Ghanaian songstress Efya has openly shared her frustration with toxic relationships and fake friendships that have entered her life. In a post on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, the “Best in Me” hitmaker expressed her disappointment with individuals who deliberately enter one’s life with the intention of exploiting them for personal gain.

Efya revealed that people she considered part of her inner circle turned out to harbor negativity and malicious intentions behind her back. She highlighted the deceptive nature of these individuals, who would put on a facade of loyalty and friendship in her presence but engage in backbiting and betrayal when she wasn’t around.

This realization has led Efya to become more cautious in her approach to relationships, heightening her awareness of the people she allows into her life. Her candid expression resonates with many who have experienced similar challenges in navigating complex and sometimes deceptive social dynamics.

Mr Eazi recently opened up in an interview about the advice Wizkid gave him when Jay Z’s Roc Nation expressed interest in signing his hit song ‘Skin Tight,’ on which he featured Efya.

According to Mr Eazi, when Roc Nation showed interest, Wizkid advised him to only consider the deal if it offered life-changing money.

Taking Wizkid’s advice into consideration and considering his career goals, Mr Eazi decided not to sign the deal, even though the amount may have been considered substantial at that point in his career. This insight into the decision-making process sheds light on the strategic thinking and long-term vision that artists consider in their careers.

Ghanaian artist Efya has shared her perspective on the comparisons between the music industries in Ghana and Nigeria. In a recent interview with City 105.1 FM in Lagos, she asserted that, in terms of numbers, both in population and online streaming reach, Lagos is “bigger” than Ghana.

Efya emphasized that Nigeria’s numerical advantage places its music industry ahead of the Ghanaian market. She suggested that rather than making comparisons, the two West African countries should focus on collaboration.

Her comments reflect a nuanced understanding of the dynamics between the two music industries and advocate for a more cooperative approach rather than a competitive one.

Efya said, “Nigerian and Ghanaian music markets are not the same. Nigerians are way more than we are in terms of numbers. Numbers really matter now. The number of people that will stream Nigerian music in Nigeria is different from the number of people that will stream Ghanaian music in Ghana. The numbers are not the same.

“In the capacity of numbers, Lagos is bigger than Ghana. It is like the music hub itself. Nigerians are way bigger than we are. So, usually when I see people comparing, I’m like, ‘Do you guys know?’

“There shouldn’t be any comparisons. What I believe that we should is that we should be more collaborative. Find our vibes and put them together to advance what Afrobeats is going to be in the future; for us to be the gatekeepers of our own sound. And I think that’s the power move.”

Ghanaian singer and multiple award-winner, Efya, has confidently asserted her position as one of the best performers in Africa.

During an interview on Hitz FM with Andy Dosty on November 16, 2023, Efya emphasized that she consistently gives her best whenever she’s called upon to perform.

When asked about her ability to thrive as an independent artist, Efya credited her success to divine favor and her commitment to delivering stellar performances.

She stated, “God has been good, and every opportunity I get to perform anywhere, I make sure that I put my best foot forward so I’m invited back, and through that, I get more gigs.”

Efya further expressed her belief in being one of the best performers in Africa, asserting that her dedication to excellence justifies such confidence.

In addition to discussing her career, Efya addressed the limited involvement of female investors in the music industry in Ghana. She issued a plea for more active participation from female investors, highlighting the scarcity of women as financial backers for musicians.

While specific reasons for this trend were not discussed, Efya passionately advocated for increased female engagement in the traditionally male-dominated music industry.

Ghanaian singer, Efya takes a leap into the beaming light with her latest studio body of work, No More Tears (EP) – a power-packed project of four tracks.

No More Tears highlights Efya’s development, her capacity for perseverance, and the knowledge she has gained from her challenges.

The project transports listeners on an emotional trip that reflects Efya’s resiliency and her coming out of a dark place.

“This EP marks a new day in my journey as an artist,” says Efya. It means that the days of crying are over and happiness and success will continue. I want my audience to lose themselves in the melody and words, letting them take on a central role in their own narratives.

Worthy of note is a fact that Efya has discovered her perfect musical collaborator in Nigerian producer LOUDA, who is the brains behind the beats. Their collaboration in this EP transcends limitations and defies expectations with a profound resonance. The end product is a beautifully balanced blend of soul, spirituality, and unadulterated emotion that profoundly affects everyone who hears it.

Without an iota of doubt, this potential new phase in Efya’s career should propel her to even higher heights.

Ghanaian singer-songwriter, Wendy Shay has spoken out against the objectification of women in the music industry, calling it unfair treatment, and stated her thoughts about it.

In a recent interview on Berla Mundi’s Day Show on TV3, the self-proclaimed dancehall queen expressed her displeasure with the labelling of female musicians as ‘female artistes,’ while their male counterparts are simply referred to as ‘artistes.’

Wendy Shay strongly pushed for equal treatment, claiming that women in the music industry put in just as much, if not more, effort as men do and should be treated equally as musicians.

“It is not fair. First of all, I don’t even like the fact that people go like ‘female artistes’ because you don’t see our male counterparts being labeled as ‘male artistes’. They are seen as artistes so we should be seen as such. We are artistes,” she suggested.

She emphasized the dedication and efforts of female musicians like Sister Efya and herself, saying that they put in a lot of effort and sweat and deserve to be recognized for their work.

“Putting that aside, I think it’s not fair because there are so many women who are really working hard; like me, Wendy Shay. We have artistes like Sister Efya working hard. It’s about time Ghanaians or this part of our world acknowledge the hard work, effort and sweat we put in,” she mentioned.

Wendy Shay addressed the difficulties women still face in this region of the world in achieving leadership positions and acknowledged that there is still a cultural mentality that equates women with mostly domestic responsibilities.

She did, however, express optimism that with time and development, society will advance to accept and value the contributions of women in leadership roles across a variety of industries, including music.

Ghanaian singer-songwriter Efya explained why she is unable to perform on ‘big stages’ with Nigerian superstar Wizkid, in response to reports that she and R2bees frequently spend quality time with Big Wiz when he is in Ghana, but are always absent when he performs internationally.

The issue arose when Bullgod, an artist manager, expressed concern over not seeing Efya and R2bees on stage with Wizkid during his recent show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite their close bond with the Nigerian musician.

Bullgod, the owner of Bullhaus Entertainment, was baffled as to why the Ghanaian performers, who frequently spend time with Wizkid when he visits Ghana, were not performing alongside him on the global stage.

“So R2Bees and Efya will smoke, drink and chill with Wizkid anytime he’s in Ghana but can’t join him on international stages and showcase their talents to the world?

The post generated debates on entertainment talk radio and television programs over why Ghanaian musicians weren’t featured.

In response to the conversation, Efya took to Twitter to clarify the complexities of musicians’ schedules and commitments.

She explained that a variety of variables, such as competing schedules, prior commitments, and logistical constraints, can make it difficult to accompany Wizkid at every international performance.

“When it comes to performing on big stages, there are various factors involved that people may not be aware of.

“As an artist, I have a multifaceted career that encompasses my own music, projects, and obligations.

“It is disheartening to be ridiculed based on misunderstandings and assumptions.
Efya, a famous Ghanaian singer, asserts that she created the well-known Amapiano genre in South Africa and meanwhile, Unquestionably, South Africa is where the genre originated, and there is a documentary on its history. Some SA piano performers have even discussed the sound and its origins in interviews.

The singer firmly asserted that she and DJ Tunez founded the amapiano genre in a recent interview with Adesope on the Afrobeats Podcast.

“I would say Tunez and I started the amapiano thing when we did that first tape in 2019. Before Covid, Tunez and I started making that kind of sound and then we kept going, then South Africans. There have been so many things I’ve been involved in,” she said.

There is no way this lady started amapiano, responded Maero, co-founder of MFR Souls in response to the claim. She might wish to become famous, but it is impossible. People are aware that amapiano originates from South Africa.

“Amapiano is a mix of kwaito and deep house, and kwaito is a South African genre. And even the origins of kwaito are from South Africa. So, as I said, there’s no way a Ghanaian musician came up with amapiano,” said.

“When we started the genre didn’t have a name because it wasn’t a familiar sound. It just was keys and no vocals and then people started calling amapiano.”
