The ceremony, hosted by rap legend LL COOL J, will be broadcast on CBS, simulcast on MTV, and streamed on Paramount+ in the U.S. For Nigerian and African fans, the show kicks off at 2 AM WAT.

Before the main event, viewers can tune in to the one-hour pre-show at 1 AM WAT, hosted by Nessa and Kevan Kenney.

The prestigious video award show took place in the early hours of Monday in New Jersey, where excellence was celebrated.

The development comes despite the fact that Fela Kuti placed second in the fan vote category which creates a single official ballot.

The inductees chosen are Jay Z, Foo Fighters, Carole King, Todd Rundgren, The Go-Go’s and Tina Turner. This marks heartbreak for Nigerians and Africans, whose massive voting got Fela into second behind Tina Turner on the fans ballot.

Others inductees in the special categories include Clarence Ahmet (Ahmet Ertegum Awardee), Karftwerk, Charley Patton, Gil Scot-Herron (Early Influence), LL Cool J, Billy Preston, and Randy Rhoads (Musical Excellence).

On February 10, 2021, it was announced that the Nigerian legend would compete alongside 15 other music legends including;

The induction ceremony is billed for October 30 in Cleveland, Ohio.

In a statement on its website, the organisers explained that “the top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a ‘fans’ ballot’ that will be tallied along with the other ballots to select the 2021 Inductees.”

“Nominee ballots are sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry. Factors such as an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration,” it added.

This means that making the top five in the fan vote category does not automatically qualify a nominee for induction.

For instance, Fela, Turner, The Go-Go’s, Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden made the top five of the fan vote category.

But only the three of them — Turner, The Go-Go’s and Foo Fighters — made the inductees’ list alongside some of those — like Jay-Z — who missed out on the top five in the fan vote category.

The development has continued to generate controversies on Twitter, with many Nigerians expressing different views on the selection process.

The nominees of the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced on the 10th of February and include Fela Kuti, Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, Jay-Z, Chaka Khan, Carole King, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner, and Dionne Warwick.

Nominees can also be voted for on their website from now till the 30th of April to contribute to the induction process, it would however not guarantee entry.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (RRHOF) is a museum and hall of fame located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, United States.

It documents the history of rock music and the artists, producers, engineers, and other notable figures who have influenced its development. An act is eligible 25 years after their first commercial recording is released and this is Fela’s first nomination into the hall.

Snoop Dogg was in a conversation with the crew of the Breakfast Club and spoke on why he doesn’t rate Eminem as a top 10 rapper.

Hip-hop is a competitive genre as artists are constantly fighting to be on top. Eminem have been referred to as one of the best rappers in the genre but Snoop Dogg thinks otherwise.

“Eminem, the great white hope. White rappers had zero respect in rap,” said Snoop Dogg over a video call with Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and Angela Yee.

He says that while Eminem has been put in a position where he can be considered one of the Top 10 rappers ever, he personally doesn’t believe the “Not Afraid” hitmaker is worthy of the spot.

“The game feels like he’s a top ten lyricist but that’s just because he’s with Dr. Dre and Dr. Dre helped him find the best Eminem that he could find,” said Snoop, diving a little deeper.

Charlamagne Tha God agreed that he also doesn’t place Eminem in his personal Top 10 list but asks why Snoop thinks so. Snoop then goes on to name some rappers that would go above him.

“There’s just some n***as in the 80s that he can’t fuck with,” concluded Snoop. “Like Rakim, like Big Daddy Kane, like KRS-One, like LL Cool J… Shall I go on? Like Ice Cube. You understand me? I don’t got no time to play with it, it is what it is. Cuz did that. He did that to the fullest. That’s one of my teammates, one of my brothers. He did that. But when you’re talking about this hip-hop that I can’t live without…”

While Snoop Dogg wasn’t being disrespectful and is entitled to his opinion, fans think otherwise.
