    Falz Explains Why He Speaks Out on Nigeria’s Issues

    Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has clarified that his outspoken views on governance are not directed at any particular politician or political party, insisting that his focus remains on issues affecting Nigerians.

    The entertainer made the clarification during a recent appearance on Arise 360, where he addressed questions about whether his advocacy and social commentary had affected his career opportunities and brand partnerships.

    Falz revealed that a company once approached his management for a possible collaboration but later raised concerns about his stance on political and social issues in the country.

    However, the rapper explained that his criticism has always been centred on systems and policies rather than individuals, noting that he has never publicly attacked any politician or political organisation by name.

    According to him, his message is about demanding accountability and speaking against poor governance rather than promoting any political agenda.

    “I’m not single handedly picking at anyone to antagonise. What I’m speaking to is the practice and not even really the people in particular. I’ve mentioned no name, I’ve mentioned no political party or whatever.”

    The “This Is Nigeria” crooner added that people who feel personally offended by his comments may be associating themselves with the issues he highlights.

    Falz also stated that he would rather lose certain opportunities than compromise his values or stop speaking about issues he believes are important.

    He explained that if some organisations are uncomfortable with his position on social matters, then such partnerships may not align with his personal principles.

    The rapper has remained one of Nigeria’s most vocal entertainers on social issues, frequently using his music and public platform to address topics including governance, inequality, and national challenges.

    The protest, held in Lagos, was aimed at drawing attention to the country’s worsening security situation and the continued captivity of kidnapped victims, including schoolchildren and teachers.

    However, Falz said he was stunned to see individuals opposing a movement focused on advocating for the safety of Nigerians.

    Speaking after the demonstration, the rapper questioned why anyone would resist calls for urgent action on an issue that affects citizens across political, ethnic, and religious lines.

    He stressed that insecurity should not be viewed through a partisan lens but as a national emergency requiring collective concern.

    Falz expressed particular concern over victims of recent abductions, noting that some kidnapped schoolchildren and residents remain unaccounted for months after being taken.

    According to him:

    “We stepped out yesterday to protest wors£ning levels of ins£curity and mass @bductions around the country. What was wild to see was that Tinubu and his supporters had rented a crowd of counter protesters the majority of which were women. These women have children. Incase you don’t know why we are out there protesting. The children that were taken from schools in Oyo state, they still have not been found.”

    The rapper went on to reference reports of violent attacks in parts of the country, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing security crisis and the need for sustained public attention.

    He continued:

    “Let me put this in perspective for you. There is a community called Woro in Kwara state. February 3rd into 4th this year, this same year o, by 5:30 pm, !nsurgents att@cked this community, now from 5:30 pm overnight into the next morning, there was a sustained att@ck where they m@$$acr£d people. About 200 people were k!||£d. And do you know how many people were taken away? About a 176 people were taken away. These people are still in c@pt!vity.”

    Urging Nigerians to recognise the seriousness of the situation, Falz warned that no community is immune to the threat posed by insecurity if decisive action is not taken.

    He added:

    “It could be your ch!ldren tomorrow. It could eventually be your ch!ldren, just incase you don’t know what you are doing. This is the £nd of us if we allow this to continue….”

    The artist has long been one of Nigeria’s most vocal public figures on social and political issues, frequently using his platform to advocate for accountability, justice, and civic engagement. His latest comments have reignited conversations online about the country’s security challenges and the role citizens can play in demanding solutions.

    The lawyer-turned-rapper made his stance clear in a viral video circulating on social media, where he also urged governments at all levels to ensure justice for the victims of the killings that occurred in Kwara State on Tuesday, February 3.

    In the video, Falz expressed deep frustration with the state of the nation, criticising not just the Federal Government but also Nigerians, political leaders, and religious figures.

    According to him, the absence of arrests or prosecutions after such large-scale violence has made killings feel disturbingly routine.

    He also aimed at the Senate, faulting its position on the proposed amendment of the Electoral Act, while questioning the overall seriousness of leadership in addressing the country’s challenges.

    “I don’t know what’s wrong with us. And I don’t know when we’re going to wake up. I don’t know. I really don’t know.

    “The other day, nearly 200 people were killed in Kwara. The president just came, released a statement, a normal statement. ‘Oh, I’m saddened by the…

    “Bro, who has been arrested? Who has been prosecuted for this? Nobody. Nothing. Just carry on. You’re always sending people. What are they doing? Nothing!

    “They’re killing scores and scores of people every day. But today, people will go to church. Your Daddy G.O., your papa, will tell you to sit down there and pray. Pray that God will come and save you.

    “They’ve started campaigning for the next elections. ‘Relax, Tinubu is fixing Nigeria.’ He is? Okay,” Falz said partly.

    Nigeria’s music dominance once again took centre stage on Sunday night as the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) lit up the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos.

    Hosted by rapper and actor Falz, the ceremony brought together Africa’s biggest stars for a night that celebrated sound, culture and continental excellence.

    Stealing the spotlight was Rema, whose name echoed repeatedly through the hall after he emerged as one of the biggest winners of the evening.

    The Afrobeats superstar clinched three major awards, underlining his growing influence across Africa and beyond. Rema was crowned Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artist in Western Africa, and Best African Artistin R&B and Soul, a clean sweep that set the tone for the night.

    While Rema dominated individual honours, Burna Boy walked away with one of the ceremony’s most coveted prizes. The Grammy-winning star won Album of the Year for No Sign of Weakness, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s most consistent global exports.

    Burna Boy also shared another moment of triumph through collaboration, picking up Best African Collaboration alongside Shallipopi.

    Shallipopi had a memorable night of his own, adding Song of the Year to his growing list of accolades with his viral hit Laho. His wins reflected the increasing influence of street-pop sounds on the African music landscape.

    Veteran rapper Phyno continued to represent African hip-hop proudly after winning Best African Artiste in African Hip-Hop. Rising star Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artist of the Year, edging out a competitive list of nominees including Cysoul, Joshua Baraka, King Luca, L’Oiseau Rare, Lwah Ndlunkulu, Massamba Amadeus, Rym, Kunmie, and Fola. Meanwhile, fast-rising singer Chella earned the crowd’s love after emerging African Fans’ Favourite.

    Other Nigerian acts who recorded wins on the night include Yemi Alade, Qing Madi, Phyno and Chella, reinforcing Nigeria’s strong presence at the pan-African awards ceremony.

    Falz had taken to social media shortly after the president’s official statement on X, which reported the safe return of 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, and 51 Catholic school students from Niger State who were earlier declared missing.

    While he acknowledged the relief that comes with the victims’ rescue, the rapper wondered why no information had been shared about the individuals behind the attacks.

    To him, celebrating the rescue was important, but Nigerians also deserved clarity on whether the perpetrators had been tracked down, arrested, or neutralised.

    President Tinubu, in his statement, noted that he had cancelled his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to coordinate security efforts at home. He praised the security agencies for their work in the past few days and assured citizens that he remains fully involved in monitoring nationwide security developments.

    The president further reiterated his commitment to protecting the lives of Nigerians, declaring that he would “not relent” until the nation is secure.

    Falz’s demand follows a string of violent incidents, including the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State; the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State; and the terrorist attack on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch in Kwara State.

    The rapper made the statement on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), where he drew attention to a 2014 tweet by Tinubu.

    At the time, Tinubu, then an opposition figure, had urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign for failing to tackle insecurity.

    In a pointed reference to the president’s past words, Falz quoted the exact message Tinubu once directed at Jonathan:
    “You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!”

    Falz’s post has sparked wide-ranging reactions online as conversations around Nigeria’s worsening insecurity continue to intensify.

    The tweet in question dates back to November 2014 seven months after the Chibok schoolgirls were kidnapped. In it, Tinubu wrote: “Why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”

    That wasn’t the first time he voiced such criticism. Earlier that year, during a speech in Ilorin, Tinubu had openly accused the Jonathan administration of dishonesty and incompetence in handling the Boko Haram crisis. He said:
    “I saw the sea of displaced persons caused by the Boko Haram insurgents and the lies coming from Jonathan’s administration. They have exhibited failure, lack of capacity, vision, creativity; the lie of yesterday is what they repeat today.”

    He also questioned how insurgents could seize Nigerian territory while the President remained Commander-in-Chief, insisting:
    “If you control the armed forces… why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”

    Falz’s recent criticism lands at a time when national anger is boiling over renewed attacks. The killings and abductions in Kebbi—including the death of a vice principal—and the assault on a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch in Kwara State have deepened fears about growing insecurity under the current administration.

    The rapper’s comments also line up with the international spotlight now falling on Nigeria’s security struggles. Just a day earlier, American rapper Nicki Minaj addressed the United Nations alongside U.S. Ambassador Michael Waltz, urging urgent action to protect Nigerian Christians from persecution.

    She emphasized peace, unity, and freedom of worship, while also acknowledging former U.S. President Donald Trump for drawing attention to the crisis.
