Nigerian singer, Peruzzi has admitted to being the songwriter behind Davido’s Unavailable song.

Fresh L took to Twitter to express his happiness for Peruzzi, stating that his pen was all over the song and it was a hit.

In his words;

“I’m happy for Peruzzi. His pen is all over Unavailable. What a hit to contribute to! #Timeless”

In response, Peruzzi gave a shout-out to Davido and his manager, Asa Asika for engaging him on the project and also appreciated music producer, Magicstick for the beat.

Asa Asika screenshotted the tweet and posted it on Instagram story. He tagged Peruzzi as his favourite writer to work with.

From findings, apart from Peruzzi, “Unavailable” was also written by Davido, Musa Keys, DMW new artist, Logos Olori and Rage.

Meanwhile, In an old tweet, Peruzzi reacted to a fan complaining of him not being in Davido’s Timeless” album.

The fan wrote; “Why is Peruzzi not in davido Album for the second time ????

The “Pressure” crooner in response told the fan not to worry as they have one on his forthcoming album, “Sabali”

Nigerian Afrobeat singer, songwriter, and performer, Bolaji Odojukan, popularly known as BOJ, has announced the release of the deluxe version of his recent studio project ‘Gbagada Express’.

The alternative singer will soon release a deluxe version of his third studio album as a follow-up.

BOJ earlier in 2022 released his third studio album, “BOTM,” after the release of “Magic,” in 2016 and, earlier that year, “BOTM.”

The heavily star-studded album consisted of 16 mellifluous songs and it featured some of the hottest names in the African music scene, talking about Wizkid, Davido, Mr. Eazi, Tiwa Savage, BNXN (Buju), Fireboy DML, Amaarae, Victony, Darkovibes, Kofi Jamar, Prettyboy D-O, Fresh L, Teezee, Enny, Mellissa, Zamir, and Obongjayar.

The musician announced on his social media page on Wednesday, October 17, 2022, that the album would be released in November of that year. He wrote:

Nigerian Singer, Davido has responded to a tweet from fellow singer, Fresh L over his forthcoming collaboration with American rapper, Dababy.

Recall that the DMW singer welcomed Dababy who recently flew down to Lagos from Germany. The two have been spotted in viral videos hanging out together.

The rapper arrived in Nigeria on Monday to link up with OBO for the music video shoot of a song they collaborated on.

Fresh L took to Twitter to write about the forthcoming collaboration, claiming that he heard it three times and it is a guaranteed hit song fans should expect.

In his words;

“Da Baby’s song ft David is really nice!! Heard it 3 times last night.. woke up thinking about it. Y’all gon like it. Sure hit”

Davido in response to Fresh’s statement quoted the tweet hinting at when fans should expect him to drop the song.

Nigerian prolific hip-hop duo Show Dem Camp has unveiled the lists of performers that will be gracing their palm wine music concert in Lagos.

The Nigerian duo of Show Dem Camp who comprises Tec and Ghost are no newcomers to the music scene.

With their form of music and the musicians with whom they cooperated, they are known as the pioneers of the Alte music movement in Nigeria.

They have quite an impressive discography to their name as well, with their Palmwine Music series and Clone Wars series standing tall at least three projects each.

DRB Lasgidi (BOJ, Teezee & Fresh L), Ladipoe, Ajebutter22, Oxlade, Lojay, Tomi Thomas, Falana, Funbi, Lady Donli, Moelogo, Tomi Owo, Dami Oniru, and others were confirmed as performing artists for the event on their Instagram page yesterday, December 14th 2021.

They also made it known that there will be surprise performances.

There is a new crop of cool cats that are dominating the Nigerian Music scene, these group of people fall under the umbrella of Alte Singers.

What is Alte or Alternative Music? Alternative music is classified as anything that is eclectic, original, or challenging than most popular music.

Or is music by non-conforming creatives who have taken charge of their content, right from lyrical composition to production and even directing their videos. Their freedom of expression is seen not only through music, but through fashion as well.

The term intends to give a platform for artists to break from the norm. It gives space for an artiste’s tendency to be innovative and reinvent genres. It has led to a small group of Nigerian artistes to define themselves as part of a movement called ‘Alté.

The genre since its rise in popularity has seen its fair share of criticism especially from people who prefer the usual ‘lamba‘ and its frontliners.  A lot of listeners don’t seem to understand them in terms of their eccentricity and vibe, what they offer is not regular so it makes them easy preys for criticism.

Although Alte has been around for a while, the use of the term ‘Alte’ can be traced back to 2010, when it was coined by DRB Lasgidi members Teezee and BOJ around the same time Black Magic started gaining prominence for his alternative music. It has also been credited to the members of the group, LOS. Alté was born out of a rebellion against mainstream music.

Sadly, alté artistes aren’t catering to a mass audience yet as many of them began their careers on SoundCloud, which allows performers to have full control of their music and its promotion.  But now they seem to be getting more recognition in the music industry.

DRB

The DRB LasGidi (previously known as “Rap Royals”) Nigerian musical group was formed in 2007 by BOJ, Teezee, and Fresh L.

Seen as the frontliners of Alte in Nigeria, they have released songs that have earned them

In 2012, they released the DJ Caise produced single, ‘Toyin”, which became an instant hit especially among the new wave of young listeners at the time of its release.

BOJ

BOJ is the stage name for Nigerian singer Bolaji Ojudokan, he is one of the founding of the group of Alte sound DRB. 

The singer released a mixtape #BOTM (Boj on the Microphone) in 2013 which showcased his raw talent.

Referred to as the Alte bank of Africa, he has worked with Davido, Reminisce, Show Dem Camp and Olamide, and Tiwa Savage.

The singer is popularly known for his smash hit “‘Awolowo” which features a trio of Ghanaian acts: Kwesi Arthur, Darkovibes, and Joey B. The song also received a Nigerian version that had Falz, Ycee, and Fresh L on it.

Fresh L

Fresh L whose real names is Ladi Ladenegan is a longstanding member of DRB.

The rapper is known for his stunning debut EP, SUNS, and has worked with notables like Davido, Dremo, and others.

Tems

Tems is a Nigerian alt-R&B singer, songwriter, and record producer.

In 2018 she released ‘Mr Rebel’ – a song of her own composition. Then she gained prominence with her smash hit “Try Me”.

In 2020 she was recruited by American singer Khalid to join him with fellow Nigerian Davido on an Afrobeats remix of “Know Your Worth“. That same year she released her debut EP, “For Broken Ears” which was preceded by the lead single, “Damages”.

She was also featured on Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos” on the “Essence” single.

Odunsi The Engine

Born Bowofoluwa Olufisayo Odunsi, the singer first came onto the scene with his 2016 EP ‘TIME OF OUR LIVES’.

If there’s one thing Odunsi -The Engine- has managed to do, it’s to stay true to himself and his art.

Influenced by EDM, R&B, Reggae, Soul and Afrobeats sounds, Odunsi pulls inspiration from these genres as well as various cultures to define his sound which he categorizes as Afro-Fusion.

His debut album ‘rare’ which dropped back in 2018 features other artists such as Davido, Runtown, Nasty C, Lady Donli, just to mention but a few.

Lady Donli

Lady Donli, is a promising alternative R&B, hip hop, alternative jazz and Afrobeat singer and songwriter.

In 2018, she released her debut album, ‘Enjoy Your Life’ which combines hip hop, jazz and other sounds as well.

Her inspiration comes not only from cultural experiences but also from music legends who dominated charts back in the ’80s and 90’s such as American duo Fugees and the late Brenda Fassie.

Donli has also worked with new-age music acts like Adekunle Gold, Nonso Amadi, Tomi Thomas, M.I Abaga, Mr Eazi, SDC, Davido, Ayuu, Odunsi the Engine, and Tay

Santi

Santi born Osayaba Ize-Iyama gained prominence with his ‘Diaries of a Loner journey’ during his days as an underground rapper which earned him even recognition from Wizkid.

Later he switched to an Alte Guy, got the name Santi and released an impressive music project in 2019 titled “Mandy & The Jungle“.

His self-directed music video for ‘Rapid Fire‘ which also featured Shane Eagle and Ghanaian singer Amaarae, has garnered million-plus views on YouTube. His music is a mashup of reggae and RnB and everything else in between.

Wavy The Creator

Born Jennifer Ejoke, Wavy the Creator is a jack of all trades: filmmaker, fashion designer, photographer, and a recording artist.

She made her start in the creative industry as a photographer, before returning to Lagos and releasing her explosive single H.I.G.H. in 2017.

H.I.G.H (Her In Greater Heights) has propelled her to the international scene where she has been able to share a stage with other artists such as Skepta and Jhus. She is currently signed to British rapper Tinie Tempah’s label, Disturbing London.

June 2019 marks the end of the first half of the year, and I guess artists were like, “oh, the year is almost gone, I gotta drop something.” Hence the flood of hits that hit us, in the past weeks.

July is still young, and most of the songs trending now are probably songs released in the course of last month. That’s not to say the guys ain’t already dropping new music, though. But of all those long lists of songs released in June, which are Top 10 Naija Songs? The ones still trending? You can say, the best.

Kizz Daniel – Eko

A week after democracy day and inauguration ceremony, when Sanwoolu was probably still a topic of interest, Kizz pulled off this big one, “Eko.”

“Eko” is like most of his other recent works, low tempo, Afro, short and catchy. Kizz definitely knows how to make a hit.

Asa – Good Thing

Veteran alternative singer, Asa, came not long after quite a long break from music and released her “The Beginning” project. And since her name has been in the music conversation.

“Good Thing” has a good vibe. The guitar clicks on her cool almost masculine vibe, and it’s like “where has this been our whole lives?”

2Baba – Frenemies ft. Waje

2Baba, another veteran who has been doing music professionally for two decades now, also made a comeback. Not a comeback in that sense, as he’s still very much active on the scene. Last year he pulled hit,  “Amaka ” and kicked off the year with “Oyi.”

“Frenemies”, however, isn’t like what we’ve been getting from him in recent times. The reggae track, which featured singer, Waje, sure brings a nostalgic feel of 2baba.

Adekunle Gold – Kelegbe Megbe

Adekunle Gold released his “About 30” LP, last year. His first project since leaving his former label, YBNL. It was a commercial success, and that meant there is a career for Adekunle, after all.

“Kelegbe Megbe” which is translated as ‘know your level’, exploits styles he used on his debut, “Gold” and it’s a moral instruction (if that’s a thing.) Maybe a word to people who are saying Fireboy is the new Adekunle? (aka everyone!)

Young John x Tiwa Savage x Kizz Daniel – Ello Baby

Young John the wicked producer needs no introduction in this industry, but still, he’s not in the leagues of Krizbeatz or Mut4y or Masterkraft, who make hits for a living. Yes, he makes hits, but not his hits.

“Ello Baby” is his track, though. And it features Kizz Daniel and Tiwa Savage. This isn’t the first time the two are collaborating though, as Tiwa was on Kiss Daniel’s “Woju Remix.” Young John produced Kizz’s hit, “Fvck You” months ago, and “Ello Baby” is another big one.

Teni – Power Rangers

Teni has been busy. She’s not one to rest at all. Before one-hit starts fading off, she’s already released another. And for a new artist, she has a lot of hits really.

“Power Rangers” is a love story and it’s got a mid-tempo afrobeat vibe. And also the regular Teni thing. You don’t have to be reminded she’s got fire, right?

Burna Boy – AnyBody

Burna Boy has now attained the status of one of the greatest artists in Africa, after his numerous big hits and a BET International Act Award. 2019 has been eventful for him, indeed.

“AnyBody” was released around the time he got the BET, and maybe the talks of the new song were trumped by the big win. But the dance hall tune is a hit, really.

Fireboy – What If I Say

Fireboy DML isn’t just a kid signed to YBNL anymore, he’s officially a star. He now has real hits under his belt and doesn’t need to keep making songs about hustle stories to get attention anymore.

“What If I Say” is a hit dance hall song. Think of it as more like what Adekunle Gold would have done if he spoke a bit more English when he was coming up.

Naira Marley – Soapy

Naira Marley‘s place is on the streets, not in prison. He has mastered the craft of turning the streets up, and just this year, he’s done a number of impressive tracks. Alone, and as collaborations.

“Soapy” which has now inspired a crazy soapy dance is the big thing on the streets now. Well, it’s all Naira Marley this time. No Zlatan.

BOJ – Awolowo (Remix) ft. Falz, Ycee, Fresh L

DRB Lasgidi artist, BOJ hasn’t been in the mainstream for so long. His last big impression would be his collaboration with Simi, years ago, maybe.

“Awolowo” has been released before and it featured top Ghanaian acts, but the remix which featured Falz, Ycee (something light?) and Fresh L was released last month. You don’t put those hot artists on a song, and not trend, right?

What new music are banging the streets, anyway? And are these new songs really worth checking out? That may be a subjective question, but Vic O has music out too, and you probably don’t want to have that on your playlist more than you want to start your week with it. I guess that makes two of us, though.

But a couple of hits are out there, that everyone should definitely check out. You should put them on your playlist, and bang ’em all week long. Really.

Burna Boy – Anybody

If you don’t have this track already, you’re wrong. “Anybody” is probably the hottest thing around now, and it’s a banger. Some say it’s below the Burna standard, or it’s just another ordinary song, or whatever. But who cares? We just wanna feel the vibe and feel alive, isn’t it? Then Burna Boy’s “Anybody” should definitely be on your playlist, this week.

Fireboy – What If I Say

Since Fireboy got signed to YBNL, last summer, a lot has happened. One thing has been true all through, the guy’s got game. Nobody knows if he’s gonna stay hot long enough to let us feel what he got. But we know he’s literally Fire.

“What If I Say” is a hard vibe, that somehow brings back some nostalgia cause the boy started sounding like Adekunle Gold, at some point. The vibe is like a Adekunle x Burna Boy joint, it’s cool.

It’s probably one of the most trending right now, on Social Media, on Search Engines, everywhere. And this means a lot to Fireboy, it may mean he has another big one after all. This will definitely out-sell “Jealous.”

BOJ – Awolowo (Remix) Ft. Falz, Ycee, Fresh L

BOJ of the collective DRB, comes through with a remix to his hit, “Awolowo.” The older version featured Ghanaian arts, and he just had to do this, for the culture.

A hip-hop/afrobeats marsh-up, it’s a fun song, and the guys just doing their thing, having fun. Falz was at his best, delivering thoughtful bars, as ever. Ycee was hyper, he got cool vibe. And Fresh L, who is also part of DRBLasgidi, finished it off with his own smooth vibe.

There’s no reason you shouldn’t have this on your playlist, this week.

Junior Boy – Anita Baker

Maybe “Junior Boy My Prayer” is the one topping the searches, but this new one is worth checking out. Once you check it out, and play it once, it will be hard to not put it on repeat.

Really it’s good to hear Junior Boy not praying on his song, this one is a club banger, a good sing-along. It’s a fan favorite, and you can’t deny this is a great vibe. If anything, this is a potential big hit!

Nonso Amadi – Comfortable Ft. Kwesi Arthur

Nonso Amadi is a fresh guy, literally. He knows how to tweak Afro sounds to make it finesse, in fact that’s what he does every time. And for a while, he’s been on a roll.

If you’ve never heard of him before, you should probably start from Nonso Amadi Tonight, cause you’ll feel like he’s evolved over time. This “Comfortable” track is one of his coolest, till date.

Ghanaian rapper, Kwesi Arthur, also added his sauce on the jam, making it sound like a Nigeria-meets-UK-and-Ghana vibe. You should put this on, too. Definitely.
