Spotify EQUAL aims to foster gender equality in music and provide a platform to highlight influential female creators and is a deserved platform for the innovative Kenyan artist.

Having developed her love for music in choirs at school, Muthoni Drummer Queen has achieved acclaim not only for her own music but also for her wider work in the Kenyan music industry.

Fresh out of university, for example, she organised the Blankets and Wine music festival, which has provided a platform for alternative musicians in the region since 2008. Since then, the festival has come to incorporate elements of fashion, art, and literature in addition to music. Having started out as a way to promote independent acts, the festival has also played host to a number of internationally-acclaimed acts from across Africa.

Muthoni also founded perFORM which is a music business and artistic development incubator. Starting in 2019, perFORM aims to enable practitioners in the music industry to filter, order, refine, and master the business and artistic skills required to build a sustainable music career.

On 19 November, the renowned Kenyan artist released a new album called River, and the track, ‘African Fever‘ will be featured on the EQUAL Africa and EQUAL Global playlists.

River is Muthoni’s fourth studio album and the third made in collaboration with Swiss production duo GR and Hook. It features a number of global Afro-diasporic sounds, blended with hip-hop, reggae dancehall, R&B, and traditional drum beats from various ethnic communities around Kenya. The album’s genesis came during a Nairobi creative residency in 2019 and was further developed during a 50-plus date touring season that same year.

Muthoni welcomed the acknowledgment and encouraged other female artists to be loud and make space for themselves in the music industry.

“When they don’t give you a seat at the table, make your own with and for the people that love and celebrate you as you are,” she says.

Other African artists to have been featured on EQUAL include Kenya’s SSARU, Nigeria’s Ayra Starr, and South Africa’s DBN Gogo.

The Kenyan musical artist and rapper Nyamari Ogengu, Nyashinski has finally gotten married this weekend on Friday 10th December 2021 at the Nairobi Chapel.

This Kenyan rapper who got overwhelming publicity after the release of the masterpiece song ‘Malaika’ which means an angel that has over 13 million views on YouTube left us tongue-tied with such great news.

Nyashinski who has been in people’s heads rent-free has eventually gotten married to the love of his life and as his fans, we stand for it. We know how settling can be hard especially for celebrities. Very few do it and some don’t last very long.

Nyashiski is one of the most respectable artists in Kenya and he’s the one who really keeps his private life private.

In his song KEBS at 0:46 he raps:

“kwa ten years hamkua mnajali mahali gani nalala, hii screwdriver yangu ni Shimo gani ina screw”.

That was after he was back from the United States and everyone wanted to know what was going on in his life. He told us to mind our business.

He’s a guy who can only be contacted via email, not even WhatsApp. Yep, you read that right. The management team must be working overtime on this one. Not this time though, this good news was shared for the whole world to know as it was meant to be. He couldn’t hide this if he tried.

The one who managed to pull Nyashinski out of the bachelor’s community and off the market is none other than Zia Bert who has been a long-time fiancee of the rapper.

They had a traditional wedding two years ago and even have a kid together but on the 10th of December is when they both said “I do“. Most of the comments on the wedding thought he was marrying some other woman because his first wedding (traditional) wasn’t a secret as well. With his unique brown suit and her dashing white gown that has peacock style these two finally made things official.

The name might not ring a bell because this lady with stunning looks is not a public figure. A diamond in the sand.

Dolly Parton and the husband have been married for decades now and fight me if you and I believe part of the reason is that one of them is not a media socialite. I guess this is what this hitmaker of “Mungu Pekee” meant when he sang “Lift me up”

Who attended the wedding?

When Nyashinski was silent for about a decade after he was featured in the song with Amani ‘bad boy’ we were all curious as to what happened to our boy, and a little mad that he’d leave us hanging as he did.

But just as we didn’t know what he was doing then none of us saw this coming. As expected the wedding ceremony that took place in Nairobi was private and only attended by friends and family.

Were they observing health protocols due to the ongoing pandemic or is Nyashinski is a very private person? Some of the few artists who attended the wedding include DJ Styles, Kleptomaniacs, and Nameless, Collo, with the wife Wahu.

The master of the Ceremony was Robert Bulare. The chosen few. Only a few photos for the wedding could be accessed so when I say this guy is private you know what I mean.
The best man for the groom was his old manager Fakii Liwali.

Every era has its icon, just as there was Moses during the exodus, there is Phy in Kenyan music.

I agree, there has been music evolution music for decades a little taste and style that has changed according to market preference. But good music is still good music and it pains me when it is often ignored and not appreciated as it should be.

Underrated seems kind to what these Kenyan artists are going through. In the Kenyan entertainment industry, it’s no different. In times like this, I always question if it’s the management or the fans that are failing the artist. Either way, this Phy deserves so much than what we are delivering as a country.

Know Mwihaki Ng’etich famous as Phy

Famous in African attire look, you might have spotted this modern queen who loves her heritage dressed in African wear (Kitenge, turbans, and cultural jewelry’s in most of her covers.

Music is a very competitive industry everyone’s constantly looking for something different, a unique feature you can’t find in anyone else apart from your singing talent. Phy already has hers.

Phy started getting people’s attention when she was the second winner in airtel trace and become even more famous when she won Maisha superstar.

Nameless always claimed that only nameless can sing, nameless that was until Phy nailed his song “Nasinzia” and he couldn’t be more wrong.

Her music journey

Unlike other toddlers who were eating sand and snot by then, Phy became aware of her singing talent when she was as young as three years old.

Her teacher Mr. Frank heard her sing and told her that she has a great voice. We need more teachers like him. If it was in the US she would have been exposed to singing shows like ‘Americas got talent‘ or ‘The voice’ but this is Africa, you have to work extra hard here.

She later started learning to play the guitar and finally, Sauti music academy and youtube academy saw her talent.

As Kenyans, I think I speak for everyone when I say we miss the flavor of good R&B music like the likes of Marry J Blidge, Brandy, and Kelly Rowland. Phy quenched our thirst five years ago with her song “Taboo (taabu)”.

If you love good music this is your jam. It has countless covers (that’s when you know you are good).

According to her, she had an unexpected reaction to the song as she had just written it as an assignment in music class. A great composer we have to hear Kenyans.

Her singing is a combination of afro-pop with R&B and HIP HOP; this made her release an extended playlist called philosophy and later released an album called biography in 2018.

She had also attained fame by being in a music film called mission on earth by Nyando and this propelled her to be among the speakers of the UN, We are proud of you Phy.

Then what’s wrong?

With that exceptional talent of hers, we expected Phy to be on levels where she received lots of international awards or doing collaborations with lots of other famous artists because most of her songs deserve it.

The song “Ruka“ where she featured king kaka and Khaligraph Jones gives everything. The singing skill, playing the guitar, and composing are totally underrated music management or is it the fan base failing her.

There is something broken in the entertainment industry that we urgently need to fix.
I know someday things will turn around and this beautiful talented lady will get the credit she deserves.

However not all times and sometimes it reaches a point that these celebrities can’t stand each other. In this context, we will be looking into Kenyan musicians who can’t stand each other.

That’s when you know it’s serious. The fandoms don’t make things better and keep adding fuel to the already burning fire.

The following are some of the Kenyan artists that cannot stand each other and why.

1. Bahati Vs Willy Paul.

This feud started long when they were both gospel artists. Kelvin Mbuvi Kioko (Bahati) and Wilson Abubakar Radido (Willy Paul) found themselves in conflicts they couldn’t get out from.

The reasons are the same each of them claiming they are better artists than the other. Bahati complained a couple of times that Willy Paul has stolen a lot of his songs accusations that Willy Paul aggressively denied.

They both moved to secular music right now and now competitions are bigger than those two. They have been spotted on various occasions but it looks like the feud is gone. Or is it?

2. Jaguar vs Ringtone Apoko

Charles Njagua Kanyi also known as Jaguar became famous after his hit song KIGEUGEU became everyone’s favorite song back in 2011.

If we are being clear this song made him rich to the point he bought his own helicopter. In the year 2017, he got into politics and became a member of parliament representing Starehe in Nairobi.

I want whatever prayer this guy says before going to bed. He got into conflict with the gospel artist Alex Apoko, who fasted for three days just as most believers do.

The problem arose when Jaguar mocked that Apoko that he fasted so he could get a range rover car like Jaguar after He was blocked by Jaguar on the road.

Very unnecessary! Ringtone has had fights with various other people so he tells you much about the guy. It has been six years since the incident and I hope they’ve moved on.

3. Khaligraph Jones vs Octopizzo

You can’t list names of Kenyan greatest artists without naming Khaligraph jones, the lyrics and wordplay are fire.

He’s a very proud man who is self-aware of the impact of his music and if you listen to his song you might as well agree with him. It all began when Khaligraph Jones pointed a middle finger at Henry Obanga (Octopizzo) who has won various awards in Kenya as a sign of insulting him.

Octopizzo gave a comeback claiming that none of his songs would have trended if he hadn’t used his name (Octopizzo) in his songs. The feud seems to be dividing the fans as they are both very talented artists.

4. Njeri vs Femi one

Rapper Femi one who made our pandemic less boring by releasing an epic song “Utawezana” got into conflict with another female rapper Patricia Njeri.

They both disclosed to the public that they hated each other. No beating around the bush. This dispute began when the artist Juliani asked who was the king on his song Lord forgive me dragging everyone.

From then lady Njeri dropped a song “No king” when she practically dragged all artists who call themselves king and in it Femi got a special treatment of drag saying that her song Brikicho was overrated. Femi also released the song “Pilau Njeri” and it was like adding petrol to a burning bush.

5. Otile brown vs Vera Sidika

There is a very thin line between love and hate, this saying was meant for these cute love birds. They spoiled each other with all kinds of romance and made sure we all saw.

There have been little conflicts where they both deleted all photos on social media. I lost count of the number of times they broke up and got back together.

One of those breakups was the final one. It was one of that dirty and embarrassing breaks up where they both exposed each other Vera claiming that Otile is poor in bed and the likes.

Vera released a song ‘Nalia’ of which most of the fans perceived was dedicated to Otile. They were all toxic to each other. Vera is now married and has a child but I highly doubt if they can still be friends with Otile.

H_art the Band; the name sound poetic right? These amazing artists put serious thoughts into the band’s name and came up with something magical.

In short, H_art is the combination of the words heart and art with an underscore as the bridge between the words. it simply means their hearts are connected by their art.

They truly deserve the name and their growing chemistry and talent prove it. When they perform live, you have to be touched somehow with their astounding voices.

They don’t need to auto-tune; auto-tune needs them. They literally own the stage. So with this, I say natural talent has to be one of the reasons keeping H_art glued together.

Know the members and their undeniable chemistry

What makes the band stand for almost ten years without falling apart; is it the management or the chemistry and attachment they have towards one another.

They met in 2012 along the corridors of KNT cancer awareness and things just hit off from there.

None knew the other could sing, not until Mordecai started singing to Kenneth’s guitar and that’s when the name H_art the band came from.

The members of this iconic band are Mordecai Mwini, Wachira Gatama, and Kenneth Muya. I call them the three musicteers. Not that this is related but do you think the same thing would’ve happened in case the members mentioned were women? Chemistry could be the key.

H_art the Band GOAT music

No matter what taste or genre of music you love, hart the band is involved. This band has been ranked as one of the great bands ever in Kenya and East Africa.

Bands have been breaking up but these have lasted persevered and managed to offer us the best music our ears could hope for. They deserve the Africa music award (AFRIMA) they got in 2015 on the hit called NIKIKUTAZAMA (when I look at you).

That was just the beginning of the musical bulb and it got brighter leaving a marking history for every following track. A memorable one is ULIZA KIATU, which got a lot of positive responses from the male gender.

The song ‘Uliza Kiatu‘ translates ‘ask my shoe’, which simply means that men undergo a lot of difficulties that are overlooked and underrated especially by ungrateful women but you can only know these hardships if you walk on their shoe. A bit dramatic don’t you think? Anyway, I adored this song and it deserved all the publicity it got.

In the historical year 2020 when we were all sad and depressed due to the families and jobs we have lost, H_art the band blessed our ears with the song EL SHADAAI which comforted our souls and made us on the good things that God has done for us despite the difficult times we face.

When I tell you this song was in all WhatsApp statuses of Kenya, all media channels and it was number one trending on YouTube for a good number of weeks.

Everyone despite religion or tribe just loved the song. It speaks volumes about you when you can make people from different cultures love your art. Big up H_art!

Currently, h_art the band is rocking with the track MY JABER which is one Of the greatest hits in 2021. You can’t fail to like it.

Why did he swap from gospel to secular music?

It’s a very rare occasion where a gospel artist swaps to different kinds of music flavours. Most of the time it’s due to the larger audience and better market that is present in the other kinds of music like hip-hop, R&B compared to the gospel.

It’s nothing personal just business. In one of the interviews, Willy Paul confessed that his decision to swap was mainly because of how his fellow artists have always been against him and he received a lot of hate and how his gospel music wasn’t good enough.

This made him break and broke to the point he became depressed for months. When he was tired of feeling pity for himself he decided to take a U-turn that changed his life.

As a result of these actions, he was often criticized as a man who sold his soul. This is Kenya you have to pick and choose once you are a gospel singer you are already in it. The double standard in this is that secular artists are free to sing gospel or once in a while. Welcome to the confusing world!

Willy Paul; scandals attached to the name.

There are many scandals on Willy Paul and as you must have guessed many involve the ladies. However, the most recent is shocking. The lady who is no longer signee under the label Saldido; Miss P who has done collaborations with Willy on liar and fall in love reveled in her interviews on how willy has been sexually harassing her.

There were a lot of reactions some said it’s due to clout and they were about to release a song; others said it because she wants a pity party but when she said even lawyers had to get involved for her to be able to leave Saldido without any charges that’s when I knew shit is serious.

Pozee who is married to a Jamaican lady and has a bouncing baby boy has been facing many allegations and after a time, even as fans, we get tired of defending him. However, since he’s so good at what he does music, his private life besides music is often overlooked. No man is perfect, but if you’re a famous artist you got to try!

Pozee; Are his collaborations better than his singles?

I guess when you are a great artist more people automatically become against you. It’s like the famous saying ‘you’ll show haters how your dog walks on water and they’ll ask why it can’t swim. Songs like ‘Jigi jigi’  that he didn’t collaborate with anyone did very great and stayed on top charts in most east African countries for weeks.

Also, collaborations have done well as well including the one he did with Alaine ‘yes I do’ or ‘Njiwa and ‘Hallelujah’ with the African princess from Tanzania Nandy.

Without forgetting the song ‘Mhhh’ he collaborated with RayVanny from Tanzania. Why then does this happen? My theory is he’s a great artist and everything he touches becomes gold, collaboration or not. We’ve seen a couple of collaborations flops, so people should move on from that notion.

10. Nviiri The Storyteller – Kitenge

This star who made everyone turn to him due to his song ‘Pombe Sigara’ can also agree that this year was bliss for him.

We felt he would stop at his ‘Extravaganza’ collaboration or perhaps let us breathe after ‘Bar’ he did with Femi one.

But this man said none of you is ready for me, before releasing ‘Kitenge’ earlier this year which has almost a million views on YouTube. He was right; none of us was ready.

9. Khaligraph Jones ft. The industry – Luku

Brian Robert Ouko famous as Khaligraph Jones is a talented rapper in East Africa. What makes this man stand out is his massive ability to maintain the same energy in the music industry.

This year was no exception when he blessed us with ‘Luku’. Luku is the system of subscribing electrical power units in accordance with the money and use.

Hip-hop is full of metaphors and that’s exactly what Khaligraph Jones has done in this song. It’s seven minutes long so believe me when I say the man has content. Join the 1.3 viewers on YouTube and have blast.

8. Bahati feat. Sat-B – Sweet darling

This is one of the few artists whose talent is not limited by the type of music. Be it gospel or R&B; Bahati your man.

The song ‘Nikumbushe’ he sang with a Tanzania artist Rayvanny about asking God to remind him where he is from in case he gets arrogant, made me rethink if we have the same creator for voices.

This year about four months ago he did it again and blessed us with ‘sweet darling’ and can make you in love the first time you hear it. I with more than 2 million other viewers did in fact fall in love; with the song of course.

7. Nikita Kering’ – EX

This 19-year-old princess has managed to drop all our jaws with her amazing, singing and songwriting talent.

You heard me right, she’s just 19. Don’t ask me what I was doing when I was at that age! It’s no surprise she has been nominated for 3 Afrima awards as a best female artist in Eastern Africa, songwriter of the year, and best artist, best artist duo, or group.

Voting begins tomorrow On the 19th so you know what to do. She deserves this. The lyrics and the singing of the song ‘Ex’ are just sick!

6. Nadia Mukami ft. Otile Brown – Kolo

This songwriter and great singer has stood out among the few Kenyan female artists. She did great on the song ‘We ni Nani‘ featuring the legend Sanapei Tande, this song got her deals and media tours locally and internationally.

However, ‘Kolo’ is a whole new other level and the collaboration with Otile is just everything.

It’s no surprise it has hit almost 5 million views. Kolo is a street slang meaning someone who is senseless. So who is the Kolo in her song, what did the Kolo do? Listen to this marvelous song and tell me what you think.

5. H_art the Band – My jabber feat. Brizy Annechild

2020 will always be a memorable one worldwide. For us Kenyans, it’s due to two reasons the COVID-19 and the song ‘El-Shaddai’.

My interest in the band multiplied then, the song became as popular as the national anthem and it got every credit it got. It was one of the songs that you know have hit the peak and they could only go downhill from there.

Mejja is one of the few artists that have managed to stay constant for a very long time.

Have you ever loved someone to the point you are just rigid to any advice? ‘Siskii’ means “I’m not listening” and if you’ve been at a point where you listen to one this song is for you.

Mejja is the king of relatable if you ask me because if you listen to the track ‘Tabia za Wakenya’ he literally outed every Kenyan out there. Big up Mejja!

3. Bensoul – Nairobi

This is the type of song that you listen to the audio and it’s so good and then you watch the video and understand why it got over 6.5 million views.

Bensoul succeeded in making all of Kenyans sing the song ‘Nairobi’ that he released just at the beginning of this year, the new year’s gift.

Perhaps it’s because many people relate to it since it speaks of scenarios where a guy sends transport fare but the lady doesn’t show up or you send money to the love of your life and they send it to theirs.

One of the funny tragedies of life if you ask me. The collaboration with Sauti Sol, Nviiri the storyteller, and Mejja just made the piece mind-blowing.

2. Otile brown ft. Alikiba – In love

These two musical gods left everyone speechless after the release of this jaw-dropping song with about nine million views on Youtube.

This masterpiece ‘In love’ has been on multiple video and radio charts for months. The only debate is who killed it better. Is it the king from the land of Nyerere; Alikiba or Legendary Otile the multi-award and multitalented singer from +254?

It’s like having Messi and CR7 in one team. I wouldn’t want to be on the other team.

1. Willy Paul – Liar

Show me a Kenyan who doesn’t love this guy’s music and I’ll show you a short camel? This must have been a very busy year for this Kenyan artist.

First, we know Willy Paul has never disappointed us in all the collaborations he did with the ladies from Alaine (Kenyan), Nandy (Tanzanian), and this year it was Miss p who literally sounds like a bird.

It was hard to decide which collaboration was their best because both fall in love and Liar but liar has got more positive feedback from the public with almost 10million views so Liar wins.

Wouldn’t the world just be a better place if those are the only wars we ever had were as entertaining?

Kenya was represented by rappers and other singers from different duos, bands, and radio stations all over east Africa who played their songs. (YouTube view was a thing by then). It wasn’t surprising finding more than half of the ten weekly charts were from +254.

I feel like we are forgetting the impact of these legendary musicians and their music on our lives.

The following are the Kenyan old legends who shook the music internationally but are now not rocking in the industry either due to changes in occupations, crazy ongoing competition in the music industry, or requirements the target and requirement for good music.

Not me though, I’d give anything just to listen to these musical legends sing again.

1. NAMELESS

His parents named him David Mathege; this guy made us sing the ‘lyrics’ from his great love song ‘NASINZIA’. For those who were schooling during those days.

If a boy wrote this in the letters with the lyrics as his dedication, you just know he’s the one. That right there is true love. I don’t know what was with the old school songs, they just never get outdated.

2. JUA CALI (Paul Julius Nunda)

First time I heard his name I used direct translation from Kiswahili and thought it meant “ hot sun”. You thought so too didn’t you? Well turns out it’s not Jua Cali is the short form of means to know about California which is the estate he grew up on the east side of Nairobi.

Either way, the hot sun fitted him perfectly on how his music and appearance were both on fire. Growing up in the city it wasn’t as hard for him to become successful.

One of the songs that still puts me to sleep is KWAHERI meaning “goodbye” which he sang with the artist Sana.

In the year 2000 his fame multiplied when he and the music produce Clemo, together with Nonini opened a music studio with the name Calif records.

3. NONINI

Hurbert Mbuku Nakitare famous as Nonini is a very handsome humble guy with an impeccable voice.

As an artist and a radio presenter, he was one of the founders of Genge music with his friend Jua Cali (mentioned above).

Hits like KADHAA can never be forgotten by us. Earlier this year, he released a song called LEVELS which is great but it doesn’t hit the same.

4. LONGOMBAZ.

This duo comprised of two brothers Christian and Lovy Longomba. Yes, they are related to the Congolese singer Awilo Longomba and ever their grandfather was a member of a Jazz Band called TPOK.

I guess music just runs in their blood. Songs like VUTA PUMZI and QUEEN are still on my mind.

The brothers suddenly relocated to the us where they practiced their music. Christian Longomba passed on 3rd March this year and Lovy Longomba has changed his name to Lovy Elias. He is now a pastor. I guess even good things such as their music; do come to an end.

5. CECILIA WAIRIMU(AMANI)

This queen was the only artist from Kenya who was in the one 8 projects which involved artists from all over Africa with Robert Kelly with the song “HANDS ACROSS THE WORLD”.

If that doesn’t speak volumes I don’t know what else does. Oh! Wait I do, her phenomenal song BAD BOY Featuring Nyashiski or perhaps MISSING MY BABY.

The song TONIGHT hits all the right places. Her latest song called My God was released in 2018 which made me believe she falling into gospel music but we haven’t heard anything since then. We miss you, Amani!

Why do you think legends are getting forgotten and not as appreciated as they were before?

This Kenyan band from Nairobi has exceptional singers who are very smart by the way (they all have undergraduate degrees) that have been on everyone’s lips and head for the past decade.

Like most bands, west life from Ireland, one direction from England, and BTS from south Korea, everyone especially International fans are always curious to know who is who.

Telling people apart might be tricky but not to worry; today I got all of you covered. We are going to name each and everyone and describe them so that you get to know them better individually. No matter how clueless you are of this majestic band I’m sure you’ve never failed to hear their masterpiece song “Short and Sweet” from somewhere.

Meet Bien-Aimé Baraza

He is the easiest to be distinguished from all the band members. Being the group’s vocalist and lead singer, you can easily notice him in the verses and choruses of many Sauti Sol songs. His exceptional tall height (six feet and some good inches) and his baldness set him apart from the rest of the members.

His song featuring a pianist Aaron Rimbui; “bald men love better” couldn’t explain things better. Now a man like that couldn’t possibly be single. He’s happy in an open marriage with his wife who is a professional dancer called Chiki. You read me right! Open marriage.

Africa being Africa there was a lot of talk on their relationship but they haven’t disclosed any more information regarding the matter. If it’s true I guess not all hope is lost, there might be a chance for some ladies.

Know about Willis Austin Chimano

In addition to being a vocalist and saxophonist. If you’ve listened to songs from the band you’ll notice his voice bass is quite unique from others. He’s easily striking due to his impeccable fashion sense.

Also, he has pretty piercings on his eyebrows nose, and ears. Although he has confessed to being socially awkward in many interviews; you possibly can’t see that from his laugh. Marvel should snatch him for a villain role due to that evil laugh.

His heavenly voice can be heard in his acoustic ‘feel my love’, his bass being from another level. He received a lot of hate from some of his fans after there were allegations of him being gay.

He never confirmed this but never denied it either. There was a roar on social media after the Sauti sol posted the picture last year and Chimano was with a Caucasian male beside him. Chimano however is currently single.

Ever heard of Delvin Mudigi (Savara)?

The drummer boy. Being able to sing while playing instruments, that’s my definition of talent. Don’t get me started on his phenomenal voice. He has well-groomed locks that he normally holds into a puff. He’s humorous and keeps throwing banters at his fellows.

He has revealed in multiple interviews that he was always a difficult child and even got into fights multiple times although he’s past that, and a better boy now. I believe him.

Who wouldn’t believe that bass guitarist, producer with so much talent and potential? Currently, the artist is dating Yvonne Endo and they seem pretty happy.

Polycarp Otieno (Fancy fingers)

This is the group guitarist and composer. He has spectacles mostly but you can tell him apart from Bien because he isn’t as tall and possesses these flawless beards.

His love for his guitar or Cecilia as he calls her has been for a very long time ever since he’s was a boy. He workouts often making his body in a frame that is desirable for most men his age.

Fancy Fingers is married to a Burundian queen called Mandy and they look quite inseparable. He’s the least famous than other members probably because he rarely sings but his talent in playing the guitar cannot be ignored in most songs good example being “Susanna”.

To be honest; he’s my bias when speaking of Kenyan artists. Is it because of his phenomenal music that keeps ringing in your ears hours after the song is done or is it he’s the real definition of hard work pays off and the guru of ‘never give up?

Our ears were blessed to hear him for the first time around 1999 (generation Zs would never get it) on great hits like BAD BOY where he was featured by Amani. Obviously, we all wanted to know who is this guy that why was he distracting everyone else more and that’s when his talent made him bloom more.

However, if you’ve been in the industry for a long time you will know it’s never just about talent and for a moment after long silence; we all believed Nyashiski is gone; personally I grieved.

Maybe he thought so too because for about ten years he was in the United States, doing something else with his life. But a lion never forgets to hunt and we were fools to even think a musical genius like him could somehow be gone.

His comeback is as merciless as it was a blessing. Nigga literally said Sike! to all of us. Who knew he was the music messiah we needed at that exact time? All was well though; his seat was never taken. Only his head could fit that music crown.

Deep down we all thought he was going to leave again. It’s not something new to happen. Someone comes in with the greatest hit and then just disappears and you all wonder what the hell happened. Not this GOAT though, this time he was here to stay and none of us were ready; not only Kenyans but also east and central Africa.

His song MALAIKA was on repeat on everyone’s phone, a hit on all weddings and ceremonies. The question on everyone’s tongue was “who is this Rastafarian and where has been all our lives?” and he was accurate in describing himself ‘fundi’ of his career.

He’s what our ears needed for a long time and some and he confessed in his song GOAT saying “industry ilikua flat kila vital sign, tu-agree kuwa comeback yangu ilikuwa right time.” We had no idea what this meant until everyone’s radio played the song “MUNGU PEKEE” meaning only God on every Sunday morning. Artists sang then as a hobby he made turn music into a business.

What’s outstanding about this guy is not only his masterpieces of music; it’s how he separates his music from his personal life. Reporters are working overtime on this one.

The only scandal we get lucky to hear is what is on his next hit. His fellow artists can’t get enough of him and there always trying to add his flavor and some of the extraordinary collaborations include TUJIANGALIE with Sauti Sol, IN CASE YOU DON’T KNOW with a Tanzanian singer Juma Jux. This nigga has no genre or type be it ghetto, gospel, love whatever he touches turns into gold.

You ever listen to a song and you say “this song has a great beat but the lyrics are just garbage”? I dare you to listen to any song from this man and get anything other than pure gold.

This guy has given us everything we need for every mood we feel and it’s just bliss. You can dance when high and still manage to enjoy it at your lowest moment.
