“A long list of injuries had hampered a coach who arrived mid-season into a tough league and with English as his second language. If I actually look at the squad which is available to Ruben, I think he is doing a really good job to be honest. I think Ruben is an outstanding young manager. I really do. He’s an excellent manager and I think he will be there for a long time. You are beginning to see a glimpse of what Ruben can produce. I think you saw a glimpse of it against Arsenal. How many players against Arsenal on the bench did you recognise? How many have ever worn a Manchester United shirt for [the first team]… as there’s no squad left. We are down to the last 10 or 11 men in the squad really, of proper first-team players. Ruben is doing a super job.”

Manchester United have decided not to sack manager Erik ten Hag and will instead discuss a new contract with him.

Ten Hag’s position had been uncertain during the club’s end-of-season review. Over two weeks had passed since United’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, and Ten Hag was still unaware of his fate.

Before the FA Cup final at Wembley, reports suggested that United would fire the Dutchman regardless of the outcome.

However, David Ornstein of The Athletic now reports that Ten Hag will remain at Old Trafford, and the club will begin talks for a new deal.

Ten Hag is currently under the initial three-year contract he signed upon his arrival at the club in 2025.

Despite deciding to retain Ten Hag, United did explore other managerial options for this summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly held an informal meeting with Thomas Tuchel in Monaco, but both parties decided to move in different directions. Mauricio Pochettino was also on United’s shortlist after leaving Chelsea, but the club did not pursue him further.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi, who recently left Brighton & Hove Albion, were also linked with the job, as was former United first-team coach Kieran McKenna before he signed a new contract at Ipswich Town.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe said that INEOS is still in the race to buy Manchester United, having made a “good offer” to the Glazers.

The Manchester United takeover saga, which began in February, continues with no apparent end date in sight. Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani appeared to be the Red Devils’ favorite to win the race, but Ratcliffe remains confident in his chances and has revealed that a “good offer” had been made to existing owners the Glazers. While the decision-making process is underway, Ratcliffe stressed that he is bound by the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and cannot provide specific updates on what is going on behind closed doors.

“We obviously can’t say too much because we’ve signed an NDA and we respect that but there’s still a process and we’re in the process. We have a good offer – we’ve met the Glazers a couple of times and we had a good conversation but at the end of the day it’s their decision… we would still very much like to do it. I also believe we would do a good job and do it for the right reasons. We keep very focused on it,” he told reporters during the launch of Grit, Rigour and Humour – the Ineos Story.
