South African Amapiano recording producer, De Mthuda has released his long-awaited studio album dubbed, ‘The Landlord.’

The top producer who has been producing Amapiano melodies serves in a 12-track studio project with numerous features.

On The Landlord, the producer from Vosloorus reached into his arsenal of influences to craft a dynamic amapiano full-length. Featuring Focalistic and Njelic, “Jaiva” recalls kwaito with sprinkles of bubblegum; “Inkomo Zam,” featuring Nomfundo Moh and Sipho Magudulela, is a contemporary take on Sophiatown-era jazz, while on “Emlanjeni,” singer Sir Trill longs for an overdue meet-up with his lover over shimmering Rhodes keys and the genre’s characteristic lush pads.

To celebrate the country’s Youth Month, Spotify South Africa recently shared statistics that show young people’s favorite artists, songs, and genres.

According to the stats, amapiano producer Mr JazziQ is the most-streamed South African artist on the platform by Gen Z users, He’s followed by another amapiano sensation Busta 929, who is followed by rappers A-Reece and Nasty C respectively.

Mr JazziQ is a former member of the duo JazziDisciples, alongside fellow producer Josiah De Disciple.

JazziQ has been releasing music consistently and scoring hits since the two parted ways. His recent release is the project Party With The English.

Busta 929, who follows Mr JazziQ on the list, is a frequent collaborator of the producer.

A-Reece, who boasts the most loyal fanbase, has remained popular among young fans. His story is a unique one as he has been releasing his music independently since leaving Ambitiouz Entertainment in 2015.

The stats prove what many already knew, that amapiano is running the country’s contemporary music scene. Alongside Mr JazziQ and Busta 929, making the list are amapiano stars De Mthuda, Lady Du, DBN Gogo and Kabza De Small.

The latter was 2020’s most streamed South African artist on Spotify by local audiences.

Spotify South Africa’s list of the 10 most streamed songs by Gen Z audiences consists of amapiano songs only with “Khuza Gogo” by Ama Avenger, Blaqnick, DBN Gogo, M.J, MasterBlaq, Mpura taking the top spot.

Kwiish SA‘s breakout song “Iskhathi (Gong Gong)” was pivotal in the broader mainstream acceptance of amapiano in early 2019, so much that some people casually referred to the sound as “gong gong”.

Busta 929 “Ekseni” (featuring Boohle and Zuma)

Busta 929 released “Ekseni” as a follow-up to the platinum-selling smash hit “Umsebenzi Wethu”.

Enlisting the talents of vocalists Boohle and Zuma, “Ekseni” sees Busta step out as a lead solo act, after releasing a collaborative EP and co-producing a lot of hit songs with Mr JazziQ last year.

Killer Kau has come a long way from being a viral sensation to becoming a certified hitmaker.

The “Kataliya” artist kicked off the year with a new single titled “Amaneighbour”.

The song is a street anthem and gets amapiano lovers dancing at the groove.

De Mthuda “Abekho Ready” (Maplankeng Reshuffle) (featuring Sir Trill & Da Muziqal Chef)

De Mthuda and Ntokzin initially released “Maplankeng” as a single in October and included it in their joint album Ace Of Spades released in December.

In January this year, the prolific producer decided to reshuffle his spades and brought in Sir Trill to add vocals on the beat. Sir Trill, as he continues to show, understood the assignment and delivered.

Focalistic x Mr JazziQ “GUPTA” (featuring Lady Du & Mellow and Sleazy)

Amapiano heavy hitters Focalistic and Mr JazziQ put out their much-teased collaborative single “GUPTA”, which features vocalist Lady Du and production duo Mellow and Sleazy.

This aspirational song came after the release of Mr JazziQ‘s album Party With The English and the success of Focalistic’s “Ke Sta r Remix”.

The two reportedly have an upcoming EP together and Focalistic has also revealed that he has another EP with Nigerian superstar Davido, as well as unreleased music with Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz and Ghana’s Stonebwoy.
