Eight standout performers from seven different clubs headline the first Player of the Month shortlist of the campaign, while four tacticians are in the running for the Manager of the Month prize after guiding their sides to impressive early-season form.

Player of the Month Nominees – August 2025

Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal) – Arsenal’s summer recruit has settled quickly at left back, balancing his defensive duties with attacking intent. He registered one goal, two assists, and two clean sheets in just three games.

Hugo Ekitiké (Liverpool) – The striker made a flying start, scoring two goals and one assist in his first three league outings, reminding new signing Alexander Isak that competition for places is fierce.

Jack Grealish (Everton) – Back on the shortlist after joining Everton on loan from Manchester City, Grealish delivered four assists in three matches, quickly becoming the creative hub of the Toffees’ attack.

Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace) – Despite summer transfer speculation, Palace’s captain produced a calm, commanding month. He oversaw two clean sheets in away games and added a spectacular long-range strike against Aston Villa.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – Last year’s August winner is back in contention after firing three goals in three games, keeping City afloat during a mixed start to their title defence.

João Pedro (Chelsea) – The Brazilian midfielder was instrumental in Chelsea’s strong start, matching Grealish’s numbers with two goals and two assists across the month, including a dominant display against West Ham.

Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth) – After a turbulent opening-day incident involving racist abuse allegations, Semenyo answered on the pitch with two goals against Liverpool and another assist against Wolves.

Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) – The Hungarian playmaker capped his August with one of the moments of the month: a stunning free-kick winner against Arsenal, adding sparkle to Liverpool’s unbeaten run.

Régis Le Bris (Sunderland) – Back in the Premier League, Sunderland impressed with two wins from three matches. Le Bris’ ability to integrate new signings has been crucial, with Wilson Isidor’s brace off the bench providing a highlight.

Enzo Maresca (Chelsea) – Fresh from their Club World Cup triumph, Maresca’s Chelsea remain unbeaten. After a slow opener against Palace, the Blues rallied with statement wins over West Ham and Fulham to climb to second.

David Moyes (Everton) – Under pressure to deliver, Moyes has overseen a rejuvenated Everton side inspired by Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye. Two wins in three have lifted the mood around Goodison Park.

Arne Slot (Liverpool) – Slot’s Reds are the only side with a perfect record, sitting top of the table as the league’s leading scorers. Wins over Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Arsenal ensured momentum even before Isak’s arrival.

West Ham United have announced the departure of manager Julen Lopetegui after a challenging six-month tenure.

Lopetegui, who replaced David Moyes during the summer as a high-profile hire, managed only seven wins in 22 matches. Despite his experience as a former Spain and Real Madrid manager, Lopetegui struggled to turn West Ham’s fortunes around.

His position first came under scrutiny in early December following a poor start to the season. While a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers briefly eased pressure, the team managed just one additional win—against bottom-placed Southampton—before a string of heavy defeats, including 5-0 and 4-1 losses to Liverpool and Manchester City, sealed his fate.

In a statement, the club said:
“West Ham United can confirm that Head Coach Julen Lopetegui has today left the Club.

“The first half of the 2024/25 season has not aligned with the Club’s ambitions, and the Club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives.

“The Club can confirm that Assistant Head Coach Pablo Sanz, Head of Performance Oscar Caro, Head Analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, Fitness Coach Borja De Alba, and Technical Coach Edu Rubio have also left with immediate effect.

“The Board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future.”

Reports suggest that former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter is expected to replace Lopetegui. If appointed quickly, Potter could take charge for West Ham’s upcoming FA Cup clash with Aston Villa on Friday.

After Manchester City’s unexpected elimination in the previous round, the Gunners would have been optimistic about their chances of winning the trophy this season, having not done so since 1993.

At the London Stadium, though, West Ham under David Moyes had other plans. Ben White gave the Hammers the lead early on with an own goal. Mohammed Kudus then doubled the lead early in the second half, and Jarrod Bowen put the hosts out of sight just after the hour mark.

Martin Odegaard did give Arsenal a response, but it took until the 96th minute.

Days had passed since Arteta’s team destroyed Sheffield United, scoring five goals without answering to take second place in the Premier League standings.

“I’m really disappointed and I am responsible for that,” Arteta told Sky Sports, reflecting on the defeat in east London. “It wasn’t good enough. We didn’t compete good enough. I tried to warn [the players] for 48 hours what was coming and how important it was going to be.

“Overall we were nowhere near the level we needed to show. This is football and every game is different. What happened a few days ago [against Sheffield United] is in the bin and in the past.

“We didn’t threaten enough. I wanted to see much more from my team. There is a lot to improve. The thing we have to take from the game today is how are we going to use this to beat Newcastle on Saturday. Feeling the pain. That’s what we have to do now.”

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has stated that Alejandro Garnacho might make his comeback from injury against West Ham.

The Dutchman stated that there was a remote possibility the attacker may play against West Ham after missing nearly two months due to an ankle injury. United will be seeking redemption after losing 1-0 at Brighton on Thursday.

The loss at the Amex Stadium slightly hurt United’s chances of making the top four.

With the exception of the time they lost at Brentford after losing to Brighton on the first day of the season, the Red Devils have a strong track record of winning their subsequent encounter after losses.

“I think it will be the same squad [as against Brighton], maybe Garnacho can be involved but we’ll have to see,” Ten Hag told a press conference. “We have every time in the season, when we had a defeat then we bounced back. I count on my team, we have to do it again.

Seven of their eight Premier League losses this year have been away from home. Additionally, United hasn’t defeated a single one of the top nine teams in the standings away from home.

They have performed well against clubs in the lower half of the rankings, though, and they should be optimistic about their prospects against West Ham, led by former manager David Moyes, who are now in 15th place and are only four points above the relegation zone.

Ten Hag added: “There is no time to stay in this, in one hour we move onto the game against West Ham. Prepare them and make a good plan. The players have to take responsibility and I count on them and they can do that.

On Sunday, United travels to West Ham. They then have six days until their following game, which is against Wolves at home.

The Scot`s side earned a vital point in their battle against the drop after being 2-0 down inside ten minutes, with the initiative handed to Arsenal by early goals from Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard.

West Ham United have completed and announced the signing of Aston Villa striker Danny Ings in a deal worth £15m.

The 30-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at London Stadium and joins the club to give West Ham, who have only scored 15 Premier League goals this season, more firepower.

In 18 appearances for Villa during 2022–23, Ings has scored six goals, although neither Unai Emery nor his predecessor Steven Gerrard have been able to secure him a regular position.

Mp3bullet revealed on Thursday that West Ham had agreed to sign Ings for £15m – comprised of a £12m guaranteed fee and £3m in add-ons – and he has now become David Moyes‘ second signing of the January transfer window.

“I’m really excited to join West Ham United,” Ings told the club’s official website. “It’s important I settle in as quickly as I can do – and do the important stuff on the pitch for West Ham.

Ings‘ arrival provides competition for Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio up front, who have scored just five Premier League goals between them this season.

The England international has formerly played for Burnley, Liverpool, and Southampton. In 188 Premier League games, he has scored 68 goals, a total that very certainly would have been higher except for a number of major knee injuries.

Ings, who will wear the number 18 jersey, is expected to make his West Ham debut on Saturday in a key Premier League matchup against Everton, another struggling team.

According to reports, West Ham have signed Danny Ings from Aston Villa in a £15million transfer as they look for firepower to escape the relegation zone.

David Moyes‘ team have spent big on the former England international striker as they try to get out of the bottom three.

Ings, 30, has started just eight Premier League games for Aston Villa this season.

Sky Sports report that West Ham have completed a deal to seal his signature and bolster their forward options.

Despite his lack of starts, Ings has managed six goals this term.

He will add some goalscoring nous to Moyes‘ squad, competing with Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca for action.

West Ham have scored just 15 goals in 19 league matches this season. Only Wolves have scored fewer than Moyes’ men.

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Molineux saw the Hammers fall into the relegation zone.

West Ham United Head coach, David Moyes has opened up on how Sir Alex Ferguson essentially forced the Manchester United job upon him back in 2013.

After almost 27 years in command at Old Trafford, Ferguson made the decision to end his storied managing career, although he kept his decision a secret until the latter half of the 2012–13 season.

Ferguson announced his retirement in May 2013, and the following day, Moyes, the manager of the time, was named as his replacement with a six-year deal.

However, he would last less than a season with the Red Devils before being sacked due to poor results.

Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast, Moyes talked at length about the incredibly quick process of becoming United manager.

When asked if rumours of Ferguson coming to his house regarding the job were true, Moyes replied: “No, he took me to his house!

“It wasn’t long after I turned 50, my wife had bought me a watch and we had actually gone through to Manchester to the jewellers.
According to reports, Arsenal are interested in signing West Ham United captain Declan Rice.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from London Stadium on numerous occasions, with Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool all believed to be interested in the England international.

Until now, there has been no indication that Arsenal is interested in signing Rice, but we know that the Gunners’ Premier League success has allowed Mikel Arteta and the club’s administration to examine their list of potential targets.

After beating rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 on Sunday, Arsenal now has an eight-point lead over reigning champions Man City in the Premier League standings, barring a collapse in the second half of the season. Arsenal now appears to be a lock for Champions League qualification for next season.

Rice, meanwhile, finds himself at the bottom of the table with a West Ham team that has struggled to come back from a goal down. Despite spending a lot of money in the summer, David Moyes’ side has lost 12 of the 19 Premier League games they’ve played so far this season, and they’re in the relegation zone with only 15 goals and points to their name.

The additions of Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca, and Nayef Aguerd were supposed to increase the Hammers’ chances of consistently qualifying for European competition and convince Declan Rice to sign a contract extension, but their $150 million+ investment has not yielded any tangible results on the field.

West Ham’s struggles almost certainly mean that Rice, whose deal at the club runs until 2024 with the option of a further year, will look to leave this summer in order to further his career – he has previously expressed his desire to play in the Champions League.

As they attempt to improve their midfield options, Arsenal is examining a variety of targets, and sources have told 90min that Rice is very much on the club’s radar.

Chelsea, who discharged Rice from their academy when he was 14 years old, is still interested in bringing him back to Stamford Bridge. When Todd Boehly took over as the Blues owner in place of Roman Abramovich, he attempted—but failed—to make him one of his first signings.

Although West Ham’s negotiating strength will continue to dwindle as they fight to survive in the Premier League, they have always insisted that any interested team will need to spend at least £100 million to sign Rice.
