Dean Henderson has secured a five-year contract, binding him to Selhurst Park until 2028, following his departure from Manchester United to join Crystal Palace on a permanent basis.

The goalkeeper’s move marks the end of a substantial 12-year association with the Red Devils, during which he made only 29 appearances for the first team.

During the latter part of the 2020–2021 season, Henderson was granted an opportunity to challenge David de Gea for the starting goalkeeper position but found himself once again on the bench for the following season.

Following a loan spell at Nottingham Forest for the 2022–2023 season, Henderson indicated that his time at Manchester United had come to a close. He joined Crystal Palace at the start of this season as the backup to Andre Onana.

Reports suggest that Crystal Palace has paid £20 million for the 26-year-old goalkeeper. Although Nottingham Forest had expressed interest in re-signing Henderson, the deal did not materialize.

Crystal Palace had been actively seeking a new goalkeeper, as their veteran shot-stopper, Vicente Guaita, sought a transfer.

Henderson will now compete with Sam Johnstone, another England international, for the starting goalkeeper position.

Upon his arrival in south London, Henderson expressed his enthusiasm, stating to CPFC.co.uk: “I’m absolutely delighted and buzzing to be here. I can’t wait to get started. This club has got great fans and has a lot of top players who are hungry to succeed. There’s something being built here, and I really want to be a part of it.”

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing former Manchester United keeper David de Gea due to Manuel Neuer’s delayed return to full fitness after a ski injury.

According to Sport Bild, Yan Sommer, Bayern’s backup goalkeeper, is linked with a move to Inter Milan as he does not want to be a bench warmer when Neuer is fit again.

Bayern have a shortlist of potential targets, including Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny, but the Serie A club is not willing to let go of him. David Raya from Brentford is also an option, but his height may be a concern for the German club.

Other goalkeepers on Bayern’s radar include Yassine Bounou from Sevilla, Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, Robert Sanchez from Brighton, and Kamil Grabara from FC Copenhagen.

Inter, on the other hand, is interested in Yan Sommer as a replacement for Andre Onana, whom they sold to Manchester United. However, they are hesitant to pay the transfer fee demanded by Bayern. Andre Onana gave an explanation for why he selected the number 24 shirt at Manchester United, saying he chose it because it commemorates his birthday.

Onana’s transfer to Man Utd was formally announced on July 20 after the Red Devils agreed to pay Inter £47.61 million for his services. The goalkeeper then signed a five-year contract with the club, with an additional year’s option.

Onana was anticipated to inherit the valued shirt after David de Gea’s contract at Old Trafford expired. Surprisingly, though, the Cameroonian instead chose to choose the number 24 at Old Trafford.

Explaining the decision to MUTV, Onana said: “I just like that number. It’s my birthday. My date of birth. For me it’s great, it’s beautiful.

In his first interview at Manchester United, Onana also discussed his style of play and his first impressions of training with his new teammates: “I’m very comfortable playing from the back, but it depends.

“I think the most important thing is to recognise the situation and that’s what I do myself, read the situation, especially what the team needs in certain moments.

“When we play, depending on who we play, sometimes you have the possession and sometimes not, so from there you have to be smart and try to help the team, because most of the time playing with these players is amazing.

“I had my first training session with them and it’s just amazing the quality here, it’s great.”

Manchester United have announced the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan, as well as the squad number for the new goalkeeper.
