JJC Skillz

Popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, got married to well-known Nigerian rapper JJC Skillz in 2016 after she broke up with her ex-husband in 2012.

Their marriage which has since been blessed with twins hit the rocks in 2022 due to irreconcilable differences. JJC in an Instagram post revealed that the two of them have been living separately for a while.

Wizkid

Wizkid, the self-described Starboy and Soundman, has been in a number of relationships since his debut in 2009.

The first of these relationships was with the actress Sophie Alakija, who used to be known as Sophie Rammal at the time.

When they were both still establishing themselves in their own industries in 2011, they began dating. In 2010, Sophie appeared in the music video for Wizkid’s debut hit, “Holla at your boy.”

Iceberg Slim

The affair between Iceberg Slim and Nollywood actress Juliet Ibrahim was a hot topic at the time, with many accusing the rapper of being a parasite trying to feed off Juliet Ibrahim.

The couple was outspoken about their union. They also posted photographs all over social media, whetting blogs’ appetites for the most recent information on the relationship.

Things later went sour for the couple and they had to call it quits following news that the “Too much money” crooner cheated on her.

Timaya

high profile Dem Mama boss Timaya was not left out of the fun, as he dated gorgeous Nollywood actress Empress Njamah from 2008 to 2009. However, things rapidly turned sour for the couple as they exchanged cruel remarks on social media.

Timaya referred to Njamah as a “thief” and said that her criminal history had an impact on him. Additionally, he returned the car he had purchased for her on the grounds that it had been a gift from another woman, who had demanded its return after learning that Timaya had given it to the Empress.

In addition, Empress Njamah expressed her disgust for the “I Can not Kill Myself” singer, claiming that dating him was the worst experience of her life.

Iyanya

The musician, who is recognised as one of the hottest guys in entertainment, called it quits with stunning Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson in 2012.

According to Yvonne Nelson, she adored the musician, but he crushed her heart, and she will never date another Nigerian man again.

Iyanya, on the other hand, acknowledged that it was a trying time for him because he was unable to do some things, like make music, but he has come to terms with it.

According to reports, the pair split up because Iyanya did not devote enough attention to her. He later dated Tonto Dikeh, which caused Yvonne Nelson to become very angry.

Don Jazzy

When Tonto Dikeh was clearly fresh in the entertainment business, Don Jazzy was the first entertainer to date her. After a few years, Tonto Dikeh and Don Jazzy had to part ways. Social media was rife with discussion about their relationship.

One thing is certain: Don Jazzy met Tonto Dikeh when she had not yet gone wild. She was a little bit fresher at that time. Nigerian singer Solidstar also got his fair share of the attractive and endowed Tonto Dikeh. It was reported that they were dating sometime around 2013.

During the brief time, Tonto Dikeh was engaged in the music industry, they even collaborated on a song called “Sheba” that was released.

The two parties parted ways as soon as the relationship hit its lowest point. However, the musician’s dedication to the contentious actress in his song “Omotena” led to rumours that he had always had a soft spot for Tonto Dikeh.

The conflict usually begins when an artist believes he or she should be receiving more attention than their peers, or when envy and greed are present.

Mallam Spicey- 1005 Naira

When you look back on Terry G’s career, you’ll see one major blunder: putting Mallam Spicey to the test with the lyric “me I no be Mallam Spicey, Me I no dey stop for the fourth bar over.”

in response, Mallam Spicey dropped one of the hottest and most blatant diss tunes ever in Nigeria on Terry G.

“1005 Naira (Free Cure)” was recorded entirely on the beat of Terry G’s hit “Free Madness” and was followed by a video ridiculing Terry G.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to hear much from Mallam Spicey after this.

Tony Tetuila- Omode Meta

Tony Tetuila created the mega-hit “Omode Meta” released around 1999 after quitting the Remedies, which was a diss track directed at former group mates Eddy Montana and Eedris Adbulkareem.

Tony Tetuila featured 2baba(2face Idibia), Blackface, and Ruff, Rugged & Raw, a rap group. This is one of the most well-known songs from Nigeria’s hip-hop history’s early years.

“The young Mcs na who you be trying to contest with me
When am on the M i c dema go be in the remedies say that can go and I go on and on
And I can keep the party dropping bomb untill the break of dawn
Way back before I used to hang out with the wrong kind of fellows

Davido- Fem

If you are surprised to see this song on this list, then you haven’t listened to the lyrics. After going on a Social media pilgrimage for months, Davido returned to the scene with “Fem.”

The song was a hit, not just because of its beat but because of its lyrics. Certain lyrics like “Tell odogwu say we like to party” suggested that the song was a medium to throw shots at Burna Boy who he allegedly had issues with.

Furthermore, the song would go on to be a protest anthem during the revolutionary 2020 #Endsars protests where protesters used it to hush Government Officials trying to talk to them.

Ruggedman- Ehen!

Ruggedman exploded onto the scene with no regard for anyone’s face, and it showed in his epic diss tune, “Ehen!”.

He came out swinging for the industry’s prominent stars at the time. Eedris Abdulkareem, Maintain, and Rasqui were all impacted by what Ruggedy Baba was dishing out.

That catapulted him to a new level in Nigerian hip-hop at the time, and he garnered a sizable fanbase as a result.

The Song was a Hit and changed the Nigeria Rap scene.

“No be secret say remedies dey need remedy, I hear their rap, I laugh, to me nah like comedy/ Eedris and my 5 year old nephew rap the same way, like say dem born dem on the same day/ Wetin him dey talk I no hear, but I fear, when him “mighty” and people start to cheer”

Kelly Handsome- Igwe

Kelly Hansome was a known troublemaker and hitmaker in 2009-10, Picking beef with any and everyone once upon a time.

He’s dissed Kennis Music, MI, Ice Prince, and Jesse Jagz, but none of those diss singles compares to “Igwe (Kom Kom)”, a masterpiece he created to diss Don Jazzy, Dbanj, Wande Coal (Mo-Hits at the time), and Terry G.

The song is still one of the funniest jabs at a whole record label in Nigerian history. Thrown in the hilarious makeshift animation video, and we have something that will always be remembered for years to come.

Wande Coal- Who Born this Maga

Wande Coal was the sole member of the defunct Mo Hits to answer to Kelly’s diss with his “Who Born the Maga” track off the M2M album, which featured Kayswitch as a guest artist. Wande Coal directed the video.

You put your mouth for wetin no concern you

M.I Abaga- Beef

You’re sure to get a lot of stones thrown at you when you’re perhaps the hottest name in Nigerian hip-hop.

That’s what M.I was up against in 2010, when Iceberg Slim and Kelly Hansome, among others, took separate swings at him.

M.I’s reaction wasn’t a natural one. Instead, as the astute businessman that he is, he responded to both of them, as well as a slew of others, in his song Beef, which was released alongside his album MI2.

9ice ft Seriki- Talk I am Listening

Ruggedman has been the subject of a number of diss songs, and it’s easy to see why.

There was controversy in 2010 between Ruggedman, 9ice, and Toni Payne (9ice’s wife at the time), which resulted in a leaked conversation, a barrage of accusations, and a slew of diss recordings.

But, of all the diss songs that have been released, this one has taken the cake.

With the help of Seriki, 9ice fully reversed the script on Ruggedman (his one-time mentor). It helped expose Seriki to the Nigerian hip-hop scene in certain ways.

Ruggedman eventually replied to the diss with “A Word Is Enuff For The 9ice” before the two went on to settle their differences and collaborate on several songs.

Some of you may be wondering why we chose Vector for this week’s installment but the answer to that question, “Why Vector?” is actually very simple.

For those who haven’t noticed, Vector Tha Viper (real name Olanrewaju Ogunmefun) has been on a lot of features ever since last year.

And, it came to our notice that in Vector‘s case, familiarity does not breed contempt because rather than water down his talent on a feature, he takes the challenge upon himself to outshine his counterpart as well as trump his previous performance.

“I No Send You” is like Nigeria’s “Make It Rain” with an all-star cast of the featured artist in all three versions ranging from M.I to Eva and Ill Bliss.

As a matter of fact, in all the versions combined, I’m sure his verse is in most people’s top 3. No wonder he’s always a welcome guest when it comes to all-star features.

Ijeoma feat. Vector – Love In The Air

“Love In The Air” was my best Christmas song by a Nigerian artist last year. It should be no surprise that Vector‘s presence made a very emphatic impact.

With the wordplay and the way he related with listeners in both verses, he proved that he’s a versatile rapper and can give his unique touch to any type of song regardless of its topic.

The video was directed by DuduToonz.

Laylow feat. Iceberg Slim, CartiAir, Liu T, Mode Nine, Terry Tha Rapman, Skales, Vector, DaGrin, Ludu & Gino – Meet Me At The Top

Once again, another all-star cast of rappers was called to the table and Vector was one of them.

This song featured as many as ten artists, each with their own individual style and fan base.

And, though this was not one of Vector‘s best verses, he still managed to stand out in the multitude. The video was directed by Patrick Elis.

Vector feat. 9ice – Angeli

This Clarence Peters-directed video was full of special effects and awesome visuals that would keep you glued to the screen even if you didn’t like the song.

“Angeli” also called upon 9ice whose voice was even mixed into the production for the song.

Vector once again showed his versatility with production and content; add little bits of 9ice here and there into his verses in this catchy tune.

“Once Upon a Time” was the debut studio album of Tiwa Savage released in 2013 under her former label, Mavin Records and 323 Entertainment.

Mp3Bullet.ng presents you 18 of the albums turning 10 (or may have turned 10) in 2018. That means those albums are 10 years old! Some are still fresh, some are almost forgotten, but all made 2008 memorable. Oya come make we go.

1. M.I ABAGA – TALK ABOUT IT

M.I, born Jude Abaga, stormed the scene in 2006, holding down everywhere from Jos, his hometown, to Lagos. His single “Crowd Mentality” started off being popular in J-Town, before “Safe,“ which had Djinee (and sampled all hot pop song then), came. “Safe” changed the game, in a “scary” way. Still from the album, a shot called “Fast Money Fast Cars,” first introduced Wizkid, before Wizkid went on to become Nigeria’s hottest. In many ways, the album was a ground-breaking one. And, these days, it’d take the intervention of Afro beats, for a rapper to sell as much as M.I sold, then. Even M.I can’t remake the magic. Nigeria’s hip-hop community won’t be forgetting “Talk About It” anytime soon.

2. 9ICE – GONGO ASO

9ice definitely had to do a whole album called “ID Cabasa!” In 2008, 9ice worked with ID Cabasa, and he made the best album of that year. The albums birthed hits we won’t forget including “Gongo Aso,” “Pamurogo,” “Party Rider,” “Street Credibility” feat. 2Baba and more. Now, who says 9ice ain’t G.O.A.T?

3. D’BANJ – THE ENTERTAINER

D’banj, before 2008, was a star, no doubt. BUT, “The Entertainer,” marked a big era for the pop singer – and, yeah, he’s not just a singer, he’s an entertainer. The Entertainer. And, this is one of the biggest albums in Nigeria in the last two decades.

Hit singles like “Mo gbono feli feli,” “Olorun Maje,” “Kimon,” “Suddenly,” and the monster hit “Fall In Love,” all came from the album. Infact the whole 10 tracks on the album, were hits. And, it was in that same year, 2008!

4. 2FACE – THE UNSTOPPABLE

2face does RnB, really, but he was the one who really championed pop, in those days. He has a lot of pop records, to say the least. And “The Unstoppable,” further showed us that Innocent Idibia was unstoppable.

Due to some brouhaha, the album was poorly distributed in 2008, which prompted a re-release in 2010. It was called “The Unstoppable (International Edition).” 7 tracks from the original were added to the new one.

“Enter the place,” was from the album. The hit “Rain Drops,” too. And “Excuse Me Sister.” What an album!

5. TIMAYA – GIFT AND GRACE

Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa is a veteran, too. Timaya isn’t all these new dancehall acts’ mate kwanu. His album “Gift And Grace,” came in 2008. It has 14 songs which included hits like “I don blow,” “Dem Mama Anthem,” “Hey,” “God You Are 2 Much,” and “Ogologomma Remix.”

It was a big year for Tim.

6. NAETO C – U KNOW MY P

Kini big deal, kini big deal, shebi shebi we’re on fire…

One of the earliest dope rap records, in Nigeria. Naeto C was almost written off as an Ajebo, who’s not fit for the industry. C wasn’t having any of that. And this album “U Know My P,” took him to greater heights. Nigeria paid attention. “Kini Big Deal,” which featured Ikechukwu was sort of the hottest rap record in town, at that time. Other hot tracks include “The Devil Is A Liar” and “This Is What I Do.”

7. FAZE – ORIGINALITY

Just like D’banj, and 2face, Faze had his third studio album released in 2008. And, it’s success was undeniable. Even after the break of Plantashun Boiz, he could still hold it down solo. Not to forget, how the album was anticipated, and it came in October.

Hot tracks like “Originality,” “Play Ball” and “Story Of My Life” managed to gain prominence, then.

8. BANKY W – MR CAPABLE

This was RnB at it’s peak. The EME head honcho, packaged 14 banging tracks for the album. The guest features was one of a kind with Danny L, Sauce Kid, eLDee, Donnie and Tynie. It was a good time for Banky.

And his nick was apparently from this Era.

9. iLLBliss – DAT IBO BOY

In hip hop today, Illbliss is still one of the most underrated. Probably ‘cos we still have him around. The Igbo boy, who was a member of one of the pioneering rap groups Thoroughbreds, is one of the best lyricists and his flow is cool, too. Revered from the streets of Lagos, to the nooks of Enugu.

His album “Dat Ibo Boy,” is 10 years, and you won’t forget “U Go Wound,” or that “Enuf Space” which had Terry G on. Or will you?

10. eLDee – BIG BOY

In the year 2008, if anybody deserves to be called “Big boy,” it was Eldee. The big boy of hip-hop. What do we call him 10 years after? Big man, I guess?

The album had songs like “Bosi Gbangba,” “Big Boy” and “Go.” It boasts of appearances from Banky W, Iceberg Slim, Keno, Proto and Rukus. Big boy, indeed!

11. DURELLA – KING OF ZANGA

Somehow, Durella’s career sank, before he could reach the heights D’banj reached. And some call him a “one-hit wonder.” BUT, still, he has an album (King Of Zanga) which was commercially a hit.

The singer born, Oluwadamilare Okulaja (nothing close to Durella), released the album in 2008. And, it has hot songs like “Enu Ose,” “Shayo,” “Queen Of My Zanga,” and that “Wizkolowiska!”

12. BLACKFACE NAIJA – ME, MUSIQ AND I

Blackface, like 2face and Faze, also dropped an album, “Me, Musiq And I,” and it was critically a dope album. Maybe even better than Faze and 2face’s own? Maybe not. But then, he still made something iconic with that piece.

13. LORD OF AJASA – SECOND TURNING BY THE RIGHT

Today, you may respect Dagrin, as the progenitor of Yoruba rap, and Olamide as the one who took it commercial. BUT, you can’t deny it, Lord Of Ajasa rapped in yoruba. 2008, his album came and it has hit singles like “Le Fenu So” (feat. Konga, 9ice, Jahbless), “Esa Lo Bade” and “N’Gba Tawa Ni Kekere.”

14. KLEVER JAY – THE BEGINNING

Klever Jay ain’t a popular act in today’s pop, but sometimes around 2008, he had two singles that scattered the dance floors; “Koni Koni Luv,” and “Igboro Ti Daru.” If you don’t know those two songs, you weren’t in Naija, in 2008. They were from his album, The Beginning, released that same year.

15. MODE9 – THE PARADIGM SHIFT

Modo might not have made hits from albums, but he did prove “we no fit sell hardcore for Naija men” wrong. Extraordinary hip-hop at it’s best, the Yoruba MC delivers one of the best rap projects in Nigeria, ever. And yeah, he sold! It won’t be nice to ignore the fact that he actually had top-notch guests; Banky W, Sound Sultan, Eve Urrah, Mallam Spicey, Bez and more. “Death Blow,” that amazing beef song aimed at Ruggedy Baba was from the album, too.

16. J MARTINS – GET SERIOUS

Being authentic and unique can really get you to heights you might not reach by aligning with the crowd. Doing what is called “urban highlife,” isn’t the best of stuffs, then, but it did made J. Martins a star.

His debut, “Get Serious,” which had singles like “Good Or Bad,” “Cool Temper” and “So Fly,” was a commercial and critical success. It’s 10 years, this year.

17. SOUND SULTAN – SS4

Call him alternative or whatever, Sound Sultan remains one of the bests, ever. SS4 is his fourth studio album, and it has the jam “Aimo Asiko,” which featured 9ice and Lord Of Ajasa.

18. PRAIZ – P.R.I.D.E

Before “Rich and Famous,” Praiz had an album you probably never heard of. And it’s 10 years, since then. The album called “P.R.I.D.E” housed 9 tracks.
