Barcelona winger Raphinha has refuted claims that he has authorized the team to begin accepting bids for him during the forthcoming summer transfer window.

Raphinha moved from Leeds to Barcelona last summer in a deal worth up to £55 million. The Brazilian’s season got off to a rocky start as he was in and out of the starting lineup and had trouble scoring and providing assists.

Although he only made four direct goal contributions in his first 15 La Liga appearances, he has found his groove after 2022 became 2023.

However, with plans to re-sign Lionel Messi, Barcelona’s continued financial issues will necessitate player sales once more in order to earn money for the upcoming season.

After Barcelona’s razor-thin 1-0 victory against Athletic Club on Sunday night, manager Xavi insisted that his team needed to be more clinical in front of the goal.

Raphinha’s goal in stoppage time of the first half proved to be the deciding factor between the two teams; Athletic had an Iker Muniain goal disallowed for handball. The outcome kept Barcelona nine points ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga.

That was Barcelona’s ninth 1-0 victory of the season, and despite leaving San Mames with all three points, Xavi urged his team to show more clinical edge. Barcelona has only given up eight goals in 25 league games.

“We have to improve in that aspect, be calmer and more patient and play more in the opposite field. Defensive solvency must also be valued, but it is true that we have to improve in the opposite field.”

Xavi said that Sergio Busquets is still “providing a lot” to Barcelona and that his performance level has been one of the season’s “surprises” in hopes that the veteran midfielder will continue to play at Camp Nou.

After recently defeating Carlo Ancelotti’s team 1-0 at home in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal, Xavi’s Barcelona team has home advantage and bragging rights in what might be the title-deciding Clasico.

Raphinha has told Catalunya Radio of his favoured position: “I haven’t played on the left for a long, long time. Almost five years ago. I adapted to playing on the right and I like playing there better. The problem is that when you arrive at a new club, it is important to play in your place to adapt and play well. Xavi’s existing contract as Barcelona boss is due to expire next summer, but president Laporta has suggested that an extension has already been considered – and will be offered – by the club.

“I have already thought about a renewal,” Laporta admitted. “I think we should renew him because he has earned it. He knows the house. He knows Barca. He doesn’t ask us for crazy things [as per transfers]. He perfectly understands the situation of the club.”

The Blaugrana’s financial struggled are well-documented, with their high wages seeing them fall foul of La Liga’s salary cap rules on a number of occasions in the past.

They were blocked from making any permanent signings during the January transfer window and face a battle to free up enough money to put their ambitious plans into action once the end of the season arrives.

“It is difficult for us to register players due to the salary limit and the regulations,” Laporta admitted. “La Liga sets limits based on clubs’ accounts, and in the case of Barcelona, we inherited a limit exceeded by millions and millions.

“There are contracts that were increased, it was exceeded by between €300m and €350m. A titanic effort has been made. As of today, we have reduced it by €100m and we hope to reach €175m in the summer, while also keeping a competitive team. The levers helped that.

“As we continue with a salary that exceeds the limit, it costs the club and La Liga sets more restrictive regulations. With these regulations and the levers, we have registered players with a titanic effort, but La Liga has been changing the regulations so that we cannot do these operations. Every time we overcome an obstacle, La Liga changes the norm for us.”

It’s unclear exactly how Barcelona will reduce that pay. Regarding contracts that are about to expire, experienced midfielder Sergio Busquets must be decided upon, while Sergi Roberto is reportedly close to signing an extension.

At the halfway point of the La Liga season, Barcelona has 50 points while only giving up seven goals.

Xavi hailed his troops for churning out a hard-fought victory at a raucous Benito Villamarin and claimed that they put in an improved display from their victory over Girona on Saturday. “I’m very happy with the game,” he said. “We have improved a lot compared to the game against Girona. We played a brilliant game. Today it was key not to lose the ball and we minimised just that. We dominated from start to finish.”

The forward will hope to continue with his good form when Barcelona host Sevilla at Camp Nou on Sunday in another league encounter.

Raphinha is the most recent forward to be linked with Arsenal, but the Brazil international has said that Barcelona is where he sees his future.

The 26-year-old winger, who formed part of his country’s plans at the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar, only left English football last summer when completing a big-money move from Leeds to Camp Nou.

He is already being linked with a return to the Premier League with Arsenal, though, after the Gunners missed out on signing both Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk – who have both joined Chelsea.

However, despite this speculation, Raphinha seemed to suggest that he would be staying put in the short term.

After stepping off the bench to help Barca to a 3-1 victory over Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup, Raphinha told reporters: “This is my first trophy with this giant club, this enormous shirt of FC Barcelona – it’s incredible. And so now we go for more trophies.”

Raphinha appears to have no intention of negotiating a move to Emirates Stadium, despite the fact that regular starts have been difficult to come by this season in a star-studded Barcelona squad.

Arsenal will continue to scout the market for potential additions as they sit top of the Premier League table, although luring South American sensation Raphinha away from Liga table-toppers may be difficult given that the winter window closes on January 31.

Football fans around the world have been surprised by recent news from Spain, which implies that Barcelona is planning to sell Raphinha.

It appears that Raphinha and Barcelona’s recently established connection is not working well because sources claim that the Brazilian is currently for sale. Many were greatly surprised by this given the great effort the Spanish powerhouses had made to get the former Leeds United and Brazilian winger.

At the start of the 2022–2023 season, Barcelona had spent more than 55 million pounds on Raphinha during the transfer window, but the player seemed to have fallen short of expectations.

Because Raphinha has not been impressive this season and has been demoted to begin off the bench by French star Dembele, who also plays the same position as the Brazilian, reports have suggested that Barcelona will consider bids for the player.

The winger has only scored 5 goals for Barcelona in the 2022/2023 season and has only managed 2 assists in the same season as well. This is abysmal compared to the 13 goals and 7 assists Demebele alone has made in the 2022/2023 season.

Due to the new contract given to Dembele, getting game time at Barca had been a major issue when the deal was being finalized. It appears that these concerns were justified as the Spanish giants are currently looking for an alternative.
