Recent sources claim that Manchester United is getting closer to luring Sergio Reguilon away from Tottenham on a temporary basis.

Manchester United have announced that defender Diogo Dalot has signed a new contract with the club until June 2028 with the option for a further year.

The Portuguese international Dalot, who is mostly a right full-back but can also play on the left side, has had a successful season under new United coach Erik ten Hag, and the Dutchman has been eager to complete a move for the player.

Diogo Dalot acknowledged that Manchester United “lost composure” and lamented the “mistakes” that caused their sad defeat to Tottenham.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford had given United the lead at the conclusion of the first half, but shoddy defending allowed Tottenham to stage a valiant comeback via Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min.

Erik ten Hag’s team dropped to fourth position after the draw with the London team, two points back of Newcastle United in third.

After Aaron Wan-Bissaka was substituted, Dalot was moved to his natural position on the right after starting as a left-back.

The Portuguese full-back did, however, acknowledge that after the break, they let up a bit, which allowed Spurs to rescue a point from the game.

“It’s very disappointing to look back on what we did in the first half and not get out of there with three points. We should have done much better. These are the types of mistakes we cannot make, especially having two goals [ahead],” Dalot told MUTV.

“We have to focus on ourselves and if we could have controlled [the second half] like we controlled the first half, the game could have become easier for us. I think we lost that composure to find spaces, to keep the ball, to go through their press. We have to look back on this 45 minutes and learn from it.”

Dalot asserted that United will turn their fortunes around when they faced high-flying Aston Villa at the weekend and that the Tottenham setback is already in the past.

“We’re going to be [ready], for sure. We have professional players and all the conditions to recover. This is the type of schedule we’re going to face if we want to be fighting for every competition so we have to manage that. We have a big squad ready to play the games. You have to be fit and then the manager will decide who is going to play,” he added.

I think this was a feeling that the time would come one day and we had to be ready. And I think everybody showed quality, some character under pressure. Because it is difficult. Because behind were the Brighton fans screaming at you, you had to focus. So we showed personality and I am really happy with everyone that we scored the penalties and we are in the final.

“We showed character and tactically we were very good. We knew we had to be patient with the ball. They were trying to find spaces. Brighton are a fantastic team, they play really good football. We had to be aggressive in the duels. And today, we showed that we want it. We showed desire. And that responsibility has to be every game. We have to be more consistent if we want to win every trophy.”

Dalot showed no sign of nerves when firing his penalty into the corner of the net, with the 24-year-old adding when asked if he knew where he was going to place his effort before stepping up: “Usually, I decide last minute. Before the Sevilla game, we trained penalties and yesterday, I felt like that side was more comfortable, so I took it. I choose one side and I believed in it and put it strong so the keeper could not save it. So I am happy that it went in.”

On June 3, United will face City in the first all-Manchester FA Cup final, but they have eight Premier League games to play in order to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League. That run is scheduled to begin away at Tottenham on Thursday.

Antony set up Dalot`s goal for United at the City Ground after a tremendous piece of skill and the duo celebrated the strike by shaking hands.

Antony had already set United on the path to victory with a close-range finish in the first half and Dalot’s goal effectively clinched the three points.

“It’s our thing, I’m happy I have a good relationship with him, he’s a fantastic kid, I like to be around him,” Dalot told reporters. “We spoke today that he was going to score, we were not expecting I was going to score as well, we both did and we were happy with that.”

Antony has struggled to justify his £85 million price tag in his first season at Old Trafford and until Sunday had not scored in the Premier League since October, while he had no assists in the league. Dalot said he is slowly but surely settling in.

“I think everybody is seeing he’s getting his rewards now,” the defender explained. “He works very hard every day to be at this top level. He fights for the team, he is a team player for sure I think everybody can see that and he’s getting his rewards. I’m sure he will be very helpful for us, today he showed with the goal and the assist that he’s a very important player for us.”

Dalot added: “I tried my best [to help Antony adapt], I was not the main character on his journey so far, he was and he still is, but I think everybody helped him to get comfortable. He knew the manager already, so he knew how he likes to play and how he wants to play, we tried to help him settle in quickly and we’re very happy with him.”

United travel to Sevilla in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday after drawing 2-2 last week at Old Trafford.
