In a candid moment on Martell’s Swift Conversations, Yemi Alade opened up about the women who quietly but powerfully shaped the foundation of her artistry.

For the Afropop superstar, three names stood out: Beyoncé, Omawumi, and Waje. Each of them, she said, poured something different into the artist she eventually became.

Yemi Alade Speaks About the Women Who Inspired Her Rise

Beyoncé represented the possibility of greatness without borders. Yemi recalled how watching Queen Bey’s precision, discipline, and electrifying stagecraft taught her that an African woman could hold any stage in the world, not just confidently, but dominantly. Beyoncé became a reminder that excellence is a decision, not an accident.

Omawumi, on the other hand, embodied pure Nigerian strength. Her boldness, vocal power, and fearless authenticity resonated deeply with Yemi Alade.

She admired how Omawumi carried herself with full-chested confidence, unfiltered emotion, and zero apologies, qualities Yemi would later weave into her own larger-than-life performances.

Then there was Waje, the voice that could melt even the toughest hearts. Yemi spoke of how Waje’s emotional depth and vocal richness taught her the beauty of vulnerability in music.

Through Waje, she learned that powerful music isn’t only about loudness or range but about truth, soul, and the courage to feel.

For Yemi Alade, these women were more than inspirations; they were templates. Blueprints. Proof that female artists could stand tall in a male-dominated industry and still shine on their own terms.

Their influence helped shape her confidence, widen her ambition, and fuel her belief that she could build a global footprint of her own, and she has.

Watch her speak below:

In a heartfelt chat with HipTV, the Bottom Belle crooner reflected on the early days of her career, shortly after her breakout moment on Idols West Africa. She revealed that it was during this period that she met Cobhams, whose faith in her talent changed everything.

“Cobhams gave me one of my first opportunities outside Idol West Africa,” Omawumi recalled. “He told me to just go with it, and that project became a major turning point for me.”

That simple act of belief became a defining moment in her journey. Omawumi explained that their collaboration unexpectedly paved the way for her first major endorsement deal, one that lasted for two years.

“I did the song, and then the agency picked it. I became the brand ambassador for that product for two years,” she revealed.

The exposure from that partnership also opened new stages for the singer, giving her the chance to perform alongside P-Square at four major concerts across various cities.

Beyond the success and fame, Omawumi said Cobhams’ mentorship left a lasting imprint on her artistry. She described the producer as a creative genius whose insights not only shaped her sound but also her stage confidence.

“Cobhams taught me a lot of nuances when it comes to delivery and posture,” she said. “He helped me understand how to express emotion through performance.”

Omawumi’s reflection serves as both a tribute and a reminder of the power of mentorship in Nigeria’s ever-evolving music industry, where one act of belief can turn raw talent into timeless artistry.

Controversial Twitter influencer Daniel Regha recently discussed Grammy Award winner Tems and Mavin signee Ayra Starr in an interview, saying they are still up-and-coming artists.

Twitter influencer and contentious critic Daniel Regha recently had an appearance on BBN star Doyin’s podcast series where he discussed his opinions on the musical careers of Tems and Ayra Starr.

Influencer Regha divided artists into two categories based on their genre: emerging or established.

He further asserted that in contrast to certain singers like Tiwa Savage, Omawumi, Waje, and Nicki Minaj, the two female artists don’t have songs that can endure for ten years and are quickly forgotten.

Regha expressed his opinion on the podcast, saying that while Tems has just achieved success, it does not make her one of the best musicians in Nigeria right now.

He made a comparison between her and Tiwa Savage, saying that even if she didn’t release any new songs for ten years, Tiwa Savage would still be in demand.

Regha attacked Ayra Starr for not being as diversified as people believe she is, claiming that, unlike Tiwa Savage, she tends to rehash her sound and doesn’t explore wider themes in her songs.

Additionally, he called one of Ayra’s tracks, Sability, “useless,” casting doubt on her viability as a musician.

Omawumi Megbele has recalled her encounter with visually challenged music singer Cobhams Asuquo, insisting that he sees.

The singer could be heard informing her band members that Cobhams Asuquo truly sees in a little video she posted on Instagram.

She provided additional evidence for her allegation by relating a recent incident that shocked her.
According to her, she tripped and Cobhams promptly caught her, which lends credence to her claim.

Cobhams, for his part, rejected this while asserting that his quick action was due to a very effective reflex.

They subsequently burst into laughter before Omamumi kicked off rehearsals for an upcoming show.

Captioning the video, she wrote:

“All I can say is @cobhamsasuquo dey see o! ????”

In other news, Cobhmas recently released a special Christmas project dubbed, Christmas in Lagos.

Talking to the Guardians about the project, the singer/Producer said;

“A lot of thought goes into my music; the process is laborious sometimes. I wanted Christmas in Lagos to be a bit different. It is very whimsical; it is a testament to the fact that you can be a lot more relaxed and put out a great project. It was ‘vibes’ for me, from beginning to the end.

I feel like I have discovered a new way to make music; I do not overthink it. I just retained the same level of excellence and simplified the process. The whole project was done in less than five days. For me, that was a break from the norm of how I create music.”

He also revealed that he would be featuring Joeboy, Sauti Sol, Tubaba, Yemi Alade, Tems, Simi, Falz and others on his forthcoming album.

Mp3bullet.ng presents Nigerian artists you didn’t know studied Law.

The Nigerian entertainment industry used to be thought of as a field for dropouts who had nothing else to do.
That narrative is long gone, and some of the most famous people in entertainment today are university graduates.

The majority of people you meet in Nigeria, including those who hold the highest-level creative positions and those who have become our most well-known celebrities, all have very “practical” degrees.

A law degree is one of these degrees that is extremely common among most creative people.

On Monday, June 27 2022, the singer took to her Twitter page to appreciate Tiwa Savage, Asa, Omawumi, Waje, Yemi Alade, Simi, Niniola, Ayra Starr, Teni and many others for existing.

She noted how their decision to get up and do something inspires her.

Tems revealed that anytime she sees them gracing the stage, she feels that it is her. In her words:

“I’m taking today to appreciate all the Sisters today. Thank you for existing, thank you for deciding to get up and do something because someone saw that and became inspired by it. @Asa official @Omawumi @TiwaSavage @yemialadee @OfficialWaje @SympLySimi @OfficialNiniola @amaarae @Gyakie @ayrastarr @favesn @TeniEntertainer.

When I see anyone of you gracing a stage, I feel like that’s me. We’re all winning and we’re about to move in like a Tsunami. So before it starts, know that Love lives on this side.

As we show the world how it’s done. And if I missed any messages it is definitely unintentional. I don’t take, your kind words and support for granted. Sending you all love today because you DESERVE. Love always.”
