“A statement made by our technical director Jose Mourinho after the match was completely taken out of context, and an attempt was made to deliberately distort it,” the club responded.

“Trying to portray this statement as racist is a completely malicious approach.”

Amid the escalating controversy, Drogba, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea and also spent time at Galatasaray, voiced his support for the Portuguese tactician.

Didier Drogba, a legend of Chelsea, has criticized his old team for lacking “class” following a turbulent season that was essentially concluded with a meek Champions League elimination.

Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat by Real Madrid against the Blues gave the current European champions a comfortable 4-0 series victory. Chelsea has little left to play for after already losing in the semifinals of the domestic cup tournaments and currently occupying the 11th spot in the Premier League.

When Drogba was commentating on Tuesday’s game for the French network Canal+, the Ivorian acknowledged that he thought the team had regressed under the new management.

“I knew this club with a certain class during the [Roman] Abramovich era, but today I find it lacking,” Drogba said.

“It’s very hard for me to see how they got rid of certain people. They should go back to the principles and values they had. I no longer recognise my club.”

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital bought Chelsea, the club has undergone a period of fast transition. More than $500 million has been spent on the field, and the team is currently working with its third manager of the year.

The Premier League Hall of Fame has officially honoured Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger as its inaugural managers.

The duo won 16 Premier League titles between them across respective long-term spells with Manchester United and Arsenal.

Ferguson is the most accomplished manager in the competition’s history with 13 of their championships. He is the first manager to have achieved the Premier League’s Triple Title on two separate occasions.

Ferguson said: “I’m truly delighted to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. It’s an honour when you receive recognition like this. However, it’s not just about me as a person. It’s about the job at Manchester United and the bond we had over many years, so I’m also proud for the club, the staff and my players.

“My job was to send the fans home happy. United’s history and my own expectations were the things that drove me, and I then had to try and develop all my players with the same expectations and make sure we could go out and achieve them.

“I feel Arsene is a very worthy inductee as he transformed Arsenal Football Club fantastically. They became a tough team to compete with and we both wanted to win, which motivated us further. Through the years since retirement, we’d go for dinner together in a little restaurant he knows well in Switzerland. He is a really interesting man and I enjoy his company, but it is still my job to pick the wine!”

Wenger arrived in England as one of the Premier League’s first foreign coaches in 1996, swiftly proving sceptics wrong by converting Arsenal into title winners and influencing the culture of English football with his scouting and culinary skills.

At Arsenal, he won three Premier League titles, including an unbeaten ‘Invincibles season in 2003/04.

Wenger said: “I am very grateful to have been selected for the Premier League Hall of Fame. We always wanted to give something special to the fans and when you have players capable of remarkable things, the most important thing for me is the obligation of perfection.

“I’d like to be known as someone who loved Arsenal, who respected the values of the club and left it in a position where it can grow and become even bigger.

“To share this with Sir Alex is a great honour for me. It’s like two boxers, you fight like mad and go the distance together. At the end of the day, you have respect and it will be a great opportunity to meet with him, share a good bottle of wine and memories of our old battles.”

When the Hall of Fame was established in 2021, Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry were the first two individuals to be inducted. During that year, they were followed by David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, Frank Lampard, Dennis Bergkamp, and Steven Gerrard.

Inductees for 2022 were Ian Wright, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Didier Drogba, Vincent Kompany, Patrick Vieira, and Sergio Aguero.

Arsenal vs. Manchester United games lost their luster in 2011 when the Gunners arrived at Old Trafford for a Premier League game and were thrashed 8-2.

By that point, Arsenal had dropped out of the elite division of English football. At the same time, they continued to qualify for the Champions League consistently, they had not mounted a serious title push since 2008 and had not won a trophy since the FA Cup in 2005.

United were still at the peak of its powers then. Only a Didier Drogba goal that should have been flagged offside in 2010 and a late collapse against Everton in 2012 denied them what would have been an unprecedented five English titles in a row. As such, their games against an increasingly uncompetitive Arsenal became decreasingly meaningful.

Then came United’s own demise. Sir Alex Ferguson’s resignation in 2013 cleared the stage for nearly a decade of false dawns of new eras, wasteful spending, and underperformance.

Erik ten Hag’s arrival in 2022 was the first time identity and mental toughness were restored. Mikel Arteta, of course, has had a similar impact at Arsenal over a little longer period of time.

But in the intervening years, people cared less and less about Arsenal and Manchester United as a fixture. Not when Manchester City and Liverpool were starting to set new standards in the Premier League and Chelsea continued to be there or thereabouts most of the time.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, the Premier League game was the one that everyone sought on the schedule. Both would invariably be contending for the title, and each meeting would have a significant impact on how a given season played out.

Furthermore, many of the best matches in the Premier League and/or the most memorable moments occurred when Arsenal and Manchester United competed because of the stakes involved when they joined forces.

The five-goal thriller played this past Sunday at the Emirates Stadium served as a much-needed reminder to the rest of football of what Arsenal vs. Manchester United matches should be about.

To begin with, it had value within the wider context of the season. The league leaders, who are also the favourites to win the title, were facing a quickly developing team that had been defeated just once since the beginning of October in all competitions.

The players on the pitch didn’t disappoint either. Both vibrant teams wanted to win the game and win it in the right way. They each attacked and it swung back and forth to keep both sets of fans and neutrals on the edge of their seats.

Marcus Rashford gave United the lead, but Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka gave Arsenal the lead back with two of their own. Big players put on big performances. Lisandro Martinez’s goal for the Red Devils brought them to a point of parity, but Nketiah’s second goal for the Gunners at the very end of the game gave them the victory and brought them one step closer to the title.

It was about time that the games between them brought some of the old spice back, and long may it continue given the trips both teams had been on.

New Chelsea signing, Joao Felix has revealed his favourite three Chelsea stars. The player has named the likes of Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, and Eden Hazard as three non-Portuguese Blues stars he likes.

Felix joined Chelsea on a loan deal from Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

The Portugal international will remain at Stamford Bridge until the end of the season.

His deal at Chelsea did not include an option-to-buy clause and he will therefore be expected to return to Atletico Madrid next season.

Asked about Chelsea stars from the past, Felix said in a video on the club’s website on Wednesday, “Chelsea players that I remember, I can say Portuguese players: Deco, Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira, and [Raul] Meireles.

He added: “But there are other players that are not Portuguese that I like too, like [Eden] Hazard, Frank Lampard, [Didier] Drogba.”

Former Chelsea player Didier Drogba believes France has a key “advantage” over Argentina ahead of the World Cup final in Qatar.

On Sunday, France will take on Argentina at the Lusail Stadium in an effort to retain the World Cup title for the first time in 60 years.

The team led Group D and defeated Poland, England, and Morocco to advance to the knockout rounds under Didier Deschamps.

Argentina won Group C despite an unexpected loss to Saudi Arabia in the opening match and defeated Australia, Netherlands, and Croatia on their way to a sixth World Cup final.

In Lionel Messi’s final World Cup, Argentina will try to win the trophy a third time, while France will try to become just the third team to successfully defend the title.

With eleven members of France’s 2018 team and World Cup-winning manager Deschamps participating in Qatar, Drogba believes that France has an “edge” over Argentina due to their previous experience of not just reaching but also winning the final.

Chelsea former football player Didier Drogba has accused his former club of ‘lacking class’ under new owner Todd Boehly.

Chelsea was acquired from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich by a group headed by American investor Boehly and private equity company Clearlake Capital earlier this year.

Boehly was taking his first move into top football by purchasing Premier League club Chelsea. Boehly is a part-owner of the NBA team Los Angeles Lakers and the seven-time baseball champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Following spending more than £250 million on new additions throughout the summer, the 48-year-old has had a busy start to his time at Stamford Bridge, dismissing manager Thomas Tuchel after just seven games of the 2022–23 season.

Boehly has drawn criticism for making the suggestion that the Premier League hold a North vs. South All-Star game and for allegedly firing several Chelsea backroom staffers, including their chief physio and head of medical.

Drogba, one of many iconic Chelsea players who got along well with former Blues owner Roman Abramovich, thinks the club at Stamford Bridge is ‘lacking quality’ now that the Russian has been replaced.

Drogba, who won four league titles and the Champions League at Chelsea, has pinpointed his opinion on the blues while speaking in Canal+, he said:
