Music last year (2020) was non-stop, hit songs were popping left, right and center, and here are the top 10 Nigerian music producers in 2021.

However, the music industry enjoyed a boom of time and Nigerian artists and Music Producers deserve heavy praise.

Late year, we had the best of Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Adekunle Gold, Patoranking, and Fireboy to mention a few.

Top 10 Nigerian music producers in 2021

Sarz

Osabuohien Osaretin, better known by his stage name Sarz, is a Nigerian record producer and musician.

Born in Benin City, Edo State, he is popularly known for the tag Sarz On The Beat/”Really”, at the beginning or end of all his music productions.

His first full credit production work was for Lord of Ajasa’s “See Drama” in 2007.

He has produced tracks for Wizkid, Naeto C, Banky W, Skales, Shank, Reminisce, Goldie Harvey, eLDee, Wande Coal, YQ, and Niniola.

Legendary Beatz

Legendury Beatz is a Nigerian record producing and songwriting duo, composed of siblings Uzezi Oniko and Okiemute Oniko.

Their production style is deeply rooted in afrobeat as well as in several other genres, including hip hop, reggae fusion, moombahton, and electro house.

They have produced many global hits including Wizkid essence featuring Tems

P2J

Pro2Jay, also known as P2J, is a Nigerian, London-based producer who has been making afro-pop, afro-house, afro-rap, and afro-jazz since the beginning of his career.

After shooting his shot and traveling to the United States with his manager seven years ago, he experienced an influx of artists reaching out in attempts to collaborate.

He’s responsible for almost all the songs on Made In Lagos by Wizkid.

ThisIsLondon is also an in-house producer for Mavins Records. Popularly known with his producer tag “London!!!”, this British-Nigerian producer joined the music scene in 2019 and has been making waves by producing some of the biggest hits of all time.

He did an amazing work with Tiwa savage 2020 hit single “Koroba” which has been on everyone’s lips especially the ladies and also on Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos‘.

Rexxie

You know it’s a smashing street Jam when the tag “Yo, Rexxie Pon this one (PonDits)” comes up at the intro of the song.

Ezeh Chisom professionally known as Rexxie is the originator of the addictive Zanku sound.

He is the one-number hit-making producer of the Marlian community and has worked with the likes of Naira Marley, Zlatan, Lyta, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, and Mohbad to name a few.

Peace Emmanuel Oredope professionally known as P.Priime is one of Nigeria’s youngest producers.

He started producing songs at the young age of 15. From being a student at Sarz Academy to working with some of Nigeria’s best artists like Fireboy, Cuppy, Zlatan, Naira Marley, Olamide to create some of the best tunes in the music industry.

Known by his signature Tag “P-P-Priimeee, Giddem!!!”, P-prime has successfully created some of the dopest trending beats of 2020.

He produced Zlatan’s Shomo & Unripe Paw Paw featuring Jamopyer, Olamide’s Eru, Green Light Loading, Peruzzi’s Southy Love and many many more.

His ultimate production for 2020 is Infinity by Olamide featuring Omah Lay.

Pheelz

Phillip Kayode Moses popularly known as Pheelz or his producer tag “Rii! Riddimacoolayor!! Is a multi-talented and award-winning producer and songwriter.

He has been in the music scene since 2012 but was known as Pheelz Mr. Producer before he rebranded to Riddimacoolayor.

Over the years, Phleez has worked with some of Nigeria’s best artists to produce some of the hottest tunes in the country.

He Produced on Olamide’s Baddest Ever Album, Street, OT, 2kings, MI’s The Chairman Album, Ghetto University by Runtown, and the Hit songs like; ‘Billionaire‘ by Teni, ‘Scatter‘ for Fireboy, and ’49-99‘ for Tiwa Savage to mention a very few.

Pheelz majored on Fireboy’s Apollo Album in 2020, Some of his buzzing productions off the album include Fireboy’s Hottest hits “Champion”, ‘Remember Me’ and “Spell” which received rave reviews from fans.

And he also dropped a single titled ‘One Life’.

Spax

Born in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria, and grew up in Lagos., most producers prefer the spotlight, Spax is the opposite.

This talented producer has been in the music scene for a while now but he really began to get noticed by people when the Palmwine Music project by Show Dem Camp got released.

He produced most of the standout tracks on that tape including the hit song Popping Again which featured Boj and Odunsi.

This year, he alone produced Palmwine Music Vol. 2 in its entirety and the reception that that album has gotten has been mostly positive.

He also produced most of the hit tracks on Ajebutter22’s and Boj’s joint EP Make E No Cause Fight which included the hit song Yawa.

He also produced song on Poe’s debut album, if you really don’t know how good Spax is, listen to the Palmwine Music 2 album.

Telz

Alli Odunayo Better known as Telz is a Grammy-nominated producer. If you pay attention to the intro of some Nigerian songs, you must have heard the tag “Funkula”.

Many are guilty of referring to his producer’s tag as “Born Killer”, “Fun Killer” and “Porn Killer”. Telz started producing professionally in 2017.

He is responsible for the hottest tunes of 2020.

He Creatively came up with the beats for Patoranking’s Hit song “Abule”, “Do Me” and “Mon Bebe” Featuring Flavour.

On Burna Boy’s Twice as Tall album, he produced Wonderful, Onyeka, and Wetin Dey Sup.

Fresh VDM

First Off, he is an in-house producer for DMW records owned by Davido. It’s most likely that on some of Davido’s hit songs you must have heard the tag “Damn Fresh on the Beat or Fresh!!!!”.

Yes, those tunes were produced by Bello Emmanuel Adeshina professionally known as Fresh VDM (Very Disturbing Music). Do you know Fresh VDM is a Togolese-born Nigerian music producer who is fond of combining unusual sounds to come out with banging beats?

Aside from producing DMW records, he has worked with other artists like; Olamide, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi, Stefflon Don and YCee.

Some of his earlier productions Include “MIND by the DMW stars, DOE by Larry Gaaga, ‘Mata’ by peruzzi, ‘Aje’ by DMW ft Davido, Peruzzi, Yonda, and “Aza” by DMW stars x Duncan Mighty.

Teni Apata, a Nigerian musician, rose to fame thanks to Dr Dolor Entertainment, which was formed by Osadolor Nate Asemota, also known as Dr Dolor.

Dr. Dolor has always had a passion for music, performing in the church choir since he was a child.

His passion for music has led him to establish a multinational music label that has dominated the Nigerian and global music scenes.

Dvpper Music Distribution

Damilola Akinwunmi created DAPPER Distribution, Records (also term as DVPPER) in 2017 as a Nigerian distribution firm and record label situated in Lagos, Nigeria.

It has released albums in a number of genres, but their Afrobeats music is its most well-known.

Global Pop singer Ayo Balogun popularly known as Wizkid established StarBoy Records after departing Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) in 2013. He released his second album Áyo’ via the label.

Wizkid is the major artist in this label and so far has made great music following his relatively new label. Some associated music acts in his label include Maleek Berry, Legendary Beatz, L.A.X.

Essence is a song by Nigerian afrobeat heavyweight Wizkid featuring fellow Nigerian Tems, and produced by Legendary Beatz.

It was released as an album in Wizkid’s Made In Lagos, under the RCA label on October 30th, 2020.

The song spent days in the chart peaking 29 on the US Spotify viral 50, the highest-peaking Nigerian song on the chart.

Davido – Fall

“Fall” is a song by Nigerian singer Davido, released as the second single from his second studio album A Good Time (2019).

The artist-producer duos have been an essential part of the Nigerian music industry. Many of our favourite Afropop hits were crafted from the prolific relationships formed through frequent collaboration by artists and their producers.

When you listen to a certain artist’s song, you can almost guess the producer of the song, this is what an artist-producer relationship can lead to.

Don Jazzy and D’banj

These two held the Music Industry for almost a decade in their palms. The story of how they came to start from the UK where Don Jazzy was a producer working for JJC and D’banj was a security guard with dreams of becoming a superstar.

The story goes that after becoming friends, the two came back to Nigeria to pursue their music careers with D’banj as the frontman and Jazzy as the magic fingers. Their first release was “Tongolo” which was a smash hit.

Over the years, their partnership churned out more hits than any artist in their time could boast of. The two were also founders of one of the biggest labels at that time, Mo’hits records that gave artists like Wande Coal, D’Prince, Dr Sid and the rest a platform to shine.

It also birthed great international acclaim and one of their songs, ‘Scape Goat” caught Kanye West‘s eye who decided to sign them to G.O.O.D Music. But what should have been the beginning of new things in their partnership led to the end of a decade long fruitful collaboration.

ID Cabasa and 9ice

In the early 2000s, 9ice was the poster boy for ID Cabsa’s Coded Tunes record that also housed artists like Seriki, 2Phat, Reminisce, Lord of Ajasa.

9ice and ID Cabasa’s relationship is more of a brotherhood than an artist-producer relationship. 9ice’s first two albums, Certificate and Gongo Aso were produced by ID Cabasa.

“Gongo Aso” was however the album that showed more launched both of them’s career to another phase. The album remains one of Nigeria’s best albums to be released.

Although the two of them rarely collaborate on projects, their relationship still remains great. 9ice named his seventh album after ID Cabasa.

Olamide and Pheelz

Just like Don Jazzy and D’banj’s story, Olamide and Pheelz became friends while under ID Cabasa. Olamide released his first album, “Rapsodi” under Coded Tunes while Pheelz was an interning producer in the label.

When Olamide left coded tunes to establish YBNL, he took Pheelz with him. Their relationship can be described as Mutualism (A symbiotic relationship in which both species benefit.

The both of them became a major driving force in each other’s career. As Olamide’s popularity rose, so did Pheelz’s own too.

As a matter of speaking, Pheelz has produced almost 80% of Olamide’s songs. Olamide’s third album, “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” was entirely produced by Pheelz.

For every Evolution process, Olamide achieved, Pheelz was there in charge of the soundboard and sonic directions.

2Baba and OJB Jezreel

One would argue that OJB Jezreel is Nigeria’s best producer to ever exist and they won’t be wrong. OJB was a versatile producer and an artist at the same time, of which many many music producers apart from Don Jazzy can’t boast of.

His music relationship with 2Baba would always remain relevant given the impact it had on the industry, and they were a perfect fit.

From 2baba‘s classic “Face to Face” album that produced hits like “African Queen“, “Ole“, “Nfana Ibaga” to the ever-flourishing, “Grass to Grace” album, these two had us feeling every emotion possible.

This is one relationship that had a strong impact on contemporary pop even with the arrival of Don Jazzy and D’banj.

Dagrin and Sossick

Dagrin and Sossick were like Batman and Robin. These two would have made more impact on the Hip-Hop scene if not for the death of Dagrin.

Sossick started working with Dagrin in 2006 but it wasn’t until 2009 that their partnership produced fruit with the release of “Pon Pon”

Although Sossick didn’t entirely produce Dagrin‘s popular album, “CEO,” one can’t deny the impact he had on it.

Burna Boy and Leriq

Burna Boy and Leriq have been partners back from their days in Aristokrat label. In fact Leriq produced the whole of Burna’s debut album, “L.I.F.E” which produced hits like “Like To Party“, “Run my Race“, “Yawa Dey.”

Although Leriq hasn’t produced a full album for Burna after “L.I.F.E”, he produced Burna’s “Redemption” EP.

He is also responsible for the production of some of Burna’s hit songs like “Rockstar”, “Monsters You Made“, “Way Too Big“, “No Fit Vex“.

Davido and Shizzi

Shizzi is Davido’s most credible and dependable producer. The first time the two worked on a project was on “Dami Duro” which was initially produced by Davido himself until Shizzi came on board and made changes.

This move would be the beginning of their fruitful relationship which would see the birth of hit songs like “Overseas”, “Skelewu”, “Gobe”, “Ekuro“, “Tchelete (Good Life)”, Fans Mi”, “The Sound”, “Gbagbe Oshi”, “Like That”, “Blow My Mind”.

Wizkid and Sarz

The reason why these two are on the list isn’t about the number of songs they have worked on but because of the magic they always make whenever collaborate.

While Samklef was the main guy on Wizkid’s first album, “Superstar“, Sarz made his entrance into Wizkid’s second album, “Ayo“, producing just two songs off the album.

The biggest fruit to come out of their partnership was Drake’s “One Dance” song which was initially produced by Sarz and written by Wizkid.

Though it could be argued that Wizkid’s “Sound From The Other side” is one of their best collaboration.

Masterkraft and Flavour

Flavour popularized Afro Highlife with his songs and Masterkraft was one of the major driving force behind this.

These two have together crafted quality album that has gone to become cult classics. Despite the fact the Nigerian industry has unofficially seen Lagos as its capital, these have managed to break into the mainstream scene.

Falz and Sess

Falz and Sess relationship started with Falz’s second album, “Stories that Touch” and continued unto “27” and “Moral Instructions” which is the highest point of their relationship so far.

The two have undeniable chemistry when it comes to songs. Their synergy is easy to spot with the ease at which Sess matches Falz tempo by tempo.

Reminisce and Sarz

Reminisce and Sarz have come a long way. Although Sarz is yet to produce an album for Reminisce, the longevity of their working relationship is a cause for envy.  The first song they collaborated on was on Jahbless‘ Joor Oh. “Kako Bi Chicken” was their second partnership.

In their 10 years of working relationship, the two have churned out hits like “Asalamalekun“, “Oja“, “Instagram“, “Ogaranya”

Naira Marley and Rexxie

While their relationship is still one of the youngest on this list, their less than five-year relationship has managed to establish both of them in the limelight.

Although Rexxie was a result of Chinko Ekun‘s “Able God” and Naira Marley‘s popularity was as a result of “Issa Goal“, their partnership in songs helped established them in the street-hop scene.
