Mauricio Pochettino shrugged off Chelsea’s struggles against a nine-man Tottenham team and expressed his relief for hat-trick hero Nicolas Jackson.

The two London rivals were deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime, with a Cole Palmer penalty canceling out Dejan Kulusevski’s deflected opener. Jackson, the former Villarreal striker, had been enduring a frustrating night, but he came alive with 15 minutes remaining, putting Chelsea in the lead. If you look at everything you could see during the game, I think it was fair. It could be an important three points for us, to help us now start to push up the table.”

After Jackson joined the Blues in the summer for €35 million (£30 million/$38 million), he has battled with form. Pochettino is hoping that Jackson’s performance will relieve some of the strain on the striker. Before the late surge, the striker had only scored twice in his first nine Premier League games and had even missed a couple of golden opportunities against Tottenham.

“I am happy for him because we know that when strikers don’t score, they suffer,” the manager said. “So that is for people to think. He is really young, arrived to the club this summer, and it’s not easy to play for Chelsea. It’s the history, about winning, lifting trophies. That’s why as a coaching staff we need to provide the tools and be calm with the way we assess things. The confidence is there and I am so happy for him because he deserves the boost.”

Jackson got back on track just in time to score again, and he will look to do so when Chelsea play Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

Richarlison made a dramatic impact off the bench to rescue Tottenham, scoring one goal and setting up the winning one for Dejan Kulusevski in the 10th minute of stoppage time, stunning Sheffield United.

The Brazilian forward had recently returned from international duty in Brazil, where he had expressed the need for psychological support to deal with off-pitch challenges. However, he chose to play and proved to be a game-changer as Spurs turned the match around in a frantic 12 minutes of added time.

Tottenham trailed after Gustavo Hamer’s goal when the board displayed additional time. In a remarkable turn of events, Richarlison equalized with a header from a corner delivered by Ivan Perisic and then orchestrated the second goal for Kulusevski, who skillfully found the net past Wes Foderingham. This sparked jubilant celebrations at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou’s team had struggled to find their rhythm and were initially frustrated by Sheffield United’s stubborn defence. On two occasions, they had players down with injuries – first Vinicius Souza, writhing in pain while clutching his head, and then Foderingham, who suffered a hamstring strain, necessitating extended treatment.

In both instances, the Sheffield United coach, Heckingbottom, used the breaks to gather his team for hydration and tactical discussions.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou expressed frustration with the fourth official and repeated his discontent when only three minutes of added time were announced at the conclusion of the first half. It was during this stoppage time period that Sheffield United missed a golden opportunity to take the lead.

McBurnie found himself unmarked as he arrived at the penalty spot to meet a corner kick. He rose swiftly and made solid contact with his header, but unfortunately directed it straight into the waiting hands of Guglielmo Vicario, who was positioned in the center of his goal.

The visitors would have won by two yards either way.

Their sole realistic opportunity. Vicario made a fantastic save on James McAtee, but the flag was raised because the ball was out before Jayden Bogle crossed. Earlier, strike partner McBurnie’s shot was accidentally blocked by Cameron Archer.

When Foderingham was knocked down by a collision with Micky van de Ven early in the second half, there was additional time-wasting criticism. There was no doubt that he had indeed been struck in the face and was due medical attention.

The home supporters, on the other hand, believed he was milking the situation when it took him so long to tie his gloves and take the free kick. Due to handling outside of his penalty box in the first half, Foderingham already had one yellow card.

Referee Peter Bankes was standing with his arms raised and his wristwatch in his hand. It developed into a sideshow with personality. Players from Sheffield United collapsed from cramps, the home crowd became furious, and the game lost all direction.

Heckingbottom was successful if his goal was to disturb Tottenham’s rhythms when he arrived.

His defending unit was also being pushed farther but remained steadfast. Cristian Romero could have done better with his header, but he blazed it wide. Manor Solomon cut in and curled a chance wide, and there were increasingly desperate penalty appeals.

Spurs struggled to respond effectively as the Blades increased their threat on the counterattack and won set pieces.

Jack Robinson, the center half, launched a long throw deep into the penalty box, from which Hamer scored. It was left untouched. Although McBurnie was the closest, the ball bounced all the way to Hamer, who was standing at the back post.

The Dutch-Brazilian midfielder produced an excellent finish by directing a half-volley along the ground, across Vicario, and into the goal off the opposing post. Since moving from Coventry in the summer, he had scored twice.

Brennan Johnson, who made his professional debut during Postecouglou’s triple substitution, appeared to have equalized when he flawlessly controlled a long Bissouma pass and rocketed it past Foderingham.

He was simply offside, which is unfortunate for the new signing. Richarlison followed suit and went over. Foderingham rejected Kulusevski.

The Spurs then got to work as the clock showed an additional 12 minutes.

Guglielmo Vicario has joined Tottenham Hotspur after the two parties reached a £17 million contract with Serie A team Empoli.

The Italian goalkeeper is the first new player to join Ange Postecoglou’s team since the manager joined from Celtic earlier this summer. Dejan Kulusevski, who was on loan from Juventus, was also added to the squad permanently after his original 18-month tenure.

Vicario, 26, has agreed to a five-year deal with Tottenham Hotspur Stadium through 2028 after passing his physical on Monday. He has been given the No. 13 shirt at the stadium, which was most recently worn by fellow goalkeeper Michel Vorm.

The deal is subject to Vicario, who Roberto Mancini has previously called up to the senior Italy side. Still, he has yet to make his Azzurri debut, obtaining the required international clearance and a work visa.

With Hugo Lloris’ contract expiring in a year and the long-serving Spurs captain publicly stating a desire for a fresh challenge, Vicario’s presence adds to the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Long-standing rumours suggest that the French goalkeeper may leave this summer, but there is also speculation that Vicario may initially serve as his backup before assuming the reins full-time.

Vicario joined Empoli from Cagliari in 2021 and made 71 total appearances for the team, originally on loan. In his own country, he has also played for Udinese, Fontanafredda, Venezia, and Perugia.

Tottenham has finalized the permanent signing of Juventus’ winger Dejan Kulusevski.

The Swedish international signed a loan agreement with Spurs in January 2022 that contained a contingency allowing the club to sign the player permanently for almost £30 million, but Spurs chose to negotiate a lower price.

Kulusevski has officially returned to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the two teams agreed on a cost of closer to £25 million, as was previously reported on Friday.

Kulusevski has signed a five-year deal, making him the first player hired under Ange Postecoglou.

Kulusevski endured a mixed 18 months on loan in London. He racked up seven goals and 16 assists in 57 appearances in all competitions, often looking like one of Spurs’ top talents when he was in form.

Spurs fans were thrilled with their deal when the 23-year-old had a scorching start to life in England, scoring five goals and dishing out eight assists in his first six months with the team. However, the 23-year-old’s statistics suffered from inconsistent play over the course of the following year.

Kulusevski’s loan contract also included an obligatory purchase clause which would have been triggered if Spurs finished in the top four this season, but the Swede was powerless to stop his side from finishing eighth.

He is now set for a fresh start under Postecoglou, who we understand is keeping an open mind to working with Kulusevski.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison has called out manager Antonio Conte for handing him a ‘s**t’ role at the club this season.

The £60 million summer transfer from Everton to Spurs saw the Brazilian international start less than half of his club’s games so far this season.

Despite Spurs needing a goal to keep their Champions League hopes alive against AC Milan on Wednesday, he was only given 20 minutes of action off the bench.

After the game, Richarlison decided to let the world know about his frustrations.

“It was going well, in a good sequence, two wins against West Ham and Chelsea,” Richarlison told TNT Sports. “Suddenly, he put me on the bench, against Wolverhampton he put me on for five minutes. I asked why, but they didn’t tell me anything.

Asked for a review of his personal role at the club, Richarlison added: “This season, excuse the word, it’s been s**t because I don’t have minutes, I suffered a little with the injury.

“But, when I enter the field, I give my life. I came from two games well, I think that’s it, I think I should have played and I don’t have to cry about it.”

During the course of his 25 games for Tottenham, Richarlison has only scored two goals and three assists, firmly placing him beneath Harry Kane in the team’s hierarchy.

Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min, who have both experienced form and injury issues this season, have both maintained their spots in front of the Brazilian in recent weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur FC have confirmed and completed the signing of forward Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal for the rest of the 2022–23 season.

Danjuma has signed a short-term loan agreement with the North London club after Spurs sensationally outbid Everton to sign the Dutch international at the last minute. Without a buy option, the 25-year-old joins Antonio Conte’s squad for the rest of the current campaign.

Spurs have released an official statement confirming the deal for Danjuma, which reads:

However, for the Dutch international, who was on the verge of securing a transfer to another Premier League club, things could have turned out quite differently.

That’s because reports stated that a deal to join Everton on loan for the remainder of the season was all but completed, having held talks with the current crisis club. A medical was said to have been finalised, with signatures all in place and media duties completed too.

The Toffees were grappling with Frank Lampard’s departure as manager after a terrible stretch of results when the deal collapsed as Spurs spotted an opportunity.

It’s one of the unexpected U-turns in the transfer market, and it’s unclear if the London club will benefit the most from the signing.

Villarreal have confirmed that there is an option to buy in the deal too. Writing in their own statement: “Villarreal CF and Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement for the loan of Arnaut Danjuma. The Dutch forward will play for the London club until the end of the current 2022/23 season. The loan agreement includes a purchase option.”
