A collaboration with Lil Wayne, a five-time Grammy-winning rapper and one of hip-hop’s most revered figures, could mark a major milestone for her burgeoning international career.

It was a night of pure African glamour and global pride as London came alive for the world premiere of 3 Cold Dishes, a powerful Pan-African crime drama that’s already shaping up to be one of the continent’s most talked-about cinematic triumphs.

Held at the iconic Indigo at The O2, the premiere drew a full house of 1,757 guests, transforming the venue into a vibrant celebration of African art, fashion, and storytelling.

Produced by Bose Ogulu and her son, global superstar Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu, alongside Osas Ighodaro, the film stands as a milestone in the evolution of African cinema, bridging cultures and audiences across continents.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Asurf Oluseyi, 3 Cold Dishes follows the emotional journey of three women united by pain, resilience, and the pursuit of justice — a raw tale that tackles the grim realities of human trafficking while celebrating courage and sisterhood.

The red carpet radiated elegance and excitement as celebrities, filmmakers, and fans arrived in striking African attire. Cameras flashed endlessly as Osas Ighodaro, who also stars in the film, stole the spotlight with her dazzling look and graceful presence.

She led a formidable cast featuring Fat Toure, Maud Guerard, Ruby Akubueze, Taiwo Adeyemi, Amelie Mbaye, and veteran actor Wale Ojo, each bringing depth and authenticity to the film’s narrative.

Adding a classic touch to the evening, legendary Congolese musician Awilo Longomba lit up the event with a thrilling performance — a perfect nod to the film’s Pan-African message of unity through art and music.

The show’s lively atmosphere was elevated by Shank Comics and Hakeem, who served as hosts, keeping the audience engaged with humour and charm throughout the night.

The star-studded gathering also featured appearances from Nissi, Yvonne Jegede, Boma Akpore, KC Obiajulu, Hakka Da Host, and several top media influencers, all joining in to celebrate what many are calling a defining moment for African cinema.

With its mix of emotional storytelling, star power, and cultural pride, 3 Cold Dishes not only premiered with grandeur but also reaffirmed Africa’s growing presence on the global entertainment stage.

The Grammy-winning singer, who is widely known for his preference for privacy and low-key outings, was seen strolling casually through the streets of LA alongside members of his entourage when he bumped into the Nigerian comedian. Clad in his signature white singlet and ash joggers, the Essence crooner looked relaxed as he joined Shank for a few lighthearted exchanges.

Wizkid’s playful banter with Shank, coupled with his warm energy on camera, quickly won over fans online. During the brief encounter, he even hinted at returning for more content collaborations in the future, much to the delight of viewers tuning in live.

The clip from Shank’s livestream rapidly made the rounds on social media, with fans excited to see the often-reserved singer stepping into the limelight in such a casual and fun setting.

This unexpected moment follows closely on the heels of Wizkid’s recent headline show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, where he made another heartwarming gesture by bringing his third son, Zion, on stage during the performance. The touching moment drew widespread praise from fans and media alike.

Together, the livestream cameo and the on-stage father-son moment have offered fans rare, endearing glimpses into the singer’s life beyond the music—a side of Wizkid many don’t often get to see.

American streamer Kai Cenat’s recent trip to Lagos, Nigeria, took an unexpected turn following a meeting with music superstar Davido.

Although specifics are unclear, Davido reportedly cautioned Cenat against following fellow influencer Shanks to a surprise location.

Cenat, renowned for his lively streams, boasts a substantial online following. Conversely, Shanks is known as an influencer and Instagram comedian. This contrast has led to speculation regarding Davido’s intentions.

The scenario unfolded after Shanks, accompanying Cenat on his Lagos journey, arranged a surprise outing for the streamer. Some fans speculate that this surprise might have involved a collaboration at a content studio, potentially elevating Shanks’ social media presence. However, Davido apparently intervened, advising Cenat against proceeding.

A video capturing Shanks’ emotional reaction to Cenat relaying Davido’s advice has surfaced online. In the clip, Shanks appears visibly distressed, almost on the verge of tears, as Cenat remarks, “If Davido says not to go, then we shouldn’t go.”

It’s so not fair! That was supposed to be shanks moment and they just took it from him! I hate when people experience near Sucess syndrome bro. I hate it. It’s wicked https://t.co/AOf9pGONGY

— Petty (@Pettybigbaby) March 11, 2024

Reactions on social media have been intense, with some fans sympathizing with Shanks and feeling that he missed out on a significant opportunity. “It’s not fair! That was supposed to be Shanks’ moment,” one user lamented.

However, amidst the empathy, there’s speculation about a potential rift between Davido and Shanks, with some suggesting that Davido might disapprove of Shanks for reasons that remain unspecified.

Everyone acting like we don’t know why this is ? Davido clearly don’t fuck with shank, in my opinion, it’s just to spite him. https://t.co/4d0ChWJ9OT

— Damo. (@Damol4_) March 11, 2024

Certainly, it’s possible that Davido’s advice to Kai Cenat was motivated by concern for the streamer’s safety, even though the specifics of the situation haven’t been disclosed. This perspective suggests that Davido’s intervention may have been a protective measure aimed at ensuring Cenat’s well-being during his time in Lagos, Nigeria.

Celebrating the Classic Nigerian songs turning 15 years in 2022.

2007 was a pivotal time in the Nigerian Music industry. Its era saw artists like Asa, Timaya, 9ice drop their debut albums to critical and commercial acclaim.

In Nigeria, Mo Hits, the largest label at the time, released a first-of-its-kind label compilation album.

The project produced singles like “Booty call,” “Move your body,” and “Close to you,” with Don Jazzy, the country’s most prolific producer at the time, handling the majority of the production.

Much has changed in the industry in the 15 years since 2007. Nigerian music has progressed in leaps and bounds to the point where it can now be classified as mainstream music on a global scale.

While this is stunning, it would be negligent of anyone to overlook the amount of effort that went into getting the scene to where it is now.

The early and mid-2000s labour put in by artists, labels, and other business stakeholders is unquestionably what the scene is benefiting from now.

Here are some of the evergreen songs that would clock 15 years in 2022.

Kini Big Deal- Naeto C ft. Ikechukwu

Naeto C had been around for a long before the release of “Kini Big Deal.”

This, however, was the song that revolutionized his life and the course of Nigerian commercial rap music.

Prior to this, rappers of the time were more concerned with the technical aspects of rapping, hence the commercial worth of their music was poor. Naeto proved that you can be a great rapper and write a terrific rap-pop song at the same time.

In the early 2000s, TY Bello was a member of the gospel group KUSH. The band had a lot of success but eventually split up, as do most bands.

After a couple of years of silence following the band’s breakup, TY resurfaced in 2007 with the mega single “Greenland,” a hopeful song about Nigeria’s prospects.

‘Greenland‘ was a smash hit across the country, especially with schoolchildren, as it was frequently utilized in dance routines and choreographies in schools and churches.

Music last year (2020) was non-stop, hit songs were popping left, right and center, and here are the top 10 Nigerian music producers in 2021.

However, the music industry enjoyed a boom of time and Nigerian artists and Music Producers deserve heavy praise.

Late year, we had the best of Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Adekunle Gold, Patoranking, and Fireboy to mention a few.

Nigerian producers’ tagging enhances their fame and imprints their names in the minds of listeners.

The truth is we called these tags from memory and that led to the realization as to how we have these Nigerian producer tags engrained into our minds unknowingly.

When I first heard Rema‘s “Bounce,” produced by Don Jazzy, I squinted a little at the opening adlib: “Na who do the beat? Jazzy! ” I recall that moment because, even after dozens of listens, I still get the same emotion.

Don Jazzy

Now that I think about it, my reaction wasn’t actually one of rejection; rather, it was one of sentimentality for the sake of nostalgia.

Mo’ Hits, the Don Jazzy-led crew who held Afropop in a chokehold at will every year, dominated my adolescent and early teen years when I was a kid in the early to mid-1990s.

Don Jazzy

There was an ever-present adlib during that run that will go down in Nigerian pop music history: “It’s Don Jazzy Again!”

Rema‘s adlib at the start of “Bounce” isn’t completely unfamiliar Wande Coal utilized it on “Taboo” but it didn’t feel powerful enough to declare a towering, era-defining super-producer to my old self.

Quotable lyrics; (Puna)

Na which kind puna we never see (huh-huh, huh)
We never see (huh-huh, huh)
We never chop (huh-huh, huh)
We never rock
Na which kind puna we never chop (huh-huh, huh)
We never see (huh-huh, huh)
We never tune, tune, tune
Hmm, zoom-zoom-zoom

Quotable Lyrics; (Rasta)

Rasta, who thief my lighter?
My herbs and ganja
I smell am for outside
Kalakuta
Rasta, who thief my lighter? (Rasta)
My herbs and ganja (Rasta)
I smell am for that side (you be Rasta)
Kalakuta (you be Rasta)

Every 17th of March is the birthday of the popular Nigerian producer, Sarz whose slang, “Sarz on the beat” tells you that the song you are about to listen to would be a fun ride. The producer has hit songs to his credit.

Born Osabuohien Osaretin, Sarz was born in Benin, Edo state. His first full credit production work was for Lord of Ajasa‘s “See Drama” in 2007.

Sarz has produced songs for Nigerian artists like Wizkid, Naeto C, Banky W, Skales, Shank, Reminisce, Goldie Harvey, eLDee, Wande Coal, YQ and Niniola among others.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Sarz & Wurld- Trobul

Niniola- Saro

Sarz & Wurld- Ego (Nobody wins)

Seyi Shay ft Runtown- Gimme love

DJ Enimoney ft Tiwa Savage, Slimcase & Reminisce- Diet

Sarz ft DJ Tunez & Flash- Get up

10. Reminisce- Kako Bi Chicken (2011)

For a 2000s kid, this song was one of those songs the lyrics were fun to sing along to, especially the chorus, “Kako Bi Chicken” ( even though I am yet to understand what he was talking about).

You would agree that the song from its Beat to the lyrics, everything about the song was fun listening to.

9. Jahbless ft Iceprince, Reminisce, Eldee, Durella, Ruggedman, – Jor(Remix) (2010)

I remember vividly when this song came out, everyone in my area would rap along to the song, even those whose voice should be banned would be feeling like a rapper.

From the crazy beat to the hilarious lyrics, Jahbless, Iceprince, Reminisce, Eldee, Durella, Ruggedman and Sarz made 2010 a fun year to remember.

[irp]

8. Sarz ft Wizkid- Samba(2012)

After producing songs for artists, Sarz decided to produce his own personal song, Beat of life(Samba) and we thank God he did.

Samba did well when it was released as it was during that period the ‘Azonto’ dance was popular. Wizkid‘s popularity and his lyrics also contributed to its success, a fact Sarz himself acknowledged. Even now, you can’t hear Samba and not want to dance.

7. Wizkid ft Femi Kuti- Jaiye jaiye (2013)

In this song, Sarz proved that no matter the genre of song you want him to produce, he will murder it.

Sarz took Fela‘s slow afrobeat style and turned it into a danceable beat. Wizkid was joined by Femi Kuti who played the saxophone in the song.

[irp]

6. Goldie- Don’t touch my body (2010)

Goldie (may her soul rest in peace) was considered the lady Gaga of Nigeria because of her eccentric way of life, she was an amazing singer who has the voice and the class to deliver any song. So it’s no surprise she was able to deliver on the Sarz produced track.

5. Wizkid ft Drake- Come closer (2017)

Wizkid featured American Rapper, Drake on ‘Come Closer’. The song is smooth and danceable at the same time and of course, Sarz proved he is nobody mate when it comes to producing Songs.

4. Niniola- Maradona (2017)

Though Maradona wasn’t the first song Sarz had produced for Niniola, the song was the breakthrough that Niniola needed to launch her career.

The song was so good that International DJ, DJ Snake did a remix of the song which he called ‘Maradona Riddim’ and Beyonce had to sample it on one of the songs from her “Lion King: The Gift” Soundtrack.

[irp]

3. Niniola- Sicker (2017)

This song is proof that Niniola and Sarz are such a perfect combo. ‘Sicker’ was released after the massive success of Maradona in the market, even though it didn’t surpass the success of its predecessor, it was a hit in its own right.

2. Skepta ft Wizkid- Energy(Stay far away) (2018)

While Energy might not really be called a danceable song, you can’t still help but move whenever the song comes on. Sarz proved he is capable of producing anything and you just can’t help but love it.

1 Sarz & Wurld- Mad (2019)

I have a feeling that Sarz picks the Artist he works with carefully, because how do you explain the magic he and Wurld performed in “I love girls with Trobul“, the EP they released together. ‘Mad‘ is one of the best songs from the EP, the song even got recognition from Cardi B and her husband, Offset.
