Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Davido has broken his silence on his past association with convicted internet fraudster Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, widely known as Hushpuppi. He stated that he was unaware of the true origin of the socialite’s wealth.

In a recent interview, Davido acknowledged their friendship but maintained he did not know about Hushpuppi’s illicit dealings. Hushpuppi, once a fixture on social media for his extravagant lifestyle, is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence in the United States for orchestrating large-scale cyber fraud.

Reflecting on the situation, Davido offered a sobering perspective: “Some people choose to enjoy a few flashy years, even if it means paying the price later.”

“He’s my guy—my prayers are with him,” the singer added. “I used to see him around a lot, but I never really knew what he was into. Still, he lived well.”

Before his arrest in 2020, Hushpuppi was often seen mingling with celebrities and attending high-end events, with Davido occasionally making appearances alongside him.

In other news, the Timeless hitmaker shared his growing passion for acting and filmmaking, hinting at a major move into the movie industry this year.

“I can also act. I can act for real,” he said confidently. “I acted in my music videos—like ‘Jowo’ and ‘Nwa Baby’.” Davido revealed that he’s currently investing in several film projects alongside his frequent collaborator, director Dammy Twitch. “We’ve got ideas. Series coming,” he teased.

Commenting on the broader entertainment landscape, Davido noted the challenges currently facing Africa’s film industry. “The film space right now in Africa is going bankrupt. So, we are definitely going to tap into that,” he said.

Nigerian rapper Phyno has addressed criticism over featuring Hushpuppi, the controversial internet figure facing legal issues related to international fraud, on his latest song, “Nwoke Esike,” from his new album, Full Time Job.

The backlash began when social media user @Temmyt_Official questioned Phyno’s choice, challenging his decision to include Hushpuppi’s voice in the track despite the allegations surrounding him. Recall that, Phyno has voiced his frustration over a social media post that ignited a heated debate comparing him to fellow rapper and close friend, Olamide.

The controversy started when an influencer on X (formerly Twitter) posed the question of who the “Greatest of All Time” (GOAT) was in Nigerian rap between the two artists.

Phyno quickly responded, expressing his disapproval of the comparison and urging fans to stop fueling divisive conversations. “Yo!!! Mixed Reactions have trailed the announcement of an Hushpuppi movie series by American rapper, 50 Cent.

Mp3bullet reported the American rapper’s announcement came after the internet fraudster, Hushpuppi bagged an 11 year and 3-month sentence by the District Court sitting at the Central District of California on Monday after he was found guilty of laundering proceeds of a school financing scam, business email compromise and other fraudulent cyber schemes.

US Rapper and producer, Curtis Jackson III,  popularly known as 50 Cent, has revealed plans to release a movie series based on Nigerian internet fraudster, Ramon Abass.

Abass, well known by the name Hushpuppi, was arrested in June 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for scamming more than 1.9 million people, the majority of them were Americans.

He was afterward extradited to the United States where he got 11 year and three months sentence by the District Court sitting at the Central District of California on Monday after he was found guilty of laundering proceeds of a school financing scam, business email compromise and other fraudulent cyber schemes.

Hushpuppi had previously entered a guilty plea to the accusations brought against him during the trial.

Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter Oludemilade Martin Alejo, known professionally as Ycee, has offered advice to people seeking help with mental health issues.

He said those suffering from mental health should speak up and seek help.

He spoke against the background of a recent increase of suicides among young entertainers both locally and internationally.

Recall, A prominent Dubai-based socialite, Sodiq Oluwadamilola popular known as Dammie Richie reportedly committed suicide after battling depression at the weekend.

Just like Hushpuppi, Dammie Richie was known for his lavish display of his assets and wealth on social media.

He reportedly died after battling depression for about two years.

Despite the fact that he received medical assistance by enrolling in a rehabilitation centre, he lost the battle.

Empathising with sufferers of mental health issues, Ycee emphasised the importance of setting aside shame and speaking up.

The musician also urged patients to seek professional help, which he said was more effective than the short-term respite they obtain from smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol.

He wrote: 

“Feel like a lotta people going through a lot and not speaking about it cos they don’t wanna show but I promise you, internalizing your issues will eat you up!!

“Mental health problems are no joke. DO NOT BE ASHAMED TO SEEK HELP.

“Speaking with a professional and getting a diagnosis goes a long way. The quicker you do this, the quicker you can get the right prescription medicine to help you (weed and alcohol will only provide temporary relief).”

According to details released by Dubai police, Hushppupi defrauded about 1.9 million victims.

Video info released by the authorities revealed that Hushpuppis’s cybercrime squad was involved in $435.6 million scams.

The video further revealed that Hushpuppi and his team created fake email’s to divert transactions and hacked corporate emails to redirect transactions.

The video which further revealed that the Instagram sensation and his team duped about 1.9 million people also disclosed that about 47 smartphones, 5 hard drives and  15 storage memory devices and 21 laptops were recovered from the team.
