With the efforts of various record labels, the Nigerian music business, which is one of the country’s fastest-growing industries, has grown in size and quality throughout the years.

These record labels have aided in the development of existing artists as well as the discovery of fresh potential in the industry.

Mavin Records

Mavin Records is a Nigerian record label founded by record producer anding recording artist Don Jazzy on May 8, 2012. The label’s inception came to fruition following the closure of Mo’ Hits Records, a record label owned by the aforementioned producer and D’banj

The label is home to recording artists such as Korede Bello, Dr SID, D’Prince, Di’Ja, Johnny Drille, Ladipoe, DNA Twins, Rema, Ayra Starr, 6xSlatt and Crayon

DMW

David Adeleke, commonly known as Davido, is a Nigerian pop musician who formed Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) in 2016 after leaving his previous record company, HKN, which he co-founded with his elder brother, Adewale Adekunle.

DMW has become a household name in less than two years, having already delivered a slew of hit singles.

Davido is the frontliner of the record label, which has evolved from one to more than ten artists.

It also home to Mayorkun, Dremo, Yonda, Peruzzi, DJ E-Cool, Saucekid, Shizzi, Idowest, Speroach Beatz and most recently Ayanfe.

YBNL

Yahoo Boy No Laptop Nation, popularly known as YBNL Nation or simply YBNL, is an independent record label founded by Olamide in 2012.

Currently, it has DJ Enimoney, Pheelz and Young John the Wicked Produce, Limerick, and raving artiste, Fireboy DML

Dr Dolor Entertainment

Teni Apata, a Nigerian musician, rose to fame thanks to Dr Dolor Entertainment, which was formed by Osadolor Nate Asemota, also known as Dr Dolor.

Dr. Dolor has always had a passion for music, performing in the church choir since he was a child.

His passion for music has led him to establish a multinational music label that has dominated the Nigerian and global music scenes.

Dvpper Music Distribution

Damilola Akinwunmi created DAPPER Distribution, Records (also term as DVPPER) in 2017 as a Nigerian distribution firm and record label situated in Lagos, Nigeria.

It has released albums in a number of genres, but their Afrobeats music is its most well-known.

DVPPER has distributed so many musicians such as  Omah Lay, Ice Prince, SkiiBii, Sean Tizzle, Rexxie, Broda Shaggi, Sound Sultan, Lyta, KLY, Blaq Jerzee, Ola Dips, Nappy, Mr Real, Black Magic, Klever Jay, Savage

Starboy Entertainment

Global Pop singer Ayo Balogun popularly known as Wizkid established StarBoy Records after departing Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) in 2013. He released his second album Áyo’ via the label.

Wizkid is the major artist in this label and so far has made great music following his relatively new label. Some associated music acts in his label include Maleek Berry, Legendary Beatz, L.A.X.

Songwriter and singer, Ola Dips finally unveils his first body of work titled, The Devil You Know (TDYK) EP.

He drops a picture of a devil-like figure and with the announcement on his Instagram page.

According to him, the project will be arriving at 12:am, the 23rd of Friday.

A Twitter user has created an underrated list and the list included names like Dice Ailes, Soft, Ola Dips, Blaqbonez, Ycee amongst others.

Blaqbonez reacting to the list didn’t find it funny and asked how can an A-list Artist be underrated.

Blaqbonez isn’t the only one who takes offense to being put in an underrated list, controversial singer, Brymo whose name was included in an underrated list said that underrated list were made to underrate him.

Since “Gongo Aso” in 2008 (a decade, don’t forget), 9ice’s status has escalated (in a good way), his fame has gone down, and he has returned, again. Not to forget, his voice has deteriorated the more. Of course, being eligible for Greatest Of All Time has nothing to do with good or bad voice, but it isn’t a journey of just 10 years. Back as 1996, 9ice has been on this music grind, first as a Fuji artist, before switching. His not-too-good-for-pop voice carved him a Fuji-Pop niche. And, before there was anything like “frog voice,” there was 9ice!
Am I the only one excited by the announcement of a new album? While five years ago, the news might not have moved me a bit, I’m exhilarated now. Why? 9ice is the Greatest Of All Time. That’s what makes the difference.

The veteran Ogbomosho-born singer, might not have as much albums as Olamide (he does) but, he sure does have a bigger impact on the pop culture. In the past 20 years “Gongo Aso,” remains one of the best albums, in Nigeria. Free me now, what old skool mix is complete without “Gongo Aso” and “Pamurogo” ? His hit “Street Credibility,” which featured 2face Idibia, didn’t only give him credibility on the streets, it also took out of Nigeria. Not to talk of how “Party Rider” rode parties in ’09.

9ice’s style of music is characterized by meaningful indigenous lyrics, which usually backs the Yoruba adage “Owe lesin oro, oro lesin owe, ti oro ba sonu, owe la fi in wa,” which basically translates to “proverbs gives meaning to words.” He is widely respected for his witty use of proverbs, and wise sayings.

“No Be Mistake,” remains a hot birthday tune and “Wedding Day,” rocks all Wedding parties. And, even the least hyped of all his songs has the ability to impart you with some form of knowledge. What makes you G.O.A.T?

In 2016, the least of everybody expected to stage a perfect comeback, is 9ice, after such a long time away from the top of the game. BUT, he did. First, pushing a single “Economy,” a song which is half encouragement and half criticism of government (remember Fela?). His album “ID Cabasa,” named after the Coded Tunes boss, instrumental in the production of 9ice’s break-out album, in 2008. “Living Things” was off the album, and the album was such a perfect pop album, from a veteran. Everything about the album were “oro agba” (words from the elders). From “those wey live for glass house no dey throw stones” to “Money nor dey fall from heaven, shey you know,” they were all wise words from an elder. He even had love songs on the album, showing his versatility. There was new Coublon, and there was old Puffy T. Nobody could have done it better.

So when 9ice announced a new album, my heart leaped for joy. Not only ’cause I’m getting a new 9ice material, but ’cause 9ice is now aware of his GOAT-ship. Baba is the Greatest Of All Time. And, he ain’t even 40, yet.

We hope this helps bring home the Grammy!
