The stalemate at the City Ground left Forest hovering just three points above the Premier League drop zone, prompting the club’s hierarchy to act swiftly. Dyche’s dismissal means Forest are now searching for their fourth manager of the season, a remarkable level of instability with crucial fixtures ahead.

In a brief statement posted on social media, the club confirmed the decision:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future.”

The draw against bottom-placed Wolves proved to be the tipping point. Despite dominating proceedings and registering 35 shots, Forest failed to score, and the home crowd made their frustration clear by booing the team off at full-time.

Dyche, 54, appeared to sense what was coming. Speaking after the match, he admitted he was realistic about the precarious nature of his position under owner Evangelos Marinakis, whose impatience has already reshaped the club’s season multiple times.

“The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt,” Dyche said. “If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. We’ve all seen it.

“If the owner wants to make a change, then that’s up to him, and that’s the way football is now, that’s just the reality of it.

“He’s been absolutely fair with me from the beginning to the end, and I’ve been fair with him and told him the truth every step of the way.”

Marinakis had already dismissed Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou earlier in the campaign. Nuno, who guided Forest to a Europa League place last season, reportedly departed after disagreements over transfer dealings. Postecoglou’s stint lasted just 39 days, while Dyche survived 114 days before becoming the latest casualty.

The timing adds further pressure, with Forest set to travel to Turkey for a Europa League clash against Fenerbahce on February 19 before hosting Liverpool three days later.

With relegation danger looming and European commitments still in play, Marinakis now faces another pivotal managerial appointment, one that could define Forest’s season.

Nottingham Forest have officially appointed Sean Dyche as their new head coach, the club announced on Tuesday, confirming the 52-year-old’s return to familiar ground after years away from his boyhood side.

Forest’s move for Dyche came swiftly in the wake of Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal, which followed a disappointing 3–0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge over the weekend.

The former Everton and Burnley boss, who began his football journey as a youth player at Forest, will make his managerial debut for the club on Thursday when they face FC Porto in the Europa League.

Dyche has signed a contract running until the summer of 2027, becoming Forest’s third manager of a turbulent season. Postecoglou had replaced Nuno Espirito Santo, who departed after clashing with owner Evangelos Marinakis and sporting director Edu Gaspar.

In a statement on their official website, Forest described Dyche as “a respected and experienced Premier League manager” who brings “the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement to guide the club through its next chapter.”

The statement added:

“Having managed more than 330 Premier League matches in his career to date, Dyche has built teams defined by defensive organisation, resilience, and strength from set pieces — qualities that align closely with the current squad’s attributes and the club’s footballing identity.”

“As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche also has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters. With his character, tactical acumen and man-management skills, his appointment represents the best opportunity for a successful and competitive season across both domestic and European competitions.”

Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the appointment of Sean Dyche as the Club’s new Head Coach, following a thorough recruitment process led by Global Head of Football, Edu Gaspar, and Global Technical Director, George Syrianos.

Postecoglou’s exit brings an abrupt end to a 39-day tenure, marking the shortest permanent managerial spell in Premier League history after he failed to win any of his eight matches in charge.

Before settling on Dyche, Marinakis reportedly considered several high-profile names, including Roberto Mancini and Marco Silva, but ultimately chose the Englishman for his experience and stability.

Dyche has been out of management since January after parting ways with Everton, where he spent two years. During his spell at Goodison Park, he notably kept the Toffees in the top flight amid points deductions for financial breaches.

Prior to that, Dyche’s nine-and-a-half-year stint at Burnley cemented his reputation as one of English football’s most resilient tacticians, guiding the club to several Premier League seasons and even European qualification.

Now back where it all began, Dyche’s challenge is clear — to steady a Forest side searching for identity and results in both the Premier League and Europe.

The club confirmed his dismissal less than 20 minutes after their 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, ending the Australian’s brief 39-day spell at the City Ground.

In an official statement, Forest said:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The club will make no further comment at this time.”

— Nottingham Forest (@NFFC) October 18, 2025

Postecoglou, 60, was appointed on September 9, signing a two-year contract following the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo. However, his tenure quickly unraveled, with Forest losing six and drawing two of their eight games under his watch.

During his short reign, Forest conceded 11 goals from set pieces—more than twice as many as any other Premier League team over the same period—underscoring their defensive frailties.

Below is a breakdown of Postecoglou’s results in charge of Nottingham Forest:

Arsenal 3–0 Nottingham Forest – Premier League

Swansea 3–2 Nottingham Forest – Carabao Cup

Burnley 1–1 Nottingham Forest – Premier League

Real Betis 2–2 Nottingham Forest – Europa League

Nottingham Forest 0–1 Sunderland – Premier League

Nottingham Forest 2–3 FC Midtjylland – Europa League

Newcastle 2–0 Nottingham Forest – Premier League

Nottingham Forest 0–3 Chelsea – Premier League

The sacking brings a swift end to what was expected to be a fresh chapter for Forest under Postecoglou, who was brought in to stabilize the team and instill an attacking identity. Instead, his tenure will be remembered as one of the shortest and most turbulent in recent Premier League history.

The club has yet to name an interim replacement, but sources suggest an announcement could follow soon as Forest look to recover from a difficult start to their campaign.

Ange Postecoglou says he is focused on writing a fresh chapter in Nottingham Forest’s history rather than trying to silence critics after being officially presented as the club’s new manager on Thursday.

“I don’t see it as a point to prove. You let your actions speak for themselves,” the 60-year-old told reporters at the City Ground, where he was unveiled as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement.

“You have to understand the responsibility you have. Football clubs exist to bring joy to supporters — they are the lifeblood of this game. That’s all I care about. I’ll win things here and people will still have doubts about me.”

Postecoglou arrives in Nottingham just two months after being dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur, despite guiding the London side to Europa League glory. Spurs’ 17th-place Premier League finish had already sealed his fate.

“It wasn’t great, but I knew it was coming long before the Europa League final,” he admitted. “Maybe these things happen for a reason, because now I have this opportunity.”

The call to take over Forest came unexpectedly. “I was on the school run when it came through. Once we got into discussions, it didn’t take much to realise it was a great opportunity,” he said.

Espirito Santo had led Forest to seventh in the league and a European return, but a breakdown in his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis paved the way for change.

“The opportunity presented itself because of the work I’ve done,” said Postecoglou, who previously ended Tottenham’s 15-year trophy drought and won two Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic.

Still, he acknowledged the challenge of convincing Forest’s loyal fanbase. “They’re not going to love me on the first day. I’ve got to earn their respect. But this is a unique club, and when you build momentum here, special things can happen.”

Known for his uncompromising attacking philosophy, the Australian-Greek coach insisted he would not abandon his style. “I want my teams to play exciting football, to score goals, and to win games. I make no apologies for that.”

Postecoglou’s debut in charge will be no easy task: Forest open their Premier League campaign with a daunting trip to Arsenal on Saturday. “It is what it is. Every Premier League fixture is tough. It’s a great game to start with,” he said.

The Australian manager has signed a two-year deal that will keep him at the City Ground until 2027. Forest acted swiftly to secure his services during the international break, ensuring stability ahead of the Premier League’s return.

A club statement released on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, read:

“Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the Club’s First Team Head Coach. Postecoglou has been in management for over 25 years, arriving on Trentside with experience of regularly competing and winning trophies at the highest level. After enjoying very successful seasons with Brisbane Roar and Yokohama F. Marinos, winning the League with both clubs, he was appointed manager of Celtic in June 2021.

A successful tenure in Glasgow saw Postecoglou win the domestic double in his first season in Scotland and the treble in his second year, which earned him a nomination for the FIFA World Coach of the Year in 2023. Moving to England to take over at Tottenham Hotspur, who finished fifth in his first season, Postecoglou guided Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years, winning the Europa League in 2024/25 and qualifying for the Champions League.”

Postecoglou replaces Nuno Espírito Santo, whose relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis broke down after a series of disagreements over the club’s recruitment strategy.

The Portuguese coach publicly voiced his frustrations last month, highlighting tensions with new Head of Global Football, Edu, particularly around transfer targets such as Adama Traoré.

Forest will now look to turn the page under Postecoglou, whose attacking philosophy and proven track record of success made him a top candidate. His first game in charge comes against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday, September 14, while a reunion with his former club Tottenham is set for December 13.

Nottingham Forest have parted ways with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, bringing an end to his nearly two-year spell at the City Ground. The Portuguese tactician becomes the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season.

Tensions between Nuno and club owner Evangelos Marinakis had been simmering for weeks, culminating in an irreparable breakdown in their relationship.

As a result, the 50-year-old will not be at the helm for Forest’s return to European competition, where they are set to face FC Porto and SC Braga.

Nuno, who had been under contract until 2028, departs just a week after Forest’s heavy 3-0 home defeat to West Ham.

The 2025 summer transfer market officially shut its doors on Monday, September 1, but not without delivering its share of drama.

The Premier League, in particular, witnessed several unexpected moves that left fans and pundits equally stunned.

As the 2025/26 season unfolds, clubs that were active in strengthening their squads over the summer are hoping their gambles pay off in the race for silverware and Champions League spots.

Transfers From the 2025 Summer Window That Shocked Fans

Here are five of the most surprising transfers of the summer.

Jadon Sancho – Manchester United ➝ Aston Villa

Perhaps the biggest curveball of the window was Jadon Sancho’s late switch to Aston Villa. For much of the summer, the England winger appeared destined to remain at Old Trafford, with links to Roma, Galatasaray, and others failing to materialize.

Then, on Deadline Day, Villa swooped in to secure his signature. The move ensures Sancho stays in the Premier League, giving him a fresh start and the chance to push for a spot in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Oleksandr Zinchenko – Arsenal ➝ Nottingham Forest (loan)

Few would have predicted Arsenal’s Zinchenko ending up at Nottingham Forest. With Riccardo Calafiori back from injury and firmly established in Mikel Arteta’s plans, Zinchenko found himself slipping down the pecking order.

In search of regular minutes, the Ukrainian full-back opted for a season-long loan to Nuno Espírito Santo’s Forest side, a move that surprised both fans and analysts given his importance to Arsenal in past campaigns.

Welcome to Nottingham Forest, Oleksandr Zinchenko! 🙌 pic.twitter.com/QFS00VoCMV

Ben Chilwell – Chelsea ➝ Strasbourg

Another eyebrow-raising deal came from Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea announced Ben Chilwell’s permanent departure to French outfit Strasbourg.

The left-back had endured a difficult spell on loan at Crystal Palace last season and struggled to attract suitors in England. His decision to take on a fresh challenge in Ligue 1 marks a turning point in his career, and few saw this move coming.

Christantus Uche – Getafe ➝ Crystal Palace

One of the most under-the-radar but shocking Deadline Day deals involved Nigerian forward Christantus Uche. Hardly linked with a move throughout the summer, Uche suddenly emerged as a new signing for Crystal Palace.

Speaking after sealing the switch from Getafe, Uche said:

“This moment is unbelievable. I’m very lucky to be here today and this club is a big opportunity for me.”

The surprise addition is expected to bolster Palace’s attacking depth heading into the new campaign.

Christantus Uche, welcome to Palace ❤️💙

Randal Kolo Muani – PSG ➝ Tottenham Hotspur (loan)

Tottenham pulled off one of the most sensational Deadline Day coups by landing Randal Kolo Muani on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French international was widely tipped to play a key role at PSG this season, but Spurs’ urgent need for firepower—after Heung-Min Son’s exit and James Maddison’s long-term injury—opened the door for this unlikely deal.

Handed the No. 39 shirt, Kolo Muani’s arrival alongside fellow PSG talent Xavi Simons added a dramatic twist to the final hours of the window and gave Spurs fans renewed hope.

We are delighted to announce the signing of Randal Kolo Muani on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain ✍️

These transfers prove once again that the summer window always has a few surprises in store, with clubs making last-minute moves that can reshape their season.

England’s European campaigners Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest all joined the competition at this stage after receiving automatic byes.

Defending champions Newcastle United, who ended a 56-year wait for silverware by defeating Liverpool in last season’s final, will lock horns with Bradford City. Meanwhile, Liverpool have been drawn against Southampton.

The third round is slated for September, with matches spread across two weeks. Clubs involved in the Champions League and Europa League will play their games during the week commencing September 22, while the rest will feature from September 15.

In a nod to history, all past winners will sport a special sleeve patch on their kits this season, displaying the number of times they have lifted the trophy. Liverpool remain the record holders, with nine Carabao Cup triumphs to date.

The EFL confirmed that teams playing in European competitions were deliberately kept apart at this stage of the competition.

Premier League side Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of French forward Arnaud Kalimuendo from Ligue 1 outfit Rennes on a five-year contract.

Although Forest did not disclose the financial details, reports in the British press indicate the deal is worth around £26 million ($35.1m).

Kalimuendo, 23, is a product of Paris Saint-Germain’s academy and spent two productive loan stints with Lens before moving permanently to Rennes in 2022. Over two seasons at the French club, he registered 40 goals in 112 appearances across all competitions. His spell at Lens yielded 21 goals in 65 games.

The striker enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign, scoring 18 times and providing four assists in 34 appearances. He was also part of the French squad that clinched silver at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Speaking after the move, Kalimuendo expressed his delight: “This is a proud moment for me, joining a team who had a strong season last year and a club with great history.
Forest have been one of the busiest clubs in this summer’s window, spending close to £147m on seven new players. Kalimuendo is the latest addition following the arrivals of James McAtee from Manchester City for £30m and Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town in a £37.5m switch.

The wait is almost over. After months of transfer rumours, preseason tours, and tactical fine-tuning, the Premier League is set to roar back into action this weekend.

Fans across the globe are bracing themselves for another nine months of football drama, as England’s top flight kicks off its 2025/26 campaign.

Premier League 2025/26: Everything to Know Before Kick-Off

Defending champions Liverpool will have the honour of opening the season on Friday night when they welcome Bournemouth to Anfield. But it’s Sunday’s clash between Manchester United and Arsenal that’s shaping up to be the headline fixture of the opening weekend—a meeting between two old rivals with renewed title ambitions.

Premier League teams flew thousands of miles over summer in anticipation of the upcoming season. After completing their tour by winning the Premier League Summer Series trophy, Manchester United brought their preparations to the United States. As part of their global expansion, Arsenal attracted sizable crowds in Asia, including stops in Singapore and Hong Kong.

As always, the new season offers contrasting objectives for different clubs. At the top, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and United will scrap for silverware, while others are bracing for a survival fight to ensure their names remain in England’s most prestigious league.

The start of a new campaign also means fresh kits for fans to admire—or debate. Liverpool’s striking new home strip has dominated the headlines, while Arsenal’s bold third kit design has been widely praised for its daring look.

The Premier League remains home to some of the best footballers on the planet—and some of the highest earners. With wealthy club owners, lucrative broadcast deals, and massive sponsorships, England’s top division continues to boast a financial muscle few leagues can match.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology remains a divisive talking point, but it isn’t going anywhere. The Premier League has confirmed several tweaks to improve efficiency and clarity, alongside other rule changes designed to make the game more fluid and fair.

For millions of fans, the start of the season also signals the return of Fantasy Premier League battles. Whether it’s office bragging rights or group-chat supremacy, the race to assemble the perfect squad begins now.
