Renowned Afrobeats artist Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, recently stressed the pivotal role of local infrastructure in sustaining the global triumph of Afrobeats.

In a compelling conversation with Cool FM’s Do2tun on Tuesday, December 11, the talented singer expressed concern about the absence of robust infrastructure in Nigeria, particularly highlighting the desire for international fans to witness live performances within the country.

Fireboy emphasized the necessity of establishing world-class arenas in cities like Lagos to foster global connections. He voiced his thoughts, stating, “Everyone is saying ‘Afrobeats to the world.’ The music is perfect. But there is no structure. The [foreign] fans are listening to our music, but when are they going to come to Lagos and watch us perform? When are we going to have arenas in Lagos where we can bring people from all around the world? You know, it [structure] will make everything just easier.”

During the interview, Fireboy opened up about the challenges he encounters as an entertainer. Despite his passion for his craft and the inspiration it provides, he confessed his dislike for the extensive travel and socialising inherent in the life of an artist.

“I love what I do, but I don’t like the process. I love that my work takes me places, but the process of travelling? No. I don’t even like going out and interacting with people that much. So having to submit my passport and all those things don’t appeal to me,” shared the ‘Peru’ hitmaker.

The 27-year-old artist delved into the specifics of his highly successful tour in Australia, which comprised three shows. Starting with a performance at Promiseland in Gold Coast on September 30, 2023, Fireboy headlined two consecutive sold-out shows, captivating audiences across different locations.

Reflecting on the demanding nature of the tour, Fireboy disclosed that upon returning to Nigeria, he recognized the toll extensive travel takes on his well-being. “It was a very crazy trip, long and far. When I got back, I was like, ‘You know what? I need to take a break from travelling.’ I took like two days off and decided to stop,” shedding light on the physical and mental strain associated with constant travel.
