The stalemate at the City Ground left Forest hovering just three points above the Premier League drop zone, prompting the club’s hierarchy to act swiftly. Dyche’s dismissal means Forest are now searching for their fourth manager of the season, a remarkable level of instability with crucial fixtures ahead.

In a brief statement posted on social media, the club confirmed the decision:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future.”

The draw against bottom-placed Wolves proved to be the tipping point. Despite dominating proceedings and registering 35 shots, Forest failed to score, and the home crowd made their frustration clear by booing the team off at full-time.

Dyche, 54, appeared to sense what was coming. Speaking after the match, he admitted he was realistic about the precarious nature of his position under owner Evangelos Marinakis, whose impatience has already reshaped the club’s season multiple times.

“The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt,” Dyche said. “If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. We’ve all seen it.

“If the owner wants to make a change, then that’s up to him, and that’s the way football is now, that’s just the reality of it.

“He’s been absolutely fair with me from the beginning to the end, and I’ve been fair with him and told him the truth every step of the way.”

Marinakis had already dismissed Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou earlier in the campaign. Nuno, who guided Forest to a Europa League place last season, reportedly departed after disagreements over transfer dealings. Postecoglou’s stint lasted just 39 days, while Dyche survived 114 days before becoming the latest casualty.

The timing adds further pressure, with Forest set to travel to Turkey for a Europa League clash against Fenerbahce on February 19 before hosting Liverpool three days later.

With relegation danger looming and European commitments still in play, Marinakis now faces another pivotal managerial appointment, one that could define Forest’s season.

Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari kicks off the list after a quietly impressive month. The 22-year-old has already surpassed last season’s goal and assist numbers, registering two goals and two assists in four January appearances.

At Manchester United, Patrick Dorgu caught the eye during a flawless month under interim boss Michael Carrick. Deployed high up the pitch, the winger found the net against Arsenal and Manchester City, while also providing an assist during Darren Fletcher’s brief spell in charge.

Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández delivered when it mattered most, scoring late winners against Manchester City and West Ham. His January return of three goals and one assist under Liam Rosenior highlighted his growing leadership role in midfield.

West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville rediscovered his scoring touch after a long drought. Having gone without a league goal since October 2024, the Dutchman struck in three consecutive matches against Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Sunderland.

Brentford striker Igor Thiago is chasing history, hoping to become the first player to win the award twice this season. He enjoyed a prolific month, scoring five goals, including a hat-trick against Everton and a brace against Sunderland.

Harry Wilson earns back-to-back nominations after another productive spell for Fulham. With goals against Chelsea, Brighton and Liverpool, the Welshman continues to push Marco Silva’s side toward European contention as his contract situation draws attention.

Completing the list is Florian Wirtz, who receives his first nomination since joining Liverpool. The German midfielder contributed three goals and one assist, standing out during a difficult month in which the Reds managed just one win from six league games.

Manager of the Month contenders

The managerial shortlist reflects dramatic turnarounds and impressive short-term impacts:

Michael Carrick (Manchester United)

Sean Dyche (Nottingham Forest)

Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth)

Liam Rosenior (Chelsea)

United interim boss Michael Carrick makes an immediate impression, guiding the Red Devils to back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Arsenal in his brief January spell.

At Nottingham Forest, Sean Dyche steadied the ship after a worrying run of four straight defeats. His side responded with two wins and a draw, suffering just one loss against Aston Villa.

Andoni Iraola also turned Bournemouth’s fortunes around. After enduring an 11-match winless run, the Cherries sparked into life with a dramatic 3–2 victory over Tottenham, followed by further wins against Liverpool and Wolves.

Chelsea’s Liam Rosenior rounds off the list after a dream start to his Premier League tenure. Victories over Brentford, Crystal Palace, and West Ham made him only the fourth English manager to win his first three league games.

With new names dominating both shortlists, January’s awards promise fresh winners and plenty of debate among fans before the final verdict is announced.

Nottingham Forest have officially appointed Sean Dyche as their new head coach, the club announced on Tuesday, confirming the 52-year-old’s return to familiar ground after years away from his boyhood side.

Forest’s move for Dyche came swiftly in the wake of Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal, which followed a disappointing 3–0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge over the weekend.

The former Everton and Burnley boss, who began his football journey as a youth player at Forest, will make his managerial debut for the club on Thursday when they face FC Porto in the Europa League.

Dyche has signed a contract running until the summer of 2027, becoming Forest’s third manager of a turbulent season. Postecoglou had replaced Nuno Espirito Santo, who departed after clashing with owner Evangelos Marinakis and sporting director Edu Gaspar.

In a statement on their official website, Forest described Dyche as “a respected and experienced Premier League manager” who brings “the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement to guide the club through its next chapter.”

The statement added:

“Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches in his career to date, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organisation, resilience, and strength from set pieces — qualities that align closely with the current squad’s attributes and the club’s footballing identity.”

“As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche also has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters. With his character, tactical acumen and man-management skills, his appointment represents the best opportunity for a successful and competitive season across both domestic and European competitions.”

Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the appointment of Sean Dyche as the Club’s new Head Coach, following a thorough recruitment process led by Global Head of Football, Edu Gaspar, and Global Technical Director, George Syrianos.

Postecoglou’s exit brings an abrupt end to a 39-day tenure, marking the shortest permanent managerial spell in Premier League history after he failed to win any of his eight matches in charge.

Before settling on Dyche, Marinakis reportedly considered several high-profile names, including Roberto Mancini and Marco Silva, but ultimately chose the Englishman for his experience and stability.

Dyche has been out of management since January after parting ways with Everton, where he spent two years. During his spell at Goodison Park, he notably kept the Toffees in the top flight amid points deductions for financial breaches.

Prior to that, Dyche’s nine-and-a-half-year stint at Burnley cemented his reputation as one of English football’s most resilient tacticians, guiding the club to several Premier League seasons and even European qualification.

Now back where it all began, Dyche’s challenge is clear — to steady a Forest side searching for identity and results in both the Premier League and Europe.

Everton have announced the dismissal of manager Sean Dyche just hours before their FA Cup third-round match against Peterborough.

Dyche, who took charge in January 2023, departs after managing only three wins from 19 games this season, leaving the club just one point above the relegation zone.

In a recent statement, Dyche admitted that results had been disappointing and acknowledged the legitimacy of scrutiny over his position.

“To be clear, it should be,” he said. “If you’re running a business of this size, and this club, succession planning should surely be part of their diligence. You’ve got to win games, and we haven’t done that often enough this season. It comes down to me, without any shadow of a doubt.”

Dyche’s departure also sees the exit of key members of his backroom staff, including Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard, and Billy Mercer.

Everton have started their search for a permanent replacement, but for now, first-team duties will be handled by Under-18 manager Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman. The duo will lead the team in their FA Cup clash against Peterborough on Thursday.

Everton have reportedly made a £45million offer to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.

It happens just an hour after Sean Dyche was officially named Everton’s manager as the Toffees attempt to strengthen their squad following the loss of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle.

According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Everton has offered £40 million with £5 million in add-ons.

The rumoured deal would cost exactly £40 million plus £5 million in add-ons, which is the price for which Anthony Gordon was sold to Newcastle.

Since other teams are also interested in Gallagher, the Blues will decide what to do with him soon.

Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle United have all expressed interest in signing the 22-year-old England international, but it is believed that he wants to stay at Chelsea.

In order to compete for a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge, Gallagher returned to his parent club at the beginning of the summer after spending the previous campaign on loan at Crystal Palace.

Last season, the 22-year-old thrived under Patrick Vieira, contributing to Palace’s mid-table finish with eight goals and three assists.

Gallagher was believed to have no desire to quit Chelsea despite still being chosen to play for the first team after returning to Stamford Bridge.

Everton have confirmed and announced the appointment of former Burnley boss Sean Dyche as their new manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

After speaking with former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, Mp3bullet reported on Friday that Dyche has been chosen by the Everton board as Frank Lampard’s replacement.

Dyche is Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri’s third permanent manager since taking over the club over seven years ago.

Dyche, one of the Premier League’s most regarded and experienced managers, will be assisted by former Nottingham Forest winger Ian Woan as Assistant Manager, ex-England international Steve Stone as First-Team Coach, and Mark Howard, who will assist with sports science. All three employees previously worked for Dyche at Burnley.

Dyche told the club’s official website: “It’s an honour to become Everton manager. My staff and I are ready and eager to help get this great club back on track.

“I know about Everton’s passionate fanbase and how precious this club is to them. We’re ready to work and ready to give them what they want. That starts with sweat on the shirt, effort and getting back to some of the basic principles of what Everton Football Club has stood for for a long time.We want to bring back a good feeling. We need the fans, we need unity and we need everyone aligned. That starts with us as staff and players.

“Our aim is to put out a team that works, that fights and wears the badge with pride. The connection with the fans can then grow very quickly because they’re so passionate.

“We want to change the shape of this club going forward, remodel it in our style, but in a way that we can win.

“That’s the task in front of us – make sure we’re building, tactically and technically, giving players organisation, allow them the freedom to play, to go and enjoy their football because it’s brilliant when the team’s playing with a smile, but we’ve got to win.”

A 2-0 loss to fellow strugglers West Ham on January 21 kept Lampard’s team in last place with 15 points after 20 games, two points outside the safety zone.

The Merseyside team has been struggling under the former England international; their most recent league victory came in a 3-0 home victory over Crystal Palace in October.

After managing Derby County in the second tier in 2018/19 and Chelsea from 2019–2021, Lampard was signed by Everton in January 2022. However, Dyche will now be responsible for stopping the club’s descent into the Championship.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said: “Kevin [Thelwell, director of football] and I spent some valuable time with Sean over the past few days and he quickly convinced me that he has exactly the right attributes to make himself a great Everton manager – and a man who could inspire our fanbase. And Farhad felt the same when he met him, too.”

On February 4, Everton will host league-leading Arsenal in Dyche’s debut game in that position.

According to reports, Everton are set to appoint Sean Dyche as their next manager following the departure of Frank Lampard.

Lampard was fired earlier this week, and Everton has spent the previous few days interviewing potential replacements, including former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Bielsa was reportedly interested in the Everton position, and earlier this week he went from South America to England for another round of negotiations. However, sources now indicate that the Toffees have chosen Dyche over Bielsa.

Although Bielsa was fascinated by the prospect of taking over another defunct powerhouse like Everton, he had reservations about the club’s plan and, following another round of talks, has now been eliminated from consideration.

Everton had discussed hiring Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti, the brother of Blancos manager and former Everton manager Carlo, but Dyche has been chosen instead by those in power at Goodison.

Dyche has been jobless since leaving Burnley in April. The Clarets terminated his ten-year tenure at the club after making an ultimately unsuccessful effort to avoid relegation.

By Friday, Everton wanted to replace Lampard, so they intensified their negotiations over a series of meetings on Thursday.

Dyche is expected to be appointed imminently and will then have a week to work with his new side ahead of his first match in charge – a visit from Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday 4 February.
