The 68th Annual Grammy Awards lit up Los Angeles on February 1, 2026, drawing the world’s biggest music stars for a night of celebration, prestige, and global sounds.

For Nigeria, it was a mixed outing. While several homegrown superstars earned nominations in key categories, none walked away with a Grammy on the night.

Heavyweights like Davido and Burna Boy featured prominently in the Best African Music Performance category, alongside Davido and Omah Lay’s joint effort on “With You.” Despite strong international buzz and widespread support, the Nigerian contenders were eventually outshone by rivals from other regions.

Still, Nigeria’s presence at the ceremony was far from muted. Across different categories, winners with Nigerian roots left a clear imprint, reinforcing the country’s expanding influence within the global music and entertainment space.

One of the standout moments of the night belonged to Shaboozey, born Collins Chibueze, who proudly traces his roots to Nigeria. The genre-bending artist secured the Best Country Duo/Group Performance award alongside American singer Jelly Roll for their collaboration, “Amen.”

The song, celebrated for its emotional depth, genre fusion, and compelling vocal delivery, edged out established country stars including Miranda Lambert with Chris Stapleton and Margo Price with Tyler Childers. The win marked Shaboozey’s first-ever Grammy, a historic moment for an artist of Nigerian descent in a genre long dominated by American acts.

Elsewhere, Grammy regular Tyler the Creator also enjoyed success on the night. Born Tyler Gregory Okonma to a Nigerian father, the American rap star won Best Album Cover for Chromakopia, earning praise for his bold and imaginative visual storytelling.

The award further highlighted Tyler’s creative range beyond music, cementing his reputation as a boundary-pushing artist while keeping Nigerian heritage visible on one of entertainment’s biggest stages.

Another major win came through British-American singer and actress Cynthia Erivo, who is also of Nigerian descent. She clinched the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award alongside Ariana Grande for their powerful rendition of “Defying Gravity” from the musical film Wicked: For Good.

The performance resonated strongly with both audiences and the Recording Academy, adding another Grammy to Erivo’s growing list of accolades and reaffirming her versatility across music, film and theatre.

Although Nigerian artists did not secure wins in competitive categories this year, the 2026 Grammys once again showed that Nigerian blood continues to flow through some of the world’s biggest musical moments. On a night without trophies for local stars, Nigeria’s global impact still rang loud and clear.

Burna Boy also touched on the burden of public scrutiny in Nigeria, particularly around politics and activism. Despite his decision to remain politically neutral, he says he often feels unfairly criticized.

“I feel blessed. I also feel great responsibility … I’m blamed for everything, most especially, things I couldn’t possibly be responsible for,” he stated. “I don’t vote, and I’ve never done it. But now, it’s to the point where even that: if I don’t vote, because I don’t say I’ll vote for this person or vote for that person, it’s a problem.”

To promote No Sign of Weakness, Burna Boy is set to embark on a world tour, kicking off in November with dates across North America. The tour promises a 360-degree stage setup designed to give fans the same immersive musical experience from every angle.

Despite the pressure, Burna Boy remains grounded in his love for the stage.

“This is going to sound selfish as hell but I definitely have more fun than everybody,” he said. “When I die, I want to go to a stage in Heaven. Every time I watch myself perform, I see a big smile on my face that I never see anywhere else.”

With No Sign of Weakness, Burna Boy once again pushes the envelope of African music, crafting an album that merges personal truths with global ambition—proof that the African Giant remains as defiant, inspired, and impactful as ever.

Shaboozey, still riding high off the success of Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, brings a smoky Southern edge to the track. His verse, steeped in country-infused storytelling, complements Burna Boy’s style beautifully. Their chemistry is palpable, crafting a musical dialogue that feels like a late-night heart-to-heart, equal parts strength and softness.

More than just a collaboration, Change Your Mind is a cultural crossover that dissolves musical borders. It’s a track that lingers long after the last note, resonating with listeners across genres and geographies.

Listen to “Change Your Mind” now on all major streaming platforms, and join the global conversation around one of the year’s most genre-bending collaborations.

This collaboration underscores Burna Boy’s continued efforts to push the boundaries of Afrofusion, building cultural bridges and reinforcing his status as a global music ambassador.

Known for chart-topping singles like ‘Ye,’ ‘Last Last,’ and ‘Anybody,’ the singer has made a name for himself by fusing African rhythms with global genres.

Shaboozey, whose genre-defying music straddles country, hip-hop, and trap influences, is also on a remarkable trajectory, gaining momentum as a boundary-pushing act in the U.S. music scene.

If the new track makes it onto the final album, it will serve as another example of Burna Boy’s knack for curating global sounds that resonate across borders, cementing ‘No Sign of Weakness‘ as one of the most anticipated releases of 2025.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama has once again showcased his love for music by releasing his annual playlist of favorite songs for 2024.

The eagerly anticipated list highlights Obama’s eclectic taste and includes tracks from African artists Rema, Tyla, and Asake, underscoring the global appeal of African music.

This year’s playlist, which features an impressive blend of genres, includes Asake’s “Active” and Rema’s “Yayo,” alongside standout tracks like Billie Eilish’s “Lunch,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up,” and Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em.” Rising stars also found a place, with Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Jordan Adetunji’s “Kehlani“2 earning spots.

The inclusion of African artists emphasizes the continued growth and influence of African music on the global stage. Asake, Rema, and South African singer Tyla join the ranks of globally celebrated musicians, shining a spotlight on their unique contributions to contemporary music.

Obama’s selections also highlight international hits, featuring Karol G’s “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” and “Gata Only” by FloyyMenor and Cris MJ. The playlist seamlessly blends hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and reggaeton, reflecting the former president’s diverse musical palette.

As a yearly ritual, Obama’s playlists not only entertain but also inspire music enthusiasts around the world by celebrating a variety of sounds and cultures. Fans of African music are particularly thrilled with the recognition of their favorites on such a prestigious platform.

South African singer Tyla made a stunning impact at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) in Los Angeles, winning two prestigious accolades and solidifying her place as one of the Afrobeats genre’s brightest stars.

The 22-year-old, who received eight nominations across six categories, took home the awards for Top Afrobeats Song and Top Afrobeats Artist at the Thursday night event, marking a major achievement in her career.

On a night full of memorable moments, Taylor Swift made history as the most decorated artist in the BBMA’s history, claiming ten awards. Zach Bryan followed with five, while Morgan Wallen earned four. Shaboozey, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Elevation Worship each walked away with three awards.

While Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems have previously been celebrated at the Billboard Music Awards, Tyla’s victories underscore her swift rise and the increasing global influence of South African music within the Afrobeats scene.

Tyla’s double win—Top Afrobeats Artist and Top Afrobeats Song for her hit track “Water”—adds another milestone to a year marked by her growing international presence.

Though Taylor Swift and Zach Bryan were key figures in this year’s awards, Tyla’s achievement resonated deeply within the Afrobeats community. It was a monumental moment, as she became a first-time finalist at the prestigious event, alongside music giants like Drake and Kendrick Lamar. This recognition is just one of many, as Tyla has also claimed a Grammy, two BET Awards, and an MTV VMA in 2024.

Tyla’s win at the BBMA reflects her dedication to representing African music on the world stage. She has been vocal about the diversity of African genres, proudly sharing her pride in representing South Africa’s amapiano culture. “African music is more than just Afrobeats,” she remarked earlier this year after her MTV VMA win.

Despite her meteoric success, Tyla remains grounded and focused on her music and fans. After completing a South African tour that included stops in Cape Town and Johannesburg, she will return to the stage for another performance in Pretoria this January.

Tyla also electrified the BBMA stage with dynamic performances of “Push 2 Start” and “Shake Ah,” further solidifying her status as a global music sensation.

Burna Boy has stirred excitement among fans with a potential collaboration with American-Nigerian country music sensation Shaboozey.

The two artists were recently seen together in a recording studio, sparking anticipation for what could be a genre-blending project.

Fans are eager to see the fusion of Burna Boy’s Afrobeats prowess with Shaboozey’s unique blend of country music, which has catapulted him to fame with his hit single, ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’—a track that dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks.

Burna Boy’s 2024 has been a success despite a relatively quiet release schedule. His single *Higher* claimed the top spot on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 100, while his features have been widely celebrated, including his work on TiTom and Yuppe’s chart-topping ‘Twala Bam‘ and Coldplay’s ‘We Pray‘ alongside Little Simz.

Recently, Burna’s ‘Headliners Only‘ concert featured an electrifying performance with Akon, where he previewed songs from his upcoming album, including a track titled ‘Empty Chairs.‘

This potential collaboration with Shaboozey marks another milestone in Burna Boy’s growing influence in the U.S., where his 2022 album ‘Love, Damini‘ is now eligible for an RIAA Gold certification.

Fans are now eagerly awaiting Burna’s next album, slated for 2025, and this promising collaboration suggests he’s poised for another impactful year.
