Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2013 Ballon d’Or trophy was auctioned off for charity in 2017, collecting roughly £532,000 from Israel’s richest man for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

According to Marca, with the original trophy apparently on display at his Madeira museum, Ronaldo explicitly requested that a copy be produced to sell at a charity auction in London.

Since winning the award five times at his peak, Ronaldo now plies his trade in the Saudi Pro-league after joining Al Nassr – although he could have joined rivals Al Hilal for a transfer ban – but is yet to make his debut for his new club.

In the course of his great career, Ronaldo has received the honour five times.

Of his five awards, 2013 was a year that saw the then-Real Madrid forward narrowly pip Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery to it.

Ribery had won the treble with Bayern Munich in the 2012-13 season.

Ronaldo scored 55 goals for Los Blancos but failed to win a trophy with Bayern taking the Champions League and Barcelona winning La Liga.

Former Bayern Munich player, who has been one of the best footballers at the club, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 39.

Franck Ribery has revealed that he has put his boots away with the announcement of his retirement from football at the age of 39.

Ribery played for nine clubs during the course of his 22-year career, the last of which was Serie A team Salernitana. His most productive spell came at Bayern Munich where he scored 86 goals in 273 games.

Between 2008 and 2019, he assisted the German team with nine Bundesliga victories and the 2013 Champions League triumph. Ribery also played for Galatasaray, Marseille, and Fiorentina and won 19 trophies in total, including the Club World Cup.

The veteran played 81 times for France and won a silver medal at the 2006 World Cup. Perhaps Ribery’s contribution to the Bayern team that won the Champions League will be most warmly recalled since he and Arjen Robben were devastating on the wings.

The Frenchman was recognised for his performances that year by finishing third in the 2013 Ballon d’Or, but he felt he should have won the prize instead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, The former France winger took to social media to reveal the news about his retirement from football. He wrote on Twitter:
