Ladipoe formerly (Poe)

He went by Poe prior to signed with Mavins Records in 2017. However, he adopted the name Ladipoe to circumvent concerns about copyright infringement. This is supported by a tweet from Don Jazzy, the head of Mavin Records, in response to the event involving another artist’s name change.

Olamide formerly (G-dogg)

The famous baddo we all celebrate today has had his own change in identity. He was formerly known as known as “G DOGG”. The name “G DoGG” was changed to Olamide by I.D Cabasa on the day Baddo recorded the street banger of devotion Eni duro.
Sinzu formerly (Sauce Kid)

In 2005, Sinzu debuted with the song “Omoge wa jo,” featuring seasoned musician Mike Okri. He followed up this breakthrough with hit singles including “Carolina” ft. Davido, “Under G,” and “Yebariba.” Sinzu officially dropped the name “Saucekid” on July 17, 2012, as he stated via Twitter.

The rapper disclosed the personalities represented by the names Sinzu and Saucekid in an interview with Hip TV’s Nancy Isime. According to him, Sauce Kid is more violent and a gangster while Sinzu is more approachable and Nigerian.

Show Dem Camp

The journey of this duo go way back to their youthful days. Tec and Ghost were both solo rappers until they ran into each other at a rap battleground and realized they shared the same stage name, “Golden Child.” Immediately after that, they teamed up to establish a rap duo under the ephemeral stage names Loose Cannonz, BlackBoysDown, and Third Eye Renegades before settling on Show Dem Camp. In addition to becoming record label owners, they have changed from being simply rappers.

Cheque formerly Kyle B

Cheque began his career as a musician under the alias Kyle B when he was still a University undergraduate. Gospel hip hop was in particular his musical style. As Kyle B, he contributed to Hennessy Cypher (Part VI), which featured artists including Dark Poet, Kursor, Blaqbonez, Toosleek, and Eclipse.

He also gained prominence in school with the name and released the extended play Super Adventure Crew. On his way to global stardom, he was discovered by Phyno in 2019 and his story became a national sensation.

MI Abaga to The Guy

He wrote, “After over 15 Years as Mister Incredible, I will be retiring the name ‘MI Abaga’ and taking on a new name for a new project because my new project is hard AF and deserves a new name,” he wrote. “My final act as MI will be a performance at The Vibe on the 10th of July, where I will celebrate my legacy as Africa’s Greatest Rapper. Dammy Krane

Dammy Krane was expected to become the next big thing in Nigerian music. He was signed to 2baba’s Hypertek Records and was on his way to becoming one of Nigeria’s top talents before his arrest in 2017.

He was charged with trying to reserve a private jet with an American jet firm called Tapjets while using five different credit cards that did not belong to him. He was detained and imprisoned in Miami on charges of theft, credit card fraud, and fraud.

He was eventually freed from jail after completing his bail terms, which were set at $7,500. He entered a not guilty plea and pleaded for a jury trial. The case was dismissed by the court.

Sinzu

Sinzu, formerly known as Saucekid, was one of the most popular and promising rappers in the early 2010s. He was detained in 2016 on charges of stealing and other connected offences.

He allegedly stole $15,388 from unsuspecting victims using their bank card numbers and identifying information. He was released in 2018 and signed to Davido’s DMW record label.

Naira Marley

Naira Marley is one of Nigeria’s most divisive musicians. Marley asserted in a Noisey documentary that he had been detained 124 times.

Naira Marley was detained in 2019 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on suspicion of money laundering and internet fraud.

The arrest of Marley, musician Zlatan Ibile, and four others was one of the most talked-about topics in 2019. He was remanded in prison and later released on bail after appearing in court for the second time.

D’banj

D’banj is the latest artist to be arrested on the ground of fraud. In an exclusive report by Premium Times, the singer was arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC) on Tuesday on charges of fraud.

The agency apparently summoned the musician in recent weeks, but he neglected to show up, claiming he was preoccupied with performances abroad. He was swiftly taken into custody by the agency on Tuesday as a result of his dubious behaviour.

The rapper is being questioned by the agency over his alleged involvement in the illegal misappropriation of funds intended for the N-Power project, an empowerment initiative launched by the Nigerian government in 2016 to combat youth unemployment and advance social development.

It is believed that D’banj conspired with some government representatives to add fictitious beneficiaries to the program’s payroll.

According to reports, it was discovered that the money transferred to these accounts was related to the Kokomaster, as he is affectionately known.

After a thorough interrogation session, the musician was remanded and his bail plea was denied.

The singer is yet to confirm the news or the allegations.

Nigerian hip hop recording artist Onome Onokohwomo better known by his stage name Yung6ix  has revealed that award-winning Haitian-American producer and musician Wyclef Jean will be a producer on his upcoming NFT music album.

The hip-hop star revealed this on an Instagram live.

Recall, Yung6ix released his second studio album in 2020 which he featured several artists including Disally, Perruzi, Charass, Sinzu, Dammy Krane, Erriga, Payper, Don Corleone and Dr Barz.

‘Introduction To Trapfro’ makes it the rapper’s third album after ‘6ix O’Clock’ and ‘High Star’, his two-hit projects.

In 2016, Nigerian musician 2face Idibia declared that he had changed his stage name. He announced his new moniker, 2baba, on social media.

He added that the name change was not shocking because many people had been calling him “2Baba” for a long time, and that it was only natural for him to alter his name to 2Baba because he is now a father “Baba” and a chief (Tafidan Kudandan in Kaduna).

Kizz Daniel

In May 2018, Kiss Daniel through his manager announced that he had changed his name to Kizz Daniel.

Sinzu is a brilliant Nigerian rapper whose distinct voice, style of music, swags, and talents earned him street recognition and notoriety with the release of his first single, ‘Omoge,’ which featured popular vocalist Mike Okri.

However, the rapper/singer spent two years in jail after he was apprehended for involving in deceitful activities. Sinzu was then signed by the music legend, Davido to his DMW record label through which he released the song titled ‘Zu Levu‘.

Wizkid

He allegedly broke the terms of his parole and returned to Nigeria to pursue a music career.

Omah Lay

Rising talent Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, was jailed in Uganda for violating COVID-19 guidelines on his first travel out of the nation.

He was detained alongside Tems, Muyiwa Awoniyi, and the event promoters. Omah Lay was released from police custody after two days in jail. He could have been sentenced to up to seven years in prison without the possibility of a fine if convicted.

During an interview, Omah Lay revealed that he wouldn’t mind visiting the country again despite the whole controversy.

Tems

Temilade Opaniyi and Omah Lay were detained in Uganda for performing during the COVID-19 outbreak. To protest her arrest, the artist who is known as Tems went on a hunger strike.

She was later released after requests from Nigerians and celebrities for her and Omah Lay to be released.

Tems, upon her return to Nigeria, accused Ugandan musician Bebe Cool of organizing their arrest and pretending to free them.

Bella Shmurda

On the 4th of September, 2021, news broke out Bella Shmurda was arrested, fined 2000 Ghana cedis, and deported to Nigeria by Ghanaian authories.

He was arrested and deported for assaulting a medical staff with a fork after being informed that he tested positive with COVID-19 and would have to be quarantined.

However, the 24-year-old artist made his way to New York City a few hours after the incident, where he said he tested negative for Covid-19.

Bella Shmurda took to Instagram to throw subtle jabs at Ghana after his Covid-19 test in New York came out negative, saying it was shocking that he tested negative in New York after testing positive in Ghana.

Sinzu

Abifade Tosin Tomide manages Buju and  RTKesh who is also partial to Afro beats.

She is a UK-based Nigerian singer with a few songs under her belt with an EP imminent.

Ubi Franklin

In the music business, Ubi Franklin has successfully made a name for himself.

As one of the co-founders of Made Men Music Group and managers of the artists under the label, Ubi is more than deserving to be on this list.

The success of artists like Iyanya, Tekno, Emma Nyra, and Selebobo can be attributed to him.

Here’s a list of artists Davido has tried to help get out the mud, after scandals that took them down:

Dammy Krane

Davido signed the artist to DMW in 2016, Dammy Krane.

In retrospect, this came at the right time for Dammy Krane who got arrested for credit card fraud in June 2017.

Based on reports at the time, Dammy Krane was arrested in Florida for charges of theft, credit card scam and fraud. Tapjets, an American jet company alleged that the artist used five stolen credit cards to book a private jet.

He was later cleared of all charges, but the stigma stuck to him like glue.

In September 2019, Dammy Krane got accosted by police again, thus time in Nigeria, for charges of defamation and threat to life.

Although he pleaded not guilty, and was released on bail for the Nigerian case. Nigerians have not forgotten either of his stint with the police.

His career has taken a nosedive, and continues to submerge into irrelevance, despite Davido‘s help.

May D

Recently signed by Davido, May D is one artist that has struggled to stay on top after he split from Jude Okoye’s record label.

He managed to stay afloat with songs like So Many Things but May D is getting much needed aid from Davido right now.

Sinzu is another artist that has been involved with the police, in the most unlikely way.

Unlike Dammy Krane however, Sinzu spent time in prison for 2 years for aggravated identity theft.

He was at Ada County Jail, Idaho from 2016 to 2018.

Davido added him to DMW in 2018, after Sinzu’s release from prison.

Cynthia Morgan

After she came out to explain her plight to the general public, Davido reached out to Cynthia Morgan, offering to get her out of her forlorn situation.

Few years ago, Cynthia Morgan was an artist of note. She had a rare talent and was using it well, until she wasn’t.

We suddenly stopped hearing about her, except for the occasional rumors of substance abuse and debt.

People couldn’t stop asking where she went to, and what happened to her.

Oxlade’s verse on the song has sent fans into a frenzy as they took to praise the singer for being able to outperform expectations.

“All My Life” is the second single M.I would be dropping this year following his last release, “TBDK” featuring Sinzu and Erigga.

In the short period since his breakthrough in the music industry, Davido has successfully pushed his brand in Nigeria and around the world and is one of Nigeria’s top three artists.

The Record Label Boss has left a legacy that will live on in perpetuity; his personal accomplishments cannot be exaggerated, and he has helped to put numerous Nigerian musicians on the international map.

The majority of individuals he put on the map have gone on to become megastars in their own right, although some have faded into the background as a result of different circumstances.

Artists Signed to DMW;

Mayorkun

Mayorkun is one of the few Nigerian Artists who get a chance at fame after their cover of another artist’s song gets viral.

Davido chanced upon him on social media signing to his “Money” song and invited him over a DM to his house and from there, it was history.

Mayorkun is one of the few artists in the DMW Family that bonds well with Davido and is even seen by many as his protege.

Peruzzi

Apart from being an amazing singer, Peruzzi is a talented songwriter which has earned him a valuable spot in the DMW Label. In fact, some of Davido’s hit songs from 2017 were written by him.

Although there has been a controversy as to how Peruzzi got signed by Davido, it hasn’t stopped the singer from flourishing. With hit songs like “Majesty”, “Amaka”, “Gunshot”, “Only One”, “Nana”, Peruzzi is another amazing artist Davido has helped launched.

Dremo

Although Dremo started his music professionally in his first record label APPE Gang in 2013, it wasn’t he got signed to DMW that things kicked off for him.

Few Months after signing to DMW, he dropped his first track, “Fela” and from there dropped two albums, “Codename Vol 1 & 2” and several other EPs.

Idowest

Idowest gained a street rep thanks to his 2017 hit song, “Omo Sheteperi” and in 2018 joined the DMW Label Family. In an interview, he revealed that he chased Davido since 2015 before he struck gold and finally got signed.

The Artists his collaboration with blew them up;

Mc Galaxy

Although one would argue that “Sekem” blew MC Galaxy into a Nationwide favourite in 2014, two years prior, he gained prominence after winning Davido’s Skelewu competition in 2012. The two would collaborate on MC Galaxy’s ‘Nek Unek” in 2013 which was a hit before “Sekem” became a club anthem.

Runtown

Runtown gathered airplay when he released Party Like 1980 but his big break didn’t come until he got a verse from Davido.

The DMW chief laced Runtown’s biggest hit, Gallardo with one of his best verses and the Sound God has gone on to become a star of his own.

Tekno

Tekno is among those who have benefited from Davido in terms of a collaborative project.

Tekno became known and loved by music lovers after Davido featured in his 2014 hit single, Holiday. Davido’s star power heavily rode the song into the hearts of thousands of music lovers and made them fall in love with the equally talented Tekno.

Tekno would years later replicate the favour by writing and producing the award-winning and double Gold-certified “If“, one of Davido’s biggest song to date.

Humblesmith

Humblesmith was gained a bit of fame with his gospel-like song, “Osinachi” but it got bigger after Davido jumped on the remix.

Davido got downloads and streams for Humblesmith by addressing his baby mama drama on the song.

No doubt Osinachi was the biggest hit song Humblesmith has released ever since then.

The Artists whose careers he tried to revive;

Lyta

After ending things on a bad note with his former boss, Olamide (which was almost a career suicide) and trying to find his feet in the industry again, Davido graciously agreed to feature on Lyta comeback singer “Monalisa”. Davido also played a huge role in the music video of the song.

Lyta is currently signed to Marlian Music still trying to shed his past controversies off and dominate the industry.

Sauce Kid/Sinzu

Sauce Kid was a popular figure in the music scene in the early 200os with his unique style of rap songs. After a while of being in the background, he released a song titled “Carolina” in 2011 featuring Davido.

In 2017, he got arrested in the US on bank fraud charges and after completing his two-year jail term for aggravated identity theft, Not minding what people would say, Davido opened his arms wide to Sauce Kid and signed him to the DMW family. Not much have been heard from him however in terms of music.

Dammy Krane

In 2016, reports of Davido signing Dammy Krane flooded Social media. As of that time, Krane had just finished his contract with 2Baba‘s Hypertek. However, nothing came out of the relationship as Dammy Krane would get arrested in 2017 for card fraud in the US.

Although he was acquitted of all charges, Dammy’s career took a nosedive as is still struggling to revive his career, not much has been heard of his contract with DMW.

May D

May D came into the music scene with former music duo, P-square and he was one of the instruments behind the making of their Award-winning album, “The Invasion”.

Unfortunately, his relationship with the brothers went sour and also causing his career to take a nosedive. It wasn’t until 2020 when he made a comeback with “Lowo Lowo” and Davido jumped on the remix. A few weeks later, the two announced a partnership of some sort.
