In a recent social media post, renowned Afrobeat producer Philkeyz revealed that he was the mastermind behind Kizz Daniel’s track “Cough (Odo).” However, to Philkeyz’s surprise, Kizz Daniel removed his production tag and replaced it with Blaise Beats without obtaining Philkeyz’s consent.

During an interview, Philkeyz expressed his dismay over the situation, mentioning that he confronted Kizz Daniel regarding the alteration. However, instead of addressing the matter directly, Kizz Daniel opted to send his brother, who also serves as his manager, to handle the discussion.

Philkeyz emphasized that this wasn’t the first instance of Kizz Daniel disregarding proper credit, highlighting a recurring pattern of behaviour where Kizz Daniel chooses to sidestep accountability.

Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, better known by his stage name Kizz Daniel, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and an Afropop icon in the Nigerian music industry.

He is best known for his singles “Woju” and “Yeba”. He went by the stage name Kiss Daniel prior to changing it in May 2018.

Introduction

He signed a record deal with G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2013 but left the label following a publicized contract dispute and court case.

He founded the Fly Boy Inc record label in November 2017. In November 2017, Kizz Daniel announced his split from his record label, G-Worldwide, and created his own label called FLYBOY I.N.C.

He was sued in court by the former record label but was not found guilty of any of the crimes he was accused of.

In May 2018, Kizz Daniel announced that he had changed his stage name from Kiss Daniel to Kizz Daniel, a name that immediately reflected on his social media accounts.

New Spotify and Apple Music accounts were also created immediately with the names Kizz Daniel, with his new songs featured.

In June 2018, Kizz Daniel’s former record label G-Worldwide made a move to own the rights to the name “Kizz Daniel” and further advised the singer to desist from using the name or face legal consequences in a press release sent out to media houses.

In October 2018 Daniel responded to the suit and statement made by his former record label G-Worldwide through his own lawyer.

Flyboy Inc Era

Titled No Bad Songz, it contains 20 songs and featured Nasty C, Diamond Platnumz, Philkeyz, Demmie Vee, DJ Xclusive, and Sarkodie.

The album was well-received by music fans and debuted at number 55 on the US iTunes Chart, becoming number 1 on the World Album Chart within a day of its release.

Falz’s Bop Daddy sprang to prominence and grabbed the internet by storm, using the same concept as Young T & Bugsey’s smash song “Don’t Rush.”

It shows groups of friends changing from their “home clothes” and makeup-free faces to a more glammed up look with the flick of a makeup brush on the camera.

It quickly became a favourite of many, to the point where it got several female Nigerian immigration officers in hot water with their agency.

Wizkid- Joro

“Joro” has always been popular since its release in 2019. However, 2021, saw it resurface again with ladies taking over Tik-Tok with the song.

The rhythms on Wizkid’s Joro are tremendously enticing, as is the way his voice catches it just before it falls and then bounces along with the beats.

The chorus is particularly powerful in this regard, thus it’s no wonder that it quickly became a TikTok challenge. The fact that the challenge didn’t peak until two years after the song’s release is surprising.

It also got further leverage after Kenyan actress, Lupita Nyongo jumped on the challenge in February 2021.

Ajimovoix Drums- Focus Dance Beat

Street-hop music in Nigeria has to be one of the most colourful and unusual subgenres to have graced the scene, with the music continuing to bloom in the most unexpected manner as a desert rose.

One of these is the synth-laced ‘Focus dance‘ track, which has become an online success owing to two dancers, Hangman DC and Abati, who started the Focus dance.

Ckay- Love Nwantiti

Now, “Love Nwantiti” became the second solo Nigerian Song to chart on Billboard Hot 100. The song also charted on various charts and amassed huge streaming numbers for Ckay.

Simi- Duduke

Simi’s mid-tempo pop record with an Afro-life vibe was released like any other song.

Simi then devised a challenge to help her interact with her fans more effectively. She posted a video on TikTok with the Duduke song playing in the background, showing her pregnant belly while dancing.

Sometimes last week,  Mp3bullet.ng reported that Winner of the Best World music album category at the Grammy Award teamed up with Nigerian Afro Pop Artist Yemi Alade to create a culture rich video for Yemi Alade’s 2019 release ‘Shekere’.

The duo paired to create the music video for  ‘Shekere’ not long after the Benin national picked the 2020 Grammy award for the best world music album ahead of Nigerian Songster, Burna Boy.

Taking Advantage of the spotlight on the Legendary Benin singer,Yemi Alade chose to release the music video for the hit track when conversation on how Kidjo beat Burno boy to scoop the  Grammy Awards was still very much alive.

Shekere which has a mixture of contemporary African style and a little bit of highlife adopted a mixture of Pidgin English and the Yoruba Language which is the native language of the South Western Nigerians.

The song  portrayed the beauty of African Culture in terms of dressing and tune, it  also did not disappoint in term of dancehall and rhythm as the new Jam will make anybody who loves dancing to ‘Shake body’.

Named after the tambourine-like instrument played in various regions of the continent,  both Alade and Kidjo deliver at their best on  the song’s string-filled production.

The upbeat song also includes interpolations of Kidjo’s 1996 classic “Wombo Lombo,” as noted in Pulse Nigeria.

The music video is a colorful celebration of the continent that opens with a shot of Maasai warriors. The Ovie Etseyatse-directed song sees the artists highlighting various African cultures through dance and dress.

Alade was   seen in various beaded looks and ankara prints, while Kidjo was captured wearing  an eye-catching Zulu headdress.

Dressed in full African attire, the dancers imitate steps from African traditional dance.

the duo were also are dressed in African attire and neck graced with pieces of jewelry, a beautiful view.

In terms of vocals and Sound quality, the duo did not disappoint as they are famous for having great vocals which they utilized in the song execution.

Legendary Angelique Kidjo

known for her song that featured in Lion’s king ‘we are one’  in 1998  and  her 1996 hit track ‘Wombolombo’ amongst other popular releases, Kidjo has been in the Grammy nomination as far back as 1995, but won her first Grammy award in 2007 in the best contemporary world music category.

Is Shekere a ‘Remix’ to Kidjo’s 1996 ‘Wombolombo’?

It will interest you to know that the Benin Legendary artist had done used one of the major lines in Yemi Alade’s Shekere as far back as 1996 in her hit track wombolombo where she did not only .

Many feels that the 2019 release was in a bid to remake the song just like when 2face collaborated with PA Victor Uwaifo to remake Baby Jowo.

This might not be exactly a remake as it might only be an attempt by the Afro Pop singer to gain international relevance with the influence the Legendary Kidjo.

It is however  important to note that both songs did not only portray  the the beauty of African Culture in terms of dressing in the music video and tune.

it also adopted a mixture of Yoruba language,even  though pure English was used in the former,  the phrase ‘Wombolombo’ remained a constant word used in both tracks.
