Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Moshood Abdulmuiz, popularly known as Muyeez, has officially parted ways with Dapper Music & Entertainment Limited.

The announcement comes just hours after fellow artist Shallipopi disclosed his exit from the label, which has faced recent upheavals with the departure of several prominent talents.

Muyeez made his decision public through a heartfelt statement shared on his Instagram page, titled “MY TRUTH: MUYEEZ SPEAKS OUT AGAINST EXPLOITATION.” In his statement, he outlined the struggles he endured during his time with the label and revealed that his signing occurred while he was still a minor.

Reflecting on his journey, Muyeez accused the label of neglecting his welfare and withholding his rightful earnings. “My name is Moshood Abdulmuiz p/k/a Muyeez p/k/a Young Badoo, and today I am breaking my silence to share the painful truth about my journey as an artist under Dapper Music & Entertainment Limited,” he began.

The young artist further revealed that despite releasing three chart-topping Extended Plays (EPs) in a single month, he has yet to receive any royalty payments for his work. “What should have been a dream come true turned into a nightmare of exploitation, neglect, and betrayal,” he lamented.

Muyeez also recounted his struggles with inadequate support from the label, stating, “I was just a minor when I signed this contract, placing my trust in a company that promised to guide and support me. Instead, I was burdened with impossible demands.”

Describing the dire conditions he faced, the singer recalled moments of hardship. “I sometimes went to bed in a hugger, with the label not caring about my well-being,” he shared, hinting at the emotional toll the experience had on him.

From Q1 to Q3, Nigerian labels celebrated record-breaking achievements, including a major milestone where a Nigerian-owned label crossed the billion-stream mark.

As the year nears its end, TurnTable Charts, a top Nigerian music analytics company, highlights EMPIRE and Dapper Music as top performers, alongside other major players like Virgin Music, YBNL Nation, and Mavin Records.

An October 30th report by TurnTable Charts attributes Dapper Music’s success in part to popular releases by street-hop star Seyi Vibez and his Vibez Inc signees—Tml Vibez, Muyeez, Billion Solar, and Nerrycole—bringing Dapper above other local imprints such as YBNL and Mavin Records.

Partnered with Virgin Music, Dapper Music reached over one billion streams by Q3, while EMPIRE, partnering with YBNL, achieved similar milestones across five major streaming platforms.

Virgin Music currently leads the Nigerian market with an 8.62% share, followed by EMPIRE at 8.25% and Virgin Music Nigeria at 8.15%. Warner Music Group, in collaboration with Chocolate City and Africori, holds a 4.81% share, propelled by TitoM & Yuppe’s hit remix “Tshwala Bam,” featuring Grammy-winner Burna Boy.

Universal Music Group ranks sixth with a 4.14% market share, with over half driven by its partnership with Mavin Records. Vibez Inc., YBNL Nation, and Mavin Records occupy seventh through ninth places, while Sony Music rounds out the top ten.
