Speaking during an interview with Echo Room, the rapper revealed that the label’s structure heavily revolved around its founder, Davido, leaving other artists to find their own footing.

According to Dremo, the label functioned more like a platform than a fully supportive system, as he struggled to achieve his personal goals during his time there. He added that the experience ultimately influenced his decision to go independent and take full control of his career.

He also spoke about the lack of collaboration within the label, noting that even among label mates like Idowest, joint efforts were rare as everyone was focused on surviving in the industry.

“I didn’t collaborate with Idowest who was my label mate and fellow rapper because at that time we were all striving to stay afloat in the music industry. Even DMW as a whole didn’t collaborate much, we never had a record label album. The management focused only on Davido. The label didn’t give me money. It was like a platform. I didn’t get what I wanted from the label,” he said.

Dremo’s revelations offer a rare behind-the-scenes look into the workings of one of Nigeria’s biggest record labels, while highlighting the challenges artists sometimes face within major music camps.

Speaking on a new episode of the American podcast Bag Fuel Brigade, Davido recalled living alone with his father in their massive 16-bedroom mansion after his siblings moved abroad.

During that time, he revealed he secretly built a music studio inside the house — without his father’s knowledge.

Singer Daniella Daniel, better known as Morravey and signed under Davido’s record label DMW, revealed that she abandoned her studies in medicine and surgery while in her third year at Rivers State University to pursue a career in music.

Morravey shared this revelation during an interview with City 105.1FM following the release of her debut EP, “Ravi,” which consists of five tracks.

In January 2023, Morravey attended a church program where she prayed and fasted, expressing her dissatisfaction with her studies in medicine and surgery, which she felt was negatively impacting her life. She told God that if He wanted her to continue studying the course, He should reignite her passion for it. Otherwise, she would pursue music with His guidance.

Davido later reached out to Morravey, which she interpreted as a sign from God that she should leave her medical studies. At the time, she was about to enter her third year at Rivers State University. Morravey sought help from Davido to talk to her parents about her decision, and ultimately, she left school.

In an exclusive interview with Turntable Charts, the Port Harcourt-bred singer, who was just signed to Davido Music Worldwide 2.0 (DMW), discussed how the multi-award-winning musician Davido came across her.

Morravey, who was introduced with a feature on Davido’s ‘Timeless‘ fourth studio album on the popular song ‘In The Garden,’ claimed that the signing was not something she had anticipated because it began with a cover she had intended to record.

She claimed that a friend of hers posted her preparing to record a cover of a song on social media, which went viral and was shared by the country’s most popular blogs. Morravey stated that this is what Davido saw before sending her a message saying her voice was wonderful, and the rest, as they say, was history.

She said: “I was practising to make a cover of a song, [and] my friend was videoing without me knowing. So, weeks later, when we couldn’t post that particular song, he posted that video [the part] where I was not showing in it. When he posted it, it was everywhere.

On March 31, 2023, the DMW boss dropped his fourth studio album. The eagerly awaited 17-track album comes after the award-winning singer, who has solidified himself as Africa’s most potent hitmaker, had an unusually quiet time.

The 17-track album is the fourth in Davido’s renowned discography, after “A Better Time,” “A Good Time,” and “Omo Baba Olowo (The Genesis).”
