    Efya emphasized that Nigeria’s numerical advantage places its music industry ahead of the Ghanaian market. She suggested that rather than making comparisons, the two West African countries should focus on collaboration.

    “In the capacity of numbers, Lagos is bigger than Ghana. It is like the music hub itself. Nigerians are way bigger than we are. So, usually when I see people comparing, I’m like, ‘Do you guys know?’

    “There shouldn’t be any comparisons. What I believe that we should is that we should be more collaborative. Find our vibes and put them together to advance what Afrobeats is going to be in the future; for us to be the gatekeepers of our own sound. And I think that’s the power move.”

    Ghanaian singer-songwriter, Wendy Shay has spoken out against the objectification of women in the music industry, calling it unfair treatment, and stated her thoughts about it.

    In a recent interview on Berla Mundi’s Day Show on TV3, the self-proclaimed dancehall queen expressed her displeasure with the labelling of female musicians as ‘female artistes,’ while their male counterparts are simply referred to as ‘artistes.’

    Wendy Shay strongly pushed for equal treatment, claiming that women in the music industry put in just as much, if not more, effort as men do and should be treated equally as musicians.

    “It is not fair. First of all, I don’t even like the fact that people go like ‘female artistes’ because you don’t see our male counterparts being labeled as ‘male artistes’. They are seen as artistes so we should be seen as such. We are artistes,” she suggested.

    She emphasized the dedication and efforts of female musicians like Sister Efya and herself, saying that they put in a lot of effort and sweat and deserve to be recognized for their work.

    “Putting that aside, I think it’s not fair because there are so many women who are really working hard; like me, Wendy Shay. We have artistes like Sister Efya working hard. It’s about time Ghanaians or this part of our world acknowledge the hard work, effort and sweat we put in,” she mentioned.

    Wendy Shay addressed the difficulties women still face in this region of the world in achieving leadership positions and acknowledged that there is still a cultural mentality that equates women with mostly domestic responsibilities.

    She did, however, express optimism that with time and development, society will advance to accept and value the contributions of women in leadership roles across a variety of industries, including music.

    Ghanaian singer-songwriter Efya explained why she is unable to perform on ‘big stages’ with Nigerian superstar Wizkid, in response to reports that she and R2bees frequently spend quality time with Big Wiz when he is in Ghana, but are always absent when he performs internationally.

    The issue arose when Bullgod, an artist manager, expressed concern over not seeing Efya and R2bees on stage with Wizkid during his recent show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite their close bond with the Nigerian musician.

    Bullgod, the owner of Bullhaus Entertainment, was baffled as to why the Ghanaian performers, who frequently spend time with Wizkid when he visits Ghana, were not performing alongside him on the global stage.

    “So R2Bees and Efya will smoke, drink and chill with Wizkid anytime he’s in Ghana but can’t join him on international stages and showcase their talents to the world? Again Ghana missed out on national duties at the 62,850 capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, yesterday. What is wrong with us?” Bullgod shared on Facebook.

    The post generated debates on entertainment talk radio and television programs over why Ghanaian musicians weren’t featured.

    In response to the conversation, Efya took to Twitter to clarify the complexities of musicians’ schedules and commitments.

    She explained that a variety of variables, such as competing schedules, prior commitments, and logistical constraints, can make it difficult to accompany Wizkid at every international performance.

    “When it comes to performing on big stages, there are various factors involved that people may not be aware of. Scheduling conflicts, prior commitments, and logistical constraints sometimes make it challenging to accompany Wizkid on every single performance. It doesn’t diminish my dedication or the fact that I have also played on countless international stages,” she tweeted.

    “As an artist, I have a multifaceted career that encompasses my own music, projects, and obligations. While I value my friendship and artistic connection with Wizkid, I also have my own aspirations and commitments in the music industry. It is essential to strike a balance and prioritize professional growth and individual endeavors.”

    “It is disheartening to be ridiculed based on misunderstandings and assumptions. I hope this thread provides clarity and sheds light on the intricacies of the music industry. Let us focus on celebrating each other’s achievements rather than perpetuating unnecessary controversies,” she stated.

    Efya noted that these difficulties do not lessen her commitment or the fact that she has already performed at multiple international stages.

    The singer firmly asserted that she and DJ Tunez founded the amapiano genre in a recent interview with Adesope on the Afrobeats Podcast.

    “I would say Tunez and I started the amapiano thing when we did that first tape in 2019. Before Covid, Tunez and I started making that kind of sound and then we kept going, then South Africans. There have been so many things I’ve been involved in,” she said.

    There is no way this lady started amapiano, responded Maero, co-founder of MFR Souls in response to the claim. She might wish to become famous, but it is impossible. People are aware that amapiano originates from South Africa.

    “Amapiano is a mix of kwaito and deep house, and kwaito is a South African genre. And even the origins of kwaito are from South Africa. So, as I said, there’s no way a Ghanaian musician came up with amapiano,” said.

    “When we started the genre didn’t have a name because it wasn’t a familiar sound. It just was keys and no vocals and then people started calling amapiano.”

    Here is the full list of winners at the 23rd edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, which took place on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the Grand Arena in Accra.

    The 23rd edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, which was held on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 8, 2022, in Accra’s Grand Arena, was a memorable award ceremony that saw some of Ghana’s top celebrities come together to honour African music.

    The first night of the event saw Fameye, Wizkid, Kweisey Pee, Stonebwoy and MOG Beatz take home awards.

    On the second night, KiDi, Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Kofi Kinaata, Sefa, and other artists received awards.

    The Nigerian award-winning artist, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, has achieved a new Apple Music accomplishment with his latest album, “Horoscopes.”

    Basketmouth upgraded his game by becoming one of the top A&R in the modern Nigerian music market, backed up with a strong project titled ‘Yabasi,’ among other hits, which he released in 2020.

    So The comedian/A&R continues to reach new heights with his most recent project, ‘Horoscopes,’ which has been named Apple Music’s album of the month.

    The 9-track project, which features heavyweights such as 2Baba, M.I. Abaga, Simi, Reekado Banks, BNXN (Buju), Falz, Oxlade, Efya, Magnito, IllBliss, Dremo, Blaqbonez, Peruzzi, Flavour, and others, has been topping charts since it was released.

    The album has been declared Apple Music’s “Album of the Month” for the month of February.
