Calvert-Lewin played a pivotal role in Leeds’ revival during the festive period. The Yorkshire side, initially mired in the relegation zone and on the brink of parting ways with manager Daniel Farke, switched to a 3-5-2 formation, which proved transformative.

The striker thrived, scoring six goals in five appearances, including key strikes in victories over Chelsea and Crystal Palace, and draws against Liverpool, Brentford, and Sunderland.

This marks Calvert-Lewin’s first Player of the Month award since September 2020 and makes him the first Leeds player to receive the accolade since Rio Ferdinand in October 2001.

Meanwhile, Leeds missed out on the Manager of the Month award, which went to Unai Emery after a stellar month with Aston Villa. The Villans won five of six games, including victories over Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, propelling them into the Premier League title conversation. Emery’s success comes amid a festive period of managerial upheaval, where several big names were dismissed from their posts.

Interestingly, a pattern has emerged with recent Manager of the Month winners: Ruben Amorim (October) and Enzo Maresca (November) both claimed the award but later lost their positions at Manchester United and Chelsea, respectively, after defeats to Emery’s Villa side.

Emery’s recognition reflects a remarkable turnaround for Aston Villa and cements his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most influential tacticians this season.

So far this season, no player or coach has managed to win their respective awards twice, but that could change on the players’ side this month. On the managerial front, however, December is guaranteed to crown a fifth different winner.

December 2025 Premier League Player of the Month nominees

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds United)

Rayan Cherki (Manchester City)

Hugo Ekitiké (Liverpool)

Phil Foden (Manchester City)

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

Harry Wilson (Fulham)

Leeds United’s revival in December owes a lot to Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The striker found the net six times in five league games, helping Leeds climb out of the relegation zone. Victories over Chelsea and Crystal Palace, combined with draws against Liverpool, Brentford and Sunderland, highlighted a gritty and productive month.

Manchester City dominate the shortlist with three nominees. Rayan Cherki was a creative force, producing four assists and a goal as City stormed to five wins. Phil Foden delivered at the other end, scoring four goals and adding an assist to cap off a strong run of form.

Erling Haaland, who picked up the award back in September, is eyeing a second win after another ruthless month in front of goal. The Norwegian recorded five goals and three assists, underlining his status as one of the league’s most feared forwards.

Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitiké kept pace with Haaland, also scoring five goals. His strikes proved decisive against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton, while he grabbed a brace in a high-scoring draw with Leeds.

Aston Villa are also well represented. Morgan Rogers ended December with four goals, while Ollie Watkins hit five during Villa’s impressive winning streak, which stretched to 11 matches before coming to an end against Arsenal.

Fulham winger Harry Wilson enjoyed a standout month as well. He chipped in with two important goals and four assists, playing a key role in pushing the Cottagers into the conversation for European qualification.

December 2025 Premier League Manager of the Month nominees

Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Unai Emery (Aston Villa)

Daniel Farke (Leeds United)

Pep Guardiola (Manchester City)

Arsenal may be missing from the player shortlist, but Mikel Arteta remains in contention for managerial honours. Despite dealing with a defensive injury crisis, he guided the Gunners to five wins from six matches, strengthening their grip at the top of the table.

Arteta’s December campaign featured two clashes with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa. While honours were shared overall, Villa recorded a notable win against Arsenal and also defeated Chelsea and Manchester United, keeping themselves firmly in the title race.

Down at the other end of the table, Daniel Farke deserves recognition for Leeds United’s turnaround. The Yorkshire side went unbeaten throughout December, navigating tough fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool. A tactical reshuffle proved effective, helping Leeds pull clear of immediate danger.

Pep Guardiola rounds off the shortlist after Manchester City closed out 2025 in perfect fashion, winning all five of their league games. With three City players nominated for Player of the Month, the Spaniard’s inclusion comes as little surprise.

The upcoming campaign kicks off on Friday, August 15, with reigning champions Liverpool set to raise the curtain at Anfield in a home clash against Bournemouth, marking the start of Arne Slot’s title defence following his impressive debut season.

In a blockbuster encounter on opening weekend, Manchester United will welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford, promising early fireworks between two historical rivals.

Newly promoted Sunderland, returning to the Premier League for the first time since the 2016/17 season, begin their top-flight journey at the Stadium of Light against West Ham United on Saturday. Elsewhere, Championship winners Leeds United will face Everton under the lights on Monday night at Elland Road.

Burnley, who secured immediate promotion back to the Premier League, will travel to North London to face Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur, with Thomas Frank making his Premier League debut as Spurs’ manager.

Meanwhile, Manchester City, fresh off a rare trophyless campaign, will aim to make a strong statement when they visit Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

The 2025/26 season will feature 380 matches, spread across 33 weekends and five midweek rounds, culminating on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The Premier League confirmed that the August 15 start date, coming 82 days after the end of the previous season, was chosen to maximize player recovery time.

In a significant shift, the league also announced improved player welfare measures during the hectic December period. No team will be required to play two matches within a 60-hour window over Christmas and New Year.

This season also marks the beginning of a new Premier League broadcast deal, with every match not falling within the traditional Saturday 3 p.m. blackout to be shown live by Sky Sports or TNT Sports, expanding access for fans across the globe.

The spotlight is now firmly on the upcoming 2025/2026 Premier League season, with two Championship sides punching their ticket to the top flight.

Burnley has punched their ticket back to the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, clinching automatic promotion alongside Leeds United. These two clubs are the first confirmed to join next season’s elite competition.

Led by head coach Scott Parker, Burnley’s return comes just a year after they were relegated, marking a rapid and impressive turnaround.

The Clarets’ campaign has been fueled by grit, consistency, and a rock-solid backline. Midfielder Josh Brownhill stole the spotlight in their decisive win, bagging both goals to propel the team to 94 points—enough to guarantee promotion with games to spare.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is Burnley’s incredible 31-game unbeaten run, a new club record. Their defensive record has also been stellar—just 15 goals conceded all season, the best in the Championship.

With two matches remaining, Burnley and Leeds are neck and neck in the title race, promising a dramatic conclusion to the campaign.

For Burnley fans, the countdown begins. A new Premier League chapter awaits, with hopes high that Parker’s men can not only compete but thrive back in the big league.

Tyler Adams‘ £20 million (€23 million/$25 million) transfer to Chelsea has been cancelled, despite the midfielder having passed a club medical.

The USMNT international’s contract had been advanced by the Blues, but they withdrew on Friday, forcing the 24-year-old to return to Leeds.

The specific cause of Chelsea’s change of heart is unclear, and the club denies that it has anything to do with Moises Caicedo’s rising price.

The arrival of Caicedo, which could set a record, maybe the main factor, according to The Telegraph.

Adams, who captained the USMNT in last year’s World Cup in Qatar, is now left in limbo and will be hoping to land at another Premier League club before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Adams will be attempting to recuperate from the injury that prevented him from playing for the USMNT this summer and the end of the last Premier League season as the transfer merry-go-round continues to spin.

Leeds United appointed Daniel Farke as their new manager on a four-year deal ahead of their return to the Championship.

Farke succeeds Sam Allardyce, who failed to keep the Whites in the Premier League and left in early June after being appointed two months earlier.

Last season, he was at Bundesliga team Borussia Monchengladbach, but he was fired after only one season after leading them to a 10th-place finish.

Farke’s employment at Leeds is his first in English football after a four-year stint at Norwich, where he won the Championship twice in 2019 and 2021 before being fired nearly two years ago.

Farke was chosen manager of Russian club Krasnodar in January 2022 after leaving Norwich, however, he departed the club two months later without managing any games following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

On his appointment at Elland Road, Farke said: “I’d like to thank everyone for the really warm welcome, I’m really grateful at this moment, to work for this amazing club.

“I feel humble at this time, I know the responsibility to fulfil all the expectations and I want to repay the trust shown.

“The most important thing is to create a togetherness and unity within this club again and from today onwards, I will work on it with my staff and players, and I trust our supporters will be there when we need them. I can’t wait for the first game of the season.”

Farke will be aided by Eddie Riemer, and Christopher John and Chris Domogalla, who formerly worked together at Norwich, will also join his coaching staff.

Leeds vice-chairman and director Paraag Marathe added: “After a thorough recruitment process, we are excited to confirm Daniel’s appointment as our first-team manager.

“His record in the Championship is clear, and I am impressed by his leadership and plan to guide us back to the Premier League.

Barcelona winger Raphinha has refuted claims that he has authorized the team to begin accepting bids for him during the forthcoming summer transfer window.

Raphinha moved from Leeds to Barcelona last summer in a deal worth up to £55 million. The Brazilian’s season got off to a rocky start as he was in and out of the starting lineup and had trouble scoring and providing assists.

Although he only made four direct goal contributions in his first 15 La Liga appearances, he has found his groove after 2022 became 2023.

However, with plans to re-sign Lionel Messi, Barcelona’s continued financial issues will necessitate player sales once more in order to earn money for the upcoming season.

According to reports, Ansu Fati has already been informed that he may depart.

There won’t be a scarcity of people interested in Raphinha. After losing out to Chelsea for Mykhailo Mudryk, Arsenal pursued the 26-year-old last summer as he was about to leave Leeds. In January, they even got in touch with Barcelona about both him and Ferran Torres.

Both players continue to draw interest from north London, with 90min claiming only last week that Arsenal is still intent to buy a right winger as part of a focused bigger recruiting push in preparation for their first Champions League appearance in six seasons next season.

A list of Gunner’s targets includes Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen, Raphinha, and Torres. Wilfried Zaha, a future free agency, is currently another possibility as a backup.

But Raphinha has responded angrily to a post by Fanaticos Por Futebol on Instagram that claimed he has said ‘OK’ to Barcelona listening to offers. The post specifically referenced Chelsea and Newcastle and appeared to have twisted a report originally published by SPORT.

“This is a lie and whoever said that is a liar, uninformed and unprofessional,” he directly replied.

It makes sense why Raphinha is so determined to stay in Barcelona. He was holding out for a transfer to Camp Nou in July, as reported, even though Chelsea and Leeds had already agreed on a price. Given that Deco, a former player for Porto, Barcelona, and Chelsea, as well as his agent, were both interested in moving to Catalonia, it is instructive that the Blues were unable to reach a personal agreement.

Leeds United have announced that Sam Allardyce will take over as manager immediately, succeeding Javi Gracia.

With only four games left, the Whites are presently barely out of the Premier League relegation zone on goal differential.

After Jesse Marsch was fired, Gracia was brought in to calm the ship. However, the Spaniard only managed to win three of his twelve matches at Elland Road, and he has since been sacked.

Mp3bullet reported on Tuesday that Leeds would sack director of football Victor Orta – which was confirmed later in the day – while Allardyce would take the head coach gig.

Allardyce, who has been unemployed since leaving West Brom in 2021 after failing to save them from the bottom, has now been named as the manager Leeds would be bringing in to help them fight relegation.
