The 2025 summer transfer window will go down in history as one of the most dramatic and expensive periods football has ever seen.

Clubs across Europe splashed unprecedented sums, with total spending reaching a staggering €10.23 billion, a new record.

2025 Summer Transfer Window: Record-Breaking Deals In Football

Unsurprisingly, the Premier League once again dominated the headlines, accounting for more than €3.5 billion of that total.

No club captured attention quite like Liverpool. In what was described as a full-scale squad rebuild, the Reds secured Alexander Isak from Newcastle for a British record of £125 million, surpassing the fee Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023.

The Merseyside giants also added German star Florian Wirtz, striker Hugo Ekitiké, and flying full-back Jeremie Frimpong, making them the undisputed biggest spenders of the window. Despite earning €220 million from player sales, their net spend of €262 million was the second-highest across Europe.

If Liverpool dominated the headlines, Arsenal topped the financial charts. The Gunners invested heavily in attacking reinforcements, bringing in Viktor Gyökeres and Eberechi Eze, among others, while spending a total of €293.5m. With only €10.3m recouped in sales, they closed the window with the highest net spend of all clubs at €283.2m.

Manchester United also strengthened their front line, completing deals for Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha. Chelsea, meanwhile, added João Pedro to their ranks but sanctioned a major outgoing as Nicolas Jackson joined Bayern Munich on a high-profile loan with an obligation to buy.

The Blues were once again Europe’s most successful sellers, generating €332m in player sales, over €100m more than any other club. Their standout departure was Noni Madueke, who sealed a €56m move to Arsenal.

The surprises weren’t limited to England. Liverpool captain Trent Alexander-Arnold left Anfield for Real Madrid, a move that stunned supporters and pundits alike. In Turkey, Victor Osimhen pulled off one of the most unexpected switches of the window, leaving Napoli for Galatasaray in a deal worth around €65m.

Meanwhile, newly promoted Sunderland made waves by spending €160m to bolster their squad. Their shopping list included striker Brian Brobbey and experienced midfielder Granit Xhaka, signaling serious intent to compete at the highest level.

The 2025 transfer market will be remembered not just for its eye-watering figures but for the boldness of the moves made. The three most expensive signings of the summer all belonged to Liverpool: Isak, Wirtz, and Ekitiké, underscoring the club’s ambition to remain at Europe’s summit.

Elsewhere, Arsenal’s financial gamble, Chelsea’s sales dominance, and the shock departures of household names like Alexander-Arnold and Osimhen highlighted the increasingly unpredictable nature of modern football.

As the dust settles, one thing is clear: the 2025/26 season is shaping up to be as dramatic on the pitch as it was off it.

Nicolas Jackson has finally sealed a loan switch from Chelsea to Bayern Munich, ending weeks of uncertainty around his future.

The move looked doubtful at one stage after Chelsea hesitated to sanction his exit following Liam Delap’s injury, but both clubs have now reached a fresh agreement that sees the striker head to Germany for the season.

Jackson departs Stamford Bridge having netted 30 times in 81 appearances for the Blues. At Bayern, he is expected to provide valuable depth alongside Harry Kane as the Bavarian giants look to defend their Bundesliga crown.

Speaking after the announcement, Jackson expressed his delight: “I’m really happy to now be part of this great club. Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world. Everyone knows the names of the legends who’ve played here and knows that this club stands for the greatest success. I’ve got big goals and dreams here and will give all to help Bayern win further titles.”

The Senegalese forward could make his Bayern debut after the international break, with a league clash against Hamburg scheduled for September 13.

The 24-year-old’s switch had collapsed over the weekend when Chelsea pulled the plug following Liam Delap’s hamstring injury against Fulham. However, the Blues moved swiftly to address the situation by recalling Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland, clearing the path for Jackson’s departure.

Unlike the initial proposal, which included an optional buy clause, the new deal features a mandatory purchase obligation. Bayern will pay a €16.5 million loan fee upfront, with the move set to become permanent next summer for around €65m (£56.2m). In total, Chelsea stand to receive up to €80m (£70m) for the Senegal international.

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has provided an update on the club’s injury situation ahead of their highly anticipated London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Maresca confirmed that key attacking players Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, and Noni Madueke are all fit and available for selection.

“Cole Palmer is back, he is okay. Noni Madueke is better. Nico Jackson is better. They are all good.”

However, the Italian manager expressed concerns over Romeo Lavia, who has faced ongoing injury struggles since his arrival at Chelsea.

“He was doing better in terms of progress, but unfortunately, one or two days ago, he had a small problem, so we will see in the next hours.”

Chelsea have endured a difficult run of form since the start of 2024, raising concerns among the club’s supporters. Despite their struggles, Maresca insists that everyone at the club is giving their best this season.

With key players returning, Chelsea fans will hope for a strong performance and maximum points against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has been named Senegal’s Best Player for 2024, celebrating his stellar performance since joining the club at the start of the 2024/25 season.

Jackson, who made the move to Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 for a reported £31 million, has adapted remarkably to the Premier League. Known for his speed, power, and clinical finishing, the 22-year-old has impressed both fans and critics.

In the current season, Jackson has scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in just 8 appearances, earning him 203 votes to clinch the award, outpacing Kalidou Koulibaly and Chérif Ndiaye.

His recent success underscores his reputation as a rising Senegalese talent on the international stage.

Since joining Chelsea, Jackson has solidified his role as a key player, with his goal tally this season coming in just behind teammate Cole Palmer, who leads with 6 goals.

Last season, Jackson enjoyed a remarkable run as well, with 17 goals and 6 assists in 44 matches. This latest accolade is a testament to his rapid rise and growing influence in European football.

The English Football Association (FA) has released a statement regarding an incident involving Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Nottingham Forest’s Morato, confirming that Jackson will not face any disciplinary action for slapping Morato during their recent match.

The incident, which was reviewed by the video assistant referee (VAR) during the game, was deemed not to warrant further action, as officials did not find Jackson’s actions in violation of the rules.

The confrontation stemmed from a challenge by Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams on Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, which sent Cucurella off the pitch and into the technical area, colliding with his coach, Enzo Maresca.

This sparked a scuffle involving several players, some of whom left the bench to join the fray, leading to pushing and shoving before referee Chris Kavanagh restored order. The match saw a total of 11 yellow cards issued for various incidents throughout the game.

The FA said in a statement,

“It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 88th minute. Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have until Thursday, October 10, 2024, to provide their responses.”

A total of six players were booked for the Blues throughout the match, meaning they are the subject of an automatic £50,000 fine after accumulating six or more bookings for the second time this season.

Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson has opened up about his childhood admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, shedding light on the inspiration behind his ‘Siuuu’ celebration during the dazzling 4-1 victory over Tottenham.

In North London, Jackson’s third goal was punctuated by the iconic ‘Siu’ celebration, a homage to the Portuguese talisman and Jackson’s childhood idol. The Senegalese player disclosed his profound admiration for Ronaldo, dating back to his early years, recounting how he crafted his own CR7 shirt with a marker as a child. This gesture was a heartfelt acknowledgment of the impact Ronaldo had on Jackson’s footballing journey.

Speaking to The Telegraph, he said, “When I was growing up, I loved Cristiano Ronaldo. I had his name on a shirt that I always wore. Not an actual shirt because they are expensive, so you don’t buy them. But I had a shirt that I put 7, Ronaldo on with a pen. I did it myself when I was a kid.

“Of course, I would pretend to be him, but it was difficult to watch his games because you needed to pay. We would go to my friend’s house, everybody. We would watch in a large group, never just with one person in the house. All my friends, we’d all go to one house to watch Real Madrid.”

Jackson scored his first career hat-trick against Ange Postecoglou’s players, and he declared that if he could replicate his exploits, he would once more perform the “Siu.”

“I always did his celebration, even when I was at Villarreal and I scored two goals. So when I got a hat-trick, I had to do it. Now I’ll only do it for hat-tricks, not every goal,” he said.

“It was my first career hat-trick. It was very special. The ball is in my lounge so everyone can see it. I hope there will be many more, but the first one is always very important and I will try to keep it very safe.”

Ronaldo’s Siu celebration has now become a global phenomenon which cuts across sporting disciplines. Jackson’s story highlights the profound impact football idols can have on young players. Nonetheless, it feels unreal that now Chelsea fans would be hoping to see more of the ‘Siu’ celebration in the future, albeit from Jackson.

Mauricio Pochettino shrugged off Chelsea’s struggles against a nine-man Tottenham team and expressed his relief for hat-trick hero Nicolas Jackson.

The two London rivals were deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime, with a Cole Palmer penalty canceling out Dejan Kulusevski’s deflected opener. Jackson, the former Villarreal striker, had been enduring a frustrating night, but he came alive with 15 minutes remaining, putting Chelsea in the lead. Jackson went on to score two more goals in stoppage time, securing a morale-boosting 4-1 away win for Chelsea.

Despite Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie receiving red cards, Ange Postecoglou’s team put up a valiant fight and had opportunities, even with nine players, to salvage something from the match. However, Pochettino believed that Chelsea maintained control throughout the game and forced Tottenham to make mistakes.

When asked if the Blues should have put the game to bed sooner, the Argentine manager told reporters: “I think you are wrong. If you watch Tottenham versus Liverpool, they (Spurs) scored in the last minute. It’s never easy [against a team with] two players sent off. It’s difficult now to talk about tactics but most important is the 4-1 win and three points. I think we deserved to win. We forced them to make too many mistakes.

Tottenham was better in the first 15 minutes and then I think we bossed the game, our performance was good and forced them into making mistakes. If you look at everything you could see during the game, I think it was fair. It could be an important three points for us, to help us now start to push up the table.”

After Jackson joined the Blues in the summer for €35 million (£30 million/$38 million), he has battled with form. Pochettino is hoping that Jackson’s performance will relieve some of the strain on the striker. Before the late surge, the striker had only scored twice in his first nine Premier League games and had even missed a couple of golden opportunities against Tottenham.

“I am happy for him because we know that when strikers don’t score, they suffer,” the manager said. “So that is for people to think. He is really young, arrived to the club this summer, and it’s not easy to play for Chelsea. It’s the history, about winning, lifting trophies. That’s why as a coaching staff we need to provide the tools and be calm with the way we assess things. The confidence is there and I am so happy for him because he deserves the boost.”

Jackson got back on track just in time to score again, and he will look to do so when Chelsea play Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

After witnessing his Chelsea teammate Nicolas Jackson score his first hat-trick for the club in their 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, Cole Palmer has encouraged the striker to “put in more effort during training.”

In the match, 22-year-old forward Jackson made headlines by leading Chelsea to a resounding win, although Spurs were reduced to nine men after the dismissals of Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Spurs defended valiantly until Jackson broke the deadlock in the 75th minute.

Jackson, who has faced criticism since his €35 million (£30m/$38m) transfer from Villarreal in the summer, added two more goals in stoppage time to secure his hat-trick and all three points for Chelsea. However, Palmer, who converted a penalty to level the score after Dejan Kulusevski’s opener, suggested that Jackson should put in more effort to become a more consistent scorer.

“It’s been a difficult start for him, no hiding it, but he was brilliant tonight,” he said to Sky Sports in a post-match interview alongside Jackson. “He just needs to keep his head down and work harder in training and he will get many more hat-tricks.”

The interviewer double-checked with Palmer and asked: “You say work harder?”

The player replied, “Of course. You can always work harder.”

Despite acknowledging that he needs to get more yardage at Cobham—he too lost a few opportunities against Tottenham—Jackson did not seem to take offense at the remark.

“Always need to improve, always need to work harder. We continue working,” he said. “Now this is past, so we forget about it and move forward. I am very happy and it has been a difficult time for everybody in the team. We are coming back really slowly and happy to have scored three goals. It’s my first hat-trick, so I am happy to have done it with the biggest club in England and everywhere. We were dreaming about winning the big games and the confidence within the team is coming really slowly.”

Chelsea’s next Premier League game will be against league leaders Manchester City on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of returning to the top of the Premier League table were dashed in extraordinary fashion as they went down 4-1 at home to Chelsea in a chaotic London derby.

It was a triumphant return for Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, who faced his former club. The match featured numerous dramatic moments, including a hat trick by Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and three red cards.

Tottenham took an early lead with a goal from Dejan Kulusevski, but they had a second goal disallowed for offside shortly after. The game took a turn when Cristian Romero was sent off for a dangerous tackle, resulting in a penalty for Chelsea, which was converted by Cole Palmer. Spurs also lost two players to injury, and Destiny Udogie received a second yellow card, leaving the team with nine men.

Chelsea eventually capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Jackson scoring to put them ahead. Tottenham had an equalizing goal ruled out for offside, and Jackson added two more goals in stoppage time, securing a 4-1 victory for Chelsea.

The result left Tottenham in second place in the Premier League with 26 points, one behind leaders Manchester City. Chelsea climbed to 10th place with 15 points.

Mauricio Pochettino believes Chelsea’s win over Brighton on Wednesday will be a watershed moment in the club’s season following a shaky start.

High-flying Nicolas Jackson scored the game-winning goal at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to overcome Brighton in the Carabao Cup, giving Chelsea only their second victory of the year. The Argentine manager discussed the need for his team to fight after the game in order to salvage the season.

“It’s really important for us to get the victory and that we’re through to the next round after a few games where we didn’t score or win,” he told Sky Sports.

Pochettino was then asked if the result was a turning point for his side: “It should be, it must be. It’s about time. Today there were many positive things. Today we saw the players fighting to give their best. It’s about time.”

The Chelsea boss also hailed Jackson after his goal: “It’s important for offensive players to find the net. He really was really good.”

The Blues’ first goal since their 2-1 triumph against AFC Wimbledon on August 30 in the preliminary round of the competition came from Jackson in the 50th minute of play. Since then, they have gone three straight Premier League games without scoring.

On Monday, October 2, Pochettino’s Chelsea will play their next match against Fulham in an effort to earn their first Premier League victory since defeating Luton in August.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that the club is still actively searching for a new striker before the transfer window closes. The Blues have faced challenges in the striker position due to injuries and lack of goals from their current options.

Mauricio Pochettino reveals Chelsea stance on signing new striker

Christopher Nkunku, a significant forward addition during the summer transfer window, suffered a knee injury during the summer, leaving Chelsea with limited options up front. Armando Broja, an academy graduate, is still recovering from a torn ACL, and Nicolas Jackson, another summer arrival, has yet to score in the Premier League.

In the 3-1 loss to West Ham United, Chelsea’s difficulties in scoring goals were evident, prompting Pochettino to acknowledge the need for another striker. He mentioned that the club is actively working on finding the right profile but acknowledged that it’s a challenging task.

Pochettino emphasized that it’s not just the strikers who need to be clinical in front of goal but also the entire team. He mentioned that if they can’t find the right striker, they will have to wait for Nkunku and Broja to recover, with the support of Mason Burstow.

There is also mention of the possibility of Romelu Lukaku making a surprise comeback, but Pochettino’s approval would be required for that to happen. Lukaku was left out of preseason due to his pursuit of a move away from the club, but Pochettino is reportedly not interested in reintegrating him at the moment.
