Nottingham Forest have released an official statement confirming Steve Cooper will remain as the club’s manager.

After the 2-1 loss against Leeds United dropped Forest to only one point above the relegation zone, According to reports that talks will be undertaken concerning Cooper’s future at The City Ground. Club owner Evangelos Marinakis claims the team “wishes to dispel the uncertainty.”

There were more allegations that Forest had chosen to part ways with Cooper, but Marinakis has denied those claims and has openly backed the former Swansea manager.

“No one denies that our Club is in a difficult position in the Premier League, but we wish to end the speculation and the false and disruptive reporting in the media to confirm that Steve Cooper remains our manager at Nottingham Forest,” Marinakis said.

“We have all been disappointed with recent performances and it is very clear that a lot of hard work needs to be done to address this urgently. Results and performances must improve immediately.

“Now is the time for everyone connected with our club, from us as owners, to the board, our supporters, backroom staff, coaches and players – to come together and fight to secure our status in the Premier League.

“There can be no time for distractions, rumours and speculation. There is only time for hard work, determination, a commitment from Steve and the players to getting the results we need and, of course, the continued magnificent support of the fans of Nottingham Forest.”

Forest lost at Elland Road, marking their eleventh road loss in 14 Premier League games, the poorest mark in the league. They have only managed five goals on the road and have let up a staggering 34 goals, but due to their substantially superior home performance, they are in the running to stay in the division.

Forest are now on an eight-game streak without a win in the Premier League while frequently picking up points on their home field. Presently, only seven points separate Southampton at the bottom of the standings from 12th-place Crystal Palace. Leeds‘ victory last night moved them up the standings from 19th to 13th, passing Forest in the process.

The Premier League’s Manager of the Month award was given to Mikel Arteta for the month of January, giving the Arsenal manager back-to-back triumphs.

In appreciation of another stellar month for the Gunners, Arteta, who previously won the award for the combined November/December category, defeated other contenders Thomas Frank, Steve Cooper, and Roberto De Zerbi for the title.

The north London team improved to 7 points from 3 games as they pursue their first league title since 2003/2004.

Arsenal initially triumphed at Tottenham in the league in 2014 before coming from behind to defeat Manchester United 3-2 after a scoreless draw at home with Champions League contenders Newcastle.

Ahead of their matchup with Everton on Saturday afternoon, Arsenal is five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City despite having played one fewer game.

Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement about a transfer for midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, and Nottingham is now close to making the signing.

After Chris Wood’s loan arrival from Newcastle earlier this month, Steve Cooper’s team is eager to add the former England international.

Shelvey will have a medical later today and then sign a two-and-a-half-year contract at the City Ground.

On top of Shelvey and Wood, Forest have also added Brazilian pair Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa and are also chasing a goalkeeper, a centre-back and a winger before Tuesday’s deadline.

Forest are interested in signing Felipe from Atletico Madrid and have inquired about defender Romain Saiss from Besiktas.

Felipe, a former Porto center back, joined Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has played 85 times for the La Liga team.

In an effort to add Felipe to their long list of new additions since making their first return to the Premier League in more than 20 years, Forest have initiated their own negotiations with the Spanish club.

To fill in for the injured Dean Henderson, who is on loan from Manchester United, they have been looking at a loan deal for Paris St. Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
