Afro-soul singer, songwriter, and producer Kunmie has officially opened a new chapter in his career with the release of his 13-track debut album, 22.

The project takes its title from a significant period in Kunmie’s life, representing the age when he began to fully understand and embrace his artistic identity.

Following the success of his breakout record Arike, the album gives listeners a much closer look at the experiences that shaped him, including the bold decision to leave home at 16 in pursuit of his musical ambitions.

Sonically, 22 sits at the intersection of Afro-soul, R&B, and modern African pop. Warm acoustic elements, atmospheric keys, and layered vocals create a soft but detailed backdrop for Kunmie’s expressive delivery.

His distinctive voice remains at the center of the project, carrying the emotional weight of each record with a natural sense of vulnerability.

The album also brings together an impressive collection of collaborators, with Zlatan, Phyno, Lojay, Wizard Chan and Joeboy adding their individual styles to different moments across the project.

Beyond its sound, 22 feels deeply autobiographical. Kunmie uses the album to reflect on growing into adulthood, chasing ambition, dealing with heartbreak, and maintaining faith while navigating the uncertainties that come with success.

The rapid attention surrounding his music also becomes part of the story. Rather than presenting himself as someone who has everything figured out, Kunmie explores the pressure, self-doubt and vulnerability that can accompany a sudden rise, turning those experiences into honest songwriting.

Now available across major streaming platforms, 22 introduces Kunmie as an artist with a clear sense of identity, emotional depth and a story that extends far beyond the hits that first brought him into the spotlight.

The latest streaming rankings reinforce the country’s commanding presence in African music, as Nigerian acts once again led the conversation across the genre.

Only one song outside the Nigerian music ecosystem managed to break into the top five, highlighting the widespread appeal of Afro-R&B created by Nigerian artists.

Leading the chart is “VENUS“ by Faceless and SERØTONIN, which finished the year as Africa’s most-streamed R&B song on Spotify. Close behind is Rema’s “Baby (Is It a Crime),“ a record that has maintained impressive momentum since its release earlier in the year.

Fast-rising singer Kunmie secured the third spot with “Arike,” while Fola and Kizz Daniel teamed up for “Lost,” which landed fourth on the list. Completing the top five is the collaboration between Ayra Starr and Wizkid, “Gimme Dat.“

With Nigerian artists occupying 80 percent of the rankings, the list reflects the country’s continued dominance of the continent’s streaming landscape and the growing international appetite for Afro-R&B.

The achievement also underscores the consistency of Nigerian musicians in producing records that resonate with audiences across Africa and beyond.

Built around sensual melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Gorgeous tells the story of being completely captivated by a woman whose beauty, charm, and personality leave a lasting impression. The song captures the excitement and vulnerability that come with falling deeply for someone who feels truly special.

The track brings together two voices known for expressive songwriting and soft, immersive vocal delivery, creating a soundscape that leans heavily into mood, chemistry, and emotional depth rather than high-energy production.

At its core, “Gorgeous” revolves around admiration for a woman who seems unaware of her own beauty. The song captures that quiet tension of noticing someone’s charm and presence while they themselves remain oblivious to the effect they have.

Built on warm Afro-R&B instrumentation, the record paints a picture of love that is gentle yet consuming—rooted in emotional awareness, attraction, and appreciation of both physical and personality-driven beauty.

Kunmie opens the track with a reflective verse, addressing a woman whose impact on him feels both overwhelming and understated. He highlights her smile, presence, and the emotional uncertainty she creates, noting the depth of feelings that come from her not even realizing her effect.

“She does not even see what I see, and that is what makes it deeper,” he said.

Lojay complements the tone with a calm and repetitive hook that anchors the record’s message. His delivery reinforces the idea of steady admiration, adding balance without disrupting the song’s soft emotional flow.

Rather than shifting into conflict or longing, the track maintains a sense of clarity—love expressed simply and sincerely.

Overall, “Gorgeous” stands as a heartfelt Afro-R&B offering centered on affection without complication, highlighting the chemistry between both artists and their ability to translate subtle emotion into music.

The single is now available on all major streaming platforms via ONErpm.

Emerging Afro-R&B voice Kunmie is steadily carving out his space on the big stage, and his latest release Confession feels like a defining moment in that journey.

The single arrives as a smooth, slow-burning alternative R&B piece, gently laced with African rhythmic undertones, and it instantly signals the arrival of a vocalist who is less interested in trends and more committed to pure emotional expression.

Kunmie Blends Emotion & Rhythm On New Single “Confession”

In a landscape often driven by uptempo club records, Kunmie’s decision to lean into restraint and vulnerability gives the record an immediate standout quality.

Built on the refined production touch of FADE Venom and Puffybeatz, Confession unfolds with a minimalist yet luxurious sonic design. Deep, ambient bass textures sit quietly beneath airy pads and soft atmospheric layers, while sparse percussion, light rim shots and subtle rhythmic taps keep everything in motion without ever crowding the vocals.

The production is intentionally spacious, allowing Kunmie’s voice to occupy the centre of the record with full clarity. His delivery carries a rare duality: a warm, velvety tone that can suddenly lift into a fragile, emotional falsetto, giving the track both technical polish and raw feeling.

Lyrically, the song reads like an open diary entry. Staying true to its title, Confession explores themes of emotional surrender, romantic regret, devotion, and the uneasy beauty of admitting fault in love.

Rather than relying on predictable love-song phrases, Kunmie leans into a more reflective, narrative-driven style—almost like he is speaking directly to the listener in real time. That honesty gives the track its weight, turning personal vulnerability into something universally relatable.

With Confession, Kunmie doesn’t just introduce a new single—he reinforces his identity as a vocalist focused on emotion, melody, and depth. It’s a quiet but confident statement from an artist who seems more interested in building lasting connections than chasing momentary attention.

Fresh off his Before We Became Strangers EP, Afro-soul standout Kunmie returns with his latest single, Julie.

The track further solidifies his reputation as a master of the “lover boy” aesthetic, moving beyond the honeymoon-phase themes of his earlier work to explore a more textured, rhythmic side of attraction.

Afro-Soul Star Kunmie Drops Sensual Single “Julie”

His signature Yoruba-infused melodies meet a contemporary, uptempo Afro-fusion bounce, creating a sound that’s both fresh and familiar.

Julie is defined by Kunmie’s airy, emotive vocals, which have already earned him millions of monthly listeners. The song tells the story of a captivating and perhaps slightly elusive woman, with Kunmie using his songwriting to paint a vivid portrait of fascination and longing. While it retains the vulnerability that made him a TikTok favorite, the track introduces a more polished production aimed at late-night radio sets and the dancefloor alike.

The track’s brilliance lies in its simplicity and the immersive “KunmieVerse” vibe it creates. Following earlier 2026 releases like Solace, Julie feels like a natural evolution, moving from stripped-back acoustic soul into a fuller, richer sound.

The catchy chorus and infectious hook showcase Kunmie’s confidence as a pop songwriter, proving he can craft radio-ready hits without losing the emotional depth fans have come to expect.

As he continues to rise as a leading voice among the “Next Up” generation, Julie serves as an ideal entry point for new listeners.

The song highlights an artist comfortable in his own skin, shedding the viral sensation label to establish himself as a mainstay in the Afrobeats and Afro-soul landscape. With this release, Kunmie isn’t chasing trends—he’s refining a soulful, romantic sound that is unmistakably his own.

Davido, Burna Boy, and BNXN Lead 2025’s Most-Streamed Nigerian Albums on Spotify

The race for Nigeria’s most-streamed projects of 2025 is heating up, and, unsurprisingly, it’s the usual titans setting the pace.

According to fresh data compiled by The Debut Hub, a popular music insights page on X (formerly Twitter), Davido, Burna Boy, and BNXN currently occupy the top three spots on the ranking of the most-streamed Nigerian albums on Spotify this year so far.

Top Most Streamed 2025 Nigerian Projects on Spotify

While the list is not an official Spotify release, it has become one of the most widely circulated and respected summaries of Nigerian streaming performance, highlighting how far Afrobeats has travelled globally. Collectively, the 20 projects on the list have amassed a staggering 2.214 billion streams in 2025 alone.

Davido’s “5ive” and Burna Boy’s “No Sign of Weakness” Dominate the Charts

At the summit sits Davido with his fifth studio album, 5ive, racking up 320 million streams to become 2025’s most-streamed Nigerian project so far.

Released earlier this year, the album has been hailed for its confident fusion of Afrobeats, pop, and amapiano influences, another testament to Davido’s staying power and global resonance.

In second place is Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness with 250 million streams, extending the Grammy winner’s remarkable streak of top-performing albums. Since African Giant in 2019, Burna has consistently dominated global charts with projects that blend introspection, swagger, and sonic innovation.

BNXN (formerly Buju) completes the top three with his project CAPTAIN, which has earned 193 million streams. Once known primarily for his collaborations, BNXN’s solo success with CAPTAIN proves his growth into a self-sustaining star capable of carrying a full-length project to commercial success.

Odumodublvck, Olamide, and Others Keep the Heat On

The rest of the top 10 reflects a healthy mix of sonic diversity within the Afrobeats ecosystem. Odumodublvck’s THE MACHINE IS COMING takes the fourth spot with 153 million streams, followed by Oxlade’s OFA: Deluxe Edition at 145 million and Olamide’s self-titled Olamidé with 127 million.
Producers and experimentalists like Sarz (Protect Sarz At All Costs) and rising stars like Fola, T.I Blaze, and Seyi Vibez also make notable appearances, proof that Nigerian audiences and the global diaspora are engaging deeply with a wide range of sounds.

One of the biggest talking points around the list is the absence of Wizkid.
The omission, however, isn’t a reflection of waning influence; it’s simply a matter of timing. Wizkid’s last album, Morayo, dropped in November 2024 as a heartfelt tribute to his late mother.

The project, though outside the 2025 data window, set a new record for the highest opening week for an African artist on Spotify.

Rather than focus on an album cycle, Wizkid has taken a different approach this year, staying visible through strategic collaborations. In 2025 alone, he has appeared on global hits like “Gimme Dat” with Ayra Starr, “Billionaires Club” with Olamide and Darkoo, “Forever Be Mine” with Gunna, and “Dynamite” with Tyla.

Each collaboration has garnered millions of streams worldwide, reinforcing Big Wiz’s position as Afrobeats’ most bankable feature artist, maintaining presence without the fatigue of a traditional rollout.

If one thing is clear from the 2025 streaming data, it’s that Afrobeats has evolved into a multi-dimensional global movement. The fact that all 20 projects reportedly crossed 50 million Spotify streams in a single year underscores the genre’s massive streaming power and cultural consistency.

While Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid remain Afrobeats’ foundational pillars, new voices like Rema, BNXN, Odumodublvck, Asake, and Ayra Starr continue to expand its emotional and sonic reach, blending heritage with innovation.

The singer had earlier disclosed that Sanity would officially be released on Friday, October 3, 2025. With teaser snippets and previews already stirring conversation online, expectations are high that the body of work will be both bold and introspective.

Described as raw, reflective, and full of energy, Sanity explores themes of struggle, celebration, self-discovery, and triumph, all delivered in Bella’s signature fusion of vibrant street rhythms and heartfelt lyricism.

More than just a party soundtrack, the album is billed as an experience for the mind and soul, underscoring Bella Shmurda’s growing influence in the Afrobeats and hip-hop space.

The countdown to the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has officially begun, with this year’s competition tipped to be one of the fiercest in the history of the continental showcase.

On Wednesday, August 27, the International Committee of AFRIMA, in partnership with the African Union Commission, released the nominees’ list, spotlighting African music heavyweights and rising stars across the continent.

Global Afrobeats icons Davido and Burna Boy will face off against Congolese legend Fally Ipupa, Moroccan hitmaker El Grande Toto, South African DJ Maphorisa, and Egyptian superstar Amr Diab. They will also compete with a fresh wave of emerging acts including Shallipopi, Himra, Moliy, Ayra Starr, Tanzanian crooner Juma Jux, and Senegal’s Mia Guissé.

Organizers revealed that AFRIMA 2025 received a record-breaking 10,717 submissions, the highest in its 12-year history. After 10 days of rigorous screening, a 13-member jury trimmed the entries down to 343 nominees spread across 40 categories, representing Africa’s regions and its diaspora.

Speaking on the unveiling, AFRIMA jury member Delani Makhalima hailed the growth of African music: “For years our voices were not heard, but today African music is global. This is AFRIMA, the biggest music entity on the continent.”

The 2025 awards ceremony is scheduled to hold in Lagos from November 25 to 30. The week-long programme will feature signature events such as the AFRIMA Music Village, the Africa Music Business Summit, the Nominees Party, and will climax with the grand finale on November 30.

The prestigious awards night will be broadcast live to audiences in more than 84 countries.
