The top 20 global recording artists of the year were announced by the IFPI in an official post on February 22, 2023.

The Top 20 Global Recording Artists for 2022 have been revealed by the organization that represents the recorded music business globally, the IFPI. For the third time in the award’s ten-year history, Taylor Swift was named the 2022 Global Recording Artist of the Year by the IFPI.

The award is determined by how well an artist or group performed globally over the year across all of their music releases, both digital and physical. Taylor Swift has received more IFPI World Recording Artist Awards than any other artist during the course of the award’s ten-year history. She presently holds the distinction from 2014, 2019, and 2022.

After back-to-back victories in 2020 and 2021, BTS places second, marking their third consecutive year in the Top 3, while Drake places third, marking his sixth Top 3 appearance since the Chart’s inception.

“It is a great pleasure to award the IFPI Global Recording Artist Award to Taylor Swift for an unprecedented third time in the chart’s ten-year history,” says Frances Moore, Chief Executive at IFPI. “Taylor is a truly magnificent international star who continues to grow and evolve as an artist whilst maintaining an incredibly strong connection with her fans around the world.”

The first Latin American artist to reach the Top 5 and the highest place for a Spanish-language performer, Bad Bunny of Puerto Rico, came in at position four.

Jay Chou, whose fame has endured throughout China and Southeast Asia, became the first Taiwanese musician to feature on the List at number nine.

Moreover, South Korean performers had a strong year, with more musicians from their country breaking into the Top 10 than any other nation.

BTS was joined by SEVENTEEN and Stray Kids, charting at six and seven, respectively. The UK was represented on the Chart by Harry Styles and Ed Sheeran (at positions 8 and 10 respectively), while Canadian artist The Weeknd peaked at position 5.

Micheal Jackson

Michael Jackson is a well-known American singer, dancer, and composer whose legacy is still felt in the music industry. During his lifetime, Michael Jackson was dubbed the “King of Pop.”

The singer, dancer, and lyricist died of heart arrest in June 2009, although he continues to earn money on an annual basis. In 2016, he received $825 million, making him the highest-paid dead or alive celebrity of the year. According to Forbes, he earned $75 million in 2021.

Bob Marley

Robert Nesta Marley A.K.A Bob Marley is a reggae singer and songwriter from Jamaica. He built a name for himself in the 1970s before passing away in 1981 after a protracted fight with cancer.

He’s still making money four decades after his death, and he’s appeared on Forbes’ list of highest-paid dead celebrities several times. As of 2021, he earned 16 million dollars (6.5 billion naira). His last words to his son Ziggy before his death, according to reports, were “money can’t buy life.”

Juice WRLD

Higgins, best known by his stage name Juice WRLD, was a rapper, singer, and songwriter from the United States. In 2019, he died at Chicago’s Midway International Airport from a heroin overdose. In 2021, he earned $15 million.

Luther Vandross

Luther Vandross was an American record producer, performer, and composer who passed away in July 2005 after suffering a stroke. Years have passed after his death, yet he continues to work. In 2021, he earned $21 million.

Elvis Presley

Elvis Aaron Presley was a well-known American singer and actor during the 1960s and 1970s. Back in the day, Elvis was dubbed the “King of Rock and Roll.” Due to heart illness, he died in August 1977. He still made $30 million in 2021, four decades after his death.

Bing Crosby

Bing Crosby was an American singer and actor who died in 1977 after a heart attack. He was one of the most well-known and influential musicians of his generation.

He is still earning after more than four decades have passed after his death. In 2021, he earned $33 million.

Prince

Prince Rogers Nelson was a well-known American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor who died of a fentanyl overdose in April 2016. Prince is still making millions of dollars five years after his death. He earned 120 million dollars (49.2 billion naira) in 2021, according to Forbes.

Nigerian singer, Buju has given a detailed explanation of how he and Timaya made their hit track, ‘Cold Outside‘.

A fan on Twitter with the username @_ahmaaad_ had earlier enquired of the singer how both artistes thought of doing a song together.

He wrote; “How did Buju and Timaya think of doing a collabo. It’s mad sha.

In response to this, Buju narrated that the producer of their collaboration, Yung Willis reached out to him saying Timaya wanted to see him.

He explained that when he went over to Timaya’s lounge, Timaya shared how he reminded him of the late Juice Wrld and how he’s the best singer.

Furthering their connection, he was invited to the Dem Mama’s boss house of which he was served pepper soup and started singing.
