Enzo Maresca has confirmed that midfielder Enzo Fernandez apologized to his Chelsea teammates over an offensive chant he posted upon arriving at pre-season training.

Fernandez faced significant controversy after Argentina’s Copa America triumph for sharing a video of himself and teammates singing a chant deemed “racist and discriminatory” by the French Football Federation.

Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana publicly expressed disappointment with Fernandez’s actions, leading some French teammates to unfollow him on social media. But thinking about it a little bit, day after day, you can understand that there was not any bad intention because they know Enzo is better than me. They know Enzo is a good guy.”

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca remains confident that midfielder Enzo Fernandez will seamlessly reintegrate into the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States, despite the ongoing investigation into allegations of racism.

Fernandez had issued an apology after posting a live video in which he and several Argentinian teammates sang a song following their Copa America win that questioned the backgrounds of France’s black and mixed-race players.

Moises Caicedo has revealed that a phone conversation with Enzo Fernandez played a crucial role in his decision to choose Chelsea over Liverpool this summer.

While Chelsea and Brighton engaged in prolonged negotiations and Liverpool initially secured a fee agreement for Caicedo during the transfer window, the player opted not to engage in discussions with Liverpool.

Instead, he focused exclusively on Chelsea, patiently waiting until the Blues reached a British-record fee of £115m to secure his move to Stamford Bridge.

Apart from the commitment he had already given, Caicedo’s decision was influenced by a phone call with Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea’s former record signing. This additional factor seems to have played a significant role in swaying Caicedo towards choosing Chelsea over Liverpool.

“I want to win many trophies with this club, the Champions League, the Premier League,” Caicedo said.

Fernandez added: “I won many trophies so young and in such a short time as a professional, but that’s already in the past. I already forgot about it and we’re now on a quest for more.

Interim manager Frank Lampard has called on Enzo Fernandez to be a ‘leader’ for Chelsea in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Real Madrid.

The Blues are in terrible form heading into their match with the European champions, having lost their past four Premier League games, including Lampard’s first game in charge against Wolves at the weekend, which Chelsea defeated 1-0.

Before the match against Real Madrid, Lampard urged the club’s record-signing to be present on Wednesday night to put an end to the rot.

“Chelsea brought in some younger players throughout this season, we had to give them a chance at developing into the leaders we want them to be,” Lampard told the assembled media.

“Enzo is becoming a leader, but he’s 22, I think it’s quite difficult for us to talk about that, he’ll have to find his way. Games like tonight are a great chance to perform and show the personality that makes you a proper leader.
