Nigerian singer Fido has delivered one of the most unexpected collaborations of the year with his new single “Dance For Jesus,” featuring street-hop heavyweight Zlatan and rapper ODUMODUBLVCK.

Released under Oosha Records and EMPIRE, the record is produced by hitmaker Yung Willis and arrives as a high-energy blend of street gospel and club-ready Afro-street sound. Driven by heavy basslines and a fast-paced rhythm, the track fuses spiritual gratitude with raw, unfiltered street energy.

Zlatan opens the song with his trademark Zanku flair, layering playful ad-libs and infectious confidence over the beat, while still delivering a verse that carries surprising lyrical sharpness. ODUMODUBLVCK follows with his signature deep-toned intensity, injecting grit and commanding presence that elevates the record’s street appeal.

At the center of it all is Fido, whose melodic yet rhythmic delivery ties both contrasting styles together. His performance ensures the track remains accessible to mainstream listeners while still resonating strongly with the street audience that both featured artists dominate.

Despite its spiritual title, “Dance For Jesus” leans heavily into dancefloor energy, creating a bold contrast between its theme of gratitude and its high-octane production. The irony has not gone unnoticed by fans, adding to the song’s viral appeal.

Already gaining traction online, the record is trending across social media platforms, especially TikTok, where a dance challenge has begun to spread rapidly. It also reflects a growing 2026 trend where artists blend religious or spiritual themes with street-hop intensity to create music that is both celebratory and energetic.

With its mix of faith, fun, and street credibility, “Dance For Jesus” stands out as one of the year’s most talked-about releases.

The 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) is set to celebrate Africa’s biggest hits, with Nigerian artists making a strong showing in the “African Song of the Year” category.

The nominations highlight the continued influence of Nigerian music across the continent. Last year, the award went to “Tshwala Bam” by people, “Titom,” “Nigerian singer,” and Burna Boy, which became a fan-favourite anthem.

For 2026, Davido leads the Nigerian entries with two notable nominations. His 2025 hit “With You,” featuring Omah Lay from the album 5ive, has garnered global acclaim, including a 2026 Grammy nomination. Davido also appears on “Nakupenda,” an energetic Amapiano track by South African duo TXC, featuring Shoday, Scotts Maphuma, Zlatan, and AL Xapo, blending Nigerian and South African sounds to create a standout contender.

Other Nigerian songs nominated in the category include Rema’s “Kelebu,” Fido’s “Joy Is Coming,” and “Laho II” by Shallipopi and Burna Boy. South African star Tyla is also nominated for her 2025 hit “Chanel.”

With a diverse lineup of songs spanning Afrobeats, Amapiano, and contemporary African pop, the competition promises to be fierce, showcasing the vibrancy and innovation of African music.

The Fulham FC star revealed that his debut extended play, More To Life, will drop on April 9, giving fans their first real taste of his musical journey. He announced on Instagram, sharing both the cover art and a nine-track lineup for the project.

The EP will feature a mix of solo records and collaborations, with appearances from artistes such as 24am, Teniola Time, Gidi, Fido, and SPKS. Notably, two tracks will see Iwobi perform alone, highlighting his growing confidence as an artist.

While this marks his first official project, Iwobi is no stranger to the studio. He previously teamed up with fellow footballer Chuba Akpom, who records music as Skoli, alongside British rapper Ramz on the track “Hop Out.”

Despite his musical ambitions, Iwobi continues to deliver on the pitch. So far this season, he has recorded four goals and three assists in the Premier League, maintaining his importance to Fulham’s squad.

His move into music reflects a growing trend of footballers embracing creative outlets beyond the game, as Iwobi prepares to show fans a different side of his personality.

Fido Breaks Silence with Emotional Apology, Vows Growth, Maturity as he Enters New Era in Afrobeats

Fast-rising Afrobeats act Fido has publicly owned up to his recent missteps, offering a heartfelt apology after backlash over some of his comments and actions.

In an honest message addressed to fans and the wider Afrobeats community, the singer admitted that fame arrived quickly and he wasn’t fully prepared for the weight that comes with it. Navigating sudden stardom under public scrutiny, he confessed, wasn’t as easy as it looked.

“There’s no easy way to write this, so I’ll just say it plainly. I messed up,” he began, choosing accountability over excuses.

Reflecting on his journey, Fido acknowledged that he “said things that should never have been said” and allowed “ego, excitement, and inexperience” to influence some of his decisions. He was clear that those moments do not reflect the man he is working to become.

Rather than defend himself, the singer leaned into humility. He apologised directly to fans who stream his music, stand up for him online, and continue to believe in his talent.

He also extended that apology to the broader Afrobeats community including the legends and trailblazers who laid the foundation for emerging stars like himself.

Fido emphasised that he is still learning and evolving but has taken the criticism seriously. According to him, the lessons have been internalised, and his forthcoming music will reveal a “deeper” and “more grateful” version of himself.

Ending his note with renewed determination, he declared, “This is growth. This is maturity. This is me doing better. It’s game time again.”

While conversations continue across social media, the tone has shifted. For now, Fido has chosen reflection over resistance, and whether this moment marks a full-circle comeback will depend not just on words, but on what he does next.

Sitting comfortably at the top is Asake with his 2023 smash hit, “Remember.” The track has now earned the title of the most-streamed song in Spotify Nigeria’s history, reinforcing Asake’s status as one of the country’s most dominant hitmakers.

The announcement comes at a time when Nigeria’s digital music consumption is booming. According to Spotify’s data, local streaming has surged by nearly 300 percent in the last two years alone, a clear sign that Nigerian listeners are fully locked into homegrown sounds.

And when it comes to dominance, Asake didn’t just take the crown; he practically owns the room. The street-pop star occupies four spots in the top ten, underlining his stronghold on the street-pop and Afro-fusion wave.

Trailing closely behind “Remember” at number two is “Dealer” by fast-rising act Ayo Maff, featuring Fireboy DML, a collaboration that blends fresh energy with established star power.

Afrobeats heavyweight Wizkid also makes a strong showing. His upbeat track “Kese (Dance)” ranks at number four, while his joint effort with Asake, “MMS,” secures the ninth spot.

Emerging talent is not left out either. Rising singer Fido claims two entries on the chart with “Awolowo” and “Joy is Coming,” signalling a growing appetite among listeners for emotionally rich, relatable records.

Other notable appearances include “With You” by Davido and Omah Lay, as well as “Doha” by Seyi Vibez.

Five years in, Spotify Nigeria’s numbers tell a powerful story. Afrobeats is not just thriving globally; it’s being streamed heavily at home. And if this list is anything to go by, Nigerian listeners know exactly who they want on repeat.

Fido steps back into the spotlight with Chickendo, a new single crafted to extend the winning streak that began with Awolowo and the uplifting, chart-dominating Joy Is Coming.

Over time, he has built a clear creative identity for himself in that sweet spot between early Wande Coal’s velvet melodies and Kizz Daniel’s polished confidence.

Fido Returns With Soulful New Single “Chickendo.”

His music radiates hope, gratitude, and a soft kind of swagger, and Chickendo fits right into that world. It is introspective yet dance-ready, the type of track designed to lift spirits even as it commands the dancefloor.

The production on Chickendo is smooth and deliberate, taking full advantage of the modern Afropop landscape without drowning in its excesses. It employs familiar log drums and Amapiano-inspired percussion but dresses them in a warmer, gentler soundscape.

Fido has always been more invested in groove than chaos, and here, his voice sails calmly across a minimalist, replay-friendly beat. The melody is built to stick, looping, memorable, and clean.

CHICKENDO OUT NOWhttps://t.co/IM36Aezk18 pic.twitter.com/4wnyklNNmZ

Every drum hit, every background vocal, and every bass bounce is wrapped with clarity, reinforcing Fido’s strength as a melody-first artist who knows the value of sonic neatness.

Though the title Chickendo comes across as mysterious at first glance, the message in the lyrics is unmistakably Fido. He continues the themes that have become central to his identity: navigating newfound fame, rejecting negativity, and giving thanks for his rise.

His use of Nigerian slang and cultural flavor keeps the writing grounded, enhancing the intimacy of his storytelling. As always, he mixes confidence with spiritual grounding, delivering lines that feel like both a personal diary entry and a sermon for anyone walking their own hard road. It’s that mix of candor and celebration that keeps his fanbase returning.

Strategically timed for Detty December, the single aims to match or surpass the success of his previous hits. Yet with that momentum comes a familiar challenge: critics continue to wonder if Fido will eventually step beyond the shadows of the artists who inspire him.

Chickendo shows he has perfected his lane, crafting music that is instantly enjoyable and deeply resonant. The next evolution will be about expanding that sound without losing the heart of it.

For now, Chickendo delivers exactly what fans want: good vibes, rhythmic warmth, and a fresh reminder of Fido’s growing presence in the Afropop landscape. It’s another strong entry in his catalogue, poised to dominate festive playlists and keep the streets glowing well into the new year.

With a new year in sight, the tech giant released its official list, capturing the digital trails music lovers left behind as they chased melodies, meanings, and the artists who moved them.

This year’s search trends paint a vivid picture of Nigeria’s ever-evolving musical appetite—one that stretches from pulsing Afrobeats to soul-stirring gospel, to the global reach of hip-hop.

It’s a blend as diverse as the nation itself, showing which sounds sparked curiosity and which names dominated conversations both online and offline.

Most Searched Songs in Nigeria – 2025

Leading the pack is a song that speaks directly to the soul. Google’s 2025 End-of-Year Trends crowned “Oluwatosin (Jesus Is Enough)” by Tkeyz featuring SteveHills as Nigeria’s most-searched song.

Its rise mirrors the country’s deep love for inspirational music tracks that offer comfort, uplift spirits, and echo in prayer rooms and playlists alike.

The rest of the list is a colourful mix of street anthems, Afrobeats favourites, and viral moments. Among them:

“Joy Is Coming” — Fido

“With You” — Davido ft. Omah Lay

Shallipopi’s buzzing hit “Laho”

“My Darling” — Chella

Rema’s “Fun”

“Arike”

“Pity This Boy”

Teni’s “Money”

These titles didn’t just trend—they shaped moments, sparked searches, and stayed on repeat across the country.

Most Searched Personalities (Artists) 2025

On the artist side, one name stood taller than the rest. Juma Jux, the Tanzanian sensation, emerged as Nigeria’s most-searched musician of the year—proof that his sound travelled far beyond borders and found a home in Nigerian playlists.

He wasn’t alone on the list. Others who commanded the nation’s attention include:

Mr Eazi, ever the genre-blender and cultural force

Mavo, whose breakout run made him impossible to ignore

Fola, one of Afrobeats’ fastest-rising voices

And a mix of actors, directors, and global celebrities such as Aaron Pierre, Chika Ike, Kim Sae Ron, Peju Ogunmola, and Teyana Taylor

Each name tells its own story of relevance, virality, or artistic momentum.

Most Searched Lyrics in Nigeria – 2025

When it came to lyrics, one song towered above the rest: “With You” by Davido featuring Omah Lay. Its emotional pull, cultural weight, and widespread replay value made it Nigeria’s most-searched lyrics query of the year.

Other lyrics that sent Nigerians to Google include:

“Oluwatosin”

XXXTentacion’s “Hope”

“Joy Is Coming” — Fido

“Favour It Surrounds Me Like a Shield”

“Arike”

XXXTentacion’s “Vice City”

“Laho”

“Shaolin” — Seyi Vibez

“Day by Day” — Simi ft. Kizz Daniel

Still, none matched the tidal wave of interest behind Davido and Omah Lay’s collaboration, sealing its place as one of 2025’s defining musical moments.

Apple Music has finally revealed the songs that ruled Nigerian ears in 2025, and the announcement reads like a parade of the country’s biggest musical giants.

In its official release, the streaming platform unveiled the Top Songs of 2025 (Nigeria), confirming what many music lovers already felt in their bones: Afrobeats heavyweights once again carried the year on their shoulders.

From street-shaking bangers to soulful collaborations, the list mirrors a year where Nigerian music refused to slow down.

Leading the pack is Asake, whose hit track “Why Love” didn’t just top charts; it lived rent-free in the hearts of fans all year.

The song’s runaway success places him comfortably at No. 1, and his multiple appearances on the list only underscore how unstoppable his run has been.

Right behind him is Wizkid with “Kese (Dance),” a track that quickly became a nationwide groove anthem. Their teamwork also proved magical, as Wizkid and Asake’s joint efforts “MMS” and “Bad Girl” found their way into the Top 10, reminding everyone why their collaborations feel like lightning in a bottle.

And of course, Davido refuses to be left out of any conversation about Nigerian hits. His chart stormers “Funds” (with ODUMODUBLVCK and Chike) and “With You” (featuring Omah Lay) kept fans replaying, singing, and posting all year long.

But 2025 wasn’t just a year for the big stars. Emerging voices like Fido, FOLA, and BNXN muscled their way into the national spotlight, proving that Nigeria’s soundscape keeps stretching, evolving, and surprising.

The short clip, which has been circulating on social media, combines high-end aesthetics with rich Igbo cultural elements, indicating that the new release will convey both festive energy and profound cultural pride.

The teaser opens with strong nighttime visuals that instantly convey celebration and confidence. Fido steps into the frame dressed in full traditional elegance, rocking a red-and-gold embroidered top, layered coral beads, and the iconic Igbo red cap.

With a decorated white hand fan in hand, he strikes the image of an artist fully embracing both success and heritage.

Adding to the cultural richness, a musician is seen playing the ekwe, the traditional slit drum whose earthy rhythm pulses underneath the modern Afrobeats vibe. Just behind them, a white Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon stands tall, underscoring the themes of wealth, ambition, and enjoyment that the teaser radiates.

Throughout the clip, bold on-screen phrases pop in and out: “Money on My Mind,” “Igbo Kwenu,” “Where My Money Dey,” and “No Dey Use My Money Play”—hinting that Chickendo is built around celebration, achievement, and the lively spirit associated with the December groove.

A quick nod to nightlife mogul Obi Cubana also reinforces the song’s luxury-and-prosperity narrative.

With the festive season fast approaching, the upcoming single is already shaping up to be Fido’s next big anthem. While Joy Is Coming showcased a softer, emotional side of the singer, Chickendo appears ready to usher in a more vibrant, culturally grounded phase of his artistry.

Fans are now waiting eagerly for Fido to announce the official release date, as the track looks set to take over playlists and December party scenes across the country.

Davido, Burna Boy, and BNXN Lead 2025’s Most-Streamed Nigerian Albums on Spotify

The race for Nigeria’s most-streamed projects of 2025 is heating up, and, unsurprisingly, it’s the usual titans setting the pace.

According to fresh data compiled by The Debut Hub, a popular music insights page on X (formerly Twitter), Davido, Burna Boy, and BNXN currently occupy the top three spots on the ranking of the most-streamed Nigerian albums on Spotify this year so far.

Top Most Streamed 2025 Nigerian Projects on Spotify

While the list is not an official Spotify release, it has become one of the most widely circulated and respected summaries of Nigerian streaming performance, highlighting how far Afrobeats has travelled globally. Collectively, the 20 projects on the list have amassed a staggering 2.214 billion streams in 2025 alone.

Davido’s “5ive” and Burna Boy’s “No Sign of Weakness” Dominate the Charts

At the summit sits Davido with his fifth studio album, 5ive, racking up 320 million streams to become 2025’s most-streamed Nigerian project so far.

Released earlier this year, the album has been hailed for its confident fusion of Afrobeats, pop, and amapiano influences, another testament to Davido’s staying power and global resonance.

In second place is Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness with 250 million streams, extending the Grammy winner’s remarkable streak of top-performing albums. Since African Giant in 2019, Burna has consistently dominated global charts with projects that blend introspection, swagger, and sonic innovation.

BNXN (formerly Buju) completes the top three with his project CAPTAIN, which has earned 193 million streams. Once known primarily for his collaborations, BNXN’s solo success with CAPTAIN proves his growth into a self-sustaining star capable of carrying a full-length project to commercial success.

Odumodublvck, Olamide, and Others Keep the Heat On

The rest of the top 10 reflects a healthy mix of sonic diversity within the Afrobeats ecosystem. Odumodublvck’s THE MACHINE IS COMING takes the fourth spot with 153 million streams, followed by Oxlade’s OFA: Deluxe Edition at 145 million and Olamide’s self-titled Olamidé with 127 million.
Producers and experimentalists like Sarz (Protect Sarz At All Costs) and rising stars like Fola, T.I Blaze, and Seyi Vibez also make notable appearances, proof that Nigerian audiences and the global diaspora are engaging deeply with a wide range of sounds.

One of the biggest talking points around the list is the absence of Wizkid.
The omission, however, isn’t a reflection of waning influence; it’s simply a matter of timing. Wizkid’s last album, Morayo, dropped in November 2024 as a heartfelt tribute to his late mother.

The project, though outside the 2025 data window, set a new record for the highest opening week for an African artist on Spotify.

Rather than focus on an album cycle, Wizkid has taken a different approach this year, staying visible through strategic collaborations. In 2025 alone, he has appeared on global hits like “Gimme Dat” with Ayra Starr, “Billionaires Club” with Olamide and Darkoo, “Forever Be Mine” with Gunna, and “Dynamite” with Tyla.

Each collaboration has garnered millions of streams worldwide, reinforcing Big Wiz’s position as Afrobeats’ most bankable feature artist, maintaining presence without the fatigue of a traditional rollout.

If one thing is clear from the 2025 streaming data, it’s that Afrobeats has evolved into a multi-dimensional global movement. The fact that all 20 projects reportedly crossed 50 million Spotify streams in a single year underscores the genre’s massive streaming power and cultural consistency.

While Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid remain Afrobeats’ foundational pillars, new voices like Rema, BNXN, Odumodublvck, Asake, and Ayra Starr continue to expand its emotional and sonic reach, blending heritage with innovation.

Veteran Afropop star 9ice has showered praise on a new wave of Nigerian artists, commending their originality, lyrical depth, and fearless creativity in pushing the boundaries of Afrobeats.

In a recent interview captured on video, the Gongo Aso hitmaker expressed admiration for emerging acts such as Fola, Ayo Maff, Shoday, Rybeena, and Fido, singling out Fido’s latest single, Joy Is Coming, as a standout example of the evolving Nigerian soundscape.

“I love a whole lot of them,” 9ice said. “Their style is quite different, and at least, they are testing that topic that people are running away from.”

He highlighted Joy Is Coming as a refreshing deviation from the overused themes of romance and nightlife in contemporary Afrobeats.

“It’s not about girls now — and everybody loves it,” he noted, adding that having a distinct creative identity is what defines longevity in the industry. “Once you have your own niche, that’s it.”

9ice’s endorsement carries weight, given his pivotal role in shaping the sound of modern Nigerian pop music through classics like Street Credibility and Photocopy.

His acknowledgment of the new generation signals a shift toward more introspective, experimental storytelling within the Afrobeats movement.

As Nigeria’s music scene continues to evolve, 9ice’s recognition serves as a nod of approval to young artists who are rewriting the rules and proving that authenticity still reigns supreme.

Drawing inspiration from his Calabar roots, the album captures a mix of nostalgia and modern Afrobeats innovation. Its soundscape shifts between amapiano-tinged rhythms, soulful ballads, and high-energy Afro-fusion bangers.

With polished production and melodic hooks, Iyanya strikes a balance between vulnerability and confidence, offering fans an intimate yet celebratory experience.

The tracklist boasts heavyweight collaborations across the Afrobeats spectrum. Fido lends his voice to the lead single Sorry, a poignant blend of remorse and rhythm, while Mia Guiss infuses Peace of Mind with soulful international depth.

Street-pop star Shoday energizes Orobo, and Ghana’s King Promise layers highlife textures into Badboy.
