According to Spotify’s 2025 Wrapped data for Nigeria, the song led all others in terms of shares across both private and public digital spaces, underlining its wide appeal and emotional pull among listeners.

Beyond chart positions, the data provides a broader picture of how Nigerians engage with music. Spotify noted that sharing songs has become a deeply social act, with music serving as a quiet but powerful way to stay connected.

“It also reflects a broader trend in which Nigerians use music as a personal handshake in song form, a way to say, ‘I’m thinking of you’, without typing a word.”

Following closely at number two was Rema’s “Fun,” which gained massive traction on Snapchat and Instagram platforms, where music sharing is closely tied to personal expression and identity.

“Listeners suggest that sharing the song is less about private messaging and more about identity performance.”

Burna Boy’s Love claimed the third spot, spreading rapidly across Snapchat, Instagram stories, and WhatsApp. The track became a favourite for users looking to express emotions publicly, moving easily between group chats and social feeds.

Listeners noted that the song carried a shared emotional warmth, making it easy to pass along. Gospel music also featured prominently on the list, with Lawrence Oyor’s Favour ranking fourth, while No Turning Back II by Gaise Baba and Lawrence Oyor placed fifth.

These faith-based tracks highlighted the strong presence of spirituality in Nigeria’s digital culture. They were widely circulated through WhatsApp groups, SMS messages, and story feeds, often shared for encouragement, reassurance, and collective reflection.

Spotify’s report further revealed that social listening tools such as Blend, Friends Mix, and collaborative playlists played a major role in shaping listening habits in 2025. Rather than simply enhancing the experience, these features turned music into a shared ritual.

Jam sessions in Nigeria surged by 145 per cent compared to 2024, as friends, couples, work teams, and social circles embraced real-time listening as a new way to bond. The focus shifted from the songs themselves to the moments they created together.

It became less about the songs themselves and more about the shared experience they created, a reminder that community is often built in the smallest moments.

“In 2025, every forwarded song, shared link or story post tells the same story. ‘Music is a social glue, a mirror of mood, a bridge across private and public spaces, and a thread weaving individuals into community.’”

Industry observers say the sharing patterns explain why some songs travelled faster and farther than others. According to them, Nigerians share music not just for entertainment, but to feel connected, express identity, uplift one another, and ultimately, belong.

The spiritually charged single has become more than just a song, it’s a movement. Upon release, it made history as the highest-charting gospel song ever on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 100, peaking impressively at No. 1.

The song’s success comes on the heels of Lawrence Oyor’s solo breakout hit “Favour,” which dominated airwaves in early 2025. Together, both records highlight a new era where gospel music is not only spiritually uplifting but also commercially viable — bridging faith and mainstream culture like never before.

As anticipation builds for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, set to take place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, Gaise Baba joins a growing list of Nigerian artists vying for international recognition. Last year, Tems made history by winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance with her soulful anthem “Love Me Jeje.”

This year’s submission lineup already features some of Africa’s finest, including Wizkid’s “Piece of My Heart,” Burna Boy’s “Love,” and Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat” ft. Wizkid — a clear testament to how deeply African music continues to resonate on the global stage.

From Lagos to Los Angeles, the momentum is building. As Gaise Baba’s “No Turning Back II” enters the Grammy race, fans and believers alike are watching closely — hopeful that this faith-driven anthem will not only inspire hearts but also make history on music’s biggest night.

This marks a significant milestone not just for the artists but for gospel music in Nigeria’s contemporary music space.

A modern reimagining of the classic hymn “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus”, No Turning Back II fuses uplifting spiritual themes with vibrant, dance-ready production.

Its infectious sound and message of unwavering faith have resonated widely — especially on TikTok, where it sparked a viral movement that propelled the song into mainstream visibility.

This chart-topping success follows the earlier impact of Lawrence Oyor’s solo hit Favour, which gained massive traction in Q1 of 2025. Together, both songs reflect a new wave of gospel music crossing over into pop culture and reshaping the genre’s commercial relevance.

What was once considered niche is now national. The popularity of gospel music is resurging, driven largely by social media platforms like TikTok, which are helping a new generation connect to faith-based content in fresh, relatable ways.

Data backs the movement:

Gospel music streaming among Nigerian Gen Z on Spotify skyrocketed by 1228% between 2022 and 2024.

Christian podcast streams rose by 482% in the same period.

This digital revival signals a powerful shift — gospel music is no longer confined to Sunday mornings or church pews. It’s now a vibrant part of everyday life, soundtracking everything from morning commutes to viral trends.

And with hits like No Turning Back II, Gaise Baba, and Lawrence Oyor are not just breaking records —they’re blazing a trail for gospel’s new golden age.

Gaise Baba’s latest song, No Turning Back, has taken the internet by storm, racking up over one million views on YouTube within just two days of its video release.

The song’s explosive success is being seen as a direct fulfillment of a prophetic declaration Nathaniel Bassey made during a Hallelujah Challenge session in November 2022.

In a video clip reposted to his social media, Bassey is seen prophesying that Gaise Baba’s music would resonate far beyond Nigeria, carrying a unique, spirit-filled sound that would spark revival and inspire a generation—particularly the youth.

“I love seeing prophetic words come to pass,” Nathaniel Bassey wrote in reflection. “It builds our faith and reinforces our trust in God.”

He added that he envisions No Turning Back becoming a global anthem sung by children in schools around the world, igniting a new wave of Jesus consciousness among the next generation.

Encouraging other gospel ministers, Bassey emphasized that not every sound needs to be the same, stressing the power of authentic, spirit-led music in breaking new ground for Christ.

In response, Gaise Baba shared a heartfelt note of appreciation, recounting how that November 11, 2022, prophecy became a daily declaration that fueled his journey. He thanked Bassey for being a consistent inspiration and example in the gospel music community.

The inspiring exchange has struck a chord with gospel music lovers and believers across platforms, serving as a reminder of the power of prophetic words, obedience, and the divine role of music in spiritual awakening.

Together, the duo crafts a soul-deep anthem that boldly declares a one-way journey with Jesus—no compromises, no regrets, and absolutely no turning back.

A sequel to his widely received original, No Turning Back II amplifies the message with greater emotional depth, spiritual clarity, and raw authenticity. Gaise Baba’s passionate delivery finds powerful synergy with Lawrence Oyor’s distinctive devotional cadence, creating a musical altar where surrender, purpose, and worship meet.

“I can never turn back o… It’s already too late o… It won’t make sense o… Where am I going to?”

These piercing lyrics echo the resolve of a believer who has seen too much, come too far, and knows too deeply the reality of divine purpose to ever retreat.

The production—stripped down but impactful—fuses contemporary gospel vibes with traditional worship roots, creating an intimate and reverent atmosphere. It’s the kind of song that plays softly in moments of quiet reflection or booms loudly as a bold confession of spiritual allegiance.

Beyond a song, No Turning Back Remix is a movement of surrendered hearts. It’s for the believer who’s felt the pressure to give up but chooses to stay.

This song is the answer for those asking questions, wrestling with delay, or facing resistance: you’ve come too far to turn back now.

Perfect for prayer sessions, worship playlists, personal devotions, or quiet car rides, this track is more than just melody—it’s a spiritual reset, a declaration, and a reminder that the mission remains, even when the road gets tough.

As Gaise Baba and Lawrence Oyor remind us, “Following Jesus is a one-way street.” And in 2025, No Turning Back II is the anthem that puts that journey into words—and song.

Listen to “No Turning Back II” here.

The 17th edition of the prestigious Headies Awards has recognized the impact of gospel music, with several top gospel artists earning nominations in key categories.

The nomination list, released on Wednesday, February 12, features prominent gospel singers such as Mercy Chinwo, Dunsin Oyekan, Lawrence Oyor, and Tope Alabi, all vying for the Best Inspirational Single of the Year award.

Lawrence Oyor, who made headlines in January 2025 when his song ‘Favour‘ became the most-streamed track on Spotify with 2.9 million streams, received a nomination for his collaboration with Dunsin Oyekan on ‘Worthy of My Praise.’ Tope Alabi and Gaise Baba were nominated for their inspiring song ‘Particularly,’ while Mercy Chinwo secured a spot with her uplifting single ‘You Do This One.’

In addition to gospel music, the nomination list also highlighted some of Afrobeats’ biggest stars, including Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and recent Grammy winner Tems. The selection process considered songs released between April 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024.

With this year’s nominations reflecting a diverse range of musical talents, fans eagerly await the award ceremony, which promises to be a celebration of excellence across multiple genres.
