According to reports, the Blues are expected to intensify their pursuit of Lacroix during the summer transfer window as they look to add more competition and experience to their backline. Club officials reportedly view the French defender as an ideal fit alongside Levi Colwill, with the aim of reinforcing a defensive unit that will be central to Alonso’s plans.

Lacroix has enjoyed a successful spell with Crystal Palace, where he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs. Having spent two seasons at Selhurst Park, he remains under contract for another three years, meaning Palace are under no immediate pressure to sell.

Despite that, the South London club are reportedly anticipating an official approach from Chelsea, who are keen to secure a defender already accustomed to the demands of English football. With Alonso set to formally begin his tenure on July 1, Chelsea’s hierarchy are understood to be pushing to complete key pieces of business early in the window.

To help finance a potential deal, Chelsea could sanction the departure of academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah. The defender is attracting strong interest from Italian side Como 1907, who are reportedly preparing a formal offer.

Sources in Italy suggest Como are eager to strengthen their squad and view Chalobah as a valuable addition. The defender is currently with the England national football team squad at the World Cup after being called up following the withdrawal of Tino Livramento.

Should the move materialise, Chelsea would not only create room within their squad but also generate funds that could accelerate negotiations for Lacroix, as the club continues shaping its roster ahead of Alonso’s first campaign in charge.

Strand Larsen also shared his excitement after completing the move, making it clear he is eager to hit the ground running in South London. “I’m really excited to come to Crystal Palace. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now. I’m here to bring energy and goals and to try to do my best for the club,” he said.

The striker arrives at Palace with mixed recent fortunes. He enjoyed an impressive debut season at Wolves, scoring 16 goals in 35 appearances, but has struggled for form in the current campaign, managing just one Premier League goal so far. Wolves have endured a difficult season overall, with Rob Edwards’ side rooted to the bottom of the table, seven points behind Burnley and facing the prospect of relegation to the Championship.

Strand Larsen was initially expected to replace Jean-Philippe Mateta, but the French forward’s proposed deadline-day move to AC Milan collapsed. The Italian giants reportedly pulled out of the deal after concerns were raised over a knee issue during medical checks. As a result, Mateta now looks set to remain at Palace and be reintegrated into the squad.

Explaining Mateta’s absence from the squad against Nottingham Forest, Palace manager Oliver Glasner insisted the decision was not transfer-related. “It’s nothing to do with the transfers, he is just not in the right place and doesn’t feel in the right place to play. We have to protect the team and protect him, he will not travel with us to Nottingham,” Glasner told reporters.

With Strand Larsen now through the door and Mateta staying put, Crystal Palace head into the second half of the season with renewed attacking options as they look to push forward under Glasner’s leadership.

The 25-year-old defender, who came close to sealing a move to Liverpool last summer before the deal fell through, has now opted for the Etihad Stadium, joining Pep Guardiola’s side as they chase down Premier League leaders Arsenal amid mounting defensive concerns.

City have been stretched at the back in recent weeks following long-term injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias, and Guehi is expected to slot in quickly as Guardiola looks for stability and leadership in his back line.

For Crystal Palace, the transfer represents a significant setback. The Eagles are fresh off their historic FA Cup triumph, but the loss of their captain comes shortly after manager Oliver Glasner confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season, signalling a period of transition at Selhurst Park.

Speaking after completing the move, Guehi expressed confidence in his decision, saying:
“It’s definitely the right environment for me to improve and just get better.

“Hopefully, I can bring what I have to the table to help every single person here too.”

The defender will also reunite with familiar faces from the England national team, including Phil Foden and John Stones, and he was quick to highlight Stones’ influence on his development.

“I think John has taken me under his wing, to be honest. Especially when I’m with the national team, I see him as a big brother…

“He’s such an amazing person to be around and I’m really delighted to play with him.”

City’s director, Hugo Viana, praised the acquisition, underlining Guehi’s quality and leadership despite his relatively young age.

“It is clear Marc has been one of the best defenders in English football for quite some time now, so we are absolutely delighted to bring him to Manchester City.

“I feel we have signed a huge talent who will help us improve. He is only 25, but he has shown already he is a leader, a brilliant professional and someone desperate to improve.”

Guehi began his journey in football through Chelsea’s academy, gaining valuable experience during a loan spell at Swansea City before making a permanent move to Crystal Palace.

His time with the Eagles proved highly successful, as he went on to captain the club to FA Cup and Community Shield glory in 2025, cementing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders.

Now, the focus shifts to Manchester, where Guehi will be tasked with helping City steady their season and mount a serious title charge.

The Premier League champions have moved decisively to beat competition from fellow English heavyweights Arsenal and Liverpool for the England defender, whose contract at Selhurst Park was due to run out at the end of the season. City’s swift approach has placed them firmly in pole position to seal the deal.

Personal terms between Guéhi and Manchester City have already been agreed upon, removing one of the biggest hurdles in the transfer. Discussions over a transfer fee with Crystal Palace are expected to follow, as both clubs look to finalize the move in the coming days.

A clear sign that the transfer is close is Guéhi’s omission from Palace’s travelling squad for Saturday’s clash with Sunderland, as the Eagles attempt to snap a worrying nine-game winless streak across all competitions, including six Premier League matches.

The impending move comes months after Guéhi’s dramatic near-exit last summer. On deadline day, Crystal Palace pulled the plug on a proposed £35 million transfer to Liverpool after failing to secure a replacement, despite the defender having already completed his medical with the Merseyside club.

While Liverpool retained an interest in the center-back, they were unwilling to match City’s urgency or meet the expected fee in January, preferring instead to wait for the possibility of signing him on a free in the summer.

Manchester City’s aggressive push, however, appears to have settled the matter, with Guéhi now on the verge of taking the next major step in his career under Pep Guardiola.

The Austrian tactician revealed that the decision was made several months ago and communicated privately to Palace chairman Steve Parish during the October international break. According to Glasner, both parties agreed at the time to keep the matter confidential in the best interest of the club.

“A decision has already been taken, months ago,” Glasner told reporters on Friday.
“I had a meeting with Steve in October during the international break. We had a very long talk, and I told him I will not sign a new contract.

“We agreed then that it was best to keep it between us. Now it’s important to have clarity. Steve and I both want the best for Crystal Palace.”

Glasner explained that his desire to seek a new challenge informed his decision, stressing that the timing of the announcement was influenced by Palace’s congested fixture schedule.

His impending departure represents a significant loss for the Eagles. Under Glasner’s leadership, Crystal Palace enjoyed a historic high point last season, lifting the first major trophy in the club’s history after a famous FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Glasner’s future is already the subject of intense speculation, with reports suggesting he is among the candidates being considered by Manchester United, who are expected to appoint a new permanent manager in the summer.

As the season approaches its conclusion, attention will now turn to Palace’s succession plans and Glasner’s next move in what promises to be a busy managerial summer.

On the other side of the draw, holders Newcastle United will battle Manchester City for a place at Wembley.

The semifinal match-ups were confirmed shortly after Newcastle sealed a dramatic quarterfinal victory over Fulham at St James’ Park. The Magpies needed a late moment of magic to progress, with academy graduate Lewis Miley firing home a stoppage-time winner to keep their title defence alive.

Chelsea were the first side to secure a semifinal ticket earlier in the week, edging past League One side Cardiff City with a 3–1 victory in south Wales. Despite dominating much of the contest, the Blues had to be patient before eventually pulling clear late in the game.

They were later joined by Manchester City, who brushed aside Brentford 2–0 on Wednesday night. A spectacular strike from Rayan Cherki set Pep Guardiola’s men on their way. City, who famously won the competition four consecutive times between the 2017–18 and 2020–21 seasons, are still chasing their first Carabao Cup triumph since that historic run ended.

Arsenal and Crystal Palace remain the only sides yet to complete their quarterfinal fixture, but both were included in the draw. Their tie, scheduled for the Emirates Stadium, was pushed back until next week due to fixture congestion.

In keeping with tradition, the Carabao Cup semifinals will be played over two legs, with the first matches taking place in January and the return fixtures set for February 2026.

The road to Wembley has officially begun, with the 2025/26 FA Cup Third Round Draw serving its usual dose of surprises, drama, and mouthwatering fixtures.

Holders Crystal Palace will begin their title defence with what looks like a fairytale clash, drawing non-league Macclesfield in a matchup that embodies everything magical about the competition.

Road to Wembley Begins: FA Cup 2025/26 Draw Sparks Excitement

Elsewhere, the draw delivered heavyweight meetings that will immediately test the resolve of some Premier League giants. Manchester United were handed a tricky home tie against Brighton & Hove Albion, a team that hasn’t exactly been shy in Manchester in recent seasons.

For Ruben Amorim and his men, it’s an opportunity to bury the sting of their shocking Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby Town, but Brighton’s growing confidence makes this anything but straightforward.

Over in north London, Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa stands out as one of the most eye-catching pairings of the round. Unai Emery’s Villa have been a thorn in the side of top teams, and a trip to face Spurs sets the stage for one of the round’s most tightly balanced encounters.

Some of England’s other big sides will be packing their bags for potentially awkward away days. Arsenal are off to Fratton Park for a gritty meeting with Championship side Portsmouth, a ground known for its old-school intensity. Chelsea, meanwhile, remain in the capital but still face a stern test as they cross London to take on Charlton Athletic.

There’s nothing quite like the #EmiratesFACup third round draw 🤩 pic.twitter.com/TinWrVpvof

At Anfield, Arne Slot’s under-pressure Liverpool have been paired with League One’s Barnsley, a team with a history of causing trouble for bigger clubs in this tournament. The champions of England, Manchester City, are set to welcome Exeter City to the Etihad, a tie that looks straightforward on paper but will still require focus.

Two all-Premier League battles add further spice to the mix. Everton face high-flying Sunderland at Goodison Park, while Newcastle United will host Bournemouth in what many are already calling the “Eddie Howe Derby.”

All fixtures are scheduled to take place across the weekend of January 9 to 12, when the country’s oldest cup competition once again delivers its unique blend of hope, heartbreak, and giant-killing potential.

Manchester City’s goal machine, Erling Haaland, claimed the Player of the Month award after another ruthless month in front of goal. Despite featuring in only three league matches, the Norwegian striker netted five goals and provided an assist, proving pivotal in key fixtures against Manchester United and Arsenal as Pep Guardiola’s men regained momentum after a slow start to the season.

Speaking after receiving the award, Haaland expressed gratitude to his teammates and fans:

“I’m really happy to win this award for a fourth time. It always means a lot, so thank you to everyone who voted for me. I also want to thank my teammates, the coaches and all the staff—we do everything together.

September was an important month for us as a team. We played some really good football, stayed unbeaten, and got important wins for our fans. I’m happy I could help the team with goals and performances.

Now we just keep going—keep working hard every day, because there’s a tough schedule after the international break. Hopefully we can keep the same level and win even more games.”

Haaland’s latest accolade marks his fourth Premier League Player of the Month award, underlining his continued dominance in English football. He beat out competition from Daichi Kamada (Crystal Palace), Yankuba Minteh (Brighton & Hove Albion), Robin Roefs (Sunderland), Granit Xhaka (Sunderland), and Martín Zubimendi (Arsenal) to clinch the prize.

On the touchline, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner earned the Manager of the Month award after guiding the Eagles through an unbeaten September. Palace followed up a gritty draw against Sunderland with impressive victories over West Ham United and reigning champions Liverpool, cementing their reputation as one of the league’s most disciplined and dynamic sides this season.

The achievement marks Crystal Palace’s first Manager of the Month award since April 2014, when Tony Pulis last claimed the honour for the club. Glasner triumphed ahead of fellow nominees Mikel Arteta (Arsenal), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), and Régis Le Bris (Sunderland).

With both Haaland and Glasner setting high standards in September, fans can expect even fiercer competition when Premier League action resumes after the international break.

As expected, the shortlist is packed with standout performers who lit up the pitch with goals, grit, and game-changing moments.

From strikers who couldn’t stop scoring, to midfielders running the show, and managers quietly masterminding statement results September had it all.

Player of the Month Nominees

Six names make up this month’s roll call of excellence, led by Manchester City’s unstoppable hitman Erling Haaland.

1. Erling Haaland (Man City)

No surprises here. Haaland smashed in five goals in September — three more than anyone else — and had a hand in six goals overall, pushing his tally to eight for the campaign.

2. Daichi Kamada (Crystal Palace)

Kamada has been the heartbeat of Oliver Glasner’s unbeaten Palace side. In September, he created five chances, won 17 duels, and bossed games against Sunderland, West Ham, and Liverpool.

3. Yankuba Minteh (Brighton)

The Gambian winger made a statement with a goal or assist in every game he played this month. His highlights include a smart assist in the 2-1 loss to Bournemouth, a goal in a thrilling 2-2 with Spurs, and another assist in Brighton’s 3-1 win at Chelsea.

4. Robin Roefs (Sunderland)

Newly promoted Sunderland owe a lot to their goalkeeper. The Dutchman kept two clean sheets, made 13 saves (second-most in the league), and was crucial in the Black Cats’ unbeaten September, which included draws against Palace and Villa, and a win over Forest.

5. Granit Xhaka (Sunderland)

At 33, Xhaka is proving age is just a number. The midfielder set up both of Sunderland’s goals in September, won 23 duels, and added steel and creativity to the side’s remarkable return season.

6. Martin Zubimendi (Arsenal)

The Spaniard enjoyed a breakthrough month, scoring his first Premier League goals. He netted a brilliant volley against Forest and followed it up with a rare brace a header sealing Arsenal’s 3-0 win.

Manager of the Month Nominees

The dugout also had its heroes. Four coaches stood out for masterminding results that have reshaped the early table.

1. Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Arteta’s Gunners stayed strong, crushing Forest 3-0, battling to a late draw with Man City, and edging Newcastle late on results that pushed Arsenal up to second.

2. Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace)

Palace remain the league’s only unbeaten side, thanks to Glasner’s sharp touch. September saw a gritty 0-0 with Sunderland, before back-to-back wins over West Ham and Liverpool sent a message to the rest of the league.

3. Pep Guardiola (Man City)

City turned on the style yet again, scoring nine and conceding just two in September. A dominant 3-0 derby win over Manchester United, a tough 1-1 draw at Arsenal, and a 5-1 demolition of Burnley showed Pep’s men mean business.

4. Regis Le Bris (Sunderland)

The surprise package. Le Bris’ Sunderland defied the odds with an unbeaten September, ending the month in fifth.

They conceded just once even while playing with 10 men in a 1-1 draw at Villa held Palace to a stalemate, and edged Forest away from home.

Player of the Month Nominees – August 2025

Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal) – Arsenal’s summer recruit has settled quickly at left back, balancing his defensive duties with attacking intent. He registered one goal, two assists, and two clean sheets in just three games.

Hugo Ekitiké (Liverpool) – The striker made a flying start, scoring two goals and one assist in his first three league outings, reminding new signing Alexander Isak that competition for places is fierce.

Jack Grealish (Everton) – Back on the shortlist after joining Everton on loan from Manchester City, Grealish delivered four assists in three matches, quickly becoming the creative hub of the Toffees’ attack.

Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace) – Despite summer transfer speculation, Palace’s captain produced a calm, commanding month. He oversaw two clean sheets in away games and added a spectacular long-range strike against Aston Villa.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – Last year’s August winner is back in contention after firing three goals in three games, keeping City afloat during a mixed start to their title defence.

João Pedro (Chelsea) – The Brazilian midfielder was instrumental in Chelsea’s strong start, matching Grealish’s numbers with two goals and two assists across the month, including a dominant display against West Ham.

Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth) – After a turbulent opening-day incident involving racist abuse allegations, Semenyo answered on the pitch with two goals against Liverpool and another assist against Wolves.

Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) – The Hungarian playmaker capped his August with one of the moments of the month: a stunning free-kick winner against Arsenal, adding sparkle to Liverpool’s unbeaten run.

Régis Le Bris (Sunderland) – Back in the Premier League, Sunderland impressed with two wins from three matches. Le Bris’ ability to integrate new signings has been crucial, with Wilson Isidor’s brace off the bench providing a highlight.

Enzo Maresca (Chelsea) – Fresh from their Club World Cup triumph, Maresca’s Chelsea remain unbeaten. After a slow opener against Palace, the Blues rallied with statement wins over West Ham and Fulham to climb to second.

David Moyes (Everton) – Under pressure to deliver, Moyes has overseen a rejuvenated Everton side inspired by Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye. Two wins in three have lifted the mood around Goodison Park.

Arne Slot (Liverpool) – Slot’s Reds are the only side with a perfect record, sitting top of the table as the league’s leading scorers. Wins over Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Arsenal ensured momentum even before Isak’s arrival.
