Believe it or not, Burna Boy triumph won at the 63rd ceremony of the Grammy Awards, with his album Twice as Tall on the Best Global Music Album opened door to other Nigerian artistes and help introduce new listeners to Afrobeat.

However, it is his first GRAMMY win in his career, Burna Boy was the first winner of the newly renamed Best World category, which was previously known as Best World.

Also, many people associate Afrobeat with the audacious, flaming, talented multi-instrumentalist and founder of the genre, Fela Kuti.

The Grammy Award is a household name in the United States, It was made to honour American music, not to please the entire globe.

While the category of ‘Best World Music Album’ may be exclusive and make the Grammys appear snobbish, it has also served a purpose that centres on the global music community.

African performers are dissatisfied with the elitism of the Grammy Awards.

The argument for altering the name of the award to “Best World Music Album” is that the word “world” implies that America is not only apart from the rest of the world, but also superior to it.

Burna Boy signed with Bad Habit/Atlantic Records, where it all started in 2017, on this notation, we’ll highlight the records that edge him towards the threshold of the biggest afrobeat artiste of this generation.

Burna Boy released his fourth studio album titled African Giant on July 26, 2019, by Atlantic Records, Warner Music and Spaceship Entertainment.

The album features guest appearances from Damian Marley, Jeremih, Jorja Smith, Future, Zlatan Ibile, and others.

Pop Smoke – Faith 

Faith is the second posthumous studio album by American rapper Pop Smoke, It was released through Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records on July 16, 2021, four days before what would have been the rapper’s 22nd birthday.

Burna Boy celebrated the one year anniversary of his Grammy nominated album, African Giant on his social media.

The “Odogwu” singer wrote,

“AFRICAN GIANT IS 1 TODAY!! A few streams off a billion across all platforms. The journey has been crazy! You’ve all become family and we’ve made history together! Sold out shows worldwide, awards, and most importantly, the lives that have been impacted by the music!
Don’t get comfortable though, I’m coming back TWICE AS TALL”

Burna Boy released African Giant in 2019 as his fourth studio album. The album features guest appearances from Jorja Smith, Jeremih, Damian Marley, Future, and Zlatan.

It was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.  The album’s title was derived from Burna Boy’s infamous outburst at Coachella‘s organizers regarding the placement of his name in a small font.

The album currently has more than 300 Million streams on Spotify, more than 200 Million streams on Apple Music, more than 300 Million streams on Youtube. The album is the first African album to surpass more than 200 Million streams on Spotify in less than a year.

The singer is set to release his fifth studio album, “Twice as Tall” soon.

Grammy Award-nominated Afro-fusion singer, Burna Boy kicks off 2020 with the release of the visuals for ‘Secret’ Music Video.

He featured American singer/rapper, Jeremih as well as Jamaican dancehall singer, Serani.

After being celebrated for its social conscious undertones, Burna’s fourth solo album, ‘African Giant’ is given more range with the video for ‘Secret’, the trio scoring impressively.

Like the provocative nature of the track built on heavy references, the video takes on a nocturnal theme that allows Burna Boy, Jeremih and Serani bask in the sensuality of steamy lyrics, visualized in even more expressive scenes.

Lyrically, the song attempts to coax/cajole a seemingly unsatisfied married man’s secret lover into keeping their love affair a secret, her ambition to want to be his wife and spend more time with him nonetheless.

Shot by David Camarena, the video is set in an old vintage house with neon-soaked lights, generally depicting their “secret” getaway spot, where they unrestrictedly express their impermissible affection for each other.
