For now, Chelle insists the focus remains on finishing the AFCON campaign strongly and taking lessons from a tournament that once again came down to the finest of margins.

Afrobeats megastar Davido has once again shown massive faith in the Super Eagles, and this time, he’s put serious money behind it.

Ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 semi-final clash against host nation Morocco, the singer revealed that he placed a ₦71 million bet on the Super Eagles to secure victory.

AFCON 2025: Davido Goes Big on Nigeria With ₦71m Bet

The highly anticipated encounter takes place tonight, January 14, 2025, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, with kickoff set for 9 PM.

Nigeria have been one of the standout teams of the tournament so far, cruising through the competition with an unbeaten record and scoring more goals than any other side. Their dominant run has clearly inspired confidence beyond the pitch, including from Davido himself.

Taking to his Instagram page, the award-winning artiste shared a betting slip from global gambling platform Stake, confirming he staked $50,000 (approximately ₦71 million) on the Super Eagles to defeat Morocco.

The bet was placed on 6 odds, covering:

Nigeria to win

Both teams to score

Over 1.5 total goals

A scoreline like 2–1 in Nigeria’s favour would comfortably land the bet.

If the Super Eagles pull it off, Davido stands to cash out a whopping $348,274.07, which translates to about ₦495 million.

Adding extra spice to the moment, Davido hinted he’s ready to go even bigger if Nigeria reach the final. He wrote:

“Nigeria to make the finals and I’ll double my stake on my slip…. 💰 @stake.”

The winner of tonight’s clash will book a spot in the AFCON 2025 final, where either Egypt or Senegal awaits.

For Davido and millions of Nigerian fans, it’s all eyes on Rabat football, faith, and fortune on the line.

Afrobeats star Joeboy has added extra drama to Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 semi-final showdown with Morocco, not on the pitch, but with his wallet.

As anticipation builds ahead of Wednesday’s clash, the stakes have clearly spilt beyond football. Following a trend set earlier by fellow superstar Davido, Joeboy has reportedly placed a ₦5 million bet on the Super Eagles to overcome host nation Morocco and book a place in the final.

AFCON 2025: Joeboy Bets Big on Nigeria Semi-Final game vs. Morocco

The “Alcohol” crooner, who is known for his bold interest in sports betting, shared a snapshot of the wager on social media, making it clear he has full faith in Nigeria’s ability to quieten the home crowd in Rabat.

For Joeboy, it is not just a show of support; it is a statement of confidence in the team’s unbeaten run at the tournament.

This is not unfamiliar territory for the singer. Joeboy’s betting adventures have often made headlines, swinging between big wins and very public losses. In April 2025, he went viral after losing ₦3 million on a UEFA Champions League fixture in which he backed Real Madrid to overcome Arsenal, a gamble that ended in what fans jokingly described as “premium tears.”

His latest wager now joins a growing list of high-profile financial backing for the Super Eagles as they chase continental glory. Davido recently revealed that he staked around ₦36 million (approximately $25,000) on Nigeria’s opening AFCON fixtures, while BUA Group chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu raised the stakes even further by pledging a $500,000 bonus if Nigeria defeat Morocco, along with an extra $50,000 for every goal scored.

On the pitch, Nigeria have given fans plenty of reasons to believe. The Super Eagles are yet to lose a match at AFCON 2025 and arrive at the semi-final full of confidence after a 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals. Morocco, however, will pose a serious test, backed by a passionate home crowd at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Should Nigeria emerge victorious, Joeboy is expected to cash out a figure estimated at around ₦11 million. But beyond the money, the bigger prize would be celebrating Nigeria’s first AFCON final appearance since 2023, a moment that would make the gamble more than worth it for the singer and millions of Super Eagles supporters worldwide.

The three-time African champions maintained their strong run with a convincing 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals at Marrakech Stadium.

After a goalless first half, Nigeria broke the deadlock through Victor Osimhen, who rose highest to head in a precise cross from Bruno Onyemaechi, giving the Super Eagles the lead. The result was sealed late when Sevilla forward Akor Adams produced a stunning solo effort to put the match beyond doubt.

Reacting to the victory, Chelle praised his players for their mindset and performance, noting clear signs of improvement under his guidance.

“The Nigerian players are very happy, and I am extremely proud of them,” Chelle said.
“We really enjoyed the match. I have worked a lot since taking over my role with the Nigerian national team; we put in a lot of effort during preparations.
“My vision has been implemented in the Nigerian team, and we must continue working in this manner.
“The victory we achieved against Algeria was deserved. The match was fantastic, and I am very happy with the win.”

Looking ahead, Chelle has already shifted focus to the semi-final clash against hosts Morocco. Acknowledging the quality of the Atlas Lions, the Franco-Malian tactician remains confident that his team can rise to the challenge.

“After this match, we have another game, and we will prepare for it,” he added.
“Morocco is a strong team, and there will be pressure in front of the host nation. The best team will win. I am proud that we will face Morocco, and I hope it will be a good match, with the best team winning.”

Should Nigeria overcome Morocco in Rabat, they will face either Egypt or Senegal in the final as they chase a fourth AFCON crown and aim to cement their place among Africa’s footballing elite.

Chelle’s words reflect both satisfaction at the current form of his squad and a clear focus on the challenges that lie ahead as the Super Eagles pursue continental glory.

At AFCON 2025, Iwobi’s influence has gone far beyond eye-catching moments. Game after game, the Fulham star has blended control, creativity, and calm authority, becoming a key engine in Nigeria’s impressive run through the tournament.

While goals and assists often grab headlines, fresh numbers from Opta now offer clear statistical proof of just how vital he has been to the Super Eagles’ rhythm and buildup play.

According to the data, Iwobi has completed more line-breaking passes than any other player at AFCON 2025, underlining his role as Nigeria’s main connector between defence and attack. Even more striking is his output in the knockout rounds, where the 27-year-old has registered 36 line-breaking passes, the highest tally by any player at that stage of the competition.

36 – Alex Iwobi has completed 36 line-breaking passes in the knockout stages of #AFCON2025, more than any other player (22 v Mozambique, 14 v Algeria). Vision. pic.twitter.com/zdF9ZxMOrf

A closer look at the figures tells its own story. During Nigeria’s dominant 4–0 round-of-16 victory over Mozambique, Iwobi completed 22 line-breaking passes, repeatedly slicing through the opposition’s midfield structure.

He followed that up with 14 more in the quarter-final win against Algeria, once again dictating tempo and progression from central areas.

Against Mozambique in particular, his crisp distribution and ability to play through pressure allowed Nigeria to advance the ball smoothly through the middle, a factor that proved crucial in dismantling their opponents.

That same composure has remained a constant feature of Nigeria’s campaign, with Iwobi’s vision and decision-making helping the team control games even in tense knockout moments.

Beyond his on-ball influence, the quarter-final against Algeria also carried historic significance. With that appearance, Iwobi equaled the record for the most AFCON appearances by a Nigerian midfielder, drawing level with legends Austin Okocha, Muda Lawal and John Obi Mikel. All four now sit on 22 appearances each.

History, however, is firmly within reach. Should Iwobi feature in Nigeria’s semi-final showdown against Morocco, he will move clear of the trio and stand alone with 23 AFCON appearances, achieved across four tournaments. His journey includes seven matches each at AFCON 2019 and AFCON 2023, alongside four appearances at AFCON 2021 and AFCON 2025.

As the Super Eagles edge closer to continental glory, Iwobi’s story at AFCON 2025 is shaping up as one of quiet authority and lasting legacy.

With form, fitness and confidence all on his side, the midfielder is not only chasing a place in the final — he is also on the verge of carving his name alone into Nigerian football history.
