Nigerian rap duo Show Dem Camp (SDC) have shed light on why their beloved 2018 project, Palmwine Music 2, briefly disappeared from major streaming platforms. The group confirmed that the album’s removal was the result of a royalty dispute with one of the featured artists.

According to SDC, the issue arose years after the project’s release when a collaborator returned seeking a larger share of the revenue from one of the songs.

The disagreement, which could not be resolved immediately, led to a decision to temporarily pull down the album while legal and financial matters were sorted out.

“The song became a success, and years later, the artist came back asking for more,” the duo revealed in a recent interview. “We had to take a step back and protect the integrity of the project while we handled the legalities.”

The incident underscores a recurring challenge in the African music industry, where many collaborations are often built on informal agreements without clear long-term arrangements regarding royalties and intellectual property rights.

After several days offline, Palmwine Music 2 has now returned to Spotify, Apple Music, and Audiomack. However, fans quickly noticed that the re-uploaded version now features eight tracks instead of nine, with the fan-favourite “Tropicana” featuring Flash missing from the lineup. The track is widely believed to be at the center of the dispute.

Despite the setback, SDC’s decision to restore the rest of the album while omitting the contested song has been praised by fans and industry observers alike.

Many see it as a sign of the duo’s professionalism and commitment to preserving the cultural legacy of the Palmwine Music series, a project that has come to define the sound of modern alternative Afrobeats.

Show Dem Camp Step Deeper Into Their Nollywood Era With “Normally” Visualizer

Show Dem Camp are not just making music anymore; they’re building worlds. Their new visualizer for “Normally,” one of the standout tracks from their latest album Afrika Magik, is another confident step in their ongoing love affair with Nollywood, this time with sharper intent and a knowing sense of humour.

Show Dem Camp Turn Storytellers in “Normally” Visualizer

For context, Afrika Magik is a concept album steeped in nostalgia, memory, and the unfiltered boldness of old Nollywood.

The rap duo Wale Davies (Tec) and Olumide Ayeni (Ghost) have often described Nollywood as one of Africa’s bravest cultural revolutions: a generation of dreamers armed with cheap cameras and limitless ambition, crafting stories and stars that outlived their budgets. That same DIY spirit runs through Afrika Magik.

Even before the album’s release, SDC were already setting the mood. They dropped a reimagined version of a classic Nollywood movie poster, the kind that might have featured Jim Iyke squaring up with Mike Ezuruonye, chaos about to erupt in the next frame. That tongue-in-cheek homage was more than a promo tactic; it was a clue to the storytelling blueprint behind the project.

So when the “Normally” visualizer arrived, it made perfect sense. It plays like the calm-before-the-storm party scene, the moment of laughter and light before someone makes a bad decision, and the music knows it before they do.

If you grew up on early-2000s Nollywood, you’ll instantly recognise the vibe. The cramped living room party. The smoky air. The low lighting. The shiny clothes.

The careless joy of young people who don’t know they’re in a movie. Every detail feels intentional, from the glint of the glasses to the retro fits that look straight out of a 2003 home video.

There’s also a clever visual twist: one model styled in a modern, Y2K-inspired look, standing just slightly apart from the rest. It’s a wink to the audience, a reminder that Afrika Magik isn’t pure nostalgia, it’s a remix.

A reinterpretation of memory through a modern lens. Even the text introducing the artists uses that old-school VCD font, instantly transporting you back to those wooden movie shops that defined the era.

Musically, “Normally,” featuring Joey B and Boj, is pure Show Dem Camp magic: a seamless blend of laid-back hip-hop and Afrobeats groove. It’s a song that fits anywhere in your car, at an after-party, or in your headphones on a slow evening. The beat breathes, the flow is easy, and that unmistakable palmwine essence lingers beneath the modern polish.

That’s the brilliance of SDC, their ability to evolve without ever losing their roots. With “Normally,” they’ve proven once again that they’re not just reminiscing about Nollywood; they’re reimagining it for a new generation.

In a year where hip-hop legends like Clipse and Mobb Deep have reignited global love for the genre, SDC’s Ghost and Tec stand tall as Africa’s voice in this renaissance, merging lyrical excellence with a distinctly African soul.

Their latest project doesn’t just celebrate African rap; it boldly asserts its place in the global conversation around authentic, lyric-driven music.

Coming off their acclaimed neo-highlife collaboration No Love in Lagos with The Cavemen and Nsikak David, the duo once again evolve their sound. This time, they draw from the golden hues of late-90s Nollywood nostalgia to explore themes of love, self-discovery, and cultural identity.

AFRIKA MAGIK boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Tems, BOJ, Winny, and Mereba, weaving a sonic tapestry of hip-hop, soul, R&B, alté, and Afro-fusion. Each feature adds its own texture, creating an experience that feels both personal and panoramic.

“For us, AFRIKA MAGIK isn’t just an album; it’s a cultural document. A reminder that our stories, in all their beauty and chaos, are magic,” the duo said, reflecting on the album’s deeper purpose.

Beyond the music, 2024 has been a defining year for the duo. From appearing on Ebro Darden’s show to having a song featured in the first Nigerian film ever to premiere at Cannes, SDC continue to champion African creativity on a global scale.

Ultimately, AFRIKA MAGIK feels like a time capsule, a record that blends nostalgia with now. It’s the sound of two artists who have mastered their craft and still dare to experiment.

The album captures everything that makes Show Dem Camp special: sharp lyricism, fluid storytelling, and a homely yet otherworldly sound.

The best part? You don’t need to be a fan to enjoy it. Every track holds its own, yet everything connects seamlessly. Whether you’re dancing, reflecting, or simply vibing, AFRIKA MAGIK meets you where you are.

In Nigeria’s ever-evolving music scene, Show Dem Camp (SDC) have always walked its own path as two rappers who’ve built a world where lyricism meets lifestyle, where art and enjoyment coexist without compromise.

Their latest single, Italawa, feels like another defining moment in that journey, a lush, confident anthem that celebrates nightlife, luxury, and the irresistible rhythm of being alive.

Show Dem Camp Drop Groovy New Anthem “Italawa”

From the very first beat, Italawa feels like a warm Lagos night, headlights gliding over wet asphalt, laughter spilling from rooftop bars, and music echoing through the city’s veins.

Produced by Spax, the track is a sleek blend of Afrofusion and hip-hop, pulsing with groove yet grounded in authenticity. Over layered percussion and airy melodies, Tec and Ghost trade verses with the ease of men fully at home in their sound, their flows smooth but assertive, their chemistry as effortless as ever.

The song’s hook, the hypnotic repetition of “italawa,” a Yoruba expression, anchors it all. It’s instantly catchy, a call to joy that bridges Lagos’ social worlds: from street corners to nightclubs, from island lounges to mainland bars.

While the record is steeped in the spirit of the city, its message of celebration, connection, and living fully in the moment speaks universally.

For long-time fans, Italawa is more than just another single; it’s proof that SDC’s evolution is ongoing. From their gritty Clone Wars mixtape days to the breezy Palmwine Music series and the introspective No Love in Lagos project, they’ve never stopped experimenting, always expanding their sound without losing their soul.

What makes Italawa truly shine is its looseness, that unmistakable sense that these are two artists enjoying themselves, making music not out of pressure, but pure creative freedom. It’s mature, it’s celebratory, and it’s soaked in the rich cultural pulse that only Lagos can inspire.

In a landscape dominated by mainstream Afrobeats, Italawa stands out not by rejecting the sound but by grounding it in something more textured and local. It’s Lagos distilled into song vibrant, stylish, and alive.

And once again, Show Dem Camp remind us why they remain one of the most quietly influential forces in Nigerian hip-hop: because they know how to make the specific sound universal.

Nigerian rap duo Show Dem Camp (SDC) has sent social media into a frenzy with hints of a forthcoming album, sparking eager anticipation among hip-hop and Afrobeats lovers.

Comprising Tec and Ghost, SDC has built a reputation for their masterful fusion of hip-hop, Afrobeats, and rich storytelling, making them a dominant force in Nigeria’s alternative music scene.

Their acclaimed Clone Wars series showcases sharp lyricism and social commentary, while their Palmwine Music collection offers a breezy, highlife-infused vibe that resonates deeply with fans.

While details such as the album title and release date remain wrapped, speculation is already brewing. Will this project adopt the gritty, introspective themes of Clone Wars, or will it continue the laid-back, feel-good energy of Palmwine Music?

With Nigerian hip-hop enjoying a resurgence and Afrobeats maintaining its global dominance, a new Show Dem Camp album is expected to be a major milestone for the genre.

As fans await further details, one thing is certain—SDC’s next project is set to be one of the most talked-about rap releases of the year.

In the Nigerian music space, there is a list of rappers you might not know started out with different names, however, there’s no need to fret. Mp3bullet has put together a list of Nigerian rappers you didn’t know changed their stage names.

Ladipoe formerly (Poe)

6 Nigerian Rappers You Didn’t Know Changed Stage Names

He went by Poe prior to signed with Mavins Records in 2017. However, he adopted the name Ladipoe to circumvent concerns about copyright infringement. This is supported by a tweet from Don Jazzy, the head of Mavin Records, in response to the event involving another artist’s name change.

Olamide formerly (G-dogg)

The famous baddo we all celebrate today has had his own change in identity. He was formerly known as known as “G DOGG”. The name “G DoGG” was changed to Olamide by I.D Cabasa on the day Baddo recorded the street banger of devotion Eni duro.
Sinzu formerly (Sauce Kid)

In 2005, Sinzu debuted with the song “Omoge wa jo,” featuring seasoned musician Mike Okri. He followed up this breakthrough with hit singles including “Carolina” ft. Davido, “Under G,” and “Yebariba.” Sinzu officially dropped the name “Saucekid” on July 17, 2012, as he stated via Twitter.

The rapper disclosed the personalities represented by the names Sinzu and Saucekid in an interview with Hip TV’s Nancy Isime. According to him, Sauce Kid is more violent and a gangster while Sinzu is more approachable and Nigerian.

Show Dem Camp

6 Nigerian Rappers You Didn’t Know Changed Stage Names

The journey of this duo go way back to their youthful days. Tec and Ghost were both solo rappers until they ran into each other at a rap battleground and realized they shared the same stage name, “Golden Child.” Immediately after that, they teamed up to establish a rap duo under the ephemeral stage names Loose Cannonz, BlackBoysDown, and Third Eye Renegades before settling on Show Dem Camp. In addition to becoming record label owners, they have changed from being simply rappers.

Cheque formerly Kyle B

Cheque began his career as a musician under the alias Kyle B when he was still a University undergraduate. Gospel hip hop was in particular his musical style. As Kyle B, he contributed to Hennessy Cypher (Part VI), which featured artists including Dark Poet, Kursor, Blaqbonez, Toosleek, and Eclipse.

He also gained prominence in school with the name and released the extended play Super Adventure Crew. On his way to global stardom, he was discovered by Phyno in 2019 and his story became a national sensation.

MI Abaga to The Guy

6 Nigerian Rappers You Didn’t Know Changed Stage Names

He wrote, “After over 15 Years as Mister Incredible, I will be retiring the name ‘MI Abaga’ and taking on a new name for a new project because my new project is hard AF and deserves a new name,” he wrote. “My final act as MI will be a performance at The Vibe on the 10th of July, where I will celebrate my legacy as Africa’s Greatest Rapper. See you all on stage.”
