The Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has been named the winner of the Serie A goal of the month award for January 2023.

On Thursday, the winner was revealed on the league’s Twitter account.

In the league match against AS Roma on Sunday, the Nigerian scored on a volley. The game was won by his team Napoli, 2-1.

The game’s first score happened when the goal was scored in the 17th minute.

Osimhen was at the end of a tidy cross-in from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Nigerian cushioned the ball on his chest and redirected it with the thigh before smashing a shot into the roof of the net beyond Rui Patricio.

It was the 24-year-old’s 14th league goal of the season, adding to his comfort at the summit of Serie A’s goal scorers.

Osimhen was nominated for the best player award in January and received the award a few days later.

Along with Ademola Lookman, Lautaro Martinez, Paulo Dybala, and Luis Alberto, he was listed for the monthly award.

Osimhen has been on fire, scoring 15 goals in 20 games in all competitions and assisting Napoli in maintaining their 13-point lead at the top of Serie A.

Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, both forwards for the Super Eagles, have been nominated for Serie A’s Player of the Month award for January 2023.

In five league games played in January, Osimhen scored five goals and provided an assist for Napoli, while Lookman scored five goals and provided two assists for Atalanta.

Osimhen, who has 14 goals in 16 games, and Lookman, who has 12 goals in 19 games, are both at the top of the Serie A scoring list.

Osimhen scored in four out of five games he played for Napoli in January and was matched stride for stride by Lookman who also did the same for Atalanta.

The Napoli striker failed to score against Inter Milan, but he went on a scoring streak in the four games that followed, defeating Sampdoria, Juventus, Salernitana, and most recently Roma.

In contrast, Lookman failed to score in Atalanta’s first two league matches this month against Spezia and Bologna.

However, the 25-year-old winger scored one goal in Atalanta’s final league match against Sampdoria in addition to two braces against Salernitana and Juventus.

Along with Paulo Dybala of Roma, Luis Alberto of Lazio, and Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan, both Super Eagles players are nominated for player of the month.

The official Serie A Twitter handle posted the five outstanding players of January 2023 and both Osimhen and Lookman were among the nominees.
