Richarlison made a dramatic impact off the bench to rescue Tottenham, scoring one goal and setting up the winning one for Dejan Kulusevski in the 10th minute of stoppage time, stunning Sheffield United.

The Brazilian forward had recently returned from international duty in Brazil, where he had expressed the need for psychological support to deal with off-pitch challenges. However, he chose to play and proved to be a game-changer as Spurs turned the match around in a frantic 12 minutes of added time.

Tottenham trailed after Gustavo Hamer’s goal when the board displayed additional time. Sheffield United also tested Tottenham’s patience in alternative ways during the first half. On two occasions, they had players down with injuries – first Vinicius Souza, writhing in pain while clutching his head, and then Foderingham, who suffered a hamstring strain, necessitating extended treatment.

In both instances, the Sheffield United coach, Heckingbottom, used the breaks to gather his team for hydration and tactical discussions.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou expressed frustration with the fourth official and repeated his discontent when only three minutes of added time were announced at the conclusion of the first half. It was during this stoppage time period that Sheffield United missed a golden opportunity to take the lead.

McBurnie found himself unmarked as he arrived at the penalty spot to meet a corner kick. He rose swiftly and made solid contact with his header, but unfortunately directed it straight into the waiting hands of Guglielmo Vicario, who was positioned in the center of his goal.

The visitors would have won by two yards either way.

Their sole realistic opportunity. Vicario made a fantastic save on James McAtee, but the flag was raised because the ball was out before Jayden Bogle crossed. Earlier, strike partner McBurnie’s shot was accidentally blocked by Cameron Archer.

When Foderingham was knocked down by a collision with Micky van de Ven early in the second half, there was additional time-wasting criticism. There was no doubt that he had indeed been struck in the face and was due medical attention.

The home supporters, on the other hand, believed he was milking the situation when it took him so long to tie his gloves and take the free kick. Due to handling outside of his penalty box in the first half, Foderingham already had one yellow card.

Referee Peter Bankes was standing with his arms raised and his wristwatch in his hand. It developed into a sideshow with personality. Players from Sheffield United collapsed from cramps, the home crowd became furious, and the game lost all direction.

Heckingbottom was successful if his goal was to disturb Tottenham’s rhythms when he arrived.

His defending unit was also being pushed farther but remained steadfast. Cristian Romero could have done better with his header, but he blazed it wide. Manor Solomon cut in and curled a chance wide, and there were increasingly desperate penalty appeals.

Spurs struggled to respond effectively as the Blades increased their threat on the counterattack and won set pieces.

Jack Robinson, the center half, launched a long throw deep into the penalty box, from which Hamer scored. It was left untouched. Although McBurnie was the closest, the ball bounced all the way to Hamer, who was standing at the back post.

The Dutch-Brazilian midfielder produced an excellent finish by directing a half-volley along the ground, across Vicario, and into the goal off the opposing post. Since moving from Coventry in the summer, he had scored twice.

Brennan Johnson, who made his professional debut during Postecouglou’s triple substitution, appeared to have equalized when he flawlessly controlled a long Bissouma pass and rocketed it past Foderingham.

He was simply offside, which is unfortunate for the new signing. Richarlison followed suit and went over. Foderingham rejected Kulusevski.

The Spurs then got to work as the clock showed an additional 12 minutes.

As the forward attempts to move past a “turbulent” time, Richarlison has disclosed he will seek “psychological help” upon returning to Tottenham.

Recently, Richarlison has struggled for both Tottenham and Brazil and as a result, the 26-year-old was inconsolable after being substituted in his team’s 5-1 victory over Bolivia on Saturday.

The Spurs player was substituted in the second half of Tuesday’s 1-0 triumph for Brazil over Peru after he had missed a crucial opportunity before being removed. He concluded the international break without scoring.

The former Everton player claimed during the game that those with an interest in his money have “walked away” from him because of his struggles with off-field issues.

He told the Brazilian newspaper Globo: “I went through a turbulent time in the last five months off the field. Now things are right at home. People who only had an eye on my money walked away from me. Now things will start to flow, I’m sure I’ll get a good run at Tottenham and make things happen again. That sad moment wasn’t even because I played poorly [against Bolivia], in my opinion, I didn’t play a bad game in Belem, it was more of an outburst about the things that were happening off the field, which got out of control not on my part, but on the part of people who were close to me.

“I’m going to go back to England, to seek psychological help, from a psychologist, to work on my mind. That’s it, come back stronger. I believe I will be in the next squad, I will work for that. It’s about getting a good streak at Tottenham, this week I’m going to sit down and talk to them, I need a good streak, get the rhythm of the game.”

Since joining Spurs for £50 million ($60 million) from Everton in July 2022, Richarlison has scored just four goals in 40 games and hasn’t scored for Brazil since the 2022 World Cup.

The Brazilian is one of many players who must provide goals for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team since record-setter Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich this summer. His time at the north London business may be numbered if he doesn’t succeed in doing so.

Richarlison, who has scored this year in the Carabao Cup but hasn’t in the Premier League, will likely return to action on Saturday when Spurs play newly promoted Sheffield United.

“Then the players even said: ‘Richi, don’t do this anymore. Stay two hours waiting’ [laughs]. Everyone wanted to go, and we were there. Solved, fine.

“After they sent him away, I sent him a message. I apologised because he was the guy who asked for me to be hired, and I couldn’t help him as much as he thought I could. The least I could do is apologise for what happened there.”

Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as Conte’s replacement at the club as Spurs attempt to improve on their eighth-place league finish from the previous campaign.

Guglielmo Vicario, an Italian goalkeeper, has been signed on a five-year contract, and James Maddison has moved in a £40 million deal from Leicester.

Richarlison signed with Tottenham during the 2022 summer transfer window for a cost that could top £60 million, although his first season with the Lilywhites saw him mainly fall short of expectations.

The Brazilian scored just one goal for the team in 27 Premier League games during the 2022–23 season, but he did score two more during their UEFA Champions League run.

Richarlison has been linked with a move to Real Madrid despite his lacklustre performance last season, in part because of his friendship with manager Carlo Ancelotti (the two previously worked together at Everton).

During a press conference while on international duty, Richarlison was asked about these links, replying: “Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world and every player wants to wear their shirt.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte responded harshly to Richarlison’s remarks about having a “sh*t season,” stressing the Brazilian’s poor record.

The Italian manager of Tottenham had one of his worst weeks as his team was ousted from the FA Cup and Champions League quarterfinals in the same week, with a disastrous 1-0 Premier League loss to lowly Wolves sandwiched in between. One of the harshest among the many nasty remarks was from his own player.

Richarlison lashed out at Spurs’ “sh*t season” and at Conte in particular for benching him for all but 20 minutes of the game following Wednesday’s European loss at the hands of Milan. But, the Italian strategist has since emphasized that the Brazilian was really talking about his own disappointing performance during the interview, and Conte concurs.

“I watched Richarlison’s interview. He didn’t criticise me, he said ‘my season is sh*t’ and he’s right, his season is not good,” the Spurs manager said in a press conference. “He had a lot of injuries, he went to the World Cup, he had another injury, then back and one month out, then other injuries. He scored zero goals with us, only two in Champions League. But our season hasn’t finished. He has the time to recover and if he deserves to play I’ll give him the opportunity.

A substantial portion of the fan base has become disillusioned by the uninspired pragmatic performances, which are a long cry from the exhilarating type of football promoted by Mauricio Pochettino only a few years ago. Conte once more emphasized the weaknesses of his team while drawing criticism for his leadership style.

“We can’t do miracles,” the Italian added. “If I am to take the people as a target. We’ll see what happens in the future. I’m not stupid to kill myself. Until the end though I am ready to die for this club but then we’ll see, I’m not too stupid to keep killing myself”.

Spurs have miraculously maintained their position in fourth place despite a terrible run of results, moving three points ahead of Liverpool despite having played one more game.

When Nottingham Forest visits on Saturday, the Italian will be hoping his team can widen the margin. But, another loss would undoubtedly put Conte’s job at the club in jeopardy.

Fans and a panel of experts were given the opportunity to vote for their first, second, and third preferences from a preliminary shortlist of 11 goals. The points each goal garnered were totalled together to determine which three goals would make the final cut.

Tottenham Hotspur FC have confirmed and completed the signing of forward Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal for the rest of the 2022–23 season.

Danjuma has signed a short-term loan agreement with the North London club after Spurs sensationally outbid Everton to sign the Dutch international at the last minute. Without a buy option, the 25-year-old joins Antonio Conte’s squad for the rest of the current campaign.

Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Lucas Moura’s injuries haven’t benefited the team, and Son Heung-Min hasn’t been playing well.

There will be hopes that Danjuma can add that quality in depth after completing his switch to north London, with a possible debut against Preston in the FA Cup this weekend on the cards.

However, for the Dutch international, who was on the verge of securing a transfer to another Premier League club, things could have turned out quite differently.

That’s because reports stated that a deal to join Everton on loan for the remainder of the season was all but completed, having held talks with the current crisis club. A medical was said to have been finalised, with signatures all in place and media duties completed too.

The Toffees were grappling with Frank Lampard’s departure as manager after a terrible stretch of results when the deal collapsed as Spurs spotted an opportunity.

It’s one of the unexpected U-turns in the transfer market, and it’s unclear if the London club will benefit the most from the signing.

Villarreal have confirmed that there is an option to buy in the deal too. Writing in their own statement: “Villarreal CF and Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement for the loan of Arnaut Danjuma. The Dutch forward will play for the London club until the end of the current 2022/23 season. The loan agreement includes a purchase option.”

Following Sunday’s north London derby, the Metropolitan Police have revealed that they have charged a 35-year-old fan with assaulting Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against Tottenham on Sunday courtesy of first-half goals from Martin Odegaard and an own goal from Hugo Lloris.

After the game, Ramsdale was seen kissing the Arsenal badge when things took a somewhat unpleasant turn as substitute Richarlison confronted him.
