The Premier League has revealed seven players from five different clubs on the shortlist for the 2022/23 EA SPORTS FIFA Player of the Season award.

The Premier League Player of the Season award, sponsored by EA SPORTS since 2016, has been given out annually since the 1994/95 season and is one of the top three end-of-season individual accolades, together with the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year.

The newer PFA Vertu Motors Premier League Fans’ Player of the Year award, which is voted for entirely by fans, has also become a desired honor.

Given their respective performances in 2022/23, Manchester City and Arsenal dominated the nominations for Premier League Player of the Season.

The obvious choice is Erling Haaland. Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund this summer, the striker has scored 36 Premier League goals and counting, a new single-season record since the competition’s inception in 1992.

He is joined by City colleague Kevin De Bruyne, who has made City sing and now leads the Premier League in assists (16).

Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka have been nominated for Arsenal, who led the Premier League until recently in quest of their first title since 2004.

Since being named Arsenal captain last summer, Odegaard has improved his play this year and transformed into a true leader. Similar to how he has improved, Saka has amassed an incredible 24 goals and assists in the Premier League.

Marcus Rashford, a forward for Manchester United, is also a candidate. The 25-year-old has quickly regained his form following a disappointing 2021/22 season and still has three games left to match his best-ever Premier League goal total of 17, which he scored in 2019–20.

Another player who has returned to form in 2022–2023 is Harry Kane. Without Haaland’s spectacular impact, the Spurs talisman would have been a lock for the Golden Boot in any other season. His 27 goals are an incredibly outstanding return for a Tottenham club that has otherwise regressed.

Last but not least, Kieran Trippier of Newcastle has been selected because of his reliability. The Magpies are on pace for their first top-four finish in 20 long years thanks in large part to the 32-year-old, who has started all 35 of their Premier League games so far.

Since 2016–17, no Liverpool players have been nominated for awards. Due to Manchester City’s recent domination in the Premier League, De Bruyne is the current holder after his victory last season. The previous three holders were all Manchester City players.

The eight players shortlisted for the Young Player of the Season award also include Haaland, Odegaard, and Saka. The candidates for manager of the season are Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola, Eddie Howe, Marco Silva, Unai Emery, and Roberto De Zerbi.

Kieran Trippier believes Arsenal’s £120m target, Declan Rice, is better than both Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Manchester United’s Casemiro.

Although Rice, 24, is anticipated to change clubs this summer, West Ham are reportedly holding out for a £120 million transfer price.

Rice is one of Mikel Arteta’s top objectives for the summer transfer window at Arsenal, although the Premier League leaders will likely have competition from Chelsea and Manchester United.

Trippier has played alongside Partey at Atletico Madrid and has also been Rice’s teammate with England’s national side when asked to pick who is the better player, the Newcastle United right-back told FIVE: ‘Declan… Declan’s unbelievable.

‘Probably one of the best in the world in what he does.’

Asked if he rates Rice above Casemiro, Trippier replied: ‘Yeah.

‘As defenders you appreciate like me you appreciate the likes of Michael Carrick or Declan, it makes your job easier, they’re just mopping everything up.

‘Don’t get me wrong, Casemiro, the trophies he’s won, the Champions Leagues, of course he’s a world-class player, but if you’re talking right now, Dec is incredible, he’s got the age as well.’

Fans and football lovers have voted for their favourite via the EA SPORTS website for the Premier League Player of the Month award.

The public vote has been combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the winner, who will be revealed earlier today.

After the voting was combined Arsenal star, Martin Odegaard won the November and December EA SPORTS Player of the Month award.

Odegaard wins the award after league-high six-goal involvements in November and December.

Arsenal captain Odegaard becomes only the second Norwegian to win the accolade, after Manchester City’s Erling Haaland earned the August 2022 prize.

The Premier League has confirmed and unveiled the full official list of nominees for the player of the month award for November/December 2022.

Following a competitive month of November/December 2022, the premier league’s organizers have released a comprehensive list of nominees for the player of the month award.

The league chose these football players after weighing up their enormous contributions to their respective club teams during all of the game weeks in November and December 2022.

This list was released earlier today, January 5, 2022, on the official website of the Premier League.

After putting in excellent performances throughout November and December, eight players have been shortlisted for the EA SPORTS Player of the Month award.

The public vote and the votes of a panel of football experts will be combined to determine the winner, who will be revealed the next week.

Shortlist of EA SPORTS players:

• P4 W3 D0 L1 G0 A1 Casemiro (MUN)

The Brazilian was a pillar of strength in the middle of Manchester United’s midfield, guiding them to victories over Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Another assist came from Casemiro.

• P4 W2 D1 L1 G4 A0 Erling Haaland (MCI)

The Manchester City forward scored four goals in November and December, which was the most of any Premier League player. He scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time against Fulham, and with a brace against Leeds United, he set a record for the quickest player to achieve 20 Premier League goals. Against Everton, he also scored.

• P4 W2 D2 L0 G0 A1 CS1 Ben Mee (BRE)

The Brentford centre-back helped the club to some outstanding results as they claimed a stunning 2-1 win at Man City, beat London rivals West Ham United and claimed a draw against Tottenham Hotspur, climbing into the top half.

Central midfielder Palhinha produced authoritative displays in Fulham’s four matches, including a 3-0 success at Crystal Palace. He scored a late winner as the Cottagers finished 2022 with a victory over Southampton.

The Manchester United star maintained his stellar performance from the FIFA World Cup 2022, scoring one goal and setting up another in the 3-0 victory over Forest, and scoring the game-winning goal against Wolves.

The 21-year-old scored pivotal goals in Arsenal’s pursuit of the title, netting the equaliser in a 3-1 win against West Ham, and scoring the opener in the 4-2 win at Brighton & Hove Albion. He also set up the only goal in a victory at Chelsea.

Liverpool and England right-back Trent Alexander- Arnold has brushed off criticism of his defence, claiming that comparisons to other players in his position are unfair.

Gareth Southgate’s limited use of Alexander-Arnold in the build-up to the World Cup reignited the debate about his defensive abilities, and the Liverpool man didn’t help himself with a handful of suspect performances at the club level heading into the tournament.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has regularly come out in defence of Alexander-Arnold and the right-back has now offered his own response to his doubters.

“I think it’s come to a point where it’s the lazy opinion, it’s the lazy thing to say,” he told talkSPORT. “People who kind of just watch the game and see what they want to see, there’s that prejudice I believe now.

“You see what you want to see at the end of the day. If you’re going to a game and you have a perception that a player’s lazy and you see him once not running then in your mind he’s lazy. You don’t see the rest of the game where they’re running around, sprinting around.

“I suppose that’s where I feel like I’m judged with people going to games or people watch me play football with a preconception of ‘he’s not a good defender’ or ‘he can’t defend well’ so when I do have that one mistake or that one time someone gets past me then that confirms what they think.

“At times it feels like it doesn’t matter how well I do because if I’m not perfect then it’s not good enough and I’m held to standards that potentially other players aren’t held to, but that’s life. You’ve got to get on with it.”

Alexander-Arnold has not yet made an England start at the World Cup after losing out to Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier. In the Three Lions’ triumph over Wales, he played for 30 minutes, taking Walker’s place as the Manchester City player recovered from a groin injury.

Gareth Southgate has named his 23-man squad for England’s match against Germany at Wembley Stadium on Monday night, which excludes Liverpool and Manchester City stars.

In the biggest and perhaps most controversial omission, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has not been included for what is the Three Lions’ last game before November’s World Cup.

Jack Grealish of Manchester City has also been excluded, though this is due to a suspension after receiving his second yellow card of the Nations League season during the loss to Italy last Friday.

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse and West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen are the other names to have failed to make the cut.

It was anticipated that Southgate would use the Germany match to try out more inexperienced players given that England had already been demoted from the top division of the Nations League after collecting just one point in five games and failing to score from open play in any of them.

However, this does not appear to be the case, with Alexander-Arnold now in serious danger of missing out on a place on the plane to Qatar.

The 23-year-old right-back hasn’t played for England frequently under Southgate because Kyle Walker of Manchester City, Kieran Trippier of Newcastle, and Reece James of Chelsea are ahead of him in the lineup.

Tomori’s omission has also drawn criticism, given how well the 24-year-old has performed since moving from Chelsea to Milan last year, and the struggles of more established England centre-backs like Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who was previously left out of the squad to face Italy, is one player who has been added to the squad to face Germany and could earn his first international cap.

After an incredible start to the season in which he has scored five goals and provided three assists in just eight games for the Bees, the 26-year-old was called up to England for the first time ever for the September international break.
