Here are the top Sound Engineers in Nigeria who have given their all to make sure our favourite tunes come out the right way.

Similar to cooking food, the process of generating music comprises several different components.

To create a great song in a proper system, artists, attorneys, producers, beat makers, songwriters, labels, performers, and – a group of professionals who do not typically get their fair share of the spotlight – audio engineers are all brought in at various points along the way.

The Nigerian music industry, however, is far from ideal, therefore a few of these individuals frequently have to play many jobs in order to provide the music with the desired level of quality, and frequently, it is the producers and audio engineers who have to carry this load.

According to their recent quality and quantity of work, the top sound engineers and mix & master architects in Nigeria have been ranked in this list.

Vtek

Victor Kpoudosu, better known as Vtek, has comfortably assumed the job of being a hits-engineering machine despite having begun as a producer and the magic hands behind a lot of hit recordings by Psquare.

Vtek is at the top of this list with two Grammy wins, more than ten years of experience, and numerous successful songs to his credit.

He has mixing and mastering credits on a number of ground-breaking tunes, including Kizz Daniel’s “Buga,” Adekunle Gold’s “High,” Kizz Daniel’s “Lie,” songs on BNXN’s “Sorry I am Late,” numerous Yemi Alade singles, and the Grammy Award-winning “Diginity” by Angelique Kidjo, to name a few.

In 2013, he made his breakthrough with “Personally” by P-square

Vtek definitely deserves his flowers as it seems like there’s no stopping for him any time soon.

Johnny Drille

The Mavin Records artist, who is renowned as the Nigerian singer who can lock the ladies’ hearts in his pockets, also works as a mix and master engineer and has credits on the label’s 10th-anniversary album project, “Chapter X,” which features the songs “Overdose (Overloading)” and “Won Da Mo” as its lead tracks.

John Ighodaro is also credited with mixing and mastering Ayra Starr’s “Bloody Samaritan,” one of the biggest singles to come out of the country in 2022.

STG

Mayorkun released a song in June 2022 called “Certified Loner” that quickly rose to the top of several playlists across DSPs and achieved astounding chart positions.

STG handled the song’s mixing and mastering along with a few other successful African music releases. The producer and engineer, whose real name is Stephen Abenga, was born in Benue state and has been active in the industry for roughly six years.

Timi Jay

The reason why most people know Timilehin Joseph Jolaoso as Timi Jay is mostly due to his song tags, which read “Timi Jay On The Track.”

And often, this implies that well-known producer Niphkeys also contributed to the song because the two appear to have a unique musical connection.

Timi’s journey has been quite unique, ranging from BNXN’s “Commander In Chief” to Olakira’s “Maserati” and on to undeniable greatness.

The year 2022 seemed to have cemented his position in the industry after working with artists like Zinoleesky, Mohbad, Badboy Timz, Fave, Reekado Banks, Zlatan, and many others.

In Nigeria’s audio engineering scene, Swaps is a highly well-known name. This is mostly because, since 2017, his name has appeared on some of the most well-known tracks in the area.

He has worked with Davido, Flavour, Lil Kesh, Ruger, Omah Lay, Peruzzi, Cheque, Teni, Don Jazzy and a long list of other leading names in the scene.

Some of the top songs SynX produced in 2022 include “Traboski,” “Cold Outside,” “Ijo Laba Laba (Remix),” “Likkle Riddim,” “Ice Cream,” and “Diana” by BNXN, Timaya, Crayon, Joeboy, Falz, and Fireboy, respectively.

The year undoubtedly assisted in his ascent up the list, and there is tremendous anticipation for the mix genius’s future.

Oxygen Mix

Joeboy rose to prominence in 2019, as did his producer Beats By KO and his engineer Oxygen. One of the top Afrobeats records of 2021, “Alcohol,” was mixed and mastered by Oxygen, who is now well-known in the industry.

Milla Mix

To launch Milla Mix’s career, all it needed was a meeting with Skales, who would subsequently introduce him to business mogul Mr Eazi and then to DJ Neptune.

His contributions are well recognised today, and since 2016, he has continued to be influential in the field.

SpyritMix

Spyritmix has earned a Grammy for the song “Do Yourself,” which was a collaboration between Burna Boy and Angelique Kidjo. With Rexxie, Spyro, Peruzzi, Badboy Timz, and a few other names among his credits, he is ascending at an astounding rate.
