Nigerian dancehall singer, Timaya has disclosed how he linked up with BNXN and how the new school singer loves food.

In an interview with Gucci and Gigi of Coolfm, the “Cold Outside” crooner opened up on his career, life and the Grammy.

Timaya shared how he recorded one of the biggest songs of 2021, “Cold Outside” with BNXN (Buju), recalling how they met and how he has always loved him.

He stated that the first time he heard BNXN’s voice was when Ladipoe dropped their 2021 collaboration, “Feeling“.

“I was in America on time, I heard ehm Buju and this rapper guy, Ladipoe, sometimes I cal him Poe Poe (laughs). You know their song ‘I like the way am feeling’, that was my biggest song , so I loved it. So i got back from the states, i was jamming it to Willie, ‘Willie have you heard this song, that’s my tune.’

So we went out, went to one lounge and someone disrespected me, i just got angry and was like let’s go home. So i got into my car and everybody was telling me ‘I’m so proud of you’, you just left’. You know where men are, things go happen.

So I was really upset and Willie was like, ‘I don’t like Papi to feel like this, he na called Buju. So Buju now came to another place where we were, when Buju came I was like ‘ahn ahn’, you know the shock, I was excited, I was a fan, the first he said to me was ‘Papi, I’ve been wanting to work with you, let’s go into the studio,’ that how we got into the studio.

He also disclosed BNXN’s love for food and which motivates him to work better. Timaya explains how BNXN came up with a verse after eating nourishing “Pepper Soup”,

“I Didn’t Know Buju Likes Food oooo, I didn’t know he was a foodie like me.”.

Timaya stated that Buju and the late Kefee are the only people whose voices have gotten to him.

Nonetheless, Timaya describes passion as the driving force behind his music career spanning over two decades.

Today makes it four years since Nigeria lost one of its best R’n’B artists, OJB Jezreel to the hands of death. Also, June 12th was also the death anniversary of gospel artiste, Kefee.

For this list, we won’t be mentioning songs from music icons like Christy Essien, Ras Kimono, Majek Fashek, Oliver de Coque, Fela Kuti, Sir Warrior, Osita Osadebe and the rest.

5. MC Loph feat. Flavour – Osondi Owendi

Mc Loph was a rapper who died in a tragic accident while en route to his hometown for his traditional marriage in 2011.

Mc Loph broke into the music with his cover of Late Osita Osadebe‘s hit song, “Osondi Owendi”. In the song, he features his friend, Flavour. The song was a massive hit, especially among the Igbo tribe.

4. KEFEE Ft Timaya – Kokoroko

Kefee was a popular Gospel artiste, who came into the music scene with ‘Brahama” and died in 2014 from lung failure. She enlisted the help of fellow South-South artiste, Timaya to deliver her best song ever, “Kokoroko”.

3. Goldie – You know it

Goldie was seen as Nigerian Lady Gaga and released songs that differentiated her from any other female singers. Goldie was not just a singer but a fashion icon. She died in 2013 from hypertensive heart disease.

Goldie released hits like “Jawo Jawo”, “Say my name”, “Don’t touch my body” but this writer thinks that her best song was “You Know It” featuring Eldee de don.

2. DaGrin – Pon Pon

DaGrin is seen as the artist that brought Yoruba rap to the forefront. The rapper brought with him cultural reset which is unforgettable. His most successful song, “Pon Pon” was a massive hit that saw him topping English rappers in Nigeria. He died in 2010 from a tragic accident.

1.OJB Jezreel – Searching

OJB was a singer, songwriter and record producer. The versatile artiste had worked with a different range of artistes in Nigeria. He died in 2016 from Kidney disease.

OJB‘s memorable song of all time is “Searching” where he showed his R ‘n’ B prowess.

Today on Mp3bullet throwback music, we bring you ‘Kokoroko’ by two legends Kefee featuring Timaya.

In think this throwback serves as tribute and  probably another remembrance to late Niger Delta Queen of Branama, Kefee whom passed out few years. Kefee Obareki Don Momoh died of lung failure at a hospital in Los Angeles, California on June 12, 2014.

This is a massive throwback.

“Nigeria’s favourite gospel female artiste Kefee, is back with a new tune titled, ‘Dem Go Talk’. The artiste who recently graduated from a film school in the U.S. has wasted no time in continuing with her music career and this new track attests to that.

‘Dem Go Talk’ was produced by Teekay Witty and Kefee had this to say about the song: “You realize that a lot of people get affected by what other people say about them. I wrote this song to encourage them not to lose sleep over what others think about them because people must talk just like we must eat breathe and laugh, it’s just a part of life. Dem go talk but no mind them!’’, she said.”
