Mason Greenwood is no longer a Manchester United player after completing a permanent transfer to Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille. The transfer, valued at around £25 million including add-ons, also includes a sell-on clause that could see Manchester United receive up to 50% of any future transfer fee.

Greenwood, 22, will wear the number 10 shirt for Marseille in the upcoming season. A statement from Manchester United read: “Mason Greenwood has left Manchester United and joined French club Olympique de Marseille on a permanent transfer. The 22-year-old English forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe in Spain, made 129 appearances and scored 35 goals for United since making his debut in 2019. The transfer follows the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Marseille to Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah, after a prolific season with 30 goals in all competitions.

Mason Greenwood is on the verge of joining Marseille as the Manchester United outcast heads to France for a medical.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, an agreement has been reached for Greenwood to join the Ligue 1 side on a permanent deal. Marseille has scheduled a medical for the 22-year-old, who is then expected to sign a five-year contract. Manchester United will receive €30 million (£25 million/$32.7 million) for the young forward.

Greenwood’s departure will end his tenure at Old Trafford and give him a fresh start in France. However, there has been some opposition to the transfer. Marseille’s mayor has called Greenwood a “disgrace” and urged the club not to finalize the move.

After departing the team for Marseille, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has asserted that he was Chelsea’s fastest player the previous season.

The Gabonese striker had a “nightmarish” stint at Stamford Bridge after he joined from Barcelona in the previous summer, registering just three goals and one assist in 21 appearances for Chelsea. Aubameyang ultimately left and moved to Marseille on a free transfer where he signed a three-year deal.

The former Arsenal striker now claims that he set the fastest time during Chelsea training last year because, despite turning 34 in June, he still feels more than capable of competing at the highest level.

“I feel very good. Little anecdote, I held the record for speed at Chelsea last season in training. 36 km/h. So at that level, I think I’m alright,” he told reporters.

Aubameyang will be hoping to revive his career after securing a move to Ligue 1. He has prior experience playing in the French domestic competition as he previously featured for Saint-Etienne, Dijon, Lille, and Monaco, scoring 41 times in 120 appearances.

After being destroyed 4-1 at home by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage, Sevilla fired Lopetegui on Wednesday.

Sampaoli will be working with the record-setting six-time Europa League champions, who have had a difficult start to the season with just one victory across all competitions.

After guiding Marseille to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 and Champions League qualification last season, Sampaoli left the club in July because he was dissatisfied with the club’s transfer activity.

Sampaoli, who led Chile to their first Copa America title in 2015, had a turbulent first stint at Seville in 2016-17.

With a club record 42 points in the first half of the season, Sevilla had a fantastic start and eventually finished fourth.

They reached the Champions League last 16 where they were eliminated by Leicester City.

Then it was all about the clubs negotiating a deal, and fortunately, everything went well. Antonio Conte called me during the negotiations and expressed how much he’d like to have me on board – that was vital for my decision.”
