• Billboard ranks the best female rappers of all-time

In a major nod to the power and influence of women in hip-hop, Billboard has officially dropped its curated list of the Best Female Rappers of All Time—and it’s already sparking heated debates across the music world.

Carefully crafted by Billboard’s editorial team, the list recognizes the female trailblazers who have redefined the rap game. The selection criteria include lyrical prowess, cultural impact, longevity, and game-changing influence, spotlighting those who not only dominated the charts but also shaped the future of the genre.

Leading the charge is none other than Nicki Minaj, whose decade-plus reign is marked by record-breaking hits, iconic music videos, and a larger-than-life presence that blurs the lines between hip-hop and pop royalty.

Hot on her heels is the legendary Queen Latifah, a pioneer whose contributions to both music and acting have made her one of the most multifaceted figures in entertainment history.

Coming in strong at number three is Missy Elliott, the visionary known for pushing creative boundaries with her futuristic visuals and genre-bending sound, forever changing the landscape for women in rap.

The list also salutes game-changers like Lil’ Kim, famed for her fearless image and unmistakable style, and the duo Salt-N-Pepa, who broke barriers in the late ’80s and early ’90s, paving the way for countless women in the genre.

With nine nominations each, Cardi B, Lil Durk, and Megan Thee Stallion lead the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards nominees. With eight nods, Drake is in the second position.

With four nominations each, Tyler, the Creator and Metro Boomin tie for third place.

They’re followed by 21 Savage, DJ Khaled, J. Cole, and Pooh Shiesty, who each received three nods, as well as Bia, Chris Brown, Doja Cat, Jay Z, Lil Nas X, Migos, Nicki Minaj, Roddy Ricch, Saweetie, Young Thug, and Yung Bleu, who each received two nods.

The only group or pair with two more nominations is Migos.

Cardi B, Drake, J. Cole, Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion and Tyler, the Creator are the nominees for hip hop artist of the year.

The 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards will hold at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta on Friday, Oct. 1 and will premiere on BET on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The show will simulcast internationally on BET Africa on Wednesday, October 6 AT 3 AM CAT.

The BET Hip Hop Awards are an annual awards show, airing on BET, showcasing hip hop performers, producers and music video directors.
