Chelsea manager Graham Potter has admitted he does not yet know whether Enzo Fernandez will be able to make his debut against Fulham on Friday.

Fernandez arrived in England on Wednesday after completing a £106 million transfer from Benfica on deadline day. Blues fans have been pleading with Potter to start Fernandez right away to help the team’s struggling midfield, which is currently without Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, and Denis Zakaria due to injury.

However, in his pre-match press conference, Potter admitted Fernandez is not currently cleared to play but refused to rule out a change in the situation soon.

“We’ll see,” Potter said of Fernandez’s possible involvement. “We’ve got to go through the paperwork and get the clearance and all that.”

As Chelsea and Benfica bargained through the night on Deadline Day, Potter acknowledged he was as ignorant as everyone else, saying he had no idea whether a deal would be reached.

“I’m the head coach so I don’t get too involved in the nitty gritty of Deadline Day,“ he explained. “I am focused on the next day’s training and preparing the team for Fulham.

“I’ve been involved too long to know that there are some things you can’t control and I couldn’t do anything at that point to change things. I found out when it was done and I’m very pleased, because [Fernandez] is a fantastic player.

“My Spanish isn’t great and his English isn’t great, but we’ll get there. He is an impressive young man and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

On his Chelsea debut, Mykhailo Mudryk set a new benchmark for Premier League pace merchants, becoming the fastest player in England so far this season.

The Ukrainian winger came in for the final 35 minutes of Saturday’s goalless draw with Liverpool and looked brilliant in his maiden appearance in English football.

According to Opta, the 22-year-old appeared to be incredibly fast, as he achieved a top speed of 22.76mph, beating Everton’s Anthony Gordon’s best speed of 22.74pmh.

Darwin Nunez (22.68mph), Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (22.50mph), and Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria round out the top five in Premier League pace this season (22.42).

After being knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round by Manchester City, the Blues now have a week off before facing Fulham in the Premier League on the 3rd of February.

Following his £88 million transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk, Mudryk will aim to play a part right away in that match, although Chelsea manager Graham Potter acknowledges it may take him some time to adjust.

‘Mudryk hasn’t played since November so it would have been a risk to start him but he was very good coming on.

‘He’s only had two sessions with us and will get better the more he understands us and vice-versa. He can get supporters off their seats. His dribbling actions are high and knows where the goal is.

‘Our job is to help settling him into the country and the team. He and Joao Felix are top players. Coaches don’t magically turn them into good players, it’s just about helping them fine-tune.’

Switzerland has unveiled their official 26-men World Cup Squad as they prepare to travel to Qatar for its fifth straight World Cup appearance.

With the FIFA World Cup in Qatar just a week away, all the participating nations are starting to announce their final squads for the tournament.

On the 9th of November 2022, Coach Murat Yakin will lean on experience at the World Cup in Qatar naming Switzerland’s final 26-man squad for the Qatar tournament, which included Granit Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Chelsea on-loan midfielder Denis Zakaria in a 26-man squad for this month’s tournament.

The Swiss kick off their FIFA World Cup campaign in Group G and face Cameroon on Thursday, 24 November, at the Al Wakrah Sports Complex.

Switzerland, which has entered the quarterfinal twice in tournament history, qualified for the tournament after topping the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification UEFA Group C, ahead of European champion Italy.

Chelsea Head coach Graham Potter has admitted that he is worried about how badly Ben Chilwell’s hamstring was hurt during Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb.

The Blues overcame an early deficit to secure their 100th Champions League victory with goals from Raheem Sterling and debutant Denis Zakaria.

While Chelsea had already secured the top spot in Group E, their success in West London ensured that they finished three points clear of AC Milan.

However, a successful night ended on a low note as Chilwell pulled up sharply with a hamstring injury in the third minute of added-on time.

The left-back is now a serious doubt for the World Cup, which starts later this month, even though he will virtually likely miss the forthcoming tripleheader with Arsenal, Manchester City, and Newcastle United.

Although Potter wants to wait until Chilwell has undergone a scan, the Chelsea boss admitted that it was “not looking positive”.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Potter said: “Not great. When he pulls up like that it’s a concern. We need to scan but it’s not positive at the moment.”

Later in the media briefing, Potter added: “He didn’t play at the weekend so there was a thought he could play tonight and have enough time to recover. We’ve tried to manage him. He’s not played three games in a week and has had the build up that he needs. It’s frustrating and it’s a blow for him.”

Before that setback for the club, player and the Three Lions, Zakaria enjoyed a strong 70 minutes on his first appearance since joining on loan from Juventus in September.

Before being substituted with what Potter claimed to be a minor “contact” injury, the Switzerland international frequently combined nicely with Jorginho in addition to scoring a goal with a cool finish.

The Englishman said the following about Zakaria: “He’s handled himself really well. Supported his team and teammates in a good way. Credit to him, everyone was so happy for him. It’s a great story for a whole group I think.”

Chelsea will now begin preparing for the upcoming Sunday London derby with Arsenal before difficult trips to play Manchester City in the EFL Cup and in-form Newcastle United in the top flight.

Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria scored on his debut as the Blues ended their Champions League Group E campaign with a 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, winning the group and ending the Croatians’ European campaign.

Edouard Mendy, starting for the first time under Graham Potter, got off to a terrible start when, seven minutes after Bruno Petkovic gave the visitors the lead with a header, he had to pluck the ball out of the Chelsea net.
