Veteran Nigerian rapper Naetochukwu Chikwe, popularly known as Naeto C, has opened up on why he stepped away from the music industry at the peak of his career, offering clarity on a decision that has long intrigued fans.

Naeto C Shares Truth About His Exit from Music

In a candid podcast interview, the Ten Over Ten hitmaker explained that his withdrawal from the spotlight was a deliberate and deeply personal choice, driven by his desire to prioritise family and build the kind of future he envisioned for himself.

Naeto C revealed that his outlook began to change after key milestones in his personal life. Following his marriage in 2012 and the birth of his first child in 2013, he started reassessing how the demanding nature of a full-time music career aligned with his goals as a husband and father.

“I think I wanted something different when I thought about my future and the kind of life I wanted,” he said. “I don’t really think I would get the kind of life I wanted if I continued to focus on music.”

Reflecting on his early days in the industry, Naeto C explained that his journey into music was never driven by fame or money. Instead, it was rooted in a genuine love for hip-hop, which naturally evolved into a successful career that helped shape Nigerian rap in the mid-2000s.

Although he has remained largely absent from mainstream music for years, the rapper disclosed that he had plans to return with new material in 2025, but personal challenges delayed the comeback.

Despite his long hiatus, Naeto C’s legacy continues to resonate strongly within the industry. Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures of his era, his contribution to Nigerian hip-hop remains significant, with fans still hopeful for the return of one of rap’s most respected “Super C” icons.

The event, fittingly titled RETROSPECTIVE, is set for Thursday, December 26, 2025, at Hard Rock Cafe, Oniru, Lagos. It’s a venue and date carved straight into the heart of Detty December, making the perfect backdrop for a homecoming of this scale.

Known to many as “Super C” or “The Blueprint,” Naeto C is one of the artists who shaped the early blueprint of Nigerian hip-hop and helped bridge its transition into the Afrobeats era.

With timeless hits like Kini Big Deal, Ten Over Ten, and 5 and 6, he became the soundtrack for a generation. So it’s no surprise that news of his return has fans buzzing, nostalgic, and ready to rap every lyric word for word.

RETROSPECTIVE is expected to be more than just a concert—it’s a journey through his legacy. A curated walk through the moments, records, and milestones that cemented Naeto C as a cultural force.

For an artist who has spent recent years focusing on business and family, this upcoming performance feels like a rare and treasured moment.

Backed by Mainland BlockParty and heavyweight sponsors like Bet9ja, Pepsi, and The Glenlivet, the show is already shaping up to be one of December’s biggest draws.

With demand rising fast, fans are being urged to grab their tickets early because when Naeto C finally returns to a Lagos stage, seats are guaranteed to fill up quickly.

For the culture, for the nostalgia, and for the music—this is one night no true fan will want to miss.

In a recent episode of Pulse Fun Fact, the multi-award-winning artist was asked to choose his favorite genre among hip-hop, Afrobeats, and Amapiano.

Without hesitation, MI Abaga selected hip-hop as his favorite genre, placing Afrobeats in second place.

According to MI, hip-hop is the genre that has served as the foundation for many other musical styles. He referred to hip-hop as the deepest art form and described it as the love of his life, highlighting its significance in shaping his musical identity.

Hip-hop holds a significant place in the rich tapestry of Nigerian music history, boasting a cadre of top-class rappers who have left an indelible mark on the industry. Icons such as Eedris Abdulkareem, Ruggedman, Mode 9, M.I, Ice Prince, Naeto C, Dagrin, and Olamide have played pivotal roles in popularizing hip-hop within Nigeria.

In the realm of Afrobeats, hip-hop stands as one of the foundational genres, influencing the early sounds of groups like The Remedies, Trybesmen, and Plantashun Boiz. These pioneering acts drew inspiration from hip-hop elements, infusing them into their music and contributing to the development of Afrobeats as we know it today.

Furthermore, rap music has transcended geographical boundaries, becoming domesticated in various parts of the world. Its influence extends far beyond traditional hip-hop realms, feeding into and shaping a multitude of genres that borrow from its rhythmic and lyrical elements. This cross-pollination has resulted in the evolution of diverse musical styles, showcasing the universal appeal and enduring impact of hip-hop culture worldwide.

This week has witnessed a flurry of revelations and critiques from both veteran and emerging artists in the Nigerian music scene. In a frank discussion during a live session hosted by renowned media personality Daddy Freeze, Nigerian actor and rapper Ikechukwu Onunakyu, also known as Ikechukwu Killz, disclosed that he did not receive any financial compensation from his debut album.

Reflecting on his early career, Ikechukwu recounted, “It was around 2010. Mo’Hits supported me with 1 million naira for my father’s burial. They helped me during my time at Storm Records. While I did earn some income from performances, such as my first album, to this day, I have not received any payment from it. T-Joe handled the promotion for my first album and invested in it twice. Initially, most of my performances were promotional, leading to more fame than financial gain.”

During a candid conversation on a live session hosted by popular media personality Daddy Freeze, Ikechukwu disclosed a noticeable change in their bond, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding their apparent estrangement.

For years, Naeto C and Ikechukwu enjoyed a fruitful collaboration, lauded for their unique sound and creative synergy. Their joint projects, such as Elevator Pitch and Wind of Change, showcased their chemistry and earned them critical acclaim within Nigeria’s vibrant hip-hop scene.

The release of Davido’s fourth album, Timeless and the acceptance it has gotten has us reflecting on the many Significant events that have shaped Davido’s career.

Unquestionably, Davido has established himself as one of the most important musical figures of his generation. The longevity of his success—more than 10 years—is a testament to both the power of his music and his steadiness.

While his career has suffered some scandals and the loss of loved ones, Davido has managed to weather the storm and held on to the principles that make him who is.

Recently, Davido is a trending topic thanks to his return and the release of his fourth album, “Timeless”. The 17-tracks album has been receiving favourable reviews since it dropped.

To celebrate another landmark moment in OBO’s life Mp3bullet.ng compiled 7 Significant events that have shaped Davido’s career.

Dami Duro

Davido- Dami Duro

It only makes sense to begin this list with the event that best represents Davido’s entry into the Nigerian music scene: the release of his smash hit, Dami Duro. It was released as the second single from his debut album, Omo Baba Olowo.

At the time, Davido was hardly a household name. But, it was his cheerful singing and vivacious excitement that drew people’s attention and effectively cemented him as a rising star. The song was released in October 2011, and Clarence Peters’ video was released a few months later.

Davido had previously released a number of songs before Dami Duro.

His debut single, Back When, which featured Naeto C, received a good amount of radio play and national recognition. Yet his second song’s popularity was what helped him break into the industry.

Some Nigerian celebrities, including Wizkid, who was another up-and-coming talent at that time, also made appearances in the video. It enhanced the overall impact of the song and the accompanying visuals and undoubtedly gave him the boost he required to launch a successful career.

His Deal with Sony Music

Davido signed a contract with Sony Music Entertainment’s African division in 2016. The label claimed that Davido was the ideal candidate to assist them in establishing their presence in Africa due to his influence, constantly expanding fan base, and his extensive collection of hit songs with high development potential.

This entailed improved distribution, a larger audience, and Davido’s exposure to a foreign music scene that he would follow for the remainder of his career. The agreement required Davido to take a stand for his unique afrobeat style in the face of a rising trend among international musicians to change their sound to appeal to a western audience.

The Establishment of DMW

Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), the proverbial gift that keeps on giving, is one of the most significant markings on his career.

The label was home to artists like Mayorkun, Dremo, and Peruzzi and now it has expanded by including several others.

In addition to creating a group that has had a significant impact on Nigerian music and popular culture, the record company evolved into a hit-making business that has expanded quickly over time.

2017

Davido at the 2017 MOBO Awards

His status as one of the most recognisable performers in Nigerian history was cemented in 2017—possibly one of the most significant years in terms of music in the country. IF, Fall, Like Dat, and FIA were just a few of his outstanding singles released that year. It was expected that he would receive a MOBO award among other honours given to him that year given the strength of his résumé.

But, it was not all joy and enjoyable music. That same year, he was significantly embroiled in the drama surrounding the death of an acquaintance, Tagbo. The topic was then taken up by disgruntled members of the public, the police, and actress Caroline Danjuma. It hung over Davido like a heavy cloud.

Wizkid and Davido at his 2017 concert

However, he overcame the situation, which led to the release of FIA, a slow-moving but resolute song in which he conveyed his pain. That became another major smash for him, demonstrating his claim to having the Midas touch.

Finally, Davido staged his annual end-of-year event, which featured performances from a number of well-known artists. Although being a spectacle in and of itself, the concert shifted when he introduced Wizkid, the first of two on-stage introductions between the two artists.

Fem and EndSars

When Davido released FEM, the opening and lead single off his A Better Time album, he probably had no idea the environment in which the song would take on a life of its own.

Nigeria’s young collectively voiced their complaints in the latter half of 2020, sparking a national campaign that became known as the #ENDSARS movement.

Davido aggressively campaigned against police violence in addition to his song’s contribution to the movement’s youthful inspiration and essential togetherness. He even joined the marching throng in person to secure the release of some unarmed protestors.

He then got down with senior police officers to talk about the demands of the movement and how to respond to them.

Coming to America

Coming 2 America, a much-awaited follow-up to 1988 original, starred Davido as himself in 2021. This was a particularly noteworthy accomplishment given the new audience it introduced him to and the film’s current relevance.

First off, the cast of the movie was mostly made up of well-known musicians and actors. Second, it highlighted his standing as a leading advocate for African music.

Secondly, seeing Davido perform Assurance made Nigerians proud more than they could expect.

The release of Timeless

When the death of Ifeanyi hit the airwaves, the country was thrown into mourning and this left many anxious about the singer’s mental health.

Davido took a break from music to mourn in private until recent times when he returned to social media and while the singer is still reluctant to open up about the incident, he didn’t return empty-handed.

He sent the whole nation talking after announcing his fourth album, “Timeless” and even hackers leaking the project before its scheduled release didn’t damper anticipation from fans.

Mp3bullet.ng compiles a list of Nigerian artists you might not know have politicians as parents.

Many people have a strong dislike for politicians while also having a strong love for celebrities.

In fact, simply by affiliation with the parent, the label of being a politician’s child can sometimes come with a lot of acquired hatred.

However, there are instances when a celebrity turns out to be the offspring of a politician, and frequently, very few people are even aware of this.

Some Nigerian artists distinguish themselves not just by their vocals or name but sometimes by their signature looks.

A signature look has the power to make a powerful first impression on your audience and distinguish you from other artists.

While most of our celebs like to switch up their looks on a regular basis, the remainder commits to one appearance and stick with it.

Those that discover their ideal signature look master it to a tee, ensuring that their looks are always on-brand.

It could either be a fashion accessory or hairstyle, what matters is that fans can easily distinguish it from others and it is sometimes a trend.

Mp3bullet.ng compile a list to pay homage to a few of our favourites from the past and present.

Here are some of our favourites:

Lagbaja- Native mask and ankara

lagbaja

Lagbaja was one unusual fellow who had people trying to figure out his persona.

He kept music lovers on their toes and eager to see the mastermind behind the mask thanks to his fascinating music and different interesting masquerade looks.

Lagbaja serenaded us with tunes like Koko below, Never far away, Gra gra, Suuru Lere, and Nothing for you while wearing an Ankara frilled-ski mask, native two-piece, and his saxophone. Years later, his unusual characteristic appearance still makes him stand out.

Naeto C- Traditional hat

Naeto C

Naeto C made an immediate impact with Kini Big Deal, standing out for a variety of reasons.

As he frequently reminded us, he was the only MC with an MSC, delivering many hits like 10 over 10 and iconic phrases like “Yes Boss” that are still engrained in our mainstream culture.

Aside from his great music, he was a fashion trailblazer with his undeniably stylish appearance. We saw him in a trilby (a narrow-brimmed hat), fila (a traditional Yoruba cap), but it was his re-invention of the hula (a traditional Hausa cap) that became one of his defining looks.

Before Naeto C made the cap his signature look, hulas only went with traditional garb for men but the rapper rebranded the hat and gave it a contemporary feel that went with everything from tees and jeans to gowns.

Naeto C’s style included sunglasses, tuxedos or business suits, and recognizable T-shirts imprinted with slang from his songs. Everyone attempting to be as cool as him immediately absorbed his general laid-back swag.

Don Jazzy- Walking Stick

Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy, who produced the majority of Mohits and Mavin’s early songs, made boss-like cameo appearances in their videos with his ornate walking stick.

The walking stick, which he didn’t simply use for video shoots, gradually became his hallmark look, following him almost everywhere. The walking stick was a perfect match with his persona as “Don.”

Over the years, Don jazzy ditched his walking sticks to rebrand and he is now focused on managing young Mavin signees.

Falz- Empty Glasses Frames

Falz

Falz first wore standard spectacles before switching to lensless glasses, which sparked a fashion trend in which many young Nigerians wore glasses with no lenses. Even as his sonically evolved, he has remained consistent with the lensless glasses.

Celebrating the Classic Nigerian songs turning 15 years in 2022.

2007 was a pivotal time in the Nigerian Music industry. Its era saw artists like Asa, Timaya, 9ice drop their debut albums to critical and commercial acclaim.

In Nigeria, Mo Hits, the largest label at the time, released a first-of-its-kind label compilation album.

The project produced singles like “Booty call,” “Move your body,” and “Close to you,” with Don Jazzy, the country’s most prolific producer at the time, handling the majority of the production.

Much has changed in the industry in the 15 years since 2007. Nigerian music has progressed in leaps and bounds to the point where it can now be classified as mainstream music on a global scale.

While this is stunning, it would be negligent of anyone to overlook the amount of effort that went into getting the scene to where it is now.

The early and mid-2000s labour put in by artists, labels, and other business stakeholders is unquestionably what the scene is benefiting from now.

Here are some of the evergreen songs that would clock 15 years in 2022.

Kini Big Deal- Naeto C ft. Ikechukwu

Naeto C- Kini Big Deal

Naeto C had been around for a long before the release of “Kini Big Deal.”

This, however, was the song that revolutionized his life and the course of Nigerian commercial rap music.

Prior to this, rappers of the time were more concerned with the technical aspects of rapping, hence the commercial worth of their music was poor. Naeto proved that you can be a great rapper and write a terrific rap-pop song at the same time.

Yahozee was the description of an anthem; once this song came on, everyone and their mother had to sing along. It was also Olu Maintain’s first real solo triumph after leaving the group, “Maintain.”

In 2007, Timaya, also known as ‘Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa,’ had the entire globe at his feet. Timaya scored gold again in 2007 with this self-titled track produced by K Solo for his iconic debut album, True Story, after releasing the similarly popular “Dem mama” in 2005.

In the early 2000s, TY Bello was a member of the gospel group KUSH. The band had a lot of success but eventually split up, as do most bands.

After a couple of years of silence following the band’s breakup, TY resurfaced in 2007 with the mega single “Greenland,” a hopeful song about Nigeria’s prospects.

‘Greenland‘ was a smash hit across the country, especially with schoolchildren, as it was frequently utilized in dance routines and choreographies in schools and churches.

In 2007, Peter and Paul released their third album, Game Over. They were undoubtedly the most popular artists in the country at the time, along with 2face and D’banj.

Everything they touched turned to gold. “Do Me” was the most successful single from an album where every single was considered a hit. The video which was shot in South Africa was a significant step up in the quality of Nigerian music videos.

She released her seminal self-titled debut album with production help from the renowned Cobhams Asoquo. The album’s lead single was “Fire on the Mountain.”
