Sevilla have sacked their second manager of the season, with Jorge Sampaoli departing for a second time.

The Argentinean manager succeeded Julen Lopetegui in October and was able to achieve steady advancements through the end of February.

A perfect 2023 home record was ended by Osasuna, after which Sevilla won twice and lost on three occasions.

Sampaoli managed 31 games in all, with 13 victories, 6 draws, and 12 defeats. While Sampaoli managed to get them through PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce in the Europa League, where they now play Manchester United, they were defeated by Osasuna in the Copa del Rey.

Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli has explained why former Real Madrid player Isco’s contract, which was set to expire in 2024, has already been terminated.

Sevilla confirmed on Wednesday that they have mutually terminated the contract of the 30-year-old midfielder and he will be a free agent.

After being lured by former manager Julen Lopetegui, who was ousted in early October and replaced by Sampaoli, the playmaker signed with the Andalusian team in the summer.

Isco fell down the pecking order under the new manager and the tactician has revealed that he was allowed to leave as he “failed to meet expectations”.

“Isco is a great boy and I wish him the best. He leaves a player who has great capacity, but he did not meet the club’s expectations,” the Argentine coach said after his team’s 3-0 victory in the Copa del Rey against Juventud de Torremolinos.

It is understood that Isco had a frosty relationship with Sevilla’s director of football Monchi, and was training alone — reportedly due to an ankle issue — prior to the World Cup break. He had a stellar start to his career in Malaga and shone for Madrid between 2012-2017.

However, injuries and poor form saw him fall out of favour with Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, and Isco left Santiago Bernabeu after a nine-year stay in the summer.

The LaLiga team announced on Thursday that Argentine Jorge Sampaoli has been appointed as Sevilla’s new manager. Sampaoli replaces the fired Julen Lopetegui and has been given a contract through June 2024.

After being destroyed 4-1 at home by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage, Sevilla fired Lopetegui on Wednesday.

Sampaoli will be working with the record-setting six-time Europa League champions, who have had a difficult start to the season with just one victory across all competitions.

Their worst start to a league season since being promoted back to the top flight in 2001 finds them in 17th place in LaLiga with five points, one spot and one point above the relegation zone.

Furious supporters who had high hopes after Sevilla finished fourth last season after competing with Real Madrid for the title for the majority of the season have questions for the club’s board.

“Sevilla FC and Jorge Sampaoli have reached an agreement for the Argentine coach to become the new coach of the first team… He signed a contract until June 30, 2024,” the club said in a statement.

After guiding Marseille to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 and Champions League qualification last season, Sampaoli left the club in July because he was dissatisfied with the club’s transfer activity.

Sampaoli, who led Chile to their first Copa America title in 2015, had a turbulent first stint at Seville in 2016-17.

With a club record 42 points in the first half of the season, Sevilla had a fantastic start and eventually finished fourth.

They reached the Champions League last 16 where they were eliminated by Leicester City.
